Disclaimer: I have written stuff before, but not like this. This is a crossover between a few different 'universes. I do not own Harry Potter, Marvel, Champions RPG, Dr. Who, James Bond and a couple of others I've yet to include and write for. In addition, I started drafting this story a couple of years ago, and at the time, Queen Elizabeth II was still alive and does make a couple of appearances in the early parts of this story. No disrespect is intended by writing her in a few key spots. It will 'trash' certain characters (Dumbledore, Ron, Ginny, Hermione -to name a few), but some of them might be redeemable, depending on my muse. There are no 'romantic' relationships for Harry currently, but that may change. As this is my story, I want to thank a few authors whom I am a fan of and whose stories inspired me to try to write something like this - "Mutant Storm" – bobmin356, "Child of the Storm, Ghosts of the Past and The Phoenix and the Serpent" – Nimbus Lewellen, just to name a couple. I appreciate constructive criticism, but I will delete flames. Please let me know if you want more.
Now, on to the beginning….
Harry Potter and the Mage's Guild
Chapter 1
First Encounters
Harry sat quietly on the one set of unbroken benches in the local park near his place of residence in Little Whinging, Surrey. The sun was high overhead with only a few clouds floating in the sky and it was warm, but not intolerable, especially for this time in June. But Harry was not exactly focused on the weather now, or that the park was unusually empty for this time of the day. His mood at the present time was that he was not taking much notice of his surroundings, his thoughts were focused primarily on the last task of the Triwizard tournament and the disaster that had followed.
In the brief time since he had returned to his current residence (he did not consider the Durley's house as his home) from school, he had stopped caring about what anyone else thought, given what had happened after the end of the Triwizard tournament that he had been forced to compete in by Dumbledore and the Ministry. He had been ostracized by most of the students and staff of the school after his name had been drawn, and after what had happened to Cedric at the end of the tournament, even more so. Since his return from school, the one thing he had taken great care to do was to spend as much time away from his relatives – The Dursley's, as much as possible.
In the past, Harry and his relatives tried to spend as little time together, previous summers had seen him loaded down with a never-ending list of chores to complete, however, this summer was different. The animosity that existed between them over the years since he had started attending Hogwarts, had intensified during his most recent time away at school. Rather than make an already intolerable situation even worse, Harry had taken to spending most of his time out of the Dursley residence, only returning there for a few short hours to sleep each night. Given the option of Harry doing chores or staying out of the house during most of the day, the Dursley's opted for him staying out of the house, having hired a handyperson to take care of the various outdoor chores they would normally have Harry do.
After talking to Fred and George (two of the few students who had stood by him during the tournament fiasco) before school let out for the summer, Harry had quickly made some plans for surviving the summer. Having anticipated not being allowed to eat much, if any, Harry had obtained a new trunk (via owl order) that contained a food storage compartment which had a cold storage compartment, a stasis compartment (for prepared meals) and place for snacks, and he had filled them up with everything he would need to survive the summer at Durzkaban. Having made friends with the Hogwarts elves, including Dobby and Winky, it did not take long for that compartment to be fully stocked and if he needed more, he had been granted permission to call on any Hogwarts elf and they would happily assist him, without informing the headmaster.
Unlike previous summers, Harry was quite aware of the fact that he was being 'watched' by those who had an unusual interest in his life and how he lived it, aka the Order of the Phoenix, led by none other than Albus Dumbledore. Fred and George had been 'watching out' for him since his first year and before school let out for the summer, had informed him of their suspicions at the same time they had helped him order his new trunk. Over the years, his 'watchers' had never done anything to stop the abuse he had suffered over the years, they had only 'watched' and as Harry now believed, reported on everything he did, whether it was outside chores, to shopping for his 'aunt,' or even to walking around the neighborhood to Dumbledore.
What had really changed Harry's perspective and attitude was when he had discovered that his 'friends,' especially Ron and Hermione had been informing the headmaster of every move he made, every book he read in the library, every spell or curse he learned and his overall attitude. Combine that with other bits of information, Ginny's jealousness of any other girl that even dared talk to him (as she considered Harry to belong to her), snippets of conversations that he'd overheard and a couple of very enthusiastic house elves that 'worshipped' the 'Great Harry Potter', who'd obtained some rather interesting evidence, and other bits of information that he'd gleaned during the past couple of school years, he finally realized he was being used for his fame, his money and his future political power. Thanks to Dobby's 'worship' of him, he was now in possession of all the copies of his trust vault key and a few personal items of his that had gone 'missing' during the school year.
Despite all the revelations about his so-called 'friends' at the end of the year and the miserable atmosphere in the Dursley residence, there had been one bright spot in his self- imposed daily routine. Since he had taken to 'haunting' the park near his current residence on a daily basis, there was a girl, close to his own age (he assumed) that had seemed to be frequenting the park as much as he had been doing. While there had been no real conversation between either of them, just a simple acknowledgement of each other's presence, whether it be a wave, a nod of the head or a distant smile, it was a companionable silence and a welcomed one at that. A companionable silence that had no demands from either of them.
For some reason Harry could not identify, he knew that today seemed like it was going to be different. He could not place it, but something deep inside him was telling him that today was going to be different, today was going to be the start of his life changing for the better. It would be hard and challenging and it was going to take him places he had never imagined that existed, meet people he never knew existed and it was going to change him in ways he had never imagined. Harry had been at the park since early morning, having escaped the Dursley residence just after Vernon had left for work. Idly contemplating what he was going to do for the rest of the summer, Harry watched as his park 'friend' arrived.
Having become quite observant, a necessary survival skill he had developed by living with the Dursleys, Harry watched the girl's gait as quite slow, measured and quite painful for some reason. Eventually reaching the one unbroken swing, he noticed that she carefully set a well-used, but nice backpack by her feet and she seemingly looked around the park warily, as if expecting something to suddenly appear. Satisfied that his 'friend' was okay for the moment, Harry went back to his musings about the situation that he found himself in.
"Moping again, cousin?"
Harry had been so focused on his situation that he had failed to notice the arrival of his cousin Dudley and his pack of local 'thugs.' He mentally smacked himself for not paying closer attention to his surroundings (Moody would be 'not amused'), he wearily replied
"Just go, Dudley. Take your friends and go terrorize some other park today."
A round of laughter came from not only Dudley, but his 'pack' of friends – Piers, Malcolm and Gordon and a couple of new additions to the 'gang.' Harry hoped that they did not notice his friend sitting on the other side of the park, but with his recent 'luck' and the overall feel of the day, Harry doubted that she would remain unnoticed for long. If they did decide to 'bother' her, as Dudley's gang was known to do, he had already decided to stop them, even if he had to use magic to do so.
"Not going to happen, freak. See, we have not had anyone to 'pick' on lately, but guess what? You are in luck, and you are available. Haven't played 'Harry Hunting' in a while, and we are in the mood." Dudley replied, as he cracked his knuckles in what he thought was an intimidating manner.
While Dudley had been conversing with Harry, more like threatening him, the other members of Dudley's little 'circle of friends' looked around to the park to see if there might be any potential witnesses to what was about to 'go down' and they took notice of the girl sitting on the park swing. Piers drew Dudley's attention away from his cousin momentarily as he loudly exclaimed
"Who is the hottie on the swing over there?"
At Piers' exclamation, Dudley turned around to look at the aforementioned 'hottie' on the swings. Piers was right, she was a 'hottie,' she was what Dudley believed to be absolute perfection that was less than 20 meters away, slowly swinging back and forth. Long, white- blonde hair that tapered down into fiery red, loose curls, striking ice blue eyes and a figure that any model or actor would kill for. All in all, Dudley thought, the absolute perfect girl for him.
"Just leave her alone, Dudley. "
Momentarily distracted by his cousin, Dudley and his friends failed to notice that their loud and inappropriate comments had carried across the empty park and had attracted the attention of the aforementioned 'hottie.' Trying to diffuse the already tense situation before it spiraled further out of control, Harry rose form the bench, placing himself squarely between Dudley and his park 'companion.'
"Just what do you think you are going to do Potter?"
"Take your 'friends' and leave, while you still can."
Both Harry, Dudley, and Dudley's 'gang' turned at the new voice, only for all of them to realize that it had come from the 'hottie.' None of them had seen or heard her move, yet here she was standing just to the side of Harry.
She just stood there, pinning the entire group with a weary, practiced eye, all traces of her pain or problems seemed to have disappeared. Despite her small physical size, she stood surprisingly tall, her presence seemed to fill up the entire park and quite to Harry's surprise, radiating immense, controlled power, including a staggering amount of magical power.
Dudley and his friends stood frozen in place, at a loss as to what to do next. No one had ever stood up to Dudley and his friends before, let alone a girl. They had never thought that anything like this could happen to them, they were the 'Little Whinging Crew.' Shaking himself out of his momentary stupor, Dudley looked at the girl and replied, in what believed to be a menacing tone
"You think you can tell me what to do, bitch?"
Harry watched in stunned fascination as the remaining bit of emotion on the girl's face drained away instantly, the new expression on her face was scaring even Harry and he had been a witness to some truly terrifying things in his short life.
The area that immediately surrounded them seemed to shrink, the temperature in the air grew uncomfortable, but no one was able to leave. The girl's eyes seemed to 'flicker' with reddish orange flames and the rest of her appearance seemed to take on an ethereal, otherworldly presence. When she spoke again, her voice was completely devoid of emotion and carried an odd, hypnotic effect.
"You should have left while you had the chance. Too late now, pity… "
Harry watched in utter fascination and barely restrained glee as the tables were finally turned on his cousin and his thug friends. Malcolm, Piers, Gordon, and the newbies attempted to leave the park at a near run, but were stuck in place, confusion and fear was evident on their faces. Dudley, being the 'leader' of his group of 'friends,' and dense, managed to shake off the hypnotic command to leave the park.
"And what if I don't?"
Instantly, Harry knew that this was the absolute wrong thing to say – 'Only you Dudley, could say the wrong thing at the wrong time.' But, before Harry could say a word, or to try to stop his cousin from doing something incredibly stupid, something happened that scared even him.
While the air around them had been uncomfortable, it grew instantly to intolerable as the skies above them turned almost pitch black, accompanied by a low-pitched rumbling and the grounds around them took on a menacing feel. But what had really scared Harry was the girl's face. From the utter lack of expression on her face, to the now blazing 'fire' in her eyes and the barely restrained power, that even Dudley could feel, Harry watched as the expression on Dudley's face went completely blank. Her voice, when she spoke, seemed to ooze with power and had an even more hypnotic effect.
"You and your little group of miscreants are going to go to your homes now. Tomorrow, all of you are going to go to the local constabulary and make full confessions to ALL the crimes you have all committed here in the neighborhood. None of you will remember this little conversation, just the insatiable urge to atone for what you all have done. If you FAIL to do this, I WILL KNOW and I WILL FIND YOU anywhere you might try to hide."
With that final command, Dudley and his group fled the park as fast as they physically could, and given Dudley's generous size, that was quite the remarkable accomplishment. And as abruptly as the atmosphere changed from light to dark, it reversed itself and went from dark to light and sunny. Which seemed to coincide with how the expression on the girl's face changed back to what Harry had grown used to, from the first time Harry had seen her enter the park.
The girl turned to face him now, a bare hint of a smile was evident on her face. Harry was even more surprised when she started to speak to him, her voice quite definitely had an accent to it.
"Harry, is it? Hello, my name is Deanna or Dee for short"
'This is what he had been feeling all day long, Harry realized. That this is the day that things were finally going to change in his favor,' Harry thought. For the first time since returning from school, the discovery of the betrayal by his 'friends,' Harry Potter had a genuine smile on his face.
"Hello, Dee. This is the start of something quite special. "
Motioning to the empty space on the park bench, Harry sat back down, pleased when Dee sat down beside him. Little did he know, that while his feelings about the day were correct, this day and this new budding friendship would have far more reaching implications and effects on the plans of others than he knew.
Implications and effects that would forever change him, her, but the wizarding world, the non-magical world, the magical community at large and eventually reach far into the depths of the universe as well.
