"Sorry to drag you away from whatever it is you are doing"
"Its cool, the director didn't mention it would be you, if he had said I would have jumped at the chance" She says with a smile
"Ehem" The director coughs
"Oh sorry about this"
"Welcome to Paldea, it is truly an honour to welcome you to the academy, I will be your coordinator, if you have any trouble please don't be afraid to ask" She says in a monotone voice
"Thank you for the welcome" I say with laugh as Clavell shakes his head in the background
"Thank you for that invigorating speech Poppy" he says stepping forward he pulls a ball from his pocket
"So young man, each student who joins the academy from abroad is gifted a Paldean Starter Pokemon. I can only offer you this one as its the last of its set" He says handing it too me
"Oh right okay, I didn't know that"
I hadn't been able to bring any of my previous Pokemon with me, Ryan had tried to arrange for me to be able to bring Venusaur, however as its not native to Paldea and very powerful the request was denied.
I take it and roll it through my hands, I push the button to enlarge the ball before sending out my newest partner. It burst open with a white flash, appearing on the floor is a small white duck with bright blue feathers atop its head
"Quax!" It calls out shaking itself before straightening it head feather
I crouch down to talk to it
"Hey there, I'm Dustin" I say holding my hand out
It looks to me looking me up and down before turning its head curiously at me
"Quax?"
"Its nice too meet you, I'm a trainer joining the academy, I'd love for you to come along with me"
It sniffs the air at me before a gust of wind blows and pushes it head feathers all over the place, it begin to panic and speedily repositions itself causing me to laugh. It then jumps to my shoulder happily as I stand up straight
"I'll take that as a yes then"
"So Miss Poppy I task you with guiding Master Dustin to Mesagoza from here" Clavell says while I stroke at Quaxly feathers
"What do you mean? You can see it from here, he travelled before it won't take him long" She says pointing over to where the spire of the Naranja Academy can be seen
"Well the role was to be for the Miss Nemona but she is now required by the Pokemon League, I'm sure you can appreciate that we want to welcome out newest student warmly or perhaps I should speak to your aunt, we can discuss your antics with Team star at the same time" He says raising his eyebrows at her
She shivers at the thought
"Okay Dustin, lets makes this a brisk walk then"
She says wandering off down the path
"Uh yes okay, thank Director"
"Good luck young man" He shouts waving us off
I chase after Poppy whose walk has now essentially turned into a job, Quaxly hangs on tightly to my shoulder as I try to keep up. She come to an abrupt stop at the signage post for Poco Path, I catch up to her trying to catch my breath
"Wow Dustin, I thought you would be in better shape seeing as you travelled across Kanto and Johto" she says as I suck in as much air as I can as Quaxly jumps down looking up at me with concern
"Don't worry buddy I'm all good" I say standing up straight
"Right so, quick pop quiz, any ideas on what Pokemon live around here?"
"Uh, I saw some Squawkabilly on my Aunts roof the other day and some Lechonk"
She rolls her eyes and hold out her hand
"Pass me your phone"
I pull it out and pass it her, she taps away at the screen a few times before handing it back
"Check your Pokedex app now"
I pull it up and open the app, it display the standard list of Pokémon native to the Paldea region, in the bottom corner there is however a little icon that shakes every so often, it labelled "P&P Productions". I click onto it and the whole interface of the app changes completely, there now a map displayed on screen that is scrollable, you can zoom down into the most minute of details, you can even see certain Pokemon moving around in the wild
"You like mine and my friend pet project?" she says as I scroll through it in awe
"You made this?"
"Yep, well I devised the interface and how it looked, my friend Penny did all the coding, she is a computer wiz"
I continue to look through it, it even has a list of shiny Pokemon that can be seen currently in the wild, there also trainer profiles of trainers currently and what routes there on
"How does this work then?"
"Around the whole of the region are hundred maybe even thousands of camera pointing directly at the routes. They simply just record data for the PBL or the Paldean Pokemon League for safeguarding it a waste to see all that data go to waste so Penny funnels it through to our little handy dandy app here"
"Oh so you work in tandem with the boards to do this?"
She laughs nervously
"Yeah sure they know. Just don't mention it to them too openly, especially Mr Jacq at school""
Right okay sounds really legit" I say with a laugh
"It will help you a lot, look lets use it to find the first Pokemon you can catch in Paldea" She says poking around on the screen
"Oh look, Poco Path, theres a shiny Pawmi, that would be a good catch"
"So how does it scan for something as minute as that?" I question
She points up to the camera that position on one of the large telephone poles
"Those camera are used to scan for Pokemon to make sure they don't stray into area they shouldn't. With the way Paldea as a region is set up, there is no one way to progress through the region, its completely different to Kanto and Johto where you have different routes you can take, junior, intermediate or expert. Here a trainer can go anywhere, so the cameras scan to make sure that some lv 50 Gyarados doesn't just swim up on shore where a bunch of rookie trainers are, generally rangers or experienced trainers are sent out." She says as I wander following the tracking
"Oh right okay"
"So the camera are constantly scanning Pokemon it see's, date on moves, date on their level and of course whether they are shiny. Its like a mixture of both the Pokeradar from Sinnoh and the Dexnav from Hoenn. But again the data on shinies generally goes to waster but we can use it"
"Right okay, so what just follow the arrows?"
"Yep that will take you to it most recent location, the arrow will change if it pings off another camera"
We wander around the route for a while, Quaxly follows along behind us skipping happily smelling some flowers. Finally we come across some bushes and it reads close by, we peer through the bushes to see the Pawmi sat in the middle with an Oran Berry nibbling away
"See told you" Poppy says proudly
"Yeah it really works, right come on Quaxly"
I say just as three shadows swoop down
Three Fletchlings begin to peck away at Pawmi who dives overs it berry to stop them trying to take it
"Hey!" I shout bursting out of the bushes as Quazly follows along
"Stop picking on it!"
They squwk at me before diving at me, Quaxly jumps in front and blast two away with a water gun
"Nice work buddy" I say as the third circles around to come back into attack while the other two get back into the sky
They dive at Quaxly
"Jump left Quaz"Quaxly jumps left
"Water gun but spin it"
It twirls its head firing off the water gun causing a spiral effect that's hit two of the Fletchlings sending them to the ground
"Nice work!"The third one swoops round a tree and dives directly to Quaxly back
"Watch out!" I shout
Pawmi leaps behind and shock the oncoming Fletchling with a powerful Thundershock sending it flying into the tree, it hits with a thud and slides down the tree to the floor. It then carried away by the other two as they flee. Quaxly runs up to Pawmi and thanks it
"Hey thanks for that"
"Paw….."
It coos before falling over on the floor passing out"
Wow hey are you okay?" I say scooping it up into my arms
I feel its very hot to touch
"We need to get it to a Pokecentre as soon as possible"
Poppy leaps forward and pulls a masterball from her pocket, she enlarges it and send out a weird purple looking Pokemon
"Giyas"
"Miriadon we need a lift quick to Los Platos"
It nods and lower itself, Poppy jumps on quickly and holds her hand out
"Come on!"
I nod and jump on its back still coddling Pawmi while Quaxly jumps on my shoulder and hangs on. Miriadon takes off a thunderous speed with flash past other trainers and pokemon on the route in a flash, I had heard at trainers riding around on Cyclizar in Paldea but this was something else. We manage to get to Los Paltos in next to no time, I hand Pawmi over to the nurse at the centre which is more like a drive in stop than a centre. Poppy thanks her Miriadon before returning it to its ball and stuffing it into her pocket and zipping it shut, she dart me a stare and begins to point
"If Auntie Daisy asks you, you didn't see that okay?" She says sternly
"Of course!"
She rolls her eyes before grunting
"Its called Miriadon, it supposedly a Pokémon only found in Area Zero, my pals parents are down there researching things. Miriadon took a liking to me so they let me look after it"
"Is this your friend Penny?"
"Gods no! Her dad from Galar, she's supposedly related to that wack job who tried to bring about the darkest day but that's a different story. My other friend is called Arven, me and him are on the hunt for titan Pokemon, he really loves cooking and these herbs called Herba Mystica which are really good stuff are guarded by titans"
"Oh and what about you?"
She smirks before pulling a ball from her belt, she opens it and a small chest appears
"A Pokemon?" I question
"Come out little guy" she shouts
The small chest opens slightly revealing a little grey Pokemon, it chirps happily as Poppy flick a gold coin over to it, it catches it cries happily before disappearing back into the chest
"This one is Gimmighoul, I found it trying to take on one of the titans close to Mesagoza but it got beat up pretty bad, it even got its chest cracked. I mended it, we managed to figure out that not only do titan guard the herba mystica, they all guard troves of these coins. Supposely the old Paldean king hid them there if you listen to Rainfort, I read somewhere if you get a Gimmighoul 1000 coins it will evolve into a really cool Pokemon so we are collecting them. Penny helping us try to track down the titan as they only seem to come out every so often, were not sure what causes it yet"
"How many coins do you have?"
"So far we have around 200 but we will get there"
"Here!" I say pulling a pile of coins from my pocket
"You have some?" She questions taking them
"I found them down on the beach by my aunts house"
"Oh must be one of the wanderers, theres two type of Gimmighoul, ones in the chest and ones that like to walk about and have there chest somewhere in a safe place"
"Excuse me?" comes a call
We turn to see the Centre lady holding Pawmi out in her hands
"Pawmi!" I shout rushing upIt calls happily as I stroke it
"Thanks for healing it up"
"Your welcome, you should make sure your feeding your Pokemon though, it was really low on energy"
"Oh it's a wild Pokemon, we found it being attacked by some Fletchling, they did seem to be fighting over food" I say picking Pawmi up and holding it in my arms
"Oh I'm sorry to accuse! It most likely due to it different coat, shinies are always treated differently by wild Pokemon"
"I see, I have a shiny Starmie back from Kanto but that one was kind of a leader, must be tough" I say crouching down and setting Pawmi on the floor
"Well Pawmi, how about you come along with me and Quaxly, were new to journeying together and I'd love for you to come along too" I say holding out the oran berry from before almost as a bribe
It call out helping grabbing the berry before munching down
"Is that a yes" I say holding out a Pokeball
It taps the button with it head rolling three time confirming the capture
"Welcome to the team little guy"
