What to expect from this chapter: Now that Gregory is getting more at ease on having naptime with Moon in the Daycare, does this mean that Vanny will not bother him anymore?
Chapter 3- The Sleepover Party
"Gregory, its past your bedtime. You need to stop pacing around the Daycare nonstop." Moon calls to Gregory as he watches from above with the zip-line following the boy who is busy moving around the room since thirteen minutes. Right now he was going through the playground area inside going up on the slides and climbing around the cages here and there. Freddy had left Gregory to Moon's care as he and Chica had to go to one of the Recharge Stations to get her battery up to date and to give her some anti-virus protection. Sure with Chica back on Freddy's side, Gregory wanted to be relieved at the thought of one less Animatronic chasing after him, but he can't help feeling that he might be playing with fire against the serial killer Vanny who hacked into the Animatronics in the first place to hunt for him. Would she know immediately that he is taking away one of her toys? Would she come after him to teach him a lesson? He couldn't rest at the thought. Not even Moon's offer to do a pillow fight or shadow puppetry would get him to relax and clear his thoughts, so he needed to walk it off.
"I can't really go to sleep if Vanny is still out there looking for me." Gregory said as he slides down one of the blue slides and keeps walking around the playground. Moon decides to latch off from the zip line and crawl around the playground cages as he keeps an eye on the boy. "If I do try to go to sleep, how long will it be until she sees I am here? I can't get very far without the Security Badge now that I decided to hang out here."
Moon does his best to ease Gregory's anxiety about the situation at hand by sharing this information. "You don't have to worry about that little starlight. You know that I can handle any intruders that try to come into the mall. They know not to mess with me! Sun and I are programmed to deal with any threat to any childs well-being. We have sensors to detect who the child's rightful guardian are, in your case it is Freddy as well as Sun and me, and if they are not the childs rightful guardian then we have full authorization to deal with them accordingly... Sometimes the intruders have more violent tendencies and we had to go to Parts/Services because of it… It worries Sunny to no end…but we do it for the children… Our job reminds us of why we matter."
"Yeah I know Moon, but Vanny is different!" Gregory points out while walking around the ground floor of the playground, holding his flashlight on hand in the dark. What appeared to be scary to him back when he first met Moon was now more familiar and comforting despite the darkness reaching every corner of the Daycare except for the stars on the walls glowing in the distance. "What if she tries to hack you again and makes you want to hurt me? I don't know if the upgrades I gave you to withstand any glitch viruses will do any good in the long run!"
"Why don't we test that and see if it works? You can always go back to the arcade game in our room to break us out of it again." Moon reassures as he creeps up behind Gregory and catches him in his arms. "Come on, I will stay with you while you take your nap."
"I don't know if I can stay still and go to sleep." Gregory comments rather apprehensively, not struggling to break free from Moon's clutches. Even if he did try that, Moon would still keep his grip on him anyway.
"Don't underestimate me putting kids to sleep, little starlight. I am programed to help kids when they have nightmares, tell bedtime stories, sing lullabies, even bathroom emergencies and relocate the snorers if they disturb the other children." Moon said as he brings Gregory to a quiet room in the Daycare. From what Gregory was told by Sun, the quiet room is used for children who get overwhelmed during playtime, mostly for the autistic children who don't like loud noises. It is filled with stuffed toys and pillows in different corners of the area. Sun even told Gregory that Moon is often the better choice to help calm the children than him, mainly because Sun is often too excited to help the kids relax.
Moon lets Gregory go from his grip and gestures for the boy to get a blanket and some pillows of his choice along with a stuffed toy of Freddy while Moon waits for him to get set up for his bedtime. Still a little bit nervous, Gregory does as he is told and gets himself under a blanket with stars on, but he is still on the watch for any sign of Vanny figuring out where he is.
"Would you like to have a bedtime story or a lullaby to put you to sleep?" Moon asks quietly as he comes close to the boy.
Gregory thinks for a moment before responding, "You can decide Moon. I can't really choose since I don't have any experience with either one of the options." He never really had anyone to sing him to sleep or tell him bedtime stories.
Moon was curious about Gregory's response for a moment before he nods his head. "How about I give you a lullaby? The children always loved when I sing them to sleep!" Gregory was satisfied with that option and nods as he feels Moon's right arm creeping around to pull the boy into his lap.
Although he is not comfortable yet with having Moon watch him without Freddy supervising and making sure it's safe for him, he will still try to not be a naughty boy and follow Moon's rules of sleeping. "Don't hold back in trying to put me to sleep Moon. Give it your all." Gregory said nervously as he clutches onto Moon's right hand, as if afraid that he will vanish in front of him in the dark. If by chance this upgrade didn't protect Moon from Vanny's control, Freddy will come after them once he finds out Gregory's unfortunate fate.
Moon appeared to be cocking his head from left to right as if moving in rhythm of the song in his head. Then he starts to sing slow and soothing…
"Days seem sometimes as if they'll never end
Sun digs its heels to taunt you
But after sunlit days, one thing stays the same
Rises the moon
Days fade into a watercolor blur
Memories swim and haunt you
But look into the lake, shimmering like smoke
Rises the moon"
Gregory could feel that soft pull from the song that Moon is singing to him. His eyes start to get a little sleepy but he is still trying to hang on and stay awake. He was kind of surprised to hear how good of a singer Moon is. He did overhear Sun speaking through the speaker only once in a "HEY!", when he was mentioned in the song.
"Oh-oh, close your weary eyes
I promise you that soon the autumn comes
To darken fading summer skies
Breathe, breathe, breathe
Days pull you down just like a sinking ship
Floating is getting harder
But tread the water, child, and know that meanwhile
Rises the moon
Days pull you up just like a daffodil
Uprooted from its garden
They'll tell you what you owe, but know even so
Rises the moon"
No sooner than the second part of the song comes on, Gregory feels like he can't stay awake anymore, fighting to keep an eye peeled if Vanny shows up. He only hoped that Moon and Freddy and even Chica would protect him if necessary as he leans his head resting into Moon's chest. He lets go of Moon's hand while in his sleeping state, though Moon kept his grip on him gently.
"You'll be visited by sleep
I promise you that soon the autumn comes
To steal away each dream you keep
Breathe, breathe, breathe"
By the end of the lullaby, Gregory fell asleep as Moon repositions him to sleep in his lap while wrapping his left arm around the sleeping boy and resting his right hand on the boys head. Soon Moon leans down on the floor while wrapping his arms around the child and temporarily goes into sleep mode, this way if anything happens he will spring back into action the moment someone dares to disturb the kid while he is napping. This only happens when he only has to deal with one kid in the Daycare, when its with more than two he just goes to sleep on the balcony.
As they slept in the quiet room, there the big wooden doors leading out of the Daycare slowly creaks open showing the white paw holding a knife. Then seeing as the coast was clear, the dancing rabbit lady named Vanny looks around silently and quietly skips over to where Gregory and Moon were sleeping. Her red eyes on her mask glowing in the darkness.
"There you are!" Vanny beams with excitement as she brandishes her knife in hand, ready to kill the boy and use him to revive her master.
Making sure that Moon would not be disturbed from his slumber, Vanny carefully goes near the sleeping boy, trying ever so slightly to pull him away from Moon's grip. Just for tonight, she didn't want the Animatronic to be used for her sick and twisted agenda of killing the boy, preferring to get the boy alone as she tiptoes with the sleeping child away from the quiet room.
"You have given me enough trouble Gregory." Vanny whispers menacingly from underneath her plastered smile on the rabbit mask. "Freddy and Moon will not save you this time! You will be a good boy and help out my master with your death." She goes out from the big wooden doors and takes Gregory outside of the Daycare. However she was unaware that something woke up the moment she took Gregory and it watches quietly in the darkness, crawling up the walls of the Daycare like a spider watching its prey.
Once she thought that she got to the gate leading out of the Daycare and into one of the darkened hallways of the mall, Vanny lays the sleeping Gregory down on the ground with the blanket still wrapped around him. She thought for a moment to wrap him up a little tighter so that he can't escape even if he tried to get away from her. With that job done, she takes her knife and raises it up in the air, ready to kill the child for her master.
Just before she plunges the knife, intending on stabbing Gregory in the throat, something stops her hand from within the darkness. A hand clasping tightly onto hers. "Naughty girl… Naughty girl…" Moon growls as he keeps his grip on the rabbit lady and twisting her wrist, almost breaking it and forcing her to drop the knife on the floor.
Not one to be trifled with in a fight, Vanny uses her other hand to take out a remote with a button. "Corrupt Moon!" She presses the button, hoping that the Animatronic will fall for the glitch virus and do her bidding.
Moon shakes his head at her and twists his head in a full circle to the right as his red eyes glowed in the dark. He even wags his left pointer finger at the rabbit lady. "It's past your bedtime! You must be punished!" Upon realizing that her glitch virus won't work on Moon anymore and that he is free from her control, Vanny starts shaking in dread as Moon pulls her up to the ceiling, laughing and saying. "Nighty Night!"
A few minutes later as soon as Vanny was taken care of, Moon jumps down from the ceiling and takes the sleeping Gregory from the floor and delivers him back to the quiet room in the Daycare. Freddy and Chica came by to the Daycare one minute later to see if everything was all right, noticing that Moon is holding Gregory in his lap as they sleep peacefully. The two Animatronics join them by resting near Moon for the rest of the nap. While Freddy rested on his side with his right arm propped up to rest his head on, Chica went to gather up some pillows and sleep peacefully under the stars.
Two hours later the lights went back on in the Daycare as Moon changes into Sun and wakes up Gregory from his nap. Feeling a little refreshed from his nap, Gregory stretches his arms and legs out as he looks around. "Did you have a good nap Superstar?" Freddy asks curiously as he rubs the boy on the head.
Gregory yawns as he rubs his eyes a bit from his two hour nap. "Yeah, I kind of forgot how to appreciate having naps. But I am kind of curious about what happened while I was asleep." Turning to Sun, he makes a question for Moon to answer. "Did Vanny ever show up while I was sleeping?"
Without speaking Sun shrugs his shoulders as he doesn't know what happened. Moon responded though with a chuckle through the speaker on Sun. "I put her in time out!"
Meanwhile outside of the Daycare on the ceiling, there was Vanny struggling to get out from a blanket prison while hanging upside down on a zip-line string.
A/N: I hope you enjoyed this chapter! I always wanted to picture Moon restraining intruders with the blankets as a means to blind them in their fight against him and keep them contained until the police arrive on the scene.
