What to expect in this chapter: After playing another arcade game to save Roxy from Vanny's control, Gregory thought he saw something or someone is watching him, but it is not Vanny.

Chapter 5 – Racing to save Roxy

"Uh, Freddy, are you sure that this will work in getting Roxy to snap out of it with just one game?" Gregory asks in concern while he was in the driver seat of the arcade he was in. Freddy and Chica were acting as guards around him so that he will remain safe while playing the game. Chica was pretty useful in deterring the nearby S.T.A.F.F. bots to stay clear with her voice box, but one of their main problems is trying to keep Roxy, who is still under the glitches virus, busy.

It is quite possible that soon after Gregory and the gang got close to the racing arcade game that Vanny would try to keep them from finding any clues to save Monty. There was one time that Gregory asked Freddy about if he had to save DJ Musicman from the glitch virus, but luckily Freddy told him that he doesn't have to worry about the spider DJ. "The DJ is a very big Animatronic that requires a lot of power circuitry and a lot of memory power to recognize what is going on. If he was infected with the virus, he has never mentioned it to me during one of my calls. I think he is safe from being used by Vanny. She can't get much use out of him in patrolling the mall since that he can't leave his DJ post, much like Sun who usually stays in the Daycare until the lights go off." Freddy informs Gregory about the true reason why the DJ wasn't chasing after him as often as the other Animatronics, much to the boys relief on the subject.

Chica interrupts Freddy in the conversation while Gregory was playing with the arcade. "That is unless she thought about luring kids over to kill them with some very loud music. But we better not give her any ideas if she is still watching us."

"Okay, Freddy, I completed the game, but I don't see any sign of Roxy returning to normal..." Gregory mentions as he pointed out the completed game he did when he finished racing with Freddy on the screen. "I don't think we are going to save Roxy tonight if the game is acting like its completely normal."

"Hmm... You have completed all of the 50 cc courses Superstar." Freddy notes with curiosity as he studies the arcade better. At first he thought that Gregory had to get the high score in the racing game to free Roxy, "See if you can try to complete all of the racing speed modes to win the game. There is still the 100 cc and 150 cc. The last mode is a mirror mode. I heard that one is supposed to be pretty difficult." It was challenging at first but Gregory managed to get through the whole thing and win first place as he was playing Freddy in the racing game.

And then the error came on in the game. What came next was someone crashing into Freddy, knocking him down to the ground as Chica went over to shield Gregory from whoever was trying to ambush them. "Wha... Where am I? What's going on here?" A female voice was asking as the figure was leaning on top of Freddy. Roxanne Wolf, or Roxy for short took a moment to get her bearings together until she saw she was on top of her band leader.

"Roxy, are you feeling okay now?" Freddy asks, blushing a little bit at how close she was to him before she springs back up holding her hands in the air like she didn't want anything to do with whatever she was doing to him.

"F-F-FREDDY! I AM SO SORRY! Whatever I did, I swear I have no idea what came over me!" Roxy feeling embarrassed about the situation tries to correct it. She later got embraced by Chica from behind. "Chica! You are here too?! Is there a party I was not aware of?"

Chica shakes her head as she explains. "Your not missing out on anything Roxy! It is all thanks to Gregory and Freddy that they have rescued us and the Daycare Attendant!"

Gregory explains exactly what had happened while Roxy moves herself away from Freddy and help him get back up. "We believe that Vanny was controlling you through a computer virus to hunt me down. I'm not sure how she did it, but I'm pretty sure it is making Monty act this way too since you, Chica and the Daycare Attendant were under the virus' control."

Roxy grits her sharp teeth as her amber eyes glowed for a moment. "That virus made me loose control of myself, making me feel insecure and that I want to be the best in everything. I almost hurt an innocent child and Freddy! Whoever this Vanny is, she is GOING TO PAY!" Gregory could see that she was in the mood for revenge against Vanny for hacking her to hurt a child. "So you are Gregory huh? I owe you big time for bringing me back to my old self! If you need anything from me, just let me know Hot-Shot! I can use my special eyesight to see any clues or devices that you will need to fight back against our mystery hacker."

"Thanks! But I think we better get you back to Parts/Services to give you an anti virus software so that you don't get hacked again." Gregory said as he crawls out from the arcade game and gets picked up by Freddy.

"If you don't mind Freddy, I will happily lead Roxy back to Parts/Services while you and Gregory hang out for a while. I know that the Daycare Attendant wants Gregory to come back to the Daycare for his nap soon." Chica exclaims as she takes Roxy by the shoulder and walks with her to where they need to go. "I will make sure Roxy gets what she needs in the meantime."

"Don't take too long girls." Freddy exclaims as he waves at them before they leave the room. Once everything was quiet for the both of them Freddy turns excitedly to Gregory and embraces him. "Way to go Superstar! Now all what we need to do is find a way to save Monty from the virus and the gang will be back to normal!"

"Not only that, but Roxy will join us in the Daycare with her new anti-virus software." Gregory muses with a pleased smile on his face. He half wondered what all he will do with Chica and Roxy now that they are back to the way they were before Vanny messed with them. He can already imagine cooking with Chica in the kitchen, racing with Roxy in the go-karts, or maybe play some guitar with them.

"I am so glad that we decided to look for more clues in the Pizzaplex Superstar! I feel like I need to write down some ideas for the songs I will be singing with the gang once the building opens up again." Freddy couldn't hide the excitement in his glowing blue eyes. Gregory holds his hand as they were just getting started on walking through the arcade. Their plan was to regroup at Freddy's room so that they can wait for Roxy and Chica to catch up with them and Freddy was planning on writing down his new songs for the next concert.

Gregory smiles as he lets Freddy go on with talking about his plans on helping Roxy join them in finding out how to free Monty from the virus. That was when he thought he heard someone commenting beside him. "I'm really happy for you Gregory." He heard the voice of a girl whispering in his ear. For a strange moment, he thought he was seeing things, blinking his eyes to make sure he wasn't, as the person talking to him was leaning on top of Freddy's left shoulder. He narrows his eyes in confusion, wondering if Freddy was seeing this ghost the way he was, but just like when Freddy couldn't see Vanny when he was describing the fountain, he was the only one to see the shadowy figure looking down on him smiling like she is pleased to see him.

He could see the ghostly gold glow of the dress and heel shoes. The gold eyes peering to him amid the darkness of the arcade. Her sword and lantern are with her, floating by her side. There was no mistaking it that this was the Princess from the Princess Quest games he had played in two separate arcades. "I'm happy you have found a family to call your own Gregory. There is another Princess Quest game you need to find in Vanny's room. Find it and free her from HIM. I will guide you to where you need to go. It will be just like old times when we partnered up together."

"W-Who are you?!" Gregory attempts to speak to the ghost of the Princess before she fades away from his sight, taking her lantern and sword with her.

"I am Freddy, Gregory." Freddy said, thinking that Gregory had lost his thought for a moment. "Did you suddenly forget who I am, Superstar?"

Gregory shakes his head as he corrects himself to his friend. "No! No! I didn't forget you Freddy! I was asking the Princess who she was and I wanted to ask her how does she know me." Gregory explains simply.

Freddy cocks his eyebrow in confusion at his statement. "That's odd. I didn't see any princess around here. Do you mean to tell me that you were talking to a ghost?" It wouldn't be the first time some of the employees or customers in the Pizzaplex had discussed that they thought they could hear the sounds of childrens laughter or crying in the darkness of the Plex.

"I -I can practically see Vanny traversing through the Plex looking for me, but to add a ghost to the list kind of unnerves me a bit." Gregory said as he feels something is in his eyes, so he rubs it. "But... why do I feel like I know that ghost? And... why am I... Crying?"

"Would you like to hang out with me for a bit to feel better Superstar? I can show you some of my song pieces and you can tell me if it meets your approval before I drop you off to the Daycare." Freddy offers as he notices Gregory rubbing some fresh tears from his eyes. They were not tears of sadness, per say, but more for something that was lost that the boy couldn't put his finger on. Was the Princess a long lost friend of his? How does she know him personally?

Gregory shakes his head. "I-Its nothing to worry about. I think I would rather go back to the Daycare before Moon starts to worry and come to fetch me himself." He figured he would deal with finding out about the ghosts intentions for him later. Right now, he felt a little tired enough to take a nap.

(Superstar Daycare. Lights off. Fifteen minutes later.)

"Ready for your nap so soon, little Starlight?" Moon says as he leads Gregory back to the napping corner to take his second nap of the day. "I almost thought you were going to hang out with Freddy for a while yet." He was okay with letting the kid have some fun with his friends first before fetching him for his nap, but sometimes its a nice surprise to get Gregory to take his nap earlier than expected, which means more time to have him under his watch.

"No, not this time. Freddy agreed to drop me off here while he goes to check on Chica and Roxy." Gregory tells him honestly. "I just felt like taking a snooze will do me some good after rescuing Roxy and to clear my head from encountering a ghost in the Pizzaplex." He moves to a shelf that Moon had put his new pajamas on and takes out the Freddy pajamas for todays nap. He wanted to try them out to see if they would work. Moon was respectful enough to turn around and wait for Gregory to change into the proper naptime clothes.

Usually whenever kids would say the darndest things, sometimes it would be either out of the blue, on accident, or on purpose to make up a good story Moon and Sun usually just ignore it and focus on something else. But at the mention of ghosts, Moon did a full 360 degree clockwise turn of his head in surprise. He knew that Gregory was not an ordinary kid since he was homeless and in need of a family, but this was unexpected. "You didn't get hurt by the ghost, did you?" Moon asks curiously.

Gregory shakes his head as he gets into position to lie down on the bed. "No. She only came up to me and said she was happy for me and to tell me where to find the next Princess Quest game. I don't really know how or why I felt a connection with her but I think she wants to help me stop Vanny, and to stop whoever this 'HIM' she is talking about." He scratches his head for a moment as he searches around the room for something. "Do you have anything that can help put me to sleep fast and easy for tonight?"

"Right here." Moon answers as he takes something out from underneath his nightcap and walks toward Gregory, showing a light blue candy wrapper with a crescent moon on for the design. "Not every child needs this piece of candy depending on how fast they go to sleep, but my Moondrop candies never fail." He crouches on his knees to pass the candy over to the boy.

"I think I remember seeing this on a poster in the mall." Gregory mentions while studying the candy closely as Moon gets comfortable on the floor beside him. "Sun has one too, if I remember correctly." Moon nods his head to confirm Gregory's good observation skills, as he asks another question. "Do you and Sun care about being called Moondrop and Sundrop at times with the kids? Or do you just go by Sun and Moon?"

'Ho, ho, ho! Starting off with a banger aren't we?' Sun spoke quietly in the speaker as best as he could. 'We are basically just Sun and Moon. But some people call us 'the Drops' because of the posters all over the Daycare!'

"And the nickname just... grew on us." Moon finishes Sun's explanation with a smile.

"Oh! And a lot of the kids at the Daycare came up with a whole list of nicknames for us!" Sun checks off the list from memory to share with Gregory. "Sunrise, Moonrise, Sunlight, Moonlight, Mr. Sun, Mr. Moon, Sunny, Moony, Sundew, Moonman... The kids are all so creative! I'm just waiting for someone to come up with a cheese related one for Moony! Oh, and sometimes we are just called the Daycare Attendant!" Gregory almost got a spark of mischief in his eyes at the thought of coming up with a cheese related nickname for Moon, but one look from Moon ended it.

"Have you ever had any kids that... tried to escape from the Daycare under your watch?" Gregory asks this next question carefully. "Other than me back when we first met?" Moon nods his head while Sun explains.

"There were plenty of times when some of the kids would try to trick us and escape. Whether it is because they don't want to be there in the first place but only went because the parents said so, or if it was because they thought we were boring and not cool so they would try to trick us that way. But WE are hard to trick! One of us is always watching, if I am out and Moon is not, Moon is my second pair of eyes to watch the rulebreakers. If he is out and I am not, then I do the honors of keeping an eye on things. If we caught them and they try to run away from us, I go in my 'Security Alert mode' until the kid gets caught and brought back for a scolding."

"No wonder you guys always know exactly where I am at in the mall, even during the blackouts." Gregory comments quietly, feeling a little sense of apprehension at the thought. No wonder the Daycare Attendant knew exactly where he was at all times in the mall. At least whenever he was being chased by Moon during the blackouts he only had to deal with Moon's quiet laughter and only mentions that its past his bedtime. He couldn't imagine running through the mall with a loud and consistent security alert from Sun chasing after him. "What about the kids who didn't want to leave the Daycare?"

Sun replies quickly. "We don't get that very often, but when we do it shows us that we are loved by the children! There was this one time when a mom was picking up her son after her book club meeting in the mall. Once she arrived I knew to get the little sunshine ready to return home with his mother, but when he saw her he hugged my right leg tightly and said he wanted to stay with Mr. Sun. I told him gently that was nice of him but it was time for him to return to his mom. He didn't want to move from my leg and claims that he would miss me and he wanted to play more with me, I convinced him that the next time he comes I will make sure to get plenty of games and toys for him. I told him I will always be waiting right here for him once he gets back and he was happy about our agreement."

"Did you have any kids who thought they were too old for the Daycare?" Gregory's next question came up.

"Well..." Sun sounds like he was hesitating to tell the truth in the speaker for a moment. "Playtime is encouraged, especially for the older ones who get dragged to the Daycare with their younger siblings or cousins... But... If they don't want to play, they don't want to play."

Moon finishes what Sun was trying to say. "We will leave them be... As long as they behave. But if they don't behave they either get banned from the Daycare or put in timeout."

"A rulebreaker is a rulebreaker!" Sun chimes in with that response.

"One more question before I go to sleep... Uh... Do you call every kid in the Daycare 'Starbeam' and 'Starlight'? I just want to know why you guys call me by those nicknames since Freddy would call me 'Superstar'." Gregory says apprehensively as if thinking that one might be a private question the Daycare Attendant doesn't have to answer.

Sun answers rather quickly with a chuckle. "I don't call every kid Starbeam Gregory. I sometimes call kids by Sunshine, Morning Dove or Shooting Star. That's just my way of including everyone who comes to our Daycare."

"As for me," Moon interjects, "I only call the kids little stars, or little ones. I only reserve 'Starlight' for whoever is the favorite." Gregory's eyes almost pop open in surprise. He was just about to ask Moon for an explanation on why he is favoring him over the other kids since he wasn't originally the guest when they first met, but once he took a bite from the Moondrop candy in his hand, he started to yawn and feel a little sleepy. Moon saw this as he gently eases Gregory's head down to rest his head on the pillow before he falls fast asleep.

Moon wraps the blanket around Gregory's sleeping form and crossing his legs around the sleeper in his arms. He thought for a moment that maybe he should take Gregory with him up the tower so that he can sleep peacefully without worrying about any intruders coming into the Daycare. He didn't want another confrontation with Vanny after the last time he got Gregory to take his nap. That one time after he put her in time out, he mentioned to Sun privately in their communicator that Sun should contact the security bots to restrain the serial killer better, but they found that the bunny had found a way to escape from the blanket prison a few hours later before Sun decided to get the Fizzy Faz machine. Where the bunny girl went off to, it was beyond them to comprehend, but they had a suspicion that this was not the last time they will face her. The first time he faced her, he just wanted to get the job done quickly and get Gregory back to the Daycare. He didn't have time to get his sweet revenge against the rabbit lady. The next time he sees her, he won't make it quick and easy for her to escape.

Someday he and the gang would find a way to either take her out altogether or find out what is wrong with her. But as Moon pulls the sleeping boy closer to his chest and pets his head soothingly, he will bide his time to wait until the rabbit girl would show her face again. He briefly wondered who it was behind the mask. Thanks to the discussion he had with his little starlight, there is a new clue to find out what is going on within the Pizzaplex. Though why is the clue centered around the Princess Quest games is beyond his understanding.

For now though, they will focus on getting the rest of the gang back together. Next up on the list is freeing Monty from the virus, so that will take the most time to figure out. Whether it will be in one of his arcade games or in Gator Golf itself is where Moon feels will be the source to free the gator. Maybe they can try to find what remained of Bonnie and bring him back for an extra hand? He and Sun could also help out Gregory in figuring out why he is seeing that ghost. Much like the other Animatronics, the Daycare Attendant was aware of the haunted stories of the Pizzaplex, even researching about the bloody history of the place that came before the Plex was properly built as a way of moving forward from all of the terrible circumstances that led to the Fazbear Entertainment Company being rather infamous.

Moon decides to not worry too much about it. For now he must watch over Gregory while he takes his nap. He keeps thinking quietly to himself about all of the fun stuff that he and Sun still have yet to do with the boy and Freddy. They will see what happens as soon as naptime is over.
