Dee had originally asked Ryo to teach him karate just to have an excuse to grope his partner, but that had been before they'd become a couple; these days, he no longer needed excuses. Not that he was free to grope his lover whenever he wanted, and never at work, or at least not where someone might see, but at home or on dates, Ryo seldom pushed him away.

The karate training was still happening though, and now it was because Dee was genuinely interested in learning, not just as another form of self-defence, but also because it was a great workout, helping to improve his fitness and flexibility. And okay, the groping was never gonna be less than fun, even if these days it was a bonus rather than the primary motivation.

Ryo was still way better than Dee though. He feinted left, and once again Dee fell for the trick. As he shifted his weight in order to block his partner, Ryo changed direction, caught Dee's wrist, swept one foot around, and Dee hit the mat, flat on his back.

"Ooof!"

Kneeling above him, Ryo shook his head. "You make the same mistake every time. How many times do I have to tell you? Don't commit too early, keep your weight evenly distributed so that if your opponent changes the direction of attack, you can counter."

"How often am I gonna come up against someone on the street knows karate? Probably never."

"Can you afford to take that chance?" Ryo's expression was serious. "Besides, I thought you wanted to work your way up to black belt. If you're serious about that, you'll have to prove your proficiency before you can progress to the next level."

"Exams, great. Okay, let's try that again." This time Dee wouldn't be fooled.
