"Why do I always have to lose everything?" Ryo complained, systematically upending everything in his apartment. "I've been trying so hard lately, and I thought I was doing better at making sure I put things where I can find them again, but now…" He trailed off and got down on the floor to check under the sofa.
"Hey, nobody's perfect." Dee came out of Ryo's bedroom, where he'd been checking under the bed. "Don't beat yourself up; yesterday was exhaustin', it's hardly surprisin' somethin' slipped your mind last night."
"But it shouldn't have! I got into a routine for that very reason, so I wouldn't misplace things through being tired and getting careless. I come in, put my keys in the dish on that table by the door, take my shoes off, and hang my coat up. Then I put both my personal and work phones in their chargers, put my wallet and loose change with my handcuffs on the nightstand, and lock my gun and taser in the safe before I do anything else. So why can't I fine my stupid wallet? If I've lost it, I'll have to cancel all my cards!"
"Did ya check your coat pockets?"
"Of course I did! That was the first place I looked!"
"How about the pockets of the pants you had on yesterday?"
"Yes, I'm not stupid! I emptied the laundry basket and went through everything in it! All I found was a note from Bikky's school, and a half-eaten candy bar."
Dee smirked. "I can understand him forgettin' the first of those, but not the second."
"It was melted and stuck to the pocket lining."
"Guess even Bikky has limits."
"Deee!"
"Okay, did ya check the pants you're wearin'?"
Ryo stopped dead. "I'm an idiot, aren't I?"
"Nah, just forgetful."
