Classic rock music was blaring out onto the sidewalk as Dee and Ryo made their way into the club. They could feel the heavy bass beat through the soles of their feet as they crossed the foyer, checking their jackets at the cloakroom before passing through swinging doors.

The place was really jumping tonight, with a live band on stage instead of the usual DJ, and the music was so loud it made any kind of conversation out of the question, unless you happened to know sign language. Even trying to think about anything other than the music was an exercise in futility, and as for ordering drinks…

Actually, that turned out okay; the two detectives were regulars, and the bar staff knew them by sight, so as soon as they reached the bar, the nearest bartender nodded to them and poured two shots of tequila, their usual first drink of the night. After a couple of shots, they'd switch to alternating beer and water to keep themselves hydrated, but the tequila loosened them up, wiping away the stresses of their workday and relaxing them so they could get down to the business of having fun.

Knocking back their first drinks in unison, and slamming the glasses down to be refilled, they grinned at each other, feet already tapping, feeling the rhythm of the music working its way into their bones. They turned their backs to the bar, sipping their drinks slowly as they watched the dancers and tried to see over their heads to the stage. Whoever the band was, they were good; the lead singer's voice rang out clearly above the music.

Setting their empty glasses down again, they moved away from the bar, pushing through the crowds to the dancefloor, getting ready to rock the night away.
