The sun hangs low in the sky, casting a golden glow over the secluded cove where young Damon plays. His grandfather's tales of hidden treasures and mysterious sea creatures have always fascinated him, and today, he is determined to explore every nook and cranny of the rocky shoreline.

As Damon clambers over a particularly slippery rock, his foot gives way, and he tumbles into the cold, churning water below. The shock of the icy waves steals his breath, and he struggles to keep his head above water. Panic sets in as he feels himself being pulled under by the strong current.

Just as his vision blurs, gentle hands grasp him firmly. Through the haze, he briefly glimpses a shimmering figure with flowing brown hair and a tail that sparkles like the sunlit sea. The mermaid's eyes are kind and filled with concern as she swiftly swims him to the surface.

Damon's consciousness fades as he is lifted onto the shore, the last thing he sees is the mermaid's serene smile. Moments later, he awakes to his grandfather's frantic voice and the rough texture of the sand beneath him.

"Damon! Damon, are you alright?" his grandfather cries, shaking him gently.

Damon coughs and sputters, water trickling from his mouth. He looks around, dazed and confused. "Grandpa, what happened?"

"You fell into the water and almost drowned but you're safe now," his grandfather, Joseph assures him, relief washing over his face. "I found you here on the shore."

Damon tries to remember how he got out of the water, but his mind is blank.

He has no memory of the mermaid who saved him, her image fading like a forgotten dream.

Thank you for reading. I hope you like this fun little adventure.

HUGE thanks to wattskerrylou for making the cover image for me. Read her "The Bourbon Diaries" story. I never read stories where DE aren't the main focus but hers had me enthralled. I loved it.

HUGE thanks to Eva. Love you!

I'll post the next chapter soon. Reviews are love! ;)
