Chapter 3: A Gummy By Any Other Name
9800 BC - Gummi Glen - Dunwyn - New Land of Magic
Sunni is complaining to Zummi about all of her responsibilities
"I don't have any friends my age" Sunni complained "I wish I could change my life!"
"A change… a change… follow me!" Zummi said and he leads her to his study and he looks through the Great Book of Gummi "I know it was here… I saw it just the other day… ah!" and he casts a spell and a hat appears
"What is it?" Sunni asked
"The Book calls it a changing hat" Zummi said "I don't know what that means exactly, but it should add a little flair to your wardrobe" and he hands her the hat
"Yeah… flair" Sunni said, taking the hat "thanks, Zummi" and she returns to cleaning. She puts on the hat and looks in the mirror "I look just like Grammi" and she transforms into Grammi as Cubbi walks into the room "Cubbi!" and she transforms into Cubbi "It must be the hat" and she takes it off and returns to her true form "that's why it's called a changing hat"
"Watch this" Cubbi said as he puts on the hat "Gruffi" and transforms into Gruffi and picks up a bucket "what is this new fangled contraption, the ancient Gummis never used these" and Sunni laughs
"Wait a minute…" Sunni said and she grabs the hat back and puts it on "Princess Calla" and transforms into the princess
"Wow" Cubbi said "you look great" and Sunni looks in the mirror to see Calla's reflection looking back
"Servants" Sunni said "beautiful dresses, flair!"
"What are you talking about?" Cubbi asked
"I'm gonna see what it's like to be a princess" Sunni said, leaving
Hall of Legends
"What do you know?" Simultaneous said "that Gummi Bear actually managed to create a glamour charm"
"Impressive indeed" Ruel said "it takes most beings months or years to be able to perform the glamour spell, even talented ones will take at least a month. Being able to actually create a glamour charm is impressive"
"Merlin" Simultaneous said "take these four leaf clover charms I borrowed from Oz and replicate Zummi's spell. And try not to make them into an ugly hat. Should also work on making the voice change as well… and make it work by intentional thought rather by spoken word"
"I'm on it" Merlin said "and what should we do with them when done?"
"Put them back in Oz" Simultaneous said
"Wouldn't that be interfering?" Merlin asked
"No more than creating the Holy Grail was" Simultaneous said "we're not creating them for a specific person to aid them, it's just to try out a new spell and if it helps someone down the road, fine"
Castle Dunwyn - New Land of Magic
As people come into the castle to hold market, Cavin runs into a girl
"Hey, look where you're going" Cavin said and he realizes he recognizes the girl "Princess, what are you doing?"
"Shh" Calla said "I'm running away" and she grabs his hand and pulls him towards the castle's exit
"You can't do that" Cavin said "you're royalty"
"I've had it with all that" Calla said "Father and I had a fight about what princesses should and shouldn't be. I just want to be a peasant from now on and I want you to help me"
"But I'm a squire, I swore an oath to protect the royal family" Cavin said "I can't just let you leave"
"Squires also don't hold the hands of princesses" Calla said "and you seem to have no problem doing that" Cavin realizes that he never let go of Calla's hand after she grabbed it. He lets go and blushes
"Alright… if you're so insistent you're gonna leave I guess I'm bound to make sure you don't get hurt" Cavin said as they leave the castle
Outside the castle, Sunni, glamoured as Calla, and Cubbi approach
"I think the princess should have a pet bear, don't you?" Cubbi asked and he took off his clothes and rolled in some mud, making him look like an ordinary bear cub
"Good thinking" Sunni said and they head into the castle, where they're met by a guard
"Princess, is something wrong?" the guard asked
"No, I'll just go on in, is that alright?" Sunni asked
"Of course your highness, it's your courtyard" the guard said, saluting as she walked by
"I could get used to this" Sunni said
In the woods outside the castle, Calla runs away from a puppy
"Run, Cavin, it's a wolf!" Calla said
"It's a dog" Cavin said
"His teeth could tear us to shreds" Calla said
"It's a puppy" Cavin said
"Cavin, where's your imagination?" Calla asked "if I want to pretend it's a wolf, it's a wolf"
"Okay, okay, it's the biggest wolf I've ever seen" Cavin said "better run along now wolfie" and the puppy runs off
"Thank you, Cavin" Calla said "say what do you think is over the next hill?"
"Probably another hill" Cavin said and Calla glares at him "or a mountain full of dragons"
"Good" Calla said "let's go see"
At the castle, Sunni and Cubbi see a banquet being set up and stuff themselves with it. Sir Tuxford walks in and sees Cubbi and sends the guards after him. Sunni chases after them
Outside the castle, it's getting dark and raining
"It's getting dark" Calla said "I'm wet and I'm cold and I'm starving"
"Welcome to peasant life your highness" Cavin said
"I'm glad I did this" Calla said "and I want to do it again someday, but right now, I want to go home"
"Thank goodness" Cavin said "I know a shortcut through the woods"
In the castle, Sunni and Cubbi arrive in Calla's room and hear a knock on the door
"Calla, may I come in?" Gregor asked
"Hide" Sunni said to Cubbi and he does "come in your majesty"
"My" Gregor said "aren't we formal? Still angry at your silly old father?"
"No, of course not" Sunni said
"Is something wrong with your voice?" Gregor asked
"No" Sunni said "just a little sore throat"
"Calla, I'm sorry about the argument we had" Gregor said "I just get short-tempered sometimes, but I'd give up my kingdom rather than hurt you"
"Thank you" Sunni said
"You know I love you, don't you?" Gregor asked
"Of course" Sunni said as she hugs him
Outside the castle, Cavin and Calla run into a pair of Ogres, who figure out she's the princess and take her back to Duke Igthorn's land, Drekmore.
In Calla's room, the servants have brought Calla's dinner. When Sunni opens the door she realizes something is very wrong
"You're not a servant, you're…" Sunni began
"Duke Igthorn" Igthorn said, disguised as a servant and having snuck in with the peasants earlier. He grabs Sunni and runs out with her
"I've got to get the other Gummis" Cubbi said as he comes out of hiding
At Castle Drekmore, the Ogres throw Cavin in the dungeon and Calla in the tower
At Gummi Glen, Cubbi informs the others of Sunni's situation

Duke Igthorn arrives back with Sunni still glamoured as Calla
"Lock her up" Igthorn said
"Didn't we do that once?" one Ogre asked another
"I'm pretty sure" another Ogre said
In the tower, Sunni is thrown in a room that is then locked
"This is what I get for trying to be something I'm not" Sunni said "stupid hat!"
"Who's there?" Calla asked as she wakes up
"Princess Calla" Sunni said
"That's impossible" Calla said "I'm Princess Calla"
"No I am!" Sunni said "I know everyone at the castle, there's Cavin, Sir Tuxford, King Gregor" unintentionally turning into each one as Calla looks on in shock "what's the matter? You're staring at me like I'm an Ogre" and she realizes she's now an Ogre "I'm sorry, I'm not an Ogre, I'm just a…" and she takes off the hat and returns to her true form "Gummi Bear"
"A Gummi Bear" Calla said "but you're only fairy tales"
"No we're not" Sunni said "we just hide a lot"
Outside the castle, the Gummi Bears hide under a cart to get into the castle
Inside the castle, Cavin has escaped the dungeon via the sewer and climbs the tower to get to Calla
Inside the tower, Calla and Sunni go out the window onto a ledge and try to get to an unlocked room.
At the bottom of the tower, Duke Igthorn enters and the Gummi Bears slip in behind him, unnoticed.
In the tower, Calla and Sunni slip inside after Duke Igthorn goes up and run into the Gummis, who try to hide from Calla
"It's alright" Sunni said "we got thrown into a cell together, she knows about us"
"You must be Grammi" Calla said to Grammi "Sunni said you're a wonderful cook"
"Always pleased to meet such a fine young woman" Grammi said
Outside the tower, Cavin makes it to the top as Duke Igthorn walks into the room
"So sorry to have inconvenienced you my dear, but…" Igthorn began, but quickly realized the room was empty "guards get in here!"
"Problem?" an Ogre asked as he and another come in
"There's a big problem, where's the girl?" Igthorn asked as Cavin tumbles into the room
"Uh, oh" Cavin said
"Seize him, you dolts!" Igthorn said, but Cavin manages to escape down the stairs "after him!" Cavin runs into Calla and the Gummis and they all run into the courtyard
"There's no time to lower the drawbridge" Gruffi said as the Ogres come towards them
"I have an idea" Calla said "give me that hat" and she takes it from Sunni "Duke Igthorn" and she transforms into Igthron and distracts the Ogres as the Gummi Bears and Cavin try to lower the drawbridge, but fails
"It's not use, we're not strong enough" Zummi said
"That's it, Gummiberry Juice" Cavin said and Grammi hands him some. He drinks it and lowers the drawbridge. Calla dismisses the Ogres and then escapes with the others

Sunni shows Calla around Gummi Glen
"Won't you stay for breakfast?" Grammi asked
"I'd love to stay" Calla said "but we must get back before the castle wakes up" and they leave
"There's something I probably should've told you before I gave you that hat" Zummi said to Sunni "probably as soon as I opened the Great Book of Gummi. Magic always come with a price"
"Was getting kidnapped the price of the glamour?" Sunni asked
"I don't know, but it seems likely" Zummi said
"Then why do we use magic at all?" Gruffi asked "seems like too much trouble"
"Magic isn't wrong and sometimes the price is as simple as using it to help someone" Zummi said
"But this hat caused a lot of trouble" Sunni said "imagine if it fell into Duke Igthorn's hands" and she throws it in the fire
"Well done, Sunni" Zummi said "if we ever need another one, I can make it, but we shouldn't leave magical items like that laying around"
