Good god, rewriting this was a pain in the ass. I mean really, what the hell was I writing
This is an AU. This takes place between the episodes "The Jedi" And "The Tragedy". Also, I'm going to use normal curses instead of the Star Wars ones.
I write these cause I like it, but not seeing any reviews makes me demotivated. Please, I beg you to consider reviewing
CHAPTER 1
THE OUTCAST
(Rewritten)
In the vast, infinite expanse of space, a weirdly shaped spacecraft soared through the deep, dark void. Its main body was narrow and elongated, with two large cylindrical engines symmetrically attached to the top sides. At the front was a sleek glass windshield made for a panoramic view from the cockpit, revealing a control panel with holographic displays. Under the glass screen were two energy cannons.
Inside the cockpit, There were two life forms. One was a male humanoid, and wore dark brown leather clothes, covered with steel-colored armor plating. His most striking feature was his helmet. It covered his entire face, hollowing in where the cheekbone would be. It also had a T-shaped visor, allowing him a seemingly limited field of view. Sitting next to him was a smaller, more... weirder, watching the mesmerizing swirl of hyperspace with its mouth open. It had a very small body, barely reaching a foot tall. It had a horizontally oval-shaped head, with two long, pointy ears protruding from the sides. It also had large, pitch-black eyes, which were considered adorable by many.
The steel-clad man gazed intently at the child under his protection. Memories flooded back to when it had used some weird powers. "What did that orange girl call it... Force? Yeah, that's it," he muttered to himself. Turning to the young child sitting beside him, a hint of anticipation bled into his voice as he called out. "Grogu"
Grogu's large ears perked up at the sound of his name, swiveling slightly as he recognized the familiar sound. His dark eyes fixated on the man's helmet, reflecting a mix of curiosity and recognition. Tilting his head to the side, Grogu let out a soft "coo" as he locked his gaze onto the man, conveying a sense of eager anticipation and interest.
"You want this ball?" The man held out a small, metal ball, holding it towards Grogu. The child had a weird obsession with that specific ball, he didn't know why, but he wasn't going to question it. "If you want it you have to take it from me"
Grogu extended his tiny, three-fingered hand out, and closed his eyes, concentrating deeply. The ball started to jiggle in the man's hand, before eventually flying over to the frog-like creature, straight to his hand. Grogu let out a childish giggle, clutching the ball with a sense of victory.
Din's eyes widened under his mask, a spark of excitement flooding his body. "YES!" He shouted, looking proudly at his young-ish charge's display. He watched as Grogu started to play with the ball, using the force as it made it float around his head, looking up at it with child-like wonder, giggling at its achievement.
Din looked one last time with amusement at the child beside him, before turning back to the control panel, pulling up a map of the galaxy in the large blue screen. "Okay... That girl said to go to... what was it... Tython, right? Alright, let's-" His speech was cut short by a low rumbling sound behind him. He turned to it, wondering what could the noise possibly be when he saw his charge clutching his stomach, his ears drooping slightly. Din let out a small sigh as he chuckled inwardly. "Alright, first we'll get you something to eat"
Din turned back to the control panel, his fingers sliding across the screen, looking at the nearby systems. "Let's see what planet we're coming across..." He said as he remembered that his ship was still in hyperspace. "Unknown Regions? Hm... not under the jurisdiction of the new republic, and no known imperial activity there, How does that sound?" He turned back to look at grogu, who stared back at him with confusion, his head tilted to the side. Grogu, for his part, let out an unintelligible babble. Din smirked in amusement beneath his mask, and turned back to the panel. "Unkown it is then"
It was a quiet Sunday evening in the city of Musutafu, Japan.
*Boom*
Well, Was.
*Boom*
In a park near the outskirts of the city, a young boy, no older than 5, was beating on another boy his age. Not by regular means, instead there were explosions coming out of the boy's hands. The bully had cream-colored hair that spiked out to whichever way they happened to face. They were also seemingly defying gravity, as they never even once bent, let alone fell. He had crimson-colored eyes, filled with glee as he wailed on the helpless child in front of him, the two kids who always followed him around and stroked his ego cheered him on from behind.
"What do you mean you're quirkless?" The blond uttered in engagement, looking down at the pathetic excuse for a former friend. He looked at him with disgust, as if the kid in front of him was a cockroach, and had to be squashed. The boy on the ground had curly, verdant hair, that had some black blended in them. Tears threatened to spill down his face as he looked up at the other boy in defiance. His heart was pounding, he thought his ex-best friend would really kill him, but he didn't care. He glanced back, looking in disappointment at the empty space behind him. All this time he thought he was protecting another child from his former friend's wrath, and the child left. He knew it was the most logical thing to do, but he still felt slightly betrayed
*Boom*
"You really are useless huh? Guess my nickname suits you real well huh, Deku?" The words came out from the vicious child's mouth, his eyes filled with disdain. "P-Please s-stop, Kacchan..." The green-haired boy looked up with tears dripping down his face, begging for the boy he once called a friend to stop his attack. That only seemed to enrage the blond as he pulled his fist back as hard as he could, and threw a right hook at the quirkless boy's face. His palms lit up with a spark as he drove his fist deep into his cheek, eliciting a pained scream from the freckled boy. His cheek was left steaming as he tumbled back, a second-degree burn had already started to form a large blister on it
Katsuki Bakugo was extremely gifted. A mere few months ago he awakened his quirk. He was able to light explosions in his hands, something to do with his sweat, he didn't know, but it sure was cool as hell to him. Everyone had been calling him a future hero, destined to succeed, thus making his ego the size of Mt. Fuji. The other boy, however, Izuku Midoriya, was born without one. Luck was never on his side. He had always dreamed of being a hero, like his idol, All Might, the symbol of peace. To add insult to injury, his parents had tragically passed in an accident the year prior in a villain attack. That only made Izuku more motivated to become what he always wanted, a hero. But that dream was quickly shattered, as he heard the words that would haunt him for the rest of his life.
"I'm sorry, kid. I went through the results multiple times, they were always the same. You, are quirkless."
Those words echoed in his ears as he watched Bakugo gear up another attack, closing his eyes and bringing his arms up weakly in a meek attempt to shield himself. One of the kids flanking Bakugo decided it was the perfect moment to pipe up. "Hey Bakugo, it's getting late, your mom will be mad at you." Bakugo whirled around, glaring daggers at the one who interrupted him, small explosions popping in his right hand. "I don't care what the old hag thinks!" Bakugo responded with a menacing look on his face. Well, as menacing as a 5-year-old could look.
The two boys took a step back. Their eyebrows had risen to the middle of their foreheads in concern for their safety, and put their hands up placatingly, trying to diffuse the situation. Izuku watched the event unfold in front of him and knew he had to act fast. He forced himself up to his feet and made a mad dash out of there, paying no heed to where his legs were taking him. All he cared for was to get out of there, and fast.
Din came in view of the average-sized, blue and green planet. It kind of reminded him of Naboo, in a way, the only difference being the land formations. He descended onto it, activating his ship's cloaking device. He didn't see any probes around the planet, and he was certain that it was very underdeveloped. but he decided to not risk getting detected, he didn't even know if they had made contact with anyone, so it was best to play it safe. He slowly made his descent towards the planet, finding a forest just outside a big city. He touched down on a small clearing and undid the ship's disguise, the Razor Crest coming into view. It was hidden by the surrounding tree's canopy, giving Din a sense of security.
He lowered the ship's hatch and walked out, inspecting the surrounding area, Grogu following close behind him. He had his hand on his blaster, ready to draw it at anyone and anything. A few seconds later, he let out a small sigh as he let his hand fall from his holster, but still kept his guard up. Just in case. He turned back to his charge, the green child's void-like eyes staring back, wide in curiosity. "I'm gonna go look for food. I want you to get back in the ship, and don't touch anything, alright?"
Grogu tried to protest but Din picked up the green-skinned child and placed him back in the ship, closing the hatch. Din shook his head and turned back, walking out to the forest. He shifted his focus back on the main objective: food. He decided to go out to the city nearby, he was bound to find food there. He was about to make his way toward it before he paused. He looked down at his attire, wondering if the people here would look at him funny or not. Then he realized there was a big rifle attached to his back, that would definitely attract some suspicion. He let out a small sigh. Ultimately, he decided to stay back. "Guess I gotta hunt" He muttered under his breath, looking around for any nearby animals.
Rumi Usagiyama was sitting on a tree branch. The branch was thick enough to where she could lay down comfortably, and then some. She enjoyed going out to the forest from time to time. To those who know her personally, this would be extremely out of character for her, then again, she was very unpredictable by nature. Being the top student at the most prestigious hero academy in the world, while being her dream scenario, got overwhelming fast. She was about to graduate, and the pressure from the final exams was weighing down on her heavily.
She shook her head, letting go of those thoughts, and let out a soft sigh. She closed her eyes, basking in the warm orange glow of the sun, which was mere minutes away from disappearing. She took in a deep breath, the stress flowing out of her like a river, if only for a few moments. She listened to the ambient sounds of the forest around her, letting a rare, soft smile cross her face.
It soon faded as she heard the rustling of leaves, her bunny ears shooting up straight. Initially, she wrote it off as just the wind, but there was something else to it. It was low, barely audible, but there was another sound among it. She couldn't quite put her finger on it, but she didn't like it. The dark-skinned girl sat up from her perch and looked down, scowling at her choice of clothing. Jeans were the single worst piece of clothing she could wear in this situation. She quickly tied her pale white hair in a bun and leaped off, the branch beneath her feet denting inward as she jumped from tree to tree.
The more rational part of her head kept screaming at her that it was probably nothing, and she was just imagining it, but her gut had never failed her. She came to a stop a few meters, her eyes widening at the sight. She took in the large vehicle, looking over it in awe. She had never seen anything like it before and it made her jaw hang loose. Her eyes fixated on the person who was outside of the vehicle. They narrowed as she saw his armor, and more importantly, his weapons.
'A villain?' She thought skeptically. Without giving it a second thought, she leaped into the clearing recklessly, her motion causing the leaves to rustle.
Din drew his weapon at the sound, whirling around to be faced with a strange girl. He hesitated, not being sure if he should attack her or not. Rumi seized the opportunity dashing forward and threw a powerful kick. Din, having only a few moments to react, put his arms up in an X shape, at the very least shielding his body. The force of the kick was strong enough that it caused him to lose his balance, and get sent back a few meters, rolling on the ground. A dirt cloud had risen in by the girl's power. She stepped out of it, looking down at the man before her distastefully.
"Just turn yourself in already, villain, and I promise not to hurt you." She said with a smile on her face, clearly enjoying the action. "Well, not too much." She added as an afterthought. Din looked up at her. His helmet may have concealed his face from view, but his body language radiated with confusion. "What the hell are you talking about?"
Rumi paused at the man's voice sounding genuinely confused. Her eyes narrowed, bearing deep holes in his helmet. "Don't try to play dumb now, villain... Else I'll reconsider." Said the dark-skinned girl, her predatory smirk returning. Din thought for a moment about how ironic that smirk was on a girl who had the attributes of a bunny, before shaking his head. He was on his knees, trying to catch his breath after such a powerful attack, his blaster still clutched firmly in his hand. He very discreetly set the weapon's mode to stun. He was a bounty hunter, not a murderer... Well, except for the scum that were the remains of the empire.
The bunny girl saw that he was getting back up and shrugged. "Hey, your funeral." She said nonchalantly. She leaped towards Din, preparing a powerful kick. Din quickly fired a stun bolt.
Rumi's eyes widened as she saw a light blue ring headed towards her, gaining size. She tried maneuvering out of the way, twisting her body in an insanely flexible manner. However, it was pointless. The blue light struck her chest, eliciting a pained groan from the white-haired teenager. Her eyes rolled back into her skull, and closed shut as she crash-landed, tumbling along the clearing before coming to a stop.
Din let out a sigh of relief he wasn't aware he was holding. He trusted in his fighting skills, but that girl was strong, a little too strong for his liking. 'I need to get out of here' He thought, looking back one last time at the girl. The bolt would have her out for about an hour, which was more than enough for him. He focused back on his main objective; food. And so, he began searching through the forest for something edible
Izuku Midoriya found himself running through a forest. He had been running for the better part of 20 minutes and his little legs couldn't carry him anymore. He collapsed at the base of a tree, panting heavily, leaning back against the bark. A sliver of fear entered his body as he realized he didn't recognize this part of the forest, even though he'd been there countless times. 'Oh great, now I'm lost...' He brought his knees up to his head and buried his face between them. He was about to start shedding tears before his ears picked up a sound not native to the forest.
Hope rushed through his body as he realized it was a human voice. "People..." He muttered, a small smile creeping up his face. He got up, his legs having now slightly recovered from the intense exercise they were put through. After a few minutes of walking, he came upon a clearing. His eyes bulged out of his skull as he saw the large metal vehicle. A rush of excitement went through his body, forgetting about the voice, and rushed over to the spacecraft, looking at it a look of awe.
Din had lit up a campfire and was sharing the fish he had caught in the nearby river with Grogu, the not-so-young child happily munching on his fish. Nothing compared to the eggs he had eaten that one time, but the fish was very tasty. Din slowly turned around to the sound of footsteps, instinctively reaching for his blaster, but quickly let his guard down as he realized it was only a child. It seemed that the child hadn't noticed him yet, instead deciding to gush over how cool his ship was. So, he decided to sneak up on him. He cleared his throat, causing the green-haired boy to jump.
Izuku snapped his head back, being met with a stare by a man clad in armor. His eyes wandered over the man's body, momentarily forgetting about his freight as he looked at the cool armor the man was wearing. "Your armor is so cool mister! Are you a hero?"
Din looked at the child with amusement, hidden behind his mask. His emotions didn't translate to the freckled preschooler, and lowered his gaze, intimidated by his helmet. The beskar-clad man let out a soft chuckle in response. "No, no I'm not a hero." The boy looked confused, and a look of uncertainty crossed his eyes. "B-but, you're wearing armor and a cape!" Exclaimed Izuku, pointing to the man's attire. Din raised an eyebrow, not that the child could see it. "So?" he questioned, looking at the child intently. Izuku tried to make sense of the situation, but it didn't make sense. His undeveloped mind was running a mile a minute. 'Why would this dude be wearing armor and a cape and...' He looked carefully at Din's outerwear, more specifically, his blaster. 'I-is that a gun?...'
Izuku's eyes widened, fear returning to them for the umpteenth time that day, as he reached a frightening conclusion. He took tried to flee, but as he turned around, he was met with the wall of the ship. He slowly turned back around, looking tentatively at the strange man before him. "Ar-e you a v-villain?" He asked, working up the courage to look up at the man. His body was trembling with fear, feeling the helmet's visor bearing holes in his eyes.
Din was taken aback at the question. He paused, tilting his head to the side, looking genuinely confused. "What?" Was all he could come up with in his flustered state. Izuku looked back, his resolve unwavering. "I-if you're not a hero and you're wearing armor, th-then you must be a villain!"
Din massaged the spot on his helmet where his temple would be, taking a deep breath. "Kid, I really don't know what you're talking about". Din didn't like his predicament. He just wanted to go already, he didn't have time for this. "Look, it's very late... Why don't you go back home, your parents must be worried sick."
Izuku looked to the ground, biting down hard on his cheek, surprising back a sob. After a few moments, he decided to speak. "I don't-" He tried to speak, but tears stung in his eyes, and he choked back a sob. Din deflated, hoping that would be enough to get the kid to leave. Worry also started to creep into his body, looking at the downtrodden child before him.
Izuku looked up, seeing the man's gaze had not left him, and elaborated. He took a shaky breath, and started talking. "My parents... they-" He shut his eyes closed, wiping away tears that were spilling down his cheek. " They d-died in a villain attack..."
The Mandalorian warrior sighed to himself, having suspected it already. He found himself at a loss, and he didn't know what to say. He eventually spoke up. "I... I'm sorry for your loss..." Din was never good with emotions, if anything he was quite bad, so that was the best he could come up with.
Izuku let out another shaky breath, trying to forget about the image of his parents. "I-It's okay..." He said weakly, clearly not believing his own words. They heard quiet footsteps approaching them, and they both turned simultaneously to look at who it was. Grogu waddled around the ship, his eyes fixated on Din, and tugged at his hand. His eyebrows rose behind his helmet as an idea came to him, looking at Grogu, then back to the child.
Izuku stared with his eyes wide at the green creature in front of him, looking at him with curiosity. "What... what is that?" He asked, walking up to look at grogu closely. "This is Grogu." Izuku looked down at the frog-like creature. Grogu looked up, pitch-black eyes meeting green, and let out a soft coo, eliciting a giggle from the boy. "He's cute." He said, looking up to Din with a small smile
The armored man lead the kid back to the campfire. He watched as the child interacted with Grogu, the green-haired boy watching with awe as Grogu manipulated that metal ball he was so attached to with that "force" thing. "Fish?" He offered a stick with a charred fish at the end. Izuku was about to refuse, but his stomach decided that was the perfect moment to start hurting from hunger. He snatched the stick out of Din's hand, and started munching down on the fish, careful not to swallow any bones.
The silence that followed was very awkward. Conflicting thoughts were passing through the Mandalorian's head, and he was starting to get overwhelmed. He decided to break the ice by asking the kid some questions.
"So, what's a hero?"
Izuku's head turned to face him so fast, you could almost hear his neck crack. His wide, disbelieving eyes stared deep in Din's visor. "HOW COULD YOU NOT KNOW WHAT A HERO IS?" he asked with a befuddled expression. He was about to say more but Din put his hand up, and Izuku stopped, looking at the man expectantly. "Alright, calm down, I know what the word means, but, the way you're using it... I think it might be different"
Izuku turned his gaze towards the campfire, muttering to himself about things that Din didn't catch. He'd never met anyone who didn't know what a hero was, and it was quite strange to him. He was so surprised at the man's unawareness, that whenever he tried to speak but couldn't get a single word in before stopping himself, trying to change the wording. Eventually, his mind cleared, allowing him to construct a sentence. "W-Well, a hero is someone who uses their quirks to save people and fight villains. And they're really cool too!" exclaimed Izuku in excitement, making motions with his hand to accentuate their awesomeness.
Din nodded, getting it, for the most part, chuckling inwardly at the child's limited vocabulary. He may have gotten his question answered, but the kid's explanation formed another. "Right, so, what's a quirk?"
Izuku was even more dumbfounded than before. His jaw hung loose, appalled at the question that left the man's lips. "What's... a... quirk?" Din merely nodded, prodding the child to explain "I... How... How do you not know?" The child was exasperated. His eyes looked deeply in the man's visor, searching for a logical explanation.
Din hesitated, not knowing if he should tell the kid, but he mentally shrugged. He was going to be out of there in 10 minutes anyway, wouldn't hurt to tell him. "Because I'm not from this planet, I don't know how any of this works."
Izuku spat out the fish he was munching on, meat, bones, and saliva flying everywhere. Out of all the possible explanations he would have imagined, that was the only one he didn't expect the most. And what was even worse is that it made sense. "S-So... you're an alien?" Asked the green-haired boy in bewilderment
That confirmed Din's suspicions. This planet must not be anywhere near close to space travel yet. "More or less."
Izuku's mind was still filled with confusion, one question replacing itself with another as it was answered. "So if you're an alien, what are you?" Really, the only reason Izuku believed him was because he was a young, way-too-trusting-for-his-own-good child. Was he any older he would've thought the man was crazy.
"First of all, I'm human. I am a Mandalorian"
The boy looked up in wonder. "There are humans out of earth?" He said, a hint of disappointment entering his voice. He'd always imagined aliens as weird and interesting creatures, not just boring humans.
"Yes"
"What's a Mandalorian?"
"Mandalorians are a group of warriors, or at least used to be, most of us are bounty hunters now"
"What's a bounty hunter?"
Din sighed. This kid was asking too many questions, and it was starting to annoy the hell out of him... "You still haven't answered my previous question, what are quirks?" He inquired, a no-nonsense tone entering his voice.
Izuku started to, very animatedly, explain what quirks were. Din watched with his eyebrows raised, in both amusement and in interest at what the boy was telling him. The boy had gotten to the point of muttering to himself, it was evident that he was passionate about the subject. Din cleared his throat, causing Izuku's head to snap at him, a sheepish taking over his face as he scratched the back of his head.
"So, let me get this straight. Your planet has people with powers, those powers being unique to each one?"
"Mhm!" responded Izuku enthusiastically. His smile soon faded, being replaced by a look of sadness. "But... I don't have one..." He said, looking down dejectedly.
He was about to head back in his ship before a light bulb went off in his head. He knew it was stupid of him to do this, but the more he thought about it, the more he wanted to do it. He turned his gaze into Izuku's eyes, squatting down to be at eye level with him "... Let me ask you something kid... Do you have anyone that's close to you?" He asked, staring at the green-haired child expectantly.
Izuku was caught off guard by the question, a look of confusion spreading across his face, being replaced again by a look of sadness. "No... everyone stays away from me cuz I'm quirkless... The kids at the orphanage I live in are spreading rumors that quirklessness is a thing and that it can spread, and it makes other kids not wanna play with me, and even hate me." Izuku said, sadness clear in his voice.
Din listened, frowning beneath his mask at the cruelty of the children. But he smiled inwardly at the opportunity that was presented to him. "So you're an outcast... How about I train you as a Mandalorian?" Izuku's face lit up like a Christmas tree. "You'd really do that for me?"
"Yes. by creed I'm practically obligated to take any abandoned children I come across"
"But I'm not abandoned" Said Izuku, looking up at Din's visor, his eyes wide with confusion
"You might as well be. Now, come. We will begin your training tomorrow." Said the man, opening the hatch of the ship
"Thank you..." Said Izuku softly, and followed close behind his new guardian.
They walked in the Razor Crest, the hatch closing behind them. Din lead him through the one hallway of the ship, the child behind him looking around, examining every nook and cranny of the spacecraft with curiosity. He led them up into the cockpit, and sat down on the pilot's seat, Izuku sitting on the left seat behind him, Grogu on the right. "Sit there, and don't touch anything."
Din paused, realizing he never got the child's name. He turned around to face him, the child staring back at him expectantly. "By the way... I never got your name." It was ridiculous, taking on a child without even knowing his name. Then again, that's what he did with grogu and everything turned out... not bad.
"Oh, I'm Izuku!" Replied the child, a beaming smile plastering his face. The small was contagious, as it caused Din to let out a tiny smile underneath his mask
"... My name is Din. Din Djarin."
"Nice to meet ya!" Said Izuku, finally getting his name. Din turned back to the glass pane of the cockpit and started the ship's engines. Izuku stared wide-eyed at the earth that was getting farther and farther away, awe filling his face. "Woah... this is so cool!"
Din made the preparations to jump into hyperspace "Hold tight... we're gonna go fast." Izuku did as he was told, clutching on his seatbelt, and watched in amazement as he watched the stars around them stretch, and whirl around them as they entered hyperspace, his small body slamming back against his seat.
Rumi stirred awake, trying to move her limbs, but struggled to even lift her arms. She opened her eyes slowly, her vision blurry. Once it cleared, she looked at her surroundings, seeing the man from earlier now talking to a child, and that infuriated her. She tried to shout but only a weak croak escaped her lips, He clenched her jaw. Her throat was burning, and needed hydration, badly.
Just as she was regaining strength in her body, she watched the man lead the child into the vehicle, her eyes widening in horror 'N-No...' She thought, trying to get back on her feet as fast as possible. Just as she stood up, she watched the spacecraft take off, disappearing into the night sky. Her eyes followed the ship hopelessly, and she stood there, standing at the clearing for a good few minutes, in shock at what had transpired.
The reality of the situation hit her hard, and she fell to her knees, punching the ground as hard as she good. She let her frustrations out on nature, punching and kicking everything in sight, furious at her incompetence. Tears welled in her eyes, which were wiped away instantly. She was starting to calm down, her earlier anger withering away to a state of disbelief, sitting down at the base of a tree. She let out at dry chuckle that held no mirth in it. "Some kinda hero I am..." She said to no one in particular...
She stayed like that for hours. She had let a villain not only get away, but also kidnap a child along with him. She hated it. She hated herself, how weak she really was.
Jesus that was bad
So... Mirko wasn't originally in the story...
personally I think she's a really cool character, and I always wanted to use her in this story, I just couldn't think of something (until now)
Yay for actual fucking scenes, and not whatever bullshit I had written down
Hope you liked the rewrite, and if you're new, im glad you didn't see the abomination that was the first chapter (not that the rest are any better -yet- but u get me)
PLEASE REVIEW IF U LIKE IT
