Syrus was walking down the street, towards Zane's home.

It had been a bit over a week since he and the others came back from the Duel Monster Spirit world, and both Jaden and Syrus still haven't returned.

Even after he told them that he didn't have much time left, Syrus refused to believe that his older brother was gone. He just couldn't. And Syrus would never give up on his older brother, or his best friend.

Syrus stopped walking and reached into his jacket pocket, where he kept the Underworld Deck, and pulled out said Deck. Before his duel with Yubel, Zane had separated the two decks and and used his Cyber Art Deck. After the duel, Zane had given the Underworld Deck to Syrus, knowing that his little brother would keep it safe and won't let it corrupt him.

As he stared at the deck, Syrus felt tears running down his face. "Zane, Jaden, please come back."

He then put the deck back into his pocket and looked up at the moon.

He remembered his mom telling him and Zane a story about a man that lived in the moon, who protects the hopes and wishes of children, when he was younger. Syrus loved the story so much. And whenever he was scared, Zane would remind him that the man in the moon was always looking out for him. It was one of the reasons why he loved wolves as well. That, and how free they can be.

Syrus was about to start walking again when he saw a light, similar to the moon's glow, appeared around him. "What's going on!?" Syrus said as the light got brighter and brighter. It got so bright that Syrus had to cover his eyes with his arm so he wouldn't go completely blind.

When it cleared a few minutes later, he uncovered his eyes.

"What was that?" Syrus wondered.

Syrus then saw his reflection in a story window. "Is that...me?" He said when he saw what the light did to him.

The ends of his hair now faded to orange and he had a black streak in his bangs. His ears transformed into wolf ears that matched his original hair color and had moved to the top of his head. His nose was now wolf-like, his teeth were now as sharp as a wolf's, and his pupils were now crescent moon shaped and were now midnight purple. His fingernails now resemble wolf claws. He looked behind him and saw that he had an orange wolf tail that faded to black that ripped out the seat of his pants.

"What happened to me?" He said as he reached up to touch the wolf ears that were on top of his head.

As he looked at his reflection, Syrus saw that there was something behind him.

He turned around and saw that there were three wolves made of black sand with glowing gold eyes. Growling at him.

"Nice wolves." He said, trying to calm the wolves down.

But it didn't work. One of the wolves jumped at him, but Syrus was able to jump out of the way and started running. The wolves were right behind him. Syrus then went down an alley, hoping to lose the wolves there. But it didn't work. What made matters worse was that the alley was a dead-end.

"Oh no!" Syrus said.

He turned around and saw the wolves heading towards him.

'What do I do? What do I do?' He thought as he looked for something to defend himself with. He then spotted a chain on the ground. Syrus then grabbed it as the wolves came closer. "Stay back!" He shouted at the wolves while holding the chain like a ninja manriki chain.

As the wolves got ready to attack, two soft orange glows appeared where Syrus was holding the chain in his hands, causing the wolves to back away a bit. The two glow then spread to the rest of the chain. When the glow faded the chain was now orange and black. It even looked like it could attach to his belt. "Did I do that?" Syrus asked himself. He stared at the chain in aw.

The wolves then started advancing towards him once again.

Which he noticed.

One leaped at Syrus and he jumped out of the way. But he dropped the chain. "Oh no!" He shouted.

The wolves then cornered Syrus again, leaving him no way to escape this time. "Stay back!" He shouted at the wolves, stretching his arm out. When he did, his eyes turned orange with black sclerae and his pupils turned neon green.

Just as one of the wolves was about to attack Syrus, the chain moved on its own and wrapped around it. A glow appeared around the Wolf. When it faded, the Wolf was no longer made of black sand and had glowing gold eyes. It was a living, breathing black wolf with black bat-like wings and red markings.

The chain let go of the Wolf and went into Syrus' hand.

"Woah." He said as his eyes turned back.

When the other two wolves saw what happened to the third, they ran away.

The third walf stayed behind, staring at Syrus.

Syrus looked at the chain and the transformed wolf. "Did I control the chain with my mind? And did I transformed the wolf through the chain?" He wondered before he noticed that the now winged wolf was now walking towards him.

Syrus was about to try and run away again when he saw that the wolf now looked friendly. "Are you a nice wolf now?" He asked the wolf.

Syrus then mentally laughed at himself for thinking a wolf could talk to him.

But then something unexpected happened.

"Thank you for freeing me from his control." The wolf said, surprising Syrus.

But before he could say anything, the wolf spread his wings and took to the air. "I hope to see you in the village soon!" He said as he flew off.

"Did that wolf just talk? And what did he mean by village?" He said as he left the alley, the two wends of the chain were now fastened to his belt. When Syrus left the alley, he noticed that there were people around. "Why didn't anyone come and help me?" He wondered out loud.

He then spotted a police officer. "Excuse me? Officer?" He said as he went towards the officer. But he looked like he didn't hear Syrus. "Officer?" Syrus said when he was a foot away from the officer. The officer then turned towards Syrus. But before Syrus could speak, the officer walked through him, leaving Syrus stunned.

'Did he...walk through me?' He thought, looking around.

Syrus then tried to get the attention of all the other people around him. But, just like with the police officer, no one saw or heard Syrus and walked through him. 'If no one could see, hear, or touch me, does that mean, I'm a ghost?!' He thought with fear.

He then started running towards his brother's house at a surprising speed. As soon as he got there, he went to the front door. But due to his new speed, Syrus had a hard time stopping. He thought he was going to crash into the door, but he went through it instead. "Ahhh!" He said as he tripped on the rug and landed one the floor. He then pushed himself up, rubbing his face despite not feeling any pain at all.

"I guess I really am a ghost." He said, tears on the edge of his eyes.

He then went up the stairs and into Zane's room. He then went to the bed where he lay down. 'Can my friends and family still see and hear me?' He wondered as he drifted off to sleep.

~Three Weeks Later~*Zane's POV*

I was walking down the street where Syrus was last seen. Jaden was by my side.

As soon as I heard that Syrus was reported missing, I wanted to help look for him. But everyone stopped me, telling me I should rest to regain my strength first so I wouldn't faint while looking for my brother. But I couldn't help but blame myself for disappearance.

'Stay strong, Sy. Wherever you are.' I thought as Jaden came to a stop.

"Jaden?" I said, worried for him.

"Do you... Do you think it's my fault he's missing?" Jaden asked me.

"What do you mean?" I asked him, shocked that Jaden was blaming himself for whatever happened to Syrus. "Maybe if I had been with him and the others when they returned, he wouldn't have left Duel Academy and he wouldn't have disappeared." He explained. I sighed before I spoke. "I doubt it's your fault, Jaden. If it's anyone's fault, it's mine. I mean, I sort of died right in front of him. And he probably still thinks I'm dead." I pointed out.

We then continued walking.

After about an hour of walking, we came to my house. 'Maybe there's a clue here. Alexis did say that Syrus was staying here.' I thought as I unlocked the front door and opened it.

Me and Jaden walked into the house.

"Let's look around for any clues to what happened to Syrus." I said as Jaden closed the door. It made a loud thud when he did.

We started in the living room.

As we searched, I spotted a familiar picture on the TV stand.

It was a picture of me and Syrus on Halloween when we were younger. We were both dressed as werewolves. But Syrus had one gray fake wolf ears and tail while I had brown. Of course, Syrus was always better at making hid costumes more authentic while I always had a hard time. Looking at the picture, I remembered how much time Syrus would put in his costumes(he would even lock himself in his room). 'Syrus was always better at making his costumes look more realistic than me.' I thought with a smile.

"Ja? Big bro?" I heard a familiar voice said from behind me.

As soon as I heard the voice, I turned around.

There, standing in the doorway, was Syrus. But he looked different. He had wolf ears that matched his hair, which now had orange ends and a black streak in his bands, and an orange wolf tail that faded to black. His pupils were crescent moon shaped and were midnight purple. He even had an orange and black chain fastened to his belt.

"Sy?" I said.

~A Few Minutes Ago~*Syrus' POV*

I woke up to the sound of a thud coming from downstairs.

'What was that?' I thought with fear.

I got out of bed and went to open the door. But my hand went through the door knob.

"Oh, right." I said as I remembered that I was now a ghost. 'But...how can I be a ghost if I never died?' I thought.

I then walked through the door. I then walked down the hall and down the stairs. As I reached the first floor, I heard someone in the living room. 'Who could it be?' I thought as I walked towards the living room. When I got to the doorway, I couldn't believe who was in there.

"Ja? Big bro?" I said, causing them to turn around. 'It is them! And they can hear me! But can they see me?' I thought, slightly worried if they couldn't see me. "Sy?" Zane said, making eye contact with me. Tears of joy were now rolling down my eyes. 'They can see me!' I thought before Jaden ran up to me. 'Wait, can they even touch me?!' I thought.

"Syrus!" Jaden said as he tried to hug me.

But he ended up going through me, barely stopping himself from falling down.

I didn't need to see his face to know how shocked Jaden is, because I can see it on Zane's face.

*Coo*

I heard on my left.

I turned around and saw Winged Kuribou floating beside me.

"I guess you can see Duel Monster spirits now, too." Zane said as he came to my side. "I guess so." I said as Jaden went to stand beside Winged Kuribou. "That's so cool, Sy!" He said with a smile. I tried to pet Winged Kuribou, but my hand just passed through him. "I even go through Duel Monster spirits." I said, more tears going down my eyes.

"Syrus, what happened to you?" Zane asked me.

"Yeah, what happened? And does it have something to do with you disappearing for three weeks?" Jaden asked me.

"Three weeks?!" I shouted in shock.

"Yeah. Why are you so shocked?" Jaden asked me.

There was confusion in both Jaden and Zane's eyes.

I was shaking a bit. "I was asleep for three weeks?" I said out loud, shocking both my best friend and my older brother. "What do you mean you've been asleep for three weeks?" Zane asked me as we went to the couch.

As we sat down, I explained everything that happened that night, from the glow that changed me to when I returned to the house. When I told them about the wolves, they freaked. "And then I fell into a dreamless sleep that lasted three weeks apparently." I finished explaining. "I don't know why I'm a ghost despite that I didn't die."

"Maybe whatever caused that glow that transformed you has something to do with you becoming a spirit." Zane hypothesized.

"Probably." I said, my wolf ear twitched a bit.

After a few minutes, Jaden had to leave. "I'll be sure to tell the others what you told us, Sy. Maybe we can find a way to reverse it!" He said.

"Thanks, Ja." I said, smiling for the first time since coming back from the Duel Monster Spirit world.

When Jaden left, Zane tried to place his hand on my shoulder, only for it to go through. "Don't worry, Sy. Even if this can't be reversed, I'll never look at you differently." He said, making me smile even more. "Thanks, big bro." I said.

That's the prologue for The New Guardian my Pooldancers!

I also want to explain why Zane and Jaden could hear and see Syrus.

With Zane, it's because he and Syrus are brothers.

But with Jaden, it's him having the ability to see Duel Monster spirits.

Also, after everything they've been through at Duel Academy, they decided that if stuff like Shadow Magic is real, who's to say other stuff they thought was fake could be real.
