Hailey Upton was left sobbing on the floor of their apartment when Jay had left for the airport. Her whole life had just been uprooted and she didn't know what to do. She sobbed so hard that she threw up all over herself and the floor.

Jay and swung by Wills on the way to the airport. Will could tell something was wrong the second he opened the door.

"Jay, what's wrong?" Will asked panicked.

"I have something I need to tell you. I came to say goodbye. I'm leaving for the next 8 months for Bolivia. On a military police mission," Jay explained.

"Wait what? What happened?" Will asked.

"A lot i can't get into it but I'm turning into Voight and I'm hurting Hailey by doing that. When I first joined his unit I promised myself I would never do that and straighten myself out if that ever happened. This is my last resort I can't straighten myself out and it's affecting my relationship" Jay replied.

"Oh my god. How's Hailey?" Will asked.

"She's a mess. Please be there for her. I am going to try my best to fix things while I'm away but I need help" Jay told him

Will agreed and the brothers hugged and said goodbye. After Will processed everything after Jay left, he tried to call Hailey.

Hailey was sitting in the living room sobbing when her phone rang. She saw it wasn't Jay and hit decline. Voight heard about Jay leaving and called Trudy. Trudy tried to call Hailey but she didn't answer. Trudy went to Hailey's place. She got there and knocked on the door but Hailey didn't answer. She put her ear up to the door and heard Hailey crying, so she used her key and walked into the apartment. When she walked into the apartment her heart broke. Hailey was sitting on the floor sobbing and was covered in puke.

"Hailey? It's Trudy" Trudy called.

Hailey turned around and started sobbing even harder.

"Oh, Hails" Trudy said as she sat down next to her and grabbed her hand. "Can I help you to the bathroom?" Trudy asked and Hailey nodded. They walked to the bathroom and Trudy sat Hailey down on the closed toilet. "Do you need help getting yourself cleaned up?" Trudy asked and Hailey shook her head. "Ok let me know if you need anything" Trudy replied.

Trudy went and got the floor cleaned up and Hailey quickly rinsed off in the shower and changed into sweatpants and one of Jay's sweatshirts. She walked into the kitchen and looked at Trudy and started to cry.

"Cmere kid: Trudy said as she pulled her into a hug.

"I miss him so much" Hailey cried.

"I know I'm so sorry" Trudy soothed,

They went over to the couch and Trudy held her and let her feel what she needed to feel.

Tirdu made her a sandwich a little while later and she barely ate. Trudy knew that Hailey loved horror movies so she put one on and wrapped her arm around her on the couch. When the movie ended she was starting to fall asleep.

"Do you want me to stay honey?" Trudy asked and Hailey nodded and hugged her.

They got in Hailey's bed and Trudy held her tight. Hailey didn't sleep much that night and Trusy could tell. Hailey convinced her she was fine to go to work. Halfway through the day, she crashed and started sobbing in the bathroom. Trudy calmed her down and wanted to take her home.

"Can I take you home honey? I can tell your not ok" Trudy said as she handed her some tissues.

"I don't want to go home" Hailey replied.

"Want to go to my place then? I can tell your exhausted" Trudy told her.

"Yeah," Hailey replied.

Trudy drove her to her apartment so she could pack a bag and took her to her place. When they got to Trudys, Trudy led her to the guest room. Hailey changed and crawled into bed. Trudy came in a few minutes later with some strawberries and water and sat on the bed next to Hailey. Hailey ate and laid down. She slept for a few hours as Trudy held her. She woke up around dinner time.

'I'm gonna make some pot pie. How about you go take a bath to help you relax a little" Trudy suggested.

Hailey took a nice hot bath while Trudy made some pot pie for dinner which was one of Hailey's favorites. Hailey came out of the bath 30 minutes later and sat down at the table. They ate soon after. After dinner, they watched a movie, Hailey fell asleep on the couch during the movie, Mouch carried her to the guest room and Trudy got in bed with her because she knew she didn't want to be alone. The next morning Hailey got up and went to work. She was quiet the whole day and didn't eat much for lunch. Adam invited her to Mollys.

"Hey, Hailey Maks sitter can stay late tonight. Do you want to go to Mollys with us?" Adam asked.

"Maybe next time thank you though" Hailey replied.

Hailey went to her car and released the tears she had been holding back all day. Voight was walking out to his car and saw her. He knocked on her window which caused her to jump. She rolled down her window when she saw him.

"I'm sorry kid I didn't mean to scare you are you ok?" Voight asked.

Hailey shook her head. "I miss him so much" she replied.

"I know I'm sorry. We're all here for you" Voight told her.

They talked until she calmed down and then she drove back to Trudy's house.

She stayed at Trudy's for a couple more days before wanting to go back home. She spent most of the night crying. She barely slept and picked up 2 energy drinks at a gas station on her way to work. They caught a case that morning. When Voight sent them home, she didn't want to go home. Shwe went to Platt and requested overtime. She approved it but decided to keep a closer eye on Hailey. She got pit on patrol and drank the second energy drink she got. This process continued for the next few days. Platt pulled her aside on day 6.

"I can't keep approving so much overtime for you. I know what you're doing, you need to take care of yourself, Hails. I don't want you to get hurt" Trudy told her.

"I promise that's not what it is. I just need the extra money" Hailey replied.

"That's ok but I can't approve multiple nights in a row of night time over time pretty much all night when you already clocked in at 7 am," Trudy told her.

Trudy hugged her and she left. Hailey didn't want to go home, so she found a 24-hour Starbucks. She got some coffee and spent a few hours in the Starbucks on her laptop. She slept in her car for the rest of the night.

It had been a little over 2 weeks since Jay left. Hailey was not doing good mentally at all. She missed Jay. She went from seeing him all day every day to texting him a few times a day. Jay had not been able to talk much because he had a massive caseload. That night, he was able to get off early so he called her for the first time since he got to Bolivia.

J Hey Hails it's so great to hear your voice. I miss you so much. I love you

H I miss you so much. I can't wait until I get to see you again.

J we are going to get through this babe. And I promise you I am going to make it up to you when I get home.

They talked for 2 hours before Jay had to go. As soon as the call ended she drove home and was able to sleep in her apartment on her own for the first time since Jay left.

Hailey spent the weekend hanging out with the team. Jay got busy again and wasn't able to talk much which affected Hailey's mental health. She was quiet and only talked when she needed to. She was barely sleeping. Most nights she spent sitting on the couch watching TV or reading. Some nights, she slept in her car in the parking lot. She couldn't sleep in her bed and some nights couldn't bring herself to try to sleep in the apartment so she would go down to her car and sleep there. She also started eating less and lost weight because of it and wore baggy clothes to cover it. Most days she needed 1 to 2 energy drinks to make it through the day. The unit knew she was struggling but didn't realize how bad it was. They saw her drinking at least 1 energy drink per day, but what they didn't know was, she was barely sleeping or eating. She stopped wanting to be at home so she requested overtime again. Since it had been two weeks since she last asked Trudy approved it. A few days later, Trudy invited her over for dinner. Hailey wore one of Jay's baggier sweatshirts and some baggy sweatpants. She was helping Trudy prepare dinner and Hailey reached up to get something and her sweatshirt came up. Trudy was able to see her ribs and realized just how skinny she had gotten. They ate and Hailey only ate a very small amount.

"Hey kiddo I don't mean to intrude but when you went to grab something from the cabinet your sweatshirt came up and I was able to see your ribs. I also noticed you barely ate at dinner. Whatever is going on I'm here for you. Your not alone" Trudy told her.

"I know I just havent really had an appetite since Jay left. I'm trying to work on it but it's hard. We're barely able to talk with his schedule" Hailey replied.

"I'm so sorry honey" Trudy replied as she hugged her.

A couple minutes later Hailey made some popcorn and got some crackers. She ended up spending a few nights there and was somewhat able to catch up on sleep. She continued to miss Jay every day and couldn't wait for him to be home in just under 7 months.
