Chapter 1

Many years later…

The angry, frustrated stomps, coupled with the grumbling were unmistakable in the Eastern-Western Estate…

Everyone from the staff to the nobles residing in said estate, knew just who those footsteps belonged to… and not a soul was brave enough to try and stand in their way- unless you were the Lord of the manor, that was.

Face contorted in a snarl, cerulean blue eyes filled with rage, Kagome stalked down the hallways, all of the staff scurrying out of the way when they saw her state. Normally, she was the one they wished to speak to, after all, their Lord was not always the most approachable man.

His Lady was far more suited to being social, and was, if they were all being honest, very pleasant to be around…

Unless you pissed her off.

All of the staff could see just where Kagome had come from, and then- it all clicked into place. The only one (okay maybe two, no wait, three- definitely three) that could possibly make the Lady this mad was the Lord himself.

It was unvoiced, yet unanimously decided that they would all make themselves scarce for the rest of the day…

Kagome continued to grumble, oh so very irritated with her new, oh-so-fantastic situation until she ran smack dab into someone; one of the few people who didn't scurry away from the young woman's wrath.

Their forehead's clashed together painfully, the miko letting out a wince and rubbing the spot. She opened her eyes to look at the offender, "Oh, hey, Chika."

Yasuchika rubbed his forehead and gave her a glare, "Can't you watch where you're going?"

"Don't you talk to me like that, brat!"

The brown-haired boy recoiled backwards, "Sorry…" Kagome huffed, crossing her arms under her chest, and grumbling something unintelligible under her breath. It was obvious to Chika then that Kagome was angry

And everyone knew better than to mess with the Shikon Miko when angry…

Her temper was legendary, and when mad, she could even get the infamously uncooperative Inuyasha to listen to her. Chika narrowed his eyes, frowning a bit, what had set her off this time? "What happened?"

"Those idiotic men, one who you call father, just told me I have to go to Ouran! Ouran!" Kagome threw her hands up in the air, cerulean blue eyes ablaze with rage. She paced down the hallway, ranting as she went, "I can't believe this! What the hell is wrong with them?! Do I look like-"

Yasuchika watched her pace back and forth, blinking a couple of times… Wait… She was getting sent to Ouran? "You're… going to high school?"

"YES!" Kagome whipped around, glaring at the younger boy. "Weren't you listening?! They're sending me to Ouran! I'm gonna be a first-year student!"

"But… Didn't you not finish high school?"

"That's why I don't wanna go! And they're putting me in 1-A! Do you know how much homework I'm gonna have?! Oh, the horror~!" Dainty, pale hands grabbed her head, and Kagome tried to hold the tears back. "I can already feel a math induced headache coming!"

Chika sweatdropped- why did he even ask? Kagome gripped the slightly taller, yet younger boy by the shoulders, a desperate look on her face, "What am I gonna do, Yasuchika?! I'm gonna die! And I won't even get to see you grow up!"

"Will you stop being over-dramatic?!" Yasuchika pulled the woman's hands off him by the wrists, sighing deeply. "You're gonna be fine."

"I won't! I'm gonna die before-" she paused mid-rant, giving him an appalled look. "Did you just call me over-dramatic?! I'm no such thing!"

A very familiar blank look appeared on Chika's face, "You are."

Tears welled up in cerulean blue eyes, "Why are you so mean to me, Chika-chan? When have I ever been mean to you?"

A look of pure panic immediately appeared on Yasuchika's face, "Uh, wait, p-please don't cry. Oh shit-" But it was too late, Kagome was crying… And Chika panicked. And whenever he panicked, he did the only thing he could…

"OTOU-SAN!"

Yasuchika calls his father…

Kagome felt her eye twitch as she stood outside a pink school, which honestly looked more like a castle, wearing the hideous yellow thing classified as the female school uniform of Ouran Academy. And despite her hatred for it, Kagome still managed to look good in it…

Or at least, that's what Takashi kept telling her…

The blue eyed miko glared up at the tall male, "Do I have to do this?"

"Yes." his one-word response didn't have the slightest bit of hesitation in it, making Kagome groan loudly… There was no getting out of this, was there? The corners of Takashi's mouth lifted in a small smile, and he leaned down to kiss her on top of the head, "You'll be fine."

She twitched again, "Fine. I'll go, but it doesn't mean I'll like it." His smile grew a bit, and Kagome crouched down, opening her arms wide. "Now come here, Mitsukuni! If I've gotta do this, I at least want a hug!"

The honey blond giggles happily, running up to her and hugging Kagome around the neck tightly. He buried his face into the crook of her neck, greedily breathing in her soothing scent. Kagome sighed in contempt, snuggling closer to the boy…

This… this was definitely the hardest part…

Kagome pulled away, her hands on Mitsukuni's shoulders, "Now, you be good for your father, alright?"

He nodded happily, "I will!"

That made the miko smile. She kissed Mitsukuni on the forehead, then stood in a single fluid motion. Takashi held her brown satchel bag out to her, a match of his own, "Do you know where you're going?"

Kagome rolled her eyes as she took her school bag from him, "Hai, hai, I know where I'm going, Anata. You don't need to worry… Besides, even if I do get lost, we've got lots of time before classes start. Nobody's even here yet."

He gave her an unimpressed, slightly blank look, and Kagome rolled her eyes once more, before patting his chest and sauntering off to find her classroom.

Hikaru and Kaoru Hitachiin were famous at Ouran.

There were no first years who had more of a fan-club then them. Their second year senpai, Tamaki Suoh, had amassed an even greater fan-club than the red-headed twins, but the Hitachiin brothers were no slouches.

Girls founded over them, over their twincest act, and people would whisper about them as they traveled down the hallways of the school. They were first years, yes, but Hikaru and Kaoru Hitachiin were already known within the halls of Ouran Academy High School…

And they were fully aware of all the beautiful rich girls who loved them… After all, there wasn't a single woman in Ouran's High School that hadn't visited the Host Club at least once… And their boss always remembered the most beautiful princesses…

Which is why, when the devil twins of the Host Club entered their first-year classroom, they stopped dead in their tracks…

Sitting in a desk right by the window, near the back of the class, was the most beautiful girl they had ever seen…

Long, lower-back length, wavy midnight blue-ish black hair, and giant cerulean blue eyes, framed by long, thick black lashes. Pale unblemished skin, rosy cheeks, and soft pink lips…

How had they never seen her before? Was she a new student? That must be it… Kaoru glanced at the seating chart on the blackboard and grinned to himself, his seat was right behind hers! Hikaru, having the same thought process as his brother, glanced at the seating chart… and instantly deflated upon seeing his seat.

Sitting to the right of his brother, and behind some brown-haired boy with thick glasses and no uniform… What a bummer…

The two twins trudged their way to their seats, each taking the path that passed the beautiful mystery girl, who didn't even bother looking up at them. Hikaru and Kaoru exchanged a quick glance, and almost by magic, they both stopped right at her desk.

"Hey," Kaoru greeted, leaning his hands on the girl's desk. "You're new, right?"

A small frown pulled at her brow, and cerulean blue eyes shifted to look up at them… and immediately blinked at seeing two people who looked almost identical to one another. "Uh… yeah, my Onii-sama transferred me here."

"Ooh, a transfer student, huh?" Hikaru leaned on the desk as well, then started snickering. "You're in for a treat then!"

Kaoru smiled gently, "I'm Kaoru."

"And I'm Hikaru."

"What's your name, Princess?"

They spoke the last sentence perfectly in sync, and blue eyes narrowed… but not for the slightly creepy talking in sync part. She didn't care about that. "Don't call me Princess."

"Aww, come on," Hikaru leaned in closer to her face, not being able to help the smirk that appeared. Lord, she sure was stunning… "Don't you like it~"

One of her eyes twitched, before she put a hand on Hikaru's cheek and shoved him away without remorse. "Ever heard of personal space?!"

The older of the twins blinked in surprise… But then, he started to smirk, leaning right back down into the beautiful girl's personal bubble. "If you don't tell us your name, beautiful, we'll just have to call you Princess~"

Her eyes narrowed, and with a small huff, she replied, "Kagome Taisho."

Kagome Taisho…

Seemingly satisfied, the twins sauntered off to their seats… One of them right behind Kagome's own. The miko twitched, this year wasn't going to be easy, was it?

That unremarkable brown-haired boy not in uniform that sat in front of Hikaru? Yeah, apparently that was the honors student that was coming to Ouran on a scholarship…

Kagome glanced over at the boy as everyone filed out of the classroom for lunch, including the two 'devil twins' as the miko had taken to calling them in her mind. They weren't that bad, in fact, they almost reminded her of Shippo…

Once they were outside of the classroom, Kagome breathed a sigh of relief and slumped back in her chair, "Oh thank kami they're gone…" she looked back over to the brown-haired boy, who… judging by their aura… wasn't a boy at all… "Aren't you going to lunch?"

The brown-haired boy jumped, looking over at Kagome, then around the room. He didn't spot a soul… W-was she talking to him? He pointed at himself, "M-me?"

"Yeah, you, who the hell else am I talking to?"

"Sorry…" he rubbed the back of his neck. "I just figured you'd be talking to your friends or something."

Kagome snorted, leaning her elbows on her desk, "Nope! This is my first year here, and believe me, if it wasn't for my older brother forcing me to come here- I wouldn't be." She rested her jaw in her palm, looking at the boy. "So, now you know my story. What's yours, honor student?"

"Uh, well, that's pretty much it… I was able to pass the entrance exam and achieve the honors scholarship…"

"What's your name?"

The boy looked at her surprised, "My name?"

"Yeah well, if I'm gonna sit next to you for the rest of this hellish year, I might as well know your name."

"Oh, it's Haruhi. Haruhi Fujioka."

"Kagome Taisho… Wanna sneak out to the gardens to eat lunch?"

Haruhi blinked once, then twice, before smiling, "Okay."

To say Haruhi was shocked that a rich kid brought a bento box to school was an understatement. When Kagome led them to a little secluded patch of grass under a tree that she had found by staring out the window instead of listening to the lecture, the last thing Haruhi thought he'd see was Kagome pulling a pink bento box out of her bag.

The miko saw his shocked face and raised an eyebrow, "What?"

Haruhi blinked, shaking his head, before sitting next to her, "I never thought I'd see one of you rick people with a bento. I thought all of you were just rich bastards."

"R-rich bastards?!" Kagame burst out laughing, falling back into the grass as she held her stomach. "O-oh that's hilarious!"

The honor student rolled his eyes, "Yeah, laugh it up."

Kagome sat up a bit, a few blades of grass stuck in her hair, "I will admit, I've met plenty of rich bastards in my day, but assholes come in all classes. Not all rich people are bad." A few immediately came to her mind, and she opened her bento, holding her chopsticks in her hands as she bowed politely. "Itadakimasu."

The miko reached for a bit of rice, nudging Haruhi in the side with her elbow, "Besides, I'm not that bad right?"

"We just met." Haruhi deadpanned.

"Oh be a buzzkill, why don't you?"

"I'm being realistic, there's a difference."

Honestly, Haruhi couldn't decide if he liked Kagome or not… She was loud, cussed constantly, did not take her studies seriously, slept in whatever class she could or whenever she wasn't sleeping, was gazing out the window without a care…

Haruhi wouldn't call Kagome a rich bastard necessarily, for one weird quality she had was being down to earth. The beautiful girl was humble, couldn't take a compliment without blushing, and loved the peaceful silence of nature- evident by her desire to eat lunch outside every day.

But her carefree attitude towards school constantly reminded Haruhi that Kagome was rich…

Haruhi knew she was lucky to be at Ouran, but Kagome acted like it was just some sort of torture- not the best school in the country. She didn't care… A few other kids in Class 1-A didn't care, but the majority did…

And even still, those few who didn't care didn't bother Haruhi at all…

So why did Kagome's carefree attitude irk him so much?

Was it because she was a walking contradiction? Or maybe-

"Haruhi? You good? You spaced out?" Kagome's airy, bell-like voice broke Haruhi from his thoughts. They were sitting under the same tree, eating lunch together like they had done every other day this week…

The honor student brushed off her concern, "Yeah, I-I'm fine…" He looked down at his own bento box, pursuing his lips, before looking back at the beautiful girl. "Kagome? Can I ask you something?"

"Sure." Kagome took a bite of her mochi. "Whoot."

Right, that was another thing… She wasn't always the most proper… Haruhi gripped his wooden chopsticks tighter, "Why are you so carefree about school? I'm lucky to be here, yet you… You… I-it's like you just don't care about it at all."

Kagome blinked, but then she started to smile… "It's not that I don't care… It's more like I just don't see the point. I wasn't sent to Ouran of my own free-will, y'know? My Onii-sama made me come here… So, I might as well enjoy myself while I'm here!

"And listening to Yamato-senesi prattle on about math-stuff is not my idea of fun!" The miko stuck her tongue out childishly, her nose scrunching up in distaste.

If there was one thing Kagome hated in this world… It was math.

Haruhi looked at her in disbelief… "Y-you're here to have fun?"

"Mhm…" Kagome nodded, turning her gaze up to the sky, watching as a cloud drifted overhead. "Y'know, I said when I came here, I wouldn't like it, and I'm still not sure I do. But I might as well enjoy my time here, just a little bit at least. So, if I have to be here, in this miserable school that I can't stand, I might as well have some fun…"

She turned to Haruhi with a beaming smile, "Don't you agree, Haruhi?"

Haruhi wasn't sure he did…

No one understood why Kagome, the most beautiful girl in the entire school, was friends with the bland, unremarkable commoner honor student. But half the time, they didn't even notice Haruhi because of Kagome's radiance.

Haruhi sweatdropped as he watched two male students whisper and point at Kagome with visible blushes on their faces as the beautiful girl dragged him to the cafeteria for something. "Do I have to go with you?"

"Yes! If I don't drag you with me, you'll spend the whole break studying! You need to take a fucking break sometimes, Haruhi!" Kagome ranted as she pulled Haruhi behind her with a surprising amount of strength. "Besides, I want cake!"

The honor student deadpanned, "You and your sweets."

"Oh shut it!" she tugged Haruhi behind her, the miko's grip on the brown-haired student's sweater never wavering as Kagome pulled him into the cafeteria and into the line. Cerulean blue eyes scanned the menu, only to brighten when they landed on her goal. She beamed at the worker, "Two slices of strawberry cake please! Oh, oh, and a slice of chocolate!" Kagome looked over at her friend, "You want anything, Haruhi?"

"Uh…" the honor student couldn't even see the prices on the menu hanging on the wall, which only meant one thing. "I don't think I can afford it."

The miko turned to him with a strange look, "I'm paying."

"W-what?!" Haruhi immediately started backtracking. "I-I can't let you do that!"

"Why not? We're friends, right? Call it a thank you for putting up with me."

Friends… When was the last time Haruhi had a friend, an honest to goodness friend who he could talk to without hesitation, without worry? Someone who he actually liked to be around? To hang out with?

Haruhi then started to smile, a wide one that almost made his cheeks hurt, and a small blush appeared. "Yeah, you are a bit of a pain."

"What?! Did you just call me a pain?!" Kagome huffed, letting go of his sweater sleeve and crossing her arms under her bust- turning away from him with a pout, making him laugh. "Pick out your damn food already."

Haruhi wasn't sure he'd ever understand Kagome… But he did know one thing for sure…

Kagome was pretty nice to be around…
