This is just me putting my first and only AO3 exclusive story here! Hope you guys like it

It was just some normal training with friends Ruby thought. Team RWBY and JNPR were just fighting Grimm. Ruby thought it was a good idea since it would get some training in and it would help with the 2 sister teams bonding and get the members closer to each other but Ruby hoped they were gonna grow closer to her in particular. She had noticed that her and her sister team weren't that found of her and it had bothered her a lot. She just didn't get it. Yeah she was admitted 2 years earlier and was already a star student but that shouldn't have made the others dislike her. Right? But even if they did she could try to work with them! Help them train and be a responsible team leader and friend. However being responsible wouldn't help Ruby as she noticed far too late that the small number of Grimm around them had grown pretty big

The Grimm just seemed to start to pour out of the forest. It had become really apparent to the teams this wasn't just a normal Grimm hotspot. It was more like a ticking time bomb filled with Grimm that they set of and with it being set of it changed the whole training. From going to some friendly training to team RWBY and JNPR fighting for their lives. Ruby was fighting valiantly along with the other students and naturally fighting gave Ruby time to think. They would just blame her for all the Grimm suddenly attacking and hurting them. She would get the blame for Grimm doing their best to take of their heads. However the others seemed to have another plan to get rid of the Grimm and one of their other problems

"We've nearly finished the most of them!" Ruby yelled as she quickly turned around to shoot a beowolf that got a bit to close. The recoil from the unsteady blast did knock her a bit back but she quickly got back up and kept swinging at the creatures trying to get her and with each swing another creature fell

It didn't take long for Ruby to quickly come to a halt as heard the others had stopped and the sound of the Grimm around them had less her a lot. Ruby was pretty confused but quickly confusion turned to happiness as they made it out with little to no damage to them. Ruby was gonna try to grab her scroll but stopped when she heard more growling and running coming at them from a deeper part of the forest. Ruby had an idea to say something to lift everyone's spirits, something to remove their doubt and resentment a little and give them a little faith in their teamwork and in her. Instead when she wanted to speak Ruby felt something sharp against her left elbow

Then she didn't feel the sharp object

Then she didn't feel her arm

She slowly turned to look at her left arm and began to hyperventilate as caught a glimpse of her arm falling to the ground and saw in full view the stump that was her arm now and heard Pyrrha's scream of horror

"I-It's gone" Ruby couldn't manage to say more. It got hard to breathe. It got hard to stand up. She didn't know how or why but her arm was cut of from her elbow down. The Grimm couldn't be that close already right? She hadn't noticed the satisfied look Weiss had as she shook some blood of her rapier. Ruby fell to her knees as she was quickly losing blood and her consciousness

"We gotta go NOW!" Jaune yelled as the Grimm roared again, now much closer and far more than before. They seem to quicken their movement towards the teams at the sudden spike of Ruby's agony. It was they either fight or they run and with running they had a better chance of surviving

Ruby was trying her hardest to stop the bleeding while Pyrrha was frantically looking through her bag for anything to help her friend before suddenly she was janked by the collar. When she turned to who had janked her and saw Nora standing over her. "We gotta go Pyrrha! Just leave her!"

The words sounded so cold to Pyrrha and Ruby. Well everything felt cold to Ruby. She had fallen to the ground. Laying on her uninjured arm as she saw Pyrrha still crying as she came to the realization that even if she tried to save Ruby the Grimm would still follow her. It destroyed her that they were right that they had to leave her but it also destroyed her that the people she saw as teammates would do this. It was so out of character for them to plan what was basically a murder. But one thing kept ringing in Pyrrha and Ruby's heads and as they both opened their mouth in unison they spoke 1 word, Ruby just a barely audible whisper while Pyrra a rage and sadness fuelled yell. "Why?"

In that moment everyone's faces changed. None except Yang felt a bit guilty but the mixture of seeing Pyrra so distraught and mad and the whimpering of the dying Ruby. They just couldn't not be a bit saddened but they all had to go. Slowly they began to run, first Jaune then Blake and Ren until only Pyrra was next to Ruby. Pyrrha leaned forward and planted a kiss on Ruby's now significantly colder cheek before running away too right as the Grimm broke through the tree line

Ruby's vision started to fade as she felt the pain slowly recede to the back of her mind while everything else began to feel cold. She was actually gonna die there. She wanted to keep her mind active and not have it suddenly stop but nothing came up and as she heard and saw the crushed Pyrrha leave with her teammates she couldn't help but let out a few tears too. Tears that were strangely burned away by purple flames. The herald of her last breath were purple flames

But as the young huntress died the purple flames showed to be far more than just a herald of death. It showed to be a tall and strangely humanoid Grimm. The Grimm stared down into her lifeless silver eyes. It seemingly stared into her eyes for a eternity before closing her eyelids and grabbing the huntress to lift her up and begin to carry her bridal style. The Grimm also made sure to not forget her weapon but instead of carrying it with Ruby it kept the scythe with it. As it walked through the horde of Grimm the other creatures around it all disbursed to make way for the humanoid and Ruby. Most Grimm didn't even dare get close and the ones who did tried to take w piece of Ruby and got shown why the purple flames were so dangerous. Strangely tho the flames didn't hurt the corpse of the huntress it held in it's hands
