The sun filters through my blinds, which doesn't make much sense considering I'm supposed to have blackout curtains covering them, but whatever. Someone must have pulled them back at someone point last night and I never noticed. I sit up and rub my eyes, immediately wishing that I hadn't woken up. It's not for any reason in particular, but just out of principle. Well, no, I'm lying a bit. It's Monday, right? So between the several missing assignments that were due yesterday at midnight, and the fact that I only have until the end of the week to make up everything else due to break starting soon, I have all 13 reasons lined right the fuck up. Eventually I drag my lazy ass to the side of my bed and pick up my scroll to see that Lukas sent me a message. It takes me more tired than I'd like to type in my password, but I get there eventually. Embarrassing start, truly.
Text Conversation
Lukas: "Yo, you up yet?"
Me: "Yeah, what's up?"
Lukas: "Bro the weekend was way too short, or i have a messed up perception of time. I'm not ready for the test today."
Me: "We're sparring in Goodwitch's. There's no test dumbass."
Me: "Wanna meet up for breakfast or something?"
Lukas: "I guess. Where?"
Me: "Fym where?"
Lukas: "WHAT ELSE COULD I MEAN?!"
Me: "WHERE ELSE CAN WE GET BREAKFAST IN THIS SCHOOL? THE FUCKING DUMPSTER?"
Lukas: "I DONT KNOW MAN!"
Me: "I'll see you in the cafeteria in ten."
End of Text Conversation
You see, he might have texted me something else, but for my own sake I didn't look. No, I just turned off my scroll and set it face down on the table. After putting my curtains back up, I proceed with my morning routine of getting dressed, brushing my teeth, all that good stuff. Can't look like the mess that some people think that I am. With everything on, I then leave my room to begin the day. First off, the sun's still too damn bright. There is no reason that damned thing should be that bright this early.
As I walk all the way to the other side of campus to reach the cafeteria, it's not the worst thing ever. A cloud blocks the sun somewhere along the way, and a small smile adorns my face due to this. I don't pass anyone that I know along the way save for Cardin, and I don't say a word. That guy's a massive prick, so it takes considerable effort to not throw a fireball at him when his back is turned to me, honestly. Just about the second I enter the cafeteria however, I see Weiss storming towards my direction, more so for the door than me. However, once she sees me, she turns with a bright red face and starts half shouting at me, "You! Tell Lukas that he isn't going to disrespect me like that and get away with it! Does he even know who I am!?"
Before I could even open my mouth to respond she left the room, and slammed the door behind her. We're starting early this morning, aren't we? Fuck my life. I sigh and sit down across from Lukas, before immediately cutting to the chase, "What did you do?"
He seems a bit confused for a moment, and then gets this dumb grin on his face. I oughta slap it right off of his face, for both this and the dumbass comment from our text conversation, but considering he'd try to pimp slap the taste out of my mouth in return, it's best to just leave it be.
"You mean to Weiss? Just put her in her place. She was being a snarky bitch, and I told her to shut up."
Alright, maybe I'm not gonna leave it be. No, no, composure, keep it together…
I take a deep breath, and for obvious reasons I don't fully believe him. "Yeah, well she's pissed, big time. Are you sure that's all you did?" I ask in a more inquisitive tone, leaning a bit forward on the table.
Lukas snickers and responds quickly, "Ok, ok, fine. I may have said that she'd be nothing without daddy's money, and that I don't have to bow down to her."
After sighing again I continue, "Well, at least you didn't actually hurt her or something. Guess it could've been worse… Whatever, I need caffeine. I'll be right back."
I stand up to grab a coffee, and run into Ruby Rose, the leader of Team RWBY. She's a very bubbly girl my age, due to our birthdays both being last month. The girl always tries to see the best in people, a skill that I won't deny that I lack. "Hey, Doge! What's up?" Ruby asks while walking over.
"Just grabbing some coffee to keep myself awake. What about you?"
"I wanted to grab a bagel! Or was it toast…?"
She looks at me like I would know what she was going to grab, but I don't. Instead, I just shrug while grabbing my coffee. I add a bit of milk and sugar, before stirring it around a couple times. I raise the mug to my lips as she continues in a less energetic manner, "Oh, actually, can we talk for a second?"
I nod, and take a sip of my coffee. It's piping hot, and my tongue gets burnt, causing me to wince. Ruby can't help but giggle as she sees me act all over dramatic over the slight injury before getting serious once more. "So…uhh…you know how Lukas and Weiss don't really get along?" she asks.
I nod again. They've been at each other's throats for ages, and no one really knows why. There's a few theories amongst the group, but neither of them will fess up as to why they always argue like a married couple. My vote's on something to do with their opposing social classes. Boring, I know, but it's the most logical.
"Well, they need to at the very least learn to tolerate each other. I think it would be beneficial for all of us if they could stop fighting." She smiles a little as she finishes speaking, and waits for me to respond, her silver eyes gleaming.
Now, I wholeheartedly agree, but Weiss and Lukas are both hard headed people, so it's not going to be easy. It's going to be akin to throwing a stick at a brick wall and expecting the wall to collapse. "I'll talk to Lukas. Can't promise it'll go anywhere, but I'll try." I say before taking another sip. This one isn't nearly as hot, due to this funny thing called patience. Crazy, I know.
Ruby seems ok enough with this answer and walks off to presumably find Weiss. That, or to go five steps forward, remember she forgot breakfast, and then come trotting back. "Almost forgot my biscuit!" she says after walking five steps forward, remembering that she's empty handed, and trotting back.
Heading back to the table I see Yang flirting with Levi, who apparently showed up at some point or another, and I almost feel bad for him. Almost. Dipshit's had it coming for a while now. Levi has a tendency to say the dumbest shit imaginable, so this is a kind of retribution of sorts.
"…then again, would you be opposed to that?" whispers Yang, with me only being able to make out the last half of her sentence. Yang then puts a hand on Levi's cheek, a soft blush covering her face.
"W-wait, are you not joking? I thought we were just joke flirting…" Levi stammers, blood rushing to his face and his crimson eyes darting around the room. Yang continues to look at him as if he's a piece of lunch meat.
Oh that poor bastard. Now I actually feel bad. Yang goes to speak, but I bail him out by loudly speaking to Lukas, "Hey, Lukas, I need to talk with you about something. Oh, hey Yang, Levi! Uh, am I interrupting something?"
Yang looks like she's going to say something to Levi again, but Lukas speaks first, "Nope! Not at all! What did you need?"
I hide a smile with my cup and sit down. Once composed I speak, "Well, I'm not going to draw this out. Be nicer to Weiss. For everyone's sake."
Lukas almost looks offended. He probably is, actually. It's the same expression a child would give you if you told them that they had homework over the weekend. Or ripped a beer from the paws of an alcoholic. Either or, truly.
"…I'll try."
I hope he's not lying, otherwise I'm burning his coffee next Monday. Levi gets up and walks away, presumably to grab some food or escape Yang. Probably both, honestly. We turn to see Ruby walking over with what one can only assume is a hopeful smile. "Guess what, Doge?" she asks.
"What?" I ask between sips.
"Weiss agreed to try and stop fighting with Lukas! I think…" Ruby trails off.
With a small smirk I respond, "Lukas sorta did too. So hopefully they can put their differences aside. Maybe even date or something. That would be funny."
Lukas gives me a death glare, indicating that is absolutely fucking not happening. Shame. They'd be kind of cute together, Moving on, breakfast goes by without much incident for a few more minutes. Yang tries to feel up Levi, Levi is slightly uncomfortable, Ruby and I laugh at them. The usual, honestly.
Eventually the other members of our teams join us, Weiss, Blake, Jade, and the ginger, sorry, Levi comes back with his food. Everyone seemed to be doing alright, minus a certain white haired and blue eyed someone. Said someone pipes up in her signature snarky and high pitched voice, "So, minus Electric Eel over there, how's everyone doing?"
Blake, Ruby, and I shoot Weiss glares. Why she felt the need to say something and start more drama, I'll never know. Jade seems to wonder how an eel is in the cafeteria, but she notices Weiss looking at Lukas.
Jade breaks the silence that's befallen the table, "What?"
She's promptly ignored as glares are being passed out like candy between everyone.
"Why is she looking at Lukas?"
Lukas eventually scoffs, "Oh hardy har har. Very creative."
Well, he hasn't blown up on her yet. Maybe we have a chance at this being ok for once? An awkward silence once again fills the table, but suddenly Levi breaks the silence, "So umm… Team RWBY… How have y'all been?"
I sigh. This is what I'm working with…
"D-Doge, listen. I'm grasping at straws here. My brain ain't braining." Levi says, pulling at his collar.
I sigh louder. This truly is what I'm working with…
Looking over to see what Jade's doing, she's just staring off into space, and loudly eating a carrot. I turn back to the group to see Blake looking at me with those pretty amber eyes of hers. She then turns away, and I notice her bow slightly twitch. Smiling a bit, I take a sip of my coffee. Realizing that no one else is going to do it, I speak up, attempting to revive the conversation, "So… has anyone listened to any good music recently? And no, Levi cannot answer that question."
That gets a couple chuckles and/or giggles. Levi goes to object, but he knows damn well why I said that.
Lukas speaks up, "Yeah, actually. I've been listening to Poor Man's Poison a bit. The way some of their songs call out soulless corporations is just lovely."
Lukas and Weiss exchange glares again. They need to get a room and figure this situation out, because I swear to the gods I am not putting up with it. Not to mention that now the tension's fucking palpable, so I try to keep it from getting any worse, "I've been listening to some Orden Ogan. Inferno's been one of my favorites recently."
Blake snickers a bit and speaks up, "Oh, so the song about fire is your favorite? Shocker."
I roll my eyes with a smile. "Oh shush." I say while lightly pushing her. She swats my hand away before leaning back.
Ruby decides to chime in, "Ooh, I've been listening to some Casey Lee Williams. I love her music!"
Everyone nods in agreement. It's a really solid choice in music. No one can deny that. Now, due to the situation being defused breakfast actually goes by somewhat smoothly. Weiss speaks about how she enjoys classical music, Levi likes a band called AJR, Yang gives a general list of pop and/or rock bands, and Jade enthusiastically talks about her love of what she calls aggressive classical. Sounds neat. Blake doesn't give any insight, because why would she? That would be too easy. I feel like she might listen to something like Set it Off, or maybe even My Dust Romance, but that's a mostly baseless assumption.
Eventually breakfast wraps up, and everyone heads to their first classes, or to do some last minute training. Personally, I go right to class, plop into my seat, and start reading a book. Honestly, this is a tame start to the morning compared to some days.
Well, that's Chapter One. So, if this is your first time around, minor note: Ch 1, 2, and 3 were recently rewritten. Fun, I know.
Anyways, even with the rewrite, you can definitely tell that it's my first chapter. Eh, coulda been worse, coulda been better. Still, any improvement is good, and I could certainly see the difference between this chapter and the more recent ones.
Hopefully this is a much better first impression than previously. Anyways, thanks for reading!
