Okay, before you read this, let me try to explain something. I'll be vague, so I don't spoil anything, but I'll go into more detail at the end of this chapter so you will have already read everything.

Hyrule has been around for a long time, even if their technology doesn't show it. This could be because they keep having bad stuff happen to them, which is the games, and technological advancement keeps getting halted. However, the people have been around for a while, and I think they can piece a few things together after this much time.

I hope that helps, but read the addition at the bottom if you're still confused after reading this chapter.

Chapter 12

Calm Before the Storm

When the light finally died down, Link felt water on his feet. Link opened the eyes he instinctively closed because of the light and discovered he was standing in the spring where he had received the container he used to collect the light. The container detached from Link's right paw, and he watched as it floated to the back of the spring and disappeared into the water.

The water began to glow just like it did when the light spirit Ordona showed up, and sure enough, out of the glowing water rose a ball of light. Like before, the light spirit formed around it, but this one seemed to be a monkey with a long tail that Link thought looked kind of like a scorpion's, which circled over its head and around its body once. The light spirit seemed to be hugging the ball tightly with all four of its limbs.

Link did notice the twilight was still around. Perhaps the light spirit just hadn't done anything yet?

"My name is Faron." The light spirit introduced itself. "I am one of the spirits of light who dwell in Hyrule. By order of the gods, I protect this forest."

"You've done a fantastic job." Midna sarcastically said from Link's shadow.

"O brave youth…" Faron continued, ignoring Midna. "In the land covered in twilight, where people roam as spirits, you were transformed into a blue-eyed beast."

Link looked at his current form as the light spirit spoke.

"That was a sign."

A sign? Link thought.

"It was a sign that the powers of the chosen one rest within you… and that they are awakening." Faron explained.

What? Link thought.

Faron then said with a slight tone of warning, "Brace yourself."

Unsure exactly what he was supposed to be bracing for, Link prepared himself as well as he could.

Faron began to shine brightly, and as he did, the twilight started to disappear, and the sun shone through the trees. Link was happy for half a second before pain began shooting through his body. Link let out a scream which came out as a loud howl as a familiar feeling enveloped him. The feeling of his body being pulled apart and rearranged, bones snapping and moving to new positions, blood vessels twisting into new places, and he felt fur disappear from his body. His howl turned into what it should have been, a scream, and Link fell to his hands and knees, breathing heavily.

"Look at your awakened form." Faron requested.

It then occurred to Link that he had hands and knees to fall to, and he quickly shot to his feet with a humungous smile on his face.

I'm me again! Link thought I'm finally me again! But what the heck am I wearing?

Link was dressed in a short-sleeved green tunic with a chainmail shirt poking out of the sleeves, collar, and bottom of the green top, which was then on top of a white undershirt that covered all of Link's arms and passed underneath special guards on his forearms. The guard on his left forearm had an additional leather guard strapped onto it with a fancy design. Link was wearing pants of identical color to his long-sleeved undershirt, tucked into brown knee-high boots. Covering Link's hands were fingerless gloves, and on his head was a green hat that was so long it reached about halfway down his back. There was a belt on Link's torso going over his left shoulder and under his right arm designed to hold something, probably a weapon Link realized, and another belt was strapped around his waist with a pouch about the size of Link's hand attached to it on the left.

"The green tunic that is your garb once belonged to the ancient hero chosen by the gods." Faron explained, "His power is yours. His is the true power that slept within you."

Link was shocked at this information and didn't know what to say, so he said nothing.

"Your name is Link." Faron said, "You are the hero chosen by the gods."

Wait, WHAT?! Link thought.

"Brave Link," Faron continued before Link could really process what he was told, "A dark power rests in the temple deep within these woods. It is a forbidden power known as the Fused Shadow. Long, long ago, I and the other spirits of light locked it away in four pieces. One was lost to us, so there is a total of three pieces remaining." Faron's voice took on a severe tone of warning, "Because of its nature, it is a power that should never be touched. But this world weeps beneath a mantle of shadows, and so there is no choice… You must match the power of the king of shadows."

"Don't worry your glowing head!" Midna said from Link's shadow, "I'll hold onto the Fused Shadows for your little hero!"

Faron's gaze was directed towards Link's shadow.

"Do not think that because you do not dwell in the light, you are immune to its effects. Only the Fused Shadow's creators can use it without negative effects, regardless of who you descend from. The only reason the lost piece you wear as a helmet has not corrupted you is because you are strong-willed. But I warn you, do not make use of its power unless necessary. Once you access its power, corruption will flow into you, and you may not be able to resist it."

All was silent in the spring as the light spirit finished speaking and Link and Midna were at a loss for words.

"If you would seek this forbidden power," Faron said to Link, pulling the new hero's attention back, "then proceed to the temple in the forest depths. And if you have a container, take the water from my spring with you. It may aid you in your journey."

Faron's body glowed brightly then split into several glowing orbs, which slowly faded from sight, leaving the hero alone in the spring with his shadow.

Midna emerged in her shadow form due to the sun overhead and looked at the spot the light spirit once was.

"Well," Link said, turning his gaze to his companion and receiving hers, "That was ominous." He then noticed that his initial prediction of her height was slightly off. She did reach up to half his height, but only because of her massive headpiece. Without it, she probably only barely stood taller than his knees.

"No kidding," Midna replied, looked at the now blue sky, and gave an annoyed sigh. "It was so nice in the twilight… what's so great about a world of light, anyway?"

"I can think of two major things," Link said, holding up two fingers with his now gloved left hand

"Oh? and what are they?" Midna said with a mischievous grin, hoping to find some way to mess with Link in his next words.

Lifting one finger, Link said, "people don't turn into ghost things," Link lifted a second finger, "and I'm back to being me!" Link pumped his fist into the air. "HELL YEAH!" the motion of pumping his fist into the air caused a pain in his left side "ow!"

Link grabbed his left side with his right hand and noticed some blood seeping into it. But he also saw a strange expression on Midna's face. It looked like… jealousy? No, that couldn't be right. Why would she be jealous of him getting hurt?

"You've had that thing for, like, two minutes, and you already got it covered in blood. Nice going." Midna mocked him.

"I got hurt before I got this, so it doesn't count." Link retorted as he fiddled with the two belts on his outfit.

"What are you doing? Midna asked.

"There's a spring of magic healing water right there," Link said, pointing to the water, "I'm going to heal myself."

Link removed his green top with ease, but the heavy chainmail under it took some effort to get off.

"That thing looks heavy," Midna observed.

"It is," Link replied. He would need some practice moving around in that thing before he headed to the temple in the forest. Why couldn't he have had that thing when he was struck?

Link forced Midna to turn around before removing the last layer, and she obliged his request, demanding he better hurry up.

The final layer proved to be easy to remove as well and gave Link the chance to observe the damage done to him. There were three horizontal cuts on his left, so two of his opponent's fingers missed. The cuts weren't too deep, but the middle one was bleeding the most, so he decided to focus on that one first.

In the corner of Midna's eye, she thought she saw something and had to take a look.

Link scooped up some water in his hands and poured it on his wounds. It stung, but he knew it would help, so he kept pouring it anyway.

This method didn't prove very effective, so he decided to wet some cloth and hold it on his wound. He turned around to check the small pouch he had left with his upper garments and saw Midna staring at him wide-eyed.

The two just looked at each other in silence for a few seconds before Link spoke up.

"Am I so handsome you're stunned into silence?" he joked, causing Midna to become embarrassed.

"What? No!" She was NOT staring at him because she thought he looked good, although he was extremely muscular. "I just… wasn't expecting… scars."

Link sighed as he once again looked at his scars. He had noticed them not too long after he woke up in Ordon. The villagers had warned him there were some scars from the injuries he suffered when he showed up. They were quite a shock to him before, but he had gotten over it now and just accepted they were there, and there was nothing he could do.

Link grabbed the small pouch as he said, "They were a shock to me at first too, but I sort of got over them."

"What caused them?" Midna asked bluntly.

"You know, if someone has scars, they likely went through something traumatic. It's a bit insensitive to just ask what caused them." Link said as he opened the pouch.

"I really don't care about your feelings," Midna said.

"No kidding," Link replied as he began fishing through the pouch. "What the hell?"

"What?" Midna asked, trying to see inside the pouch.

Instead of replying, Link put his entire arm into the pouch, which should have been impossible.

"What in Din's name?!" Midna cried.

It looked like Link's arm was cut off, and a pouch was stuck onto the spot it once attached to his shoulder, but Link pulled his arm back out, and it was very much still attached to his body.

Link searched his pouch thoroughly and found many things. Food, water, a small knife he would attach to his belt later, before finding a roll of bandages.

"There we go," Link said as he placed the pouch back with the rest of his things and headed back into the spring. Midna tried to pick up the pouch to examine it, but her hand phased through it because she was a shadow.

Midna directed her gaze back to Link as he dipped some of the bandages in the spring's water before wrapping them around himself to cover the wound. It wasn't the best solution, but it would do for now.

"You still didn't tell me how you got those scars." Link ignored her, so Midna continued, "you said you stumbled into this village because you got hurt, are those from that?"

"Midna, I told you I don't want to talk about that." Link said plainly as he began washing the blood off his new clothes.

Midna lounged in the air in front of Link, laying back with her right leg crossed over her left and her hands behind her back.

"I told you I don't care how you feel." She said but seemingly dropped the subject and gazed at the sky.

When she heard Link putting his chainmail back on, she looked over at him and got confused.

Is he glowing? Midna thought, Wait… no, it's just that big ball of light in the sky behind him.

Midna directed her gaze to the sun behind Link, and her eyes were immediately assaulted with pain, and her vision turned white. She quickly turned away with a cry of pain.

"Stupid sun!" She screamed.

"Yeah, don't look at that. It hurts." Link said.

"So not even you light dwellers can handle that thing?" Midna said, rubbing her eyes

"Not looking directly at it, no." Link said as he finished reattaching the belts over his green top. "Can I have the sword and shield?"

"Sure, whatever," Midna said as she snapped her fingers, and the sword and shield appeared in the air before falling to the ground.

Link picked them up and fiddled with them, trying to attach them to the belt on his back and attached the small dagger to the belt around his waist. He ended up having to remove the belt on his back to connect the sword's sheath, but the sheath would stay, so he didn't need a quick way to remove it.

"How do I look?" Link asked.

Midna didn't respond. She just stared at nothing and blinked her eyes several times.

"Uhm… Link…" Midna said, sounding concerned, and Link knew something was going on because she actually said his name.

"What?" he asked cautiously.

"I can't see!" Midna stated in a panicked tone.

"…What?"

"I can't see! Everything is white!"

"…"

"…"

"…shit." Link said.

"Shit? SHIT?! Shit doesn't even begin to describe it! I can't freaking see! And it's all because your damn light world has a stupid goddessdamned sun in it!" Midna ranted.

While Midna was ranting about how Link's world was to blame, Link downed the milk given to him by Sera when he returned her cat that he somehow found in the pouch and rinsed the bottle before filling it with spring water.

"Link! Are you even listening?!"

"No."

"Well, pay attention! I'm yelling at you!"

"I'm going to ask the villagers if they have any tweezers so I can get that stinger out of you. Turn back into my shadow if you want to come." Link said.

"I HAVE to come, remember? If you get too far away, your shadow will come off me, and I'll die!"

"Then do your become a normal shadow thingy so we can go, and I'll try to think of something to do about your eyes too."

"Well, where the hell are you?!" Midna demanded.

"Hold on."

Midna heard some footsteps in the water, and when Link spoke up, the sudden proximity of his voice startled her, "Ok, I'm right in front of you."

Midna dove back underneath Link and once again became his shadow, and he was off to Ordon.

He had to remind Midna if she didn't shut up about how much she hated the sun, people would start freaking out about Link's talking shadow.

Remembering Rusl was hurt, he decided he would head to his house to find tweezers, and so he could check on how Rusl was doing. He jogged to the house in question without running into anyone else on the way. They must all be inside.

Link knocked on the door to the house, and after a few seconds, he heard a lock click, and Uli peak out the door.

"Link?!" she said in surprise before opening the door fully and ushering him inside before locking the door again. "Oh, at last, a pleasant surprise! You are safe at least…"

Link's eyes were immediately glued to the figure on the couch. On the same couch Link had awoken days before, lay Rusl. He was covered in bandages that were stained red, and he was unconscious.

Uli noticed Link's concern and spoke up.

"He will be alright," she said, "you may know, but we were set upon by evil creatures. My husband fought incredibly, but there were too many…" Uli hung her head in sadness, "the children and poor Ilia… they were taken." Uli returned her gaze to Link, "We were all worried that perhaps you had been taken as well."

Link could tell Uli needed someone to talk to, so he let her vent to him.

"Since then," she continued, "We have been hiding in our homes behind locked doors… the silence of this village… does it not chill you as it does me?"

Link lowered his head, knowing she was referring to the absence of the children.

"But… they will come back," Uli said, gaining Link's attention. "I must believe… if we do not believe, then our children are as good as lost already…"

"Don't worry," Link said, "I'll find them."

Uli stared in surprise at Link for a few seconds.

"Link…" she began, "I am grateful for the offer, but you are dealing with a lot yourself. You've only had a few days since your memory-"

"Don't!" Link cried out somewhat loudly, startling Uli and making sure to lower his voice. "worry… about that. I have to do some stuff anyway, so I'll look for them while I do."

Please let Midna have not noticed she mentioned memory! Link thought to himself.

"Ok…" Uli said after a pause, "Thank you… Is there anything I can get you before you go?"

"Do you have a pair of tweezers? I could use one of those," Link asked.

After obtaining the requested item, Link turned to leave but was stopped by Uli.

"Link… that sword… and the shield…"

Oh shit, Link thought, freezing as he reached for the door handle to leave.

"They disappeared, and we could only assume monsters took them, but… you got them back?"

"Uh, yeah…" Link said, turning to face Uli.

"Thank you… my husband worked hard on that sword. He was very upset when it went missing. When he wakes, I will let him know you have it. And I will tell Jaggle you have his shield as well."

"Are you… going to want them back?" Link asked.

"Perhaps when all this chaos is behind us. But you are going to search for the children, and I am sure you will run into danger. But… do you know how to use them?"

"I'll be fine. I know a thing or two about fighting," Link lied.

Uli let out a sigh of relief, "be careful, ok?"

"I will," Link promised as he left the house and headed back to the treehouse.

Link entered the tree and walked into a place the sun didn't get to from the window above him.

"Ok, the sun isn't shining here. You can come out."

"Finally!" Midna cried as she emerged from Link's shadow, "you were blabbing away with that lady forever! Did you forget I was here?! That I'm hurt?!"

"Hey, that blabbing got us the tweezers to get that stinger out of you!" Link retorted, "and I know you couldn't see Rusl, but compared to him, you seem unscathed! I had to make sure he was ok!"

"Yeah, whatever! Just get this stupid thing out of me!"

Link sighed in anger as he retrieved the tweezers and forced Midna to sit down without any warning so he could get to the stinger in her back. After how little she cared for the villagers, her annoyance because Link didn't warn her was amusing. But he wasn't cruel enough not to warn her before removing the stinger.

"Brace yourself," Link said.

Midna tensed up as Link closed in on his target. The stinger was barely sticking out of her skin, allowing him to grab it without needing to dig the tweezers into her flesh. As soon as he closed the tweezers around the stinger, Midna cried out and began convulsing just like any other time the stinger was touched.

"Try to hold still!" Link cried.

Working as quickly as he could and trying to hold Midna still, he pulled on the stinger, and it began to slide out.

After what felt like ages for Midna but was only a few seconds, the stinger was removed.

"I swear," Link said as Midna collapsed, gasping for breath, "it's like this thing was designed to cause as much pain as possible."

Unsure what to do with it, Link wrapped the stinger in a bandage and placed it into his pouch. Link then removed the bottle of spring water.

Link noticed Midna seemed unwell, which he expected because she was just electrocuted for several seconds. She leaned against the wall, her eyes were half-lidded, and she seemed tired, so he waited a bit before offering to try to fix her eyes.

"Do you want me to try to fix your eyes now?" Link asked after a few minutes.

"What… are you going to do?" Midna asked.

"Just put some spring water in them."

"Fine. Do it."

And so, he did. And to Link's surprise, Midna didn't show any reaction at all.

"You took that well. Most people don't like water in their eyes," He noted.

"Didn't know that," Midna stated out.

For several minutes, they were both in silence until Link got two ideas. He had Midna summon one of the blankets so he could cover the window, allowing Midna to move out of the corner and sit in the main section of the treehouse. He used his lantern to light candles in the house, filling it with artificial light. His second idea was to look around for something useful, and he scared the crap out of Midna by placing a heavy box down near her, making a loud thud. Link was able to find some thick clothing for himself and Midna in case it got cold. But there was a problem.

"I am not wearing a kid's clothes!"

"Come on! If it gets cold, you'll want something! It doesn't even have a childish thing on it! It's just a green shirt with a picture of the Triforce!"

"I don't care! Its children's clothes and wearing it would be degrading! Find something that fits me and isn't designed for kids, or just give up!" Midna adamantly demanded.

"There is nothing in Hyrule the size of an imp other than children!"

"Stop calling me an imp!"

"You take way too much offense to being called an imp! What are you hiding from me?"

"Wha-Uhm…!" Midna blurted out, now as nervous as someone who got caught in a lie. "I… don't like being so much smaller than everyone else! I'm an imp in a world of big people!"

Link was not convinced.

"Come on! How could I lie about that? What gave you that idea?"

"You take way too much insult to it," Link began, "you don't seem used to your size and that look of jealousy you gave me when I was finally free from my wolf form. I saw that look."

Midna flinched and looked away, even though she didn't know where he was.

"…I…"

"Midna… if we're going to be stuck together, don't you think you should tell me what's going on?"

"You're one to talk!" Midna suddenly shouted, "with your mysterious 'condition' and that lady said something about your memory! What are YOU hiding from ME?!"

The room was silent for a long time as Link and Midna just stared at each other, which was pure luck on Midna's part.

After a while of just staring, Midna began to see a green blur in front of her. She squinted her eyes to try to get a closer look, but it didn't help.

"See something?" Link asked.

"Yeah, a big green blob of liar and hypocrite."

Link let out a sigh and sat down in front of Midna, "so we both lied. But I think we can both understand why. You obviously somehow got transformed into an imp. That's a sensitive topic and probably not something you tell just anybody."

"Well… yeah… So, I have an excuse and my secrets out. Your quite observant, aren't you." Midna said with a glare that showed she was not happy. Link discovered her secret.

"I'm willing to bet you might have more secrets too."

Link could tell from her reaction he was right, and she was furious.

"And what else have you figured out about me?! Oh, great Hero?!"

"Midna look… how about we-"

"Oh no! You are not changing the subject! What the hell do you know about me?!"

"…All right, fine. You're obviously a member of some upper class, like a rich family. You order me around too casually. It's like you've been doing it for years."

"Anything else?!"

"And I also know there's some connection between our worlds. You don't expect me to believe we just happen to speak the same language, do you? What's your race called, by the way?"

Midna could now make out enough of Link's face to tell he was done. She crossed her arms and shook her head.

"You're kind of creepy; you know that?"

"I do now."

"We call ourselves the Twili."

Both of them avoided eye contact as an uncomfortable silence prevailed, and Link couldn't shake the feeling he had heard the word Twili before.

"Your turn," Midna said in a demanding tone as she wiped some sweat off her forehead.

"Midna, I don't know if I'm-"

"Your. Turn."

With a sigh, Link nodded. Only fair, he supposed. "I… I have… … amnesia…"

Midna cocked her head slightly to one side "anesa?"

"Wha- no! Amnesia!"

Midna looked equally confused.

"What the hell is that?"

"You've never heard of that word?"

"No," Midna confirmed, "What is it?"

"I envy you so much right now," Link said with another sigh as he placed his face in his left hand, causing Midna to raise an eyebrow in confusion. "I lost my memory…"

Link looked up to see Midna's jaw practically on the floor.

"WHAT?!" she screamed after a few seconds. "But… but how?! Why?! I mean… ALL of it?!"

"Yes…" Link said sadly.

"But what the HELL could cause that to happen?! What did this to you?!"

"There are a few things, hard enough hit on the right spot of the head, damage to the brain from some other thing, trauma." Link said as he waved a hand in the air.

"But what did this to you?!"

"I don't remember!" Link said in an almost complaining tone, "I'd like nothing more than to just remember! Remember who I am, where I came from, what kind of person I am, but I just… can't…" Link got up and walked across the room to lean on a wall with his back to Midna. He had hoped to keep this secret from her… damn his moral compass! Why the hell did he think it was only fair because of how much he figured out?! Midna had been nothing but cruel to him so far! Why did she deserve to know?!

"…I'm sorry…"

Link froze. Surely, she didn't say what he thought she just did.

"I… can't imagine what that must be like. I'm sorry you have to deal with that."

Link slowly turned around to look at Midna and saw her wipe more sweat from her face before bringing a fist up to her mouth and coughing into it.

"You ok?" Link asked as he approached her.

"I'm fine," she said as he kneeled to her height. "What are you doing?" Midna askes as Link placed the back of his hand on her forehead and then the side of her neck. She tried to slap his hand away, but she was too weak to do so for some reason.

"You're hot," Link said.

"I know, but thanks for noticing!" Midna giggled before coughing again.

"That's not what I meant," Link said, rolling his eyes.

"Oh, then what did you mean?

"Your temperature is high, like you've got a fever."

"Fever?"

"I think you're sick."

It was then that Midna said something that made Link's heart stop.

"What's sick? And what's a fever?"

Link was in the process of opening his mouth to suggest Midna lay down, but when he heard her question, he just froze.

"Helloooo!" Midna said, waving her hand in front of Link's face, "what's wrong with you?"

"Did you just say…" Link began, slowly locking eyes with Midna, "you've never heard the word sick?"

"Yeah! What is your brain slowing down or something?"

"Midna. This is serious." Link said in a completely deadpan voice and unreadable expression that made Midna immediately shut up. "Has anyone from your world ever heard of the word immune system?"

"Uh… no?" Midna replied.

"Has anyone ever felt bad for a while and then got better?"

"People have gotten hurt from accidents and stuff like tha-"

"Not like that," Link interrupted, "without any physical injury, has anyone felt anything like how you're feeling right now?"

"I'm feeling fine!"

"This. Is serious!" Link said, slightly loudly. "I can tell you're not feeling well." "Now," Link began with a lower volume, "answer the question."

Midna sighed, "this is a waste of time! My vision is back! We should get going!"

Link showed no reaction at all, not even acknowledging her sentence.

"…No," Midna finally admitted, "no one has ever felt crappy for no reason."

Without a word, Link grabbed the bottle of spring water and practically shoved it into Midna's hands.

"Drink this. All of it."

"What's going on?" Midna demanded, "Why? Why do I have to-"

"Now," Link interrupted, "then questions."

Midna wanted to know why Link was acting this way, but she wiped away sweat again before placing the bottle to her lips and drinking the whole thing, which was quite a lot because she wasn't that big.

"There, I drank it," Midna said as he shoved to bottle back into Link's hands, "Now what's going on?"

"Ok," Link began as he put the bottle back into his pouch and sat down. "In this world, sometimes people don't feel well, even if they were totally fine before. We call this getting sick. Now, this happens naturally, and everyone has or will experience it several times in their life. When someone feels this way, they can sometimes get better on their own. Hylian scientists call the body's ability to fight sickness the immune system, but they don't know what it is or how it works. They can just tell it's there because people can get better on their own."

"Wow, that's a lot of information," Midna said.

"I'm not done," Link said, getting a facepalm from Midna. "It's theorized that people have immune systems because of their exposure to sickness. So, if no one from your world ever got sick-"

"We would never have developed immune systems…" Midna finished for him.

"Exactly," Link said, "you'll probably need to drink a bottle of spring water whenever you feel ill."

Midna broke eye contact with Link, "We're done talking about this." Midna then slowly got to her feet using a nearby box for support, "Let's go get that Fused Shadow."

"You're sick! Are you kidding me?!"

"We have to get it! Now, are you coming, or am I going alone?"

Midna slowly stumbled toward the door, and Link knew he had to make his point. He pushed her back with his pointer finger with barely enough force to knock over an empty bottle, and Midna collapsed.

"What the hell was that for?!" Midna demanded as she rolled on her back to sit up.

"I barely pushed you. If you couldn't handle that, how do you expect to survive whatever's waiting at the Fused Shadow?"

"I can fly!" Midna shakily floated up to Link's face and closed in on his face to try to seem intimidating. "Well?!"

With a neutral expression, Link pushed her in the shoulder with the same amount of force as before and got the same result as last time.

"Whatever's waiting out there will do a lot more than push you."

Link pulled a book he found in one of the boxes from his pouch and handed it to Midna.

"Here, you can read this while you recover. You should know about my world if you're going to be here a while."

Midna examined the black cover with a shiny golden picture of the Triforce on it with the words Hyrule: From basics to unknown facts in the same color.

"Are you just looting this place?" Midna asked.

"I was told I could poke around and grab a few things."

"Whatever, I don't care." Midna stared at the book for several seconds. This book could contain valuable information about what she might see in the journey ahead, but… Link had basically ordered her to read it. And she didn't like him.

Link grabbed more blankets and set up two more makeshift beds before setting out to refill his bottle with more spring water, and once he was out of sight, Midna opened the book.

The next chapter will have the Forest Temple, so this is an excellent time for feedback. Tell me how much I suck or don't suck. If I suck, tell me why and how to fix it. If I don't suck and you just have advice, tell me. Though keep in mind I already have the story planned out, so story suggestions are welcome but don't hold your breath waiting for them to get in. Not that there's no chance.

I know it might seem like I revealed a lot of stuff in this chapter, but did I reveal anything you didn't already know? Also, if you think Link shouldn't have known about Midna's transformation until much later, I considered it, but after all the hints I dropped, how could someone as observant as Link could not figure it out?

Ok, a bit more detail. As I stated at the top, the people have been around a long time. I think they can figure out something in the world makes people sick, and people have some kind of natural defense because sick people get better. They can also guess people probably have this defense because of sickness. Why build a wall if nobody ever attacks?

If you still think that is B.S., well, there's nothing I can do. But I think that since Hyrule has been around so long, its inhabitants can piece that much together.
