Chapter 16
Premature Departure
While Link sat waiting for the purple veins to dissipate, he added an entry to his notebook about the strange deku baba he had fought. Since he had no way to color his sketch, he simply noted the plant's color with words. Link's left arm was almost useless, so he had to make the entry with his right hand, but it came out as good as all his others. Midna was extremely impatient and wanted to keep going as soon as possible but always relented when Link told her the poison was still in his chest and near his heart. When the poison receded to Link's arm, her patience died out, and she wouldn't let him lay around any longer.
Midna practically dragged Link to his feet and forced him out the door, but she did help him pack everything up. The only reason Link went along with it was he knew she wouldn't shut up, and he couldn't rest if she kept bugging him. Before leaving, Midna placed the Fused Shadow back on her head, which was a strange sight since she moved her hair through the opening in the top ad then put it on her head. Link clenched his left hand, which proved to be challenging to do, and when he did, his hand shook, and he couldn't hold it steady. It was still numb, and he could barely feel anything with it.
"Don't be a baby," Midna remarked, "you've rested long enough."
"This is my sword arm, Midna."
"It still works. Let's go."
Link grumbled as he opened the door. He hoped Midna might warm up to him after they both saved each other's lives. Guess not. Link struggled to open the door with just his right hand, but he managed. As much as Link wanted to drink the bottle of spring water to fix his arm, he knew he shouldn't waste it on a wound that was already healing in case he needed it for something else.
Several rooms passed before Link entered a room with water running through its middle and a bridge that split into two paths to two doors. The bridge's middle was broken in both directions, but they only needed a little hop to cross. Link went to the left first and struggled to open the door again. He stepped through onto a balcony over a hole he couldn't see the bottom of. There was another balcony with a door leading to another room on the other side, and a bridge sat in the middle of the massive hole, but it was turned sideways and was completely useless. Both sides currently led to nothing. Even if someone could get on the bridge, they would be stuck. On the top of the bridge was a propellor that he recognized from the other bridges that turned with the wind, but there wasn't a single opening in this room for wind to enter.
Link noticed all of that rather quickly as his attention was shifted to the two bokoblins on either side of the door. One tried to get the jump on Link with a swing to the head, but Link ducked and rammed his shoulder into his opponent and sent it tumbling into its ally. Link drew his shield in a flash, but he fumbled to grasp his sword's handle and only barely got it out before the bokoblins recovered.
Another strike was easily blocked, but Link's counterattack was sloppy. His strike was slow and off-target, giving his foe a nasty slash but doing no real damage. Link tripped the bokoblin with his leg and rushed the second one. When his new enemy swung, Link stood firm and led his shield take the blow. Link pointed his sword at his opponent's chest and shoved it in. The bokoblin fell dead, and Link spun around to face the other, but it was on him already. There wasn't enough time to use his shield, so Link blocked with his sword. Miraculously he got his blade between himself and the bokoblin's club, stopping it from striking him. However, his arm was still weak, and the blow knocked his sword from his hands, and it slid out of reach, and Link recoiled in pain, clutching his arm as his body spun around in the same direction his sword went. The monster raised his club for another strike, but Link used his shield to deliver a jab right to the beast's face. The bokoblin stumbled close to the edge but did not fall, so Link quickly fixed that with a dropkick.
"What was that?!" Midna voiced as she left Link's shadow, "why did those things give you so much trouble?"
"Maybe because MY ARM DOESN'T WORK!"
"Don't yell at me because you can't fight!"
"Because I can't fight?!" Link rose to his feet and met Midna's angry gaze with his furious one. "I can't fight because there's poison pumping through my veins, making my arm almost completely useless! I can barely move it!" Midna opened her mouth to retort, but Link wasn't done. "And the only reason I'm fighting with a useless arm is because you wouldn't let me wait for it to heal!"
"Don't you go blaming me!" Midna demanded, pushing him with little effect. "You're supposed to be this great hero, and you can't handle a little injury?! How are you going to get anything done if after every scratch you take, you lay around?!"
"SCRATCH?! You said yourself it looked like I was dying! And maybe the bite is small, but the poison that got in through it is not! It makes my arm stiff and shake when I use it to the point I struggled to fight two monsters who swing blindly with no skill! What will I do if-"
The door Link came through opened suddenly, and two more bokoblins stood in the doorway. They undoubtedly heard the argument and were drawn to the noise. Without hesitation, they rushed Link, who was still dangerously close to the ledge. To make a distance between them, Link threw his shield at the one in the back, slowing it down. The first one took a blind swing at Link's head, and Link ducked under it and grabbed its arm, using its momentum to flip him over his body and send him falling into the giant hole.
The second one ran faster than Link thought it would, and the only thing Link could do was grab its arm to stop the swing. The bokoblin yelled in Link's face as it tried to punch Link with its other hand, but Link grabbed it with his free hand. The bokoblin continued to push against Link, and he couldn't fight its strength with only one fully functioning arm and was slowly pushed back. Midna watched as Link and the bokoblin disappeared over the edge, the bokoblins shrill shriek fading as it fell.
Midna saw Link's hand grasp onto the ledge when he went over, and she floated over the hole to see what Link was doing in this dire situation. Midna saw Link dangling off the edge, supported only by his right hand.
"Use your other hand!" Midna shouted.
"I'm trying!"
Link swung himself to place both his hands on the ledge, but his left hand immediately lost its grip and slipped off. Link tried again and got the same result.
"Shit shit shit shit!" Midna repeated, unsure what to do. Link gave up on his left arm after a third failed attempt and put everything he had into his one working arm. Slowly Link pulled himself up the ledge, nearly falling when he had to move his hand to grab a different part of the ledge after he got half his body up. Midna floated back to the top of the ledge and grabbed Link's left arm with both of hers and her hair hand and pulled. She didn't have much physical strength, but it did help. Eventually, Link was back on top of the ledge, safe from the forces of gravity. Link and Midna both stayed silent for a while and caught their breath, Link laying down and Midna sitting.
"Let's get out of this room," Link said to which Midna nodded. After retrieving his sword and shield, Link walked back into the previous room with Midna in tow and turned his sight to the other door. Midna wasn't looking at anything, just the ground. She crossed her arms and ran what just happened through her head. She knew Link only had so much trouble because he didn't heal fully, but her pride stopped her from admitting it was her fault. Even though she knew it was.
"Midna!"
"Huh?"
Link was clearly talking to her, but she was too absorbed in her thoughts to notice.
"The door," Link said, pointing. Midna followed his point to the other door in the room, which was left open and had sunlight pouring through the doorway. Midna gave a silent nod and merged with Link's shadow.
Hopping over the bridge gaps, Link made his way to the unexplored area. The bokoblins must have come from here and left the door open either because they didn't care or wanted to see what the shouting was as quickly as possible. Probably both.
Link emerged in a circular opening that was completely walled off with a tree trunk and an opening at the top. The floor was covered in grass, and a ramp on the left led down to a lower section. Link descended to the lower area to see some kind of statue in the middle. It had many drawings carved into it and a flat top. Aside from the statue, there was nothing else in the area.
"Are you kidding me?!" Midna cried in her shadowy form, "we came all this way, and this is all there is?! This was the last area we didn't check! All those rooms! All that time! For nothing!" Link didn't listen as Midna continued to rant about wasting time. He examined the statue, and an idea came to him.
"Midna?"
"What?!"
"Can you put this in your pocket dimension?"
"Can I-? What?!"
"I've got an idea. Can you do it?'
"Probably, but why?"
"We're going to use it to get to the other door." Midna looked between Link and the statue, wondering what he was thinking. "As a platform."
"Are you nuts?"
"I don't have any other ideas, and besides, if I mess up, I'll just fall to the ground and can try again."
"Fine," Midna sighed, "but I can't do it in the sun. This shadow form keeps me alive, but I can't do much else while I'm like this."
"What if I cast my shadow over you?" Link questioned, putting his hand to his chin in thought, "would that work?"
"It would. Seems risky, though."
"Don't worry. I'll make sure to cast a big shadow."
"Ok... let's do it."
Midna returned to Link's shadow before slowly exiting. She kept her arms as close to her body as she could and took small steps closer to the statue. Suddenly the area around her was covered in shadow, and she turned to see Link holding a blanket above his head with a confident smirk, stretching it out as much as he could.
"Well, aren't you clever?" With more effort than Midna would admit, she made the statue vanish into particles, storing it safely into her pocket dimension. "There, I got it," Midna commented as she merged with Link's shadow. Link placed the blanket back into his magical pouch and headed back to the door.
"Now we just have to walk all the way back through the temple." He stated, receiving an annoyed groan from Midna.
The journey back didn't take as long because Link wasn't searching every room for the Fused Shadow, but it still took several hours to walk back to the room he was heading for. The journey annoyed Link of its length, but Midna made her annoyance much more apparent. She didn't seem to have much patience and expected results unreasonably fast. She'd better learn some patience because, as Link said before, this journey could take a very long time.
Eventually, Link returned to the main area and hopped back onto the center platform as Midna emerged from his shadow with a "finally!" He glanced over to the doorway he was trying to reach but noticed something unusual.
"Was that door covered in webs before?"
"I don't know," Midna said as she floated over to the door, "I wasn't checking for webs when we were here. Does it matter? Let's just cut it down and move on!" A bad feeling rooted itself in Link's stomach, and he quickly scanned the area as he drew his sword and shield. "You are so paranoid! Get over here!" Link looked all around him but saw nothing. Maybe Midna was right, and he was being paranoid. Link relaxed his stance and began moving to put away his equipment.
Up.
He didn't look up.
Link froze halfway through sheathing his sword and raised his head to look at the ceiling just in time to see a large object plummeting towards him. Link dove out of its path, going off the edge of the raised platform and rolling on impact before spinning to face whatever just tried to crush him.
"What the hell?! Another one?! AND WHY WOULD THERE BE ONE THIS BIG?!"
On the platform, Link saw another skulltula, but this one was twice the size of the last one and seemed like its hide was made of metal. Midna's shouting drew the creature's attention, and all eight of its eyes focused on her.
"Nope!" said Midna as she floated to the roof, "I'm not dealing with that! Have fun, Link!"
"God damn it, Midna."
The giant arachnid made a dive for Link, and he quickly jumped to the side to avoid being hit. Link swiftly sent a stab to the creature's side, but it performed a similar move to his and jumped back to dodge the attack. Link circled the beast to try to get at its exposed side, but it mimicked his movements, wisely keeping its exposed back away from Link. Luckily, Link's arm had a bit more time to recover from being poisoned, since he had to backtrack through the entire temple. It was still a bit numb, but it was almost back to normal.
Link lunged forward and slashed at his opponent, but it blocked it with its hard shell. Link was expecting this, and when his swing finished, he jumped to its back again and took a slash. The blow connected and drew blood from the massive spider, which retaliated by ramming Link with its back. It then tried to impale him with its legs, which Link didn't think it could do until he saw the ends of its legs form into sharp spikes, but Link was too agile for it. When Link got another slash on the spider, it stopped trying to impale him and simply smacked him away.
"Hurry up and kill it!"
"You don't get to lecture me during fights when you don't help!" When Link made the mistake of looking at Midna while shouting, the spider quickly spun in a full circle, sending a ball of web at Link that he narrowly avoided.
"Pay attention, you idiot!"
"Shut up!" Link grumbled.
The spider began keeping its distance from Link and continuously flung web after web at the hero. It seemed they had reached a stalemate. Link couldn't get close because of the constant webs, and the spider couldn't hit Link because he was too agile. Midna grew impatient and tried to help by blasting the spider with magic, but it barely seemed to notice and only aggravated Midna further. The webbing eventually built up to the point where Link ended up jumping back into a web to avoid another, and his foot got stuck, leaving him open to the next web shot, which sent him flying into the wall of the raised platform. The webbing stuck him firmly to the wall, knocking his shield out of his hand and trapping all of him but his arms in the web. The spider began to inch closer to Link, and Midna tried to punch the giant skulltula, but it hopped away and smacked her hair hand.
"Ow! Stupid monster!"
The skulltula returned its attention to Link and charged. Link's shield was just under his foot and stomped down on its edge, making it flip up to shoulder height, where he grabbed it and lobbed it into the spider. The impact caught the beast off guard, making it stagger. It crashed into the wall next to Link, and he swiftly plunged his sword through the bottom of its head until it was pushed to its thick exoskeleton, but it didn't pierce it. The spider reeled back in pain, thrashing about and bleeding until it finally collapsed onto its back and curled up its legs, indicating it had perished.
"Ew! That thing is disgusting! Does it just… stay like that? That's almost as disgusting as when it was alive!"
"Why is that your priority right now?" Link asked in a flat tone, dangling just above the ground.
"Oh, hush you. You did fine." Link and Midna just stared at each other for several seconds. "What are you just dangling there for? Get out of that web!"
"How?"
"Cut yourself free, moron!"
"With what?"
"Your swo-" Midna stopped that sentence when she realized his sword was stuck in the spider's corpse. "Your knife!"
"My knife is stuck under the web," Link said, pointing to the knife on his belt that was indeed stuck under the web.
"Then what are you going to do?"
"I'm just going to chill here. I need you to get my sword." Link said, gesturing to the dead spider.
"No! no way in hell! NO!" Midna said, backing away and waving her hands in front of her. "You shouldn't have done something so stupid and gotten it stuck in the damn thing! This is your problem! You fix it!"
"…"
"…"
"…"
"I am not touching that thing."
"Then find another sharp object. I'll wait here." After a few more seconds of silence, Midna gave an extremely aggravated groan and stormed off to find something sharp. Link felt bad for berating her over her fear of weird and disgusting creatures, but he was upset she left him to fight alone when a simple punch gave him such an advantage against the last skulltula. If she had just distracted the spider, he probably wouldn't be stuck to a wall right now. After several minutes of searching Midna reluctantly hovered over to the dead spider.
"Nope!" She exclaimed after one look at it and flew away again. Link wondered if there was anything that scared him the same way. He must fear something. Well, he feared everything that tried to kill him so far, but no more than the average person would. He hadn't run into anything specific that made him want to squirm away as fast as possible.
I suppose as the hero I don't have the luxury of squirming away, even if I'm scared to death, Link thought.
Eventually, Midna slowly floated back to the dead spider and looked at the sword, she slowly extended her hair hand down to the handle, but it became clear she would have to move the legs to reach it.
"Oh, gods…" Midna said, sounding like she would be sick as she pushed a leg aside, making a sickening cracking noise. She quickly grabbed the sword, and after pulling it for a few seconds, she retrieved it from the spider. She floated over to Link quickly, holding the blade away from her body, and shoved it into Link's hands like it was on fire. "Here! Here's your stupid sword!"
"I can tell that was hard for you to do. Thank you."
"Shut up and get out of that stupid web so we can leave!"
Link wiped the sickly dark green blood on whatever he could reach before working on the web. Dark green blood? That's not right. Skulltula blood isn't dark green. Link slid his sword under the web, away from his body, and began a sawing motion to cut the webbing.
"Will you hurry up?!"
"Give me a second! This web is tough! That big skulltula must have been the one who made the ridiculously strong webs." Link freed his torso and went to work on his lower half, now with his knife in his right hand helping. "That skulltula felt… wrong."
"All the skulltulas feel wrong."
"No, I mean that one was different, and I don't just mean its size. It fought too well. It was like it was another person and not just a mindless monster." Finally freeing himself, Link fell from the wall, landing with a quiet thud.
"Well, it's dead now. Let's go! I don't want to be anywhere near that thing!" Midna floated to the gap separating Link from the door and summoned the statue in the middle with a grunt of effort. "There. Do your thing." Link carefully avoided stepping in any more web as he made his way to the platform's top. Link prepared himself to jump, slightly worried the statue might topple when he jumped on it, but then he saw Midna placed it on top of a web. That was smart. The web would hold the statue in place. With two simple leaps, Link reached the door.
After hacking away at the web on the door, which he had an unsettling feeling the skulltula placed there deliberately to hinder his progress, Link opened the door. After seeing no sunlight come through, Midna rejoined Link as he walked through. The room had a walkway looping around and led to three doors, one at the end and the other two on the way. The door at the end seemed to be the focus of the ramp, so Link decided to check that one first. On the way to the start of the ramp, Link saw the trademark leaf pile of deku babas waiting to jump. He just hoped these were the normal version and not the one with the weird smell. Link approached with his weapon drawn, and the deku babas came up from the ground. They weren't the normal version, but luckily, they weren't the purple kind either. These deku babas had a reddish-orange and black pattern on their head but still a normal-looking stem. Not in the mood for any more surprises from this violent plant species, Link quickly severed both of their stems after dodging an attack from each.
"Behind you, dumbass!"
Link spun to see the maw of one of the plants about to close on his arm, but a magic blast from Midna sent it off course. The severed heads of the deku babas were snaking across the floor after Link even after they were severed, jumping with incredible strength up to his torso to bite him. Link quickly stabbed his sword through the slithering head, and it finally died. Midna tried to smack the other with her large hair hand, but it lunged and sunk her teeth into the orange appendage. Midna cried in pain and repeatedly slammed the plant into the wall before blasting it with magic. The slamming combined with magic blasting brought an end to the determined, yet frail, monster.
"Stupid thing bit me!"
"Well, you killed the shit out of it, so it won't be doing that again." Midna retracted her hair most of the way and rubbed at the spot she was bitten, right under her hair band that seemed to be her wrist on the strange appendage. "I've been meaning to ask, how does that hand work? It's made of hair, but you can use it fine and feel pain through it."
"Its magic," Midna said, retracting the hair hand fully, "I can move just like my other hands and extend or shorten it at will. Even though it's made of hair, I can still feel pain in it, but it won't actually injure me. Luckily, since I can change its size whenever I want, I don't need to get haircuts. That would be excruciating! Just seeing a haircut makes me wince!"
"Sounds like something everyone should do," Link carefully examined the area for other threats as he slowly moved towards the ramp.
"I'm sure they'd like that, but it's not that easy! Having hair like mine is very rare because it's so complicated to do!"
"Huh. So, is it reserved for people of power or high status then?"
"Uh, well…"
"Relax. I already know you're a noble or something, remember? Why are you so secretive?"
"Well, why do you pry so much?!"
"Sorry, I'm a curious guy. I like to know as much as I can about a situation and the people I need to work with. Makes things easier."
"Well, I don't see you offering to tell your life story!"
Silence fell in the room, and it took Midna a few seconds to process what she had just said and its impact. Once she did, she stopped in her tracks and slowly turned to see Link's reaction. She was expecting him to be angry and hurt, but he just looked… sad.
"Trust me. I wish I could."
"Look, let's just get through this temple. You can deal with that problem later," Midna suggested in a normal tone. It wasn't condescending like so many other times she'd spoken, but it wasn't exactly comforting either. She didn't even give an apology. Link just nodded and continued to the door, wishing he could just remember something.
"So, what about this Zant guy? Does he have magic hair?"
"No. But he certainly doesn't need it."
Aside from jumping across a small gap to grab some vines and climb them, Link made it to the end of the ram without incident. Link opened the door before informing Midna there was no sunlight beyond the door. Ever since he first opened a door that led outside, Midna kept her distance when Link entered a new room until he told her it was safe. In the center of the room was a large plant mass that had a giant deku baba head emerging from it. Link was too far for the plant to reach, but that didn't stop it from trying.
"How many plants are there that want to kill us?!" Midna demanded of the room and, as expected, got no answer.
"Seems like a lot."
Link circled the giant plant, examining the room for anything of importance. The room turned out to have no doors or anything of significance aside from the massive plant that snapped at Link whenever he got too close.
"Will you kill that thing already?"
"No reason to, it can't reach me, and this room is a bust. Let's just move on."
Link left the room without suffering any further injury, though he came close a few times. He really thought that room would have something. The door looked important. Well, there were still two more doors in this room. Link headed through the middle door and found a room with the middle a lower level than the entrance with a river through the middle and a bridge made of several square stones with elegant designs. On the other side was a statue identical to the one Link used as a platform. Another bust. Damn.
Link headed back to the last door, which was technically the first, but he passed it, and opened it. There was sunlight on the other side this time, so he had to step away to let Midna merge with his shadow before proceeding. Link emerged on a ledge with a few of the bridges connected to propellers that led to a platform he recognized.
"These bridges will take us to where that monkey went. That's the only place we haven't checked yet."
"Finally!" Midna cried, "what a great idea, leave this door for last. Real smart."
"Oh, shut up. You could have said something if you wanted to check this one first."
After a long time of waiting, the wind blew the bridge into a useable position, and Link ran across before any more wind could change the bridge back. Before Link was the door the monkey had retreaded through, and Link wondered if it was still in there. Link cautiously opened the door and drew his weapon, entering the room and looking around. The roof had patches of leaves like those signifying a deku baba, but there was no way they could reach Link from up there. The center of the room had a circle of the statues Link had seen twice now, with a slightly bigger one in the middle. On top of that statue was the large monkey with the boomerang.
The boomerang was heading towards Link almost immediately after he realized the monkey was there. Link jumped to the side, avoiding the boomerang but still being thrown slightly by the wind. Above Link, deku babas emerged to snap their teeth at the human safely out of reach. Link moved to dodge another boomerang strike, but it wasn't aimed at him. The boomerang flew up to the deku babas in the ceiling and severed their stems. Unfortunately, these were the kind that could survive that and began to snake towards Link.
Link easily outmaneuvered the deku babas, trying to close in on the monkey. Another boomerang pass came at Link too fast to move, and he planted his feet and smacked it away with his shield, but the boomerang itself wasn't the main threat. Wind tore at Link's face, and it took all he had not to be blown off his feet. When the wind finally died down, he nearly got bitten by a deku baba that was able to close in on him when he couldn't move. Quickly Link killed all the deku babas. Avoiding the violent wind at the same time wasn't easy, but he managed. Once the last deku baba was dead, the boomerang cut down another group to replace the last.
Link ran around the room to avoid attacks and watched the monkey for an opening, unsure how a monkey was fighting so well. He again noticed the strange object on his forehead and got a bad feeling about it, like he needed to destroy it. Finally, Link found an opening. When the monkey threw the boomerang again, Link sidestepped it and rammed the statue it was on, knocking it off. Link rushed the monkey and drew his knife. Link swiftly slid it under the object on the monkey's head and tried to pry it off, and it began squirming. The monkey shoved Link to the ground and fled back to the top of the statue with its boomerang.
"What are you doing?!" Midna demanded, "why didn't you kill it?!"
"I know what I'm doing!" Link shouted over another gust of wind, "I need to get that thing off its head!" Link rushed the monkey again, hoping to ram the statue and destabilize it again. Before Link could ram the statue, the monkey hopped to a different one. Link tried again, but each time Link attempted to ram the statue, the monkey moved to another one.
"Ugh! Do I have to do everything?!" Midna emerged from Link's shadow and surprised the monkey with an orange fist to the face. The monkey fell, and Link was on it in a flash, trying to pry the thing off its head with all his might. The monkey again threw Link away and retreated to the top of a statue. Midna tried to punch the monkey again, but now it was dodging Link and Midna's attacks. Eventually, the monkey tired of the floating annoyance and threw its boomerang at Midna when she got close. There was no time to dodge, and Midna was swept up in the current and carried through the air around the room.
When the monkey was distracted with Midna, Link charged in close and was able to ram the statue again before the monkey could move. The statue wobbled, but the monkey held on and didn't fall, but then its own boomerang smacked it in the head, stunning it, and the wind slammed Midna into the monkey, knocking it off the statue.
Heh, nice shot Midna Link thought, even though he knew Midna had no control over where she went at the time.
The monkey collapsed to the ground, and Link again rushed it. Prying didn't seem that effective, so Link stabbed the object with his dagger, careful not to send it into the monkey's head as well, and then pried it off with the blade. Link chopped it in half with his sword for good measure, even though it was already dead.
While Midna recovered from her unintentional flying, Link finished off the group of deku babas. Link approached the monkey to see it unconscious on the floor, and Midna slowly getting to her feet next to it, clearly dizzy.
"Stupid monkey…"
"Actually," Link said as he sheathed his sword and put away his shield, "you should be insulting the thing that was on its head. It was controlling the monkey."
"What?" Midna questioned, looking at the object in question and realizing it was a bug. "What the hell is wrong with the creatures in this world? First, there are giant disgusting things, and now one that can control minds?! Ugh! I hate this place!" Midna backed away from the dead bug and glanced around the room, "and this place is a dead end! Well, isn't that just perfect! You said this was the last room, and there's nothing here?!"
Link ignored Midna as she continued to rant about their lack of progress, now insulting the light spirit by calling it an idiot for sending them to the wrong place, and picked up the boomerang from the ground. The boomerang's gem seemed to have changed from red to blue with no explanation as to how once the monkey was defeated. Link threw it, and it made the same wind effect before returning to him, and he caught it with ease. As a bonus, the sound of the wind made Midna stop complaining.
"Well, at least we have that." She said, floating over to Link and examining the object. "Should make it easier to get back if the bridge is facing the wrong way again."
"The bridge…"
"Yes, the bridge," Midna said, rolling her eyes. "Did you hit your head or something?"
"No. The bridge! At the place I almost fell off because you were an asshole and wouldn't let me rest! There was one of those bridges there!"
"Oh, yeah! Wait, did you just call me an asshole?"
After making his way back through several rooms, Link arrived at the place he almost fell off because Midna was an asshole and wouldn't let him rest. He threw the boomerang at the propeller on the bridge, and it rotated, positioning itself to be usable. Link crossed the bridge and headed through another door, emerging into a large room. Like the last room, the only thing of note was a door on the other side, but the bridge was destroyed this time.
"Great! Now what?!"
"Hmm… Can you give me that vine?" Link requested, pointing to a long vine dangling in the middle of the massive gap.
"That is a terrible idea! You better not fall!"
Midna floated over the drop and grabbed the vine, bringing it back to Link, who used it to swing over the hole. He let go when he was close to the edge and landed safely at his objective with a roll. While Link waited for Midna to cross the gap, he examined the door before him. It was at least twice as big as any of the other doors and had metal torches on both sides with holes in the sides for the fire to rest in, and the torches had carefully carved symbols all over them. This door was definitely important.
"Ready?" Link asked Midna when she arrived.
"Yes! Let's get that Fused Shadow so we can get out of this stupid place!"
With a nod, Link stepped forward and opened the door.
