PROXIMITY ALERT

The words flash red on the screen of the Batcomputer, the mechanical voice of the computer ringing them out as the warning sounds off. Bruce Wayne was already seated in front of the computer, doing some research when the alarm interrupted him. With a swift movement of his fingers across the keyboard, he pulls up a visual of the intruder. The cameras reveal a metallic object hurtling towards an open area of the Wayne Estate, seemingly falling from the sky. The speed at which it is moving gives him little time to react before it crashes into the earth with a resounding "boom". Smoke obscures the camera's view but he is able to run an analysis on the footage they managed to capture prior to the collision.

Dick Gayson hurriedly appears in the BatCave at the sound of the commotion outside their home. Bruce is already preparing his suit. Dick finds the computer running an image analysis of the footage taken from the crash. It rapidly compares frames from the footage, measures the dimensions of the object, and runs comparisons to known visual matches.

"Is this what was making all that noise? What is it, exactly?"

The computer chimes,

ANALYSIS: INCONCLUSIVE

"We're going to find out. Suit up."

Dick hurries over to where his Robin suit is and works quickly to put it on, while Bruce reviews the data on the computer. He scrolls through the likely comparable images, seeing if he can surmise the highest likely possibility. He has managed to change into his full Batman suit, but keeps his cowl off while he reviews the data.

Closest Match: Unidentified Spacecraft

Origin: Unknown

"The computer said the analysis was inconclusive. Any idea what we're walking into?" Dick calls out as he comes over in his suit.

"Be prepared for anything."

"Great," Dick replies sarcastically

Batman and Robin cautiously approach the crash site. There is still some amount of smoke surrounding it, but the initial cloud has thinned out. With the smoke cleared, they can make out the shape of the silver pod more easily, confirming it is definitely of alien origin. Yet, something about it seems familiar. The technology of the craft, the metals that comprised it, seem to be beyond what technology is capable of on Earth, but somehow it still seems strangely human in design. Batman runs a scan on the area surrounding the pod to check for any danger. Robin can make out a faint, rhythmic sound like drumming or knocking coming from the direction of the crash site.

"Batman, did you hear that?"

When the initial scan reveals no sign of danger, they cautiously approach closer, running scans on the pod as it comes into view. Again, Robin can hear soft thudding noise, nearly swallowed by the smoke in the air, but clearly resounding from the pod.

"There it is again," Robin exclaims.

Slow, rhythmic thuds, like the pounding of a fist. Concern growing within him, Robin moves closer to investigate.

"Robin, wait! We don't know what's inside there."

"What if it's a person in there? What if they need help?"

As he moves closer, the thudding becomes louder and clearer and he can make out the faint sound of a muffled voice. The sound of it pulls him closer to the pod, despite Batman's warning.

"I can hear a voice; I think someone is trapped inside!"

"Dammit, Dick, I told you to stay away!"

As Robin gets closer he can see a window at the top of the pod and a pale fist slowly banging against it. He rushes over to get a closer look. He peers inside of the window and sees the face of a girl about his age, a stream of blood trailing down her face. Her fist falls to her side and her striking gray eyes show a look of relief at the sight of him. From what he can make out, she seems to be covered in scrapes and bruises, likely from her abrupt landing. A weak smile appears on her lips before they part to speak.

"My Hero," she says weakly.

Her voice is almost too faint to hear, but Robin is able to make sense of her words.

"The door…it's stuck. I'm…trapped."

She points to the seam in the pod where the door is meant to be, and Robin calls out to his companion for assistance.

"Batman, there's a girl stuck in here! She needs our help!"

Batman lets out a heavy sigh as Robin proceeds to examine the wall of the craft, fiddling with its surface to try and find a way to set the girl free.

The scan on the pod is finally completed. Only one lifesign in the pod, and it was, in fact, weak. No obvious weaponry equipped to the inside or outside of the pod, and no known poisons inside or surrounding it. Oxygen was running low inside of the craft. Safe enough to investigate, and a life is indeed in need of saving. He moves to Robin's side. Together they manage to cut into the seam the girl had pointed to and pry it open with a piece of discarded metal in the wreckage. The door hisses open and the sound of the girl's coughing follows. Robin leans inside to pull her out. She looks human, but some of her features indicate she might be otherwise. Her hair and eyebrows are an ethereal silver, her eyes a soft gray, and her skin an alabaster complexion that almost seemed to glow. Upon closer inspection she still does look to be about the same age as Dick, but a small white tattoo of a crescent moon with three small circles adorns the center of her forehead which seems out of place for someone so young. A simple, silver circlet decorates her shoulder length hair and she is dressed in what seems to be a kind of flight suit, all in various shades of white.

"Are you okay?" Robin asks her as he lifts her out of the wreckage.

Her body is mostly limp, weak from the injuries she sustained from the crash, but he finds it surprisingly muscular for someone her size.

"I will be, now, thanks to you… I am very fortunate you… came to my rescue." She pauses to cough before continuing. "What do I call you, my hero?"

Her voice is weak, but somehow still somewhat melodic as she speaks. He blushes a little at the embarrassing title she gives him before stumbling over his words a little bit. He almost gives her his real name by accident, but catches himself before he replies.

"Robin, is fine." He gestures behind him, "And he is called Batman."

"Robin," she repeats weakly with a faint smile on her lips. "Thank you…for…saving me." She struggles to get out. "My ship…it can't be found…please. Red button…before…anyone."

She loses consciousness in his arms.

"Batman, we have to help her."

"We should drop her off at the nearest hospital. There's no way her crash landing went unnoticed. People will be arriving here soon to investigate this mess and we're going to need answers before then. We don't need to bring any unwanted attention to the manor."

"You want to drop her off at a hospital? Won't that be dangerous for her? Besides, it looks like her injuries are mostly minor. She probably just needs a safe place to rest while she recovers. Why can't we do that for her?"

"We don't know anything about her. She could be dangerous; there could be people after her."

"We know she needs help. Shouldn't that be enough?"

Batman has been here before and he knows too well just how stubborn Robin could be when it comes to saving people. He has such a big heart but sometimes Batman thought it got in the way of his ability to think logically. And they are on a time constraint. He acquiesces.

"Fine, take her inside. At the very least it'll keep her out of sight when they arrive. Now I have to figure out what to do with this ship."

"She said something about a red button."

"You think we should just do what she says? What if that's a self-destruct sequence?"

"Well, that will still take care of the ship, won't it?"

Batman grumbles in frustration before sticking his head into the pried doorway of the ship and searches for a red button. Most of the buttons and controls in the craft have labels in what looks like some variation of Greek, but there is one unmarked red button tucked away from the rest. He places a honing target right beside it and exits the way he entered. After moving to what he deems a safe enough distance away, he throws one of his Batarangs at the honing target. It finds the button easily and then there is a bright flash of light. Expecting a following explosion, he braces for impact, shielding himself with the protection of his cape. To his surprise, there was no such explosion. Batman lowers his arm and discovers that where there was once a spacecraft there is now what looks like a meteor. Satisfied with that resolution, he hurries inside to change out of his suit before curious onlookers arrive.
