Kintsugi
Part 5
Artemis opened her door to find Zatanna standing in the hallway. "Zee?"
"You're a horrible friend," Zatanna said as she forced her way into the apartment. "I have been waiting for your phone call to hear about your date with Mitchell. And do I get a phone call?" She gave Artemis a glare.
Artemis shut her door with a sigh. "Sorry."
"Well, you can make it up to me by giving me all the gory details in person."
"Gory details? We went to a baseball game."
"It's an expression." Zatanna pulled two bottles of wine out of her bag and put them on the kitchen counter before grabbing two glasses. "I went ahead and ordered food. Should be here in about an hour."
"I'm going to change."
Artemis left Zatanna in the kitchen and headed into her room. She changed into a pair of yoga pants and a t-shirt that had Brucely's face on it. She pulled her hair into ponytail before heading back to Zatanna.
Zatanna had two glasses of wine and a bottle on the coffee table. Zatanna herself was tucked into a corner of the couch with her feet under her. She pointed to the other end. "Sit. Spill."
Artemis took a glass of wine and sat down. "We went to a baseball game. Had a good time."
"Artemis," Zatanna growled.
"Okay, I may have kissed him."
"What!" Zatanna sat up. "What did he do? Was it good?"
"It was too quick for him to do anything. I practically ran inside and shut the door in his face."
Zatanna ran a hand over her face. "Oh my god, Artemis."
"I know, I know." She took a healthy drink of her wine. "But apparently he didn't mind because he wants to go out again on Friday."
"The guy obviously likes you." Zatanna picked up her glass of wine. "Do you like him?"
Artemis studied her wine for a moment before saying, "Yeah, Zee, I do."
"Finally!"
Artemis shot her a look.
"You've been avoiding admitting any kind of feelings for weeks. You're making progress."
"Thank you, Dr. Zatara," she replied, rolling her eyes.
Zatanna saluted her with her glass. "You're welcome."
They were silent for a moment as they each drank their wine. Finally Zatanna broke the silence. "So, where are you going Friday?"
"We're going to a local festival. Outdoors. Music. Casual."
"So you've already said yes?"
"Don't make a big deal out of this, Zee."
"What? I'm just asking questions. As your friend."
Artemis sighed. "Fine. Yes, I've said yes. We're meeting there."
"Do you know you what you're going to wear? A dress?"
Artemis shrugged. "I don't know. I can probably wear jeans."
Zatanna pulled out her phone. "What's the name of festival?"
Artemis gave her the name.
Zatanna did a quick search. "Yeah, you may want to rethink those jeans."
Artemis grabbed the phone. It had some big bands as well as high end local venders. "Yeah, jeans aren't going to work."
Zatanna took their wine glasses and put them on the coffee table. She stood up and pulled Artemis to her feet. She led Artemis towards her room.
"Zee, what are you doing?"
"We're going to see what we've got to work with and try to pick out your outfit. That way you're not calling me in a panic on Friday night."
"I can pick out my own clothes, Zatanna!"
"Of course, you can," Zatanna said as she shoved Artemis into her closet. "I'm just here to help."
"I hate you!"
"No, you don't," Zatanna said as she sat down on the bed to wait.

Artemis tried on almost every dress in her closet before they found one that they both liked for her date. The food that Zatanna had ordered had arrived and the impromptu fashion show was abandoned. They returned to the living room. Artemis gathered plates while Zatanna picked out something on the TV.
Zatanna opened the second bottle of wine and refilled their glasses. Artemis dished out food and passed a plate to Zatanna. She took her glass of wine and settled into her corner of the couch.
"I can't believe that you were right about Andrew getting kicked off," Zatanna said as the show came on.
"I can't believe you thought it was going to be Gabi," Artemis said. "She's too good to go this soon."
"Nah, she's going to go soon. Just watch and see."
They finished their meal and the wine as they watched the show. Zatanna smirked as another contestant Liz was sent home. "Told you so."
"There's still next week."
"She's still be there." Zatanna picked up the remote. "So what's next?"
Artemis named another show. "Thanks for being here, Zee."
She reached over and squeezed her hand. "I wouldn't be anywhere else."
