Hailey had requested overtime again. She had been doing this off and on over the past month and a half since Jay left. Her unit went home and she joined some patrol officers for a case looking for a missing girl named Abby. She got her partner and they began to try to figure out what happened. They were able to come up with a possible location and met up with the rest of the team assigned to the case. They began to search the factory and she was alone. She found a girl and ran up to her.

"Hey, are you ok? I'm a cop. Your safe now" Hailey told the girl.

"Run" Abby replied.

Hailey didn't know why Abby said that but the next thing she knew she got hit in the head and woke up bleeding on the floor. One of the officers on the team and found her after hearing a commotion. An ambulance was called but she refused treatment. Her team got there as she walked away from the ambo.

"You ok?" Voight asked

"I'm fine just a slight headache. We need to nail this guy" Hailey replied.

They worked on the case and were able to find a possible location for Abby again. Hailey and Kim partnered up to search the top part of the building. They split up to check different parts of the top floor. Hailey heard gunshots and determined they came from the roof. When she ran out she saw Abby holding the gun. She had shot and killed the man who took her.

"Abby? Abby youve gotta drop the gun" Hailey said as she walked towards her which caused Abby to panic and back up towards the edge of the roof."It's ok it's ok just put the gun down put it down Abby put it down" Hailey told her and she listened.

"It's ok I'm not here to hurt you ok?" Hailey reassured her. I'm gonna let everyone else know to stand down ok? It's ok Abby it's ok

Abby was walking towards the end of the roof so she called off her team so they could have privacy and not freak Abby out even more.

"Ok, Abby it's just me and you. I've been looking for you. My name is Hailey. I'm here to help you ok?" Hailey tried to reassure her but Abby was still panicking and getting closer to the edge of the roof.

"He-he wanted to kill me. He chased me up here. He wanted me to jump to die. I-I just I couldn't take it anymore I can't oh god I cant

"Hey, he's gone now its ok" Hailey comforted her.

"I cant" Abby replied, shaking violently.

"Yes, you can i know you can. Don't look at him look at me. Abby look at me. Abby I know what he did this is self-defense this is not your fault you are not in trouble ok Abby it's ok" Hailey reassured her. "Do you remember me?" she asked.

"I just want it to stop I just want to to stop ok I can't- I can't take it anymore. I can't handle it oh my god I can't I can't feel this way anymore" Abby replied.

"Your gonna feel better at some point Abby. Abby, it's not gonna be like this forever ok? You're gonna get through this you're gonna pull through this. And I'm gonna help you. I'm gonna do everything I can to help you I'll be right here for you. So you got me and you got Sean" Hailey told her. Abby looked like she was going to step forward until she mentioned Sean. "Sean has been doing everything he can to find you he cares about you and he wants to help you I'm gonna do everything I can I promise you. You will not be alone. She finished.

Abby proceeded to jump off of the building.

"NO NO NO NO" Hailey ran out of the building and saw Abby's body being covered up. She ran to her car and fell on the floor sobbing and hyperventilating.

Kim ran up to her when she saw what was happening.

"Hey Hails you ok it's ok you're safe take a deep breath" Kim tried to calm her down but it wasn't working. She was getting worse. Kim put her hand on her back and Hailey jumped away.

"Hey it's ok I'm not going to hurt you your safe" Kim soothed. Hailey was hyperventilating so hard it caused her to throw up. Which only made her panic worse and she began to scratch at herself. Kim went to grab her hands but it only made it worse so she called for an ambo. When they got there they immediately ran up to Hailey.

"Hey Hailey you're going to be ok. You're safe I'm going to give you something to calm you down" Brett said as she got a sedative ready. '"Quick pinch honey" she warned as she gave her the sedative. Within a minute Hailey was asleep on the gurney. Kim went with her in the back of the ambo.

"What happened? I've never seen her like that?" Brett asked.

"She had a really rough case where the victim ended up jumping off of a building right in front of her. I think that on top of Jay leaving and her bottling everything up just pushed her over the edge. She also got hit in the head the other day but refused treatment" Kim replied.

Brett took a look at the welt on her head and then checked her eyes.

"I think she has a concussion," Brett told her.

They got to the hospital a few minutes later and sent her up for a CT. The CT showed she had a mild concussion. She woke up a few hours later.

"Hey Hails how are you feeling?" Will asked.

"Tired what happened?" Hailey replied.

"You had a really bad panic attack and had to be sedated" Will replied,

"Did I hurt anyone?" Hailey asked.

"No but you scratched up your arms and chest" Will replied.

"When can I go home?" Hailey asked.

"Tomorrow night. You have a concussion we want to monitor" Will told her.

"Where is Voight I need to speak to Voight," Hailey asked,

"I'll call him to try and get some rest for now" Will replied.

Will called Voight and he got there an hour later. Hailey wasn't fully asleep and woke up when he came in.

"I think Sean had something to do with the trafficking. I had pretty much talked Abby off the ledge and then when I mentioned Sean her whole demeanor changed and when I told her that Sean had been looking for her and cared about her she jumped. I think Sean is involved" Hailey told him

"Ok, Hailey thank you for the information. We will look into it. For now, focus on getting better call any one of us if you need anything" Vogight told her,

He waited till she fell asleep and then called everyone in for an emergency meeting. He told them all of the information Hailey told him and they began to dig into it. Trudy stayed with Hailey overnight in the hospital.

When they got home they both went to the guest room. Trudy had been staying in bed with Hailey when she was anxious since she didn't have Jay to do that for her anymore.

Hailey woke up screaming from a nightmare a few hours later.

"Ssh Hails you're safe your at my house your ok it's not real" Trudy soothed.

Hailey woke up and started sobbing,

"This is my fault. If I hadn't mentioned Sean or stopped when I saw her demeanor change Abby could still be alive right now. Her death is on me I killed her this is my fault I_ Hailey began to hyperventilate.

"Woah Hailey ssh just breathe breathe for me. None of this is your fault. You didn't do anything wrong. You did everything you could. The only people at fault are the people who hurt her, you did not kill her this is not on you" Trudy soothed.

Hailey cried herself to sleep in Trudy's area.

She had multiple nightmares over the next few days and struggled with the guilt of Abby's death. She was still blaming herself. She went back to barely eating and sleeping again. Most nights she just laid and stared at the wall all night so Trudy wouldn't find out.

When she finally was able to go to work she started helping the team find more information on Sean. It took another week and a ton of overtime on Hailey's part but when they went to arrest Sean,. They arrested him and went to contact his dad. When they got to the house they found that he had committed suicide. Two weeks later Hailey was still barely eating and sleeping. She was wearing baggy clothes to help hide how much weight she had lost. She was at work on a case when Voight asked her to talk to a witness who had come in. She stood up and her vision went blurry and her knees buckled and she fainted. The team ran up to her.

"Kevin go get Trudy and tell her to call 911" Voight ordered.

"Hailey? Can you hear me?" Voight asked as he did a sternum rub. He got no response.

Trudy came running up the stairs a few seconds later, on the phone with 911.

"What happened?" Trudy asked.

"I don't know/. I asked her to talk to a witness and when she stood up she fainted" Voight replied and Trudy relayed that information to the dispatcher.

Voight took her pulse. And it was racing.

"Her pulse is racing," Voight told her and Trudy told the dispatcher. They hung up less than a minute later. Voight picked Hailey up to get her somewhere safer in case anything else happened and noticed how light she was.

"She feels light," Voight told Trudy.

Sylvie and Violet got there a minute later.

"What happened?" Violet asked.

"She stood up and passed out. She feels really light" Voight replied.

Sylvie lifted up her shirt and they all saw how much weight she had lost.

"Oh my god," they all said simultaneously

"I'm gonna check her blood sugar," Violet said as Brett handed her the supplies.

"It's 40," Violet said.

Sylvie quickly injected some medicine to raise her blood sugar into her leg and got her on the gurney.

Violet drove while Syvlie took care of her. Trudy rode with her to the hospital.

Sylvie got her hooked up to the monitors and got an IV in which was hard because it was hard to find a good vein.

Hailey woke up as she was being wheeled into the hospital and was confused.

"What happened?" Hailey asked.

"Your blood sugar was really low and it caused you to faint," Will told her and she started to cry.

"Hey no it's ok. We're going to figure this out. You are going to be ok" Will reassured her.

They got her into a room, took her vitals, and blood sugar, and drew labs. Hailey was sleeping when Trudy came in sp she carefully sat down next to her and gently grabbed her hand. Will came in and woke her up an hour later when her bloodwork came back.

"I need you to wake up for me Hails," Will told her. Once she was awake Will told her about her results. "Your bloodwork and physical exam show that you're malnourished. You have multiple vitamin deficiencies and anemia. We are going to give you some IV and oral supplements as well as set you up with Dr.Charles and a nutritionist." he informed her.

"Ok thank you" Hailey replied.

Will left and she began to cry and Trudy hugged her.

"Ssh it's going to be ok. We are going to help you every step of the way. You're going to get through this. You are not alone" Trudy told her.

Dr.Charles came in a few minutes later and Trudy stepped out to give them some privacy.

"Hey Hailey. I heard youve maybe been having a hard time eating" Dr.Charles started off the conversation.

"It's not what it looks like. It's not that I don't want to eat I just can't. I havent really had an appetite since Jay left. Usually, I can only eat a small amount. When I try to force myself to eat more I throw up. " Hailey explained.

"Ok, it sounds like you are struggling with anxiety and depression. I would like to prescribe you some medication and admit you to an intensive therapy program. It's for one month. The first two weeks of the sessions are all day so you'll have to take off work but the last two weeks are only half days so if you're up to it you can go to work for half the day. I will inform the nutritionist of your nausea and appetite. Does that sound good?" dr. Charles replied,

"Yes thank you for everything" Hailey replied.

"Of course. I'm here all night if you need anything" Dr Charles told her.

A few minutes later, the nutritionist walked in.

"Hi, Hailey it's nice to meet you. I'm Dr.Johnson. I'm the nutritionist here at Chicago Med.

"Nide to meet you o" Hailey replied as she shook her hand

"So Dr.Charles has already filled me in on what's going on. I am going to prescribe an appetite stimulant and some Zofran. I'm going to create a nutrition plan for you with a combination of vitamin and mineral-rich foods as well as some supplements. I will have your plan to you by the time you're discharged." Dr.Johnson told her.

"Ok sounds good" Hailey replied.

"Do you have any questions?" Dr.Johnson asked.

"No thank you though" Hailey replied.

My number will be on your nutrition plan in case you have any questions. I would like to see you in person in two weeks. If you need anything before then feel free to reach out" Dr Johmson told her.

"Ok thank you" Hailey replied.

Hailey was discharged the following morning. Trudy picked her up and drove her straight to her therapy appointment. She then went to the store and picked up everything on the list from the nutritionist since Hailey would be staying with her for the time being.

After one week of the sessions, she was already starting to improve. The meds were helping a lot and she was getting back to a normal appetite.

Two weeks later, she was able to go back to work for half days. She was doing a lot better. She also went to see the nutritionist who was happy with her progress. She got bloodwork done and was able to lower the doses of some of the supplements .

She had a little under 6 months until Jay was supposed to be home and she was starting to improve even though they weren't able to talk much.
