Sonic tapped his foot impatiently as the various doctors and technical engineers looked over Cyber. On the few occasions the two had crossed paths, Sonic had known her to be fairly cheery and talkative, but after whatever she had seen, she was just distant and quiet, a sadness lingered in her robotic eyes that he wasn't comfortable seeing in them.
And the absence of Jack and Raccoon had him extra worried.
Finally, Tails emerged from the room, seeming just as confused as Sonic. "Well, PHYSICALLY, she's fine, but it's like she's just...Shut down. Mentally, anyway. The lights are on, but we can't tell if anybody's home yet."
"Let's just hope she's able to snap out of it pretty quickly." Sonic said, his mind also wandering a bit. The two turned as Amy approached. "Blaze is stable, but we don't know when she's gonna wake up. Whoever this was...They hit her pretty hard."
"She's strong. She'll pull through." Sonic responded. "But I think we ALL know who did this. By the way, did you manage to get in touch?"
"With that rookie you ended the war with? No. They've been pretty hard to get ahold of since they left the Resistance." Amy said, shaking her head.
"Well, keep trying. Infinite's gonna be wanting revenge on THEM, too." Sonic said as he began to pace around the room.
"But are we REALLY sure this is Infinite? I mean, you two defeated him with the help of that younger you, right?" Tails asked.
"We beat him down until he got absorbed into the Phantom Ruby, and then we never managed to follow up on that. Got too busy with Neo Metal, and the Metal Virus, and everything else after that." Sonic responded, still darting all around.
"Well, I mean, come on, they said this guy had energy whips and stuff! And Blaze never met Infinite before! Maybe she made a mistake!" Amy countered.
"I wouldn't put your money on that, pink hedgehog." A voice from the nearby dark corner piped in. Turning to face it, the three discovered Shadow the Hedgehog, brooding as usual. "I had Rouge pull together footage and other data from the site." He activated a small hologram projector in his hand. "It's true that the powers don't line up with his previous data, but there's no denying who it is in this footage."
Sonic, Tails, and Amy watched as Infinite's energy whips disintegrated everyone they touched, ending when Team Wolf entered the scene. A freeze frame quite clearly showed a blurry image of Infinite's new look. Amy gave a small glance into Cyber's room, realizing what had put her friend into this state. "But...how?"
"The 'how' doesn't matter right now. What matters is taking him down before anybody else gets hurt." Shadow said, before pointing a finger into Sonic's chest. "And as much as I hate to admit it, that means WE need to come together on this."
Sonic was taken aback. "Shadow the Hedgehog, cruisin' for a team-up? What are they putting in your coffee beans, dude?"
"Last time Infinite struck, I had an opportunity to warn you, but I underestimated him. THIS time, I will make no such mistake." Shadow responded, crossing his arms and looking away. "He's already taken first blood, I say we find him now, and strike before he gets even more powerful!"
Cheerfully, Sonic put a hand on Shadow's shoulder, much to the black hedgehog's irritation. "Well then, what are we waiting for, battle buddy? Let's get MOVIN'!"
