Forces: Chasing Memories is the 2nd set of chapters. After the dust has settled after the battle with Infinite, everything should've went back to normal, but unfortunately it didn't. Not for a two tailed fox. Unable to come to terms for what Chris has done for his sacrifice, but what if there was a way to bring him back? Luckily for there is, but at what cost?
A MAJOR thanks to the Beta-Reader here on that helped me put this into words and to fix it as much as possible till I felt confident with it. Thanks to...

Chapter 7: The Line Between Good and Evil
Craig stands there watching Curtis and his men drag the pilot's unconscious body, which is then forcefully shoved into the nearest vehicle.
Curtis turns to look back to Craig and flips him off as he mocks, "Next time, don't be so slow." He laughs entering the car.
Craig returns back a halfhearted smile and waves them goodbye. Once Curtis was gone, he patiently waits as more BOA soldiers leave. Craig made sure to keep an eye on the bush the whole time.
Once enough of them leave, he secretly leans to two of the BOA soldiers next to him and whispers, "Follow me."
The two Boa soldiers look at each other and then back to him letting him know, "Didn't you get demoted for fucking up at the radio tower? You can't give orders to anyone."
Craig snaps back annoyed, "Thanks for the reminder, ya'dick. Just trust me for once. The payoff is going to be worth it."
The two soldiers look at each other again as one of them mocks, "Fine. We give you permission to lead."
Craig snarls back and just walks away not uttering a word back.
The two soldiers follow while Craig sneaks his way around to the bush. He raises a hand to make the two soldiers stop. He puts his finger to his mouth and then points signaling to look at the bush. He whispers, "Stay here hidden. He might run this way." He un-holsters his modified glock-9 handgun.
"Run this way?" one of the soldiers asks, as they look at the bush seeing the kid in it. "Oh shit."
"Just stay here. I'll handle this," Craig orders again.
"Yeah, sure," one of the soldier's remarks back.
Craig quietly sneaks behind the correct bush and gently shoves the gun into it. He demands, "Get out… now."
The bush lightly rustles as the kid slowly exits out worried. Eyes on Craig's gun, he pleads, "Please don't hit me."
Craig just smirks, hearing his voice tremble in fear. "I'm not going to hit you… unless you run, then I'll use you as target practice. Spoiler alert…" he leans down closer and grins. "I don't miss."
The kid nods in agreement staring at Craig's gun, and then looks upward into his eyes.
Craig stares back into his eyes and begins to feel weird. It was like any semblance of anger and bitterness was being purged out of his body causing him to slightly lower his gun…
Suddenly, the kid gets tackled to the ground by one of the BOA soldiers.
Craig gets startled from of it, causing him to snap out of it.
The kid yells out in shock, "Ahhgah! Ahh! Mhmhm…!" But, he couldn't put up a struggle, getting restrained and his mouth taped shut in an instant.
"Good one Craig. Curtis might have one of Sonic's friends, but at least we have the damn kid," one of the BOA soldiers says. He picks up the kid and throws him over his shoulder.
Craig didn't approve of the way he was treating the kid. "Riiiight, let's head back to turn him in."
Heading back to their vehicle, Craig rubs his hands together excitedly. "I personally would love to see Curtis' face when…-" He stops and looks around for the car. He then notices that all of the other BOA soldiers were gone. In frustration, he sighs and rubs his forehead. "They took the damn car."
"Tell me that you have a radio to call them?" one of the soldiers asks.
"I do. It's in the damn car," Craig answers, trying not to get mad.
Both BOA soldiers glared at him.
He glares back at them, "How was I supposed to know they were going to take the damn car?"
The soldier drops the kid to the ground. Muffled pain comes out from him. "Now we have to fucking walk," he complains.
Craig was surprised from what he just did. "HEY! Watch it with the package."
"You want to carry him?" the soldier snaps back.
"He barely weighs anything, so quit your bitching and let's get going."
"When did you become in charge?" he demands back.
"AGAIN WITH THIS? Let's just fucking go. We have a long ass walk to do." Craig gets mad and storms off ending with, "Shit."
"You pick him up this time," the BOA soldier orders the other soldier and walks away.
The other soldier grabs The Kid with one hand by his shirt, easily lifting him off the ground. "What the…?" He does a couple of curls as he mocks, "Damn… You really do weigh like nothing."
The Kid muffles out, "Ha, ha."
After moments of walking, one of the soldiers stops and orders, "Let's stop and take five."
'The fuck? Already? We barely even walked and he wants to take a break already?' Craig sighs as he looks in the direction of where the base is. 'I just want to get back but I don't even want to deal with his bullshit.' He sits down and relaxes near a tree. "Fine," he says as he watches the soldier carrying the kid.
As the soldier drops the kid, he lets out muffled pain noises from it. He quickly rolls onto his back and looks at everyone.
Craig gives the soldier a glare.
The soldier looks at Craig and scoffs at it. "You have a problem with that?" He notices the kid squirm but then the soldier delivers a kick to him. "STAY PUT AND DON'T MOVE!"
The kid whimpers and doesn't move afterwards. His eyes darting back and forth in fear, he stops and looks at Craig.
Craig just stares back and looks away covering his eyes with his hoodie.
While relaxing with his eyes closed, he hears muffled pleas coming from the kid. Opening his eyes, he sees that one of the soldiers is throwing rocks at the kid. Craig then covers his face getting angry and tries to ignore it… but the muffled whines were finally getting to him. He looks back to the kid, and sees him staring right back… but then gets hit by another rock in the face, forcing him to close his eyes as a tear runs down his face. The whines turned to muffled sadness.
Craig… gets up… and walks towards the kid, and stands right over him.
The kid opens his eyes and looks directly into Craig's eyes.
Another rock hits the kid again.
Craig places his hand over his gun… and flicks open the release.
Another rock strikes him again.
Craig looks down towards the soldier lying on the grass.
The soldier then looks right back up to Craig and holds up a rock. He asks, "Want one?"
Craig un-holsters his gun and shoots the soldier right in the head.
The other soldier quickly gets up in shock, looking at what Craig just did.
Craig just stares back, breathing heavily in a fury, aiming his gun at him.
The soldier slowly raises up one hand as he pleads, "Craig… Craig. Don't… just… OK! OK! YOU'RE IN CHARGE! Just don't, DON'T-" he quickly goes for his gun-
Craig then fires off every last shot in rapid succession 'til his gun goes empty… but still he continues to pull on the trigger.
Craig then lets out a loud yell in frustration and points the gun at the kid. He storms to the kid, kneeling in front of him, placing the tip of the muzzle of his gun to his face making him feel the scorching heat from it hurting him.
The kid closes his eyes and whines in pain from it.
While in agony, Craig grabs the tape onto the kid's mouth, pulling it off as a painful cry comes out of him, "Aahhh oowowow!"
"SHUT UP! OKAY? JUST, FUCKING SHUT UP!" Craig shouts right back and then walks away trying to come to terms with what he just did. He sits back down, dropping his gun, and tries to calm down. He puts his hands over his face and yells into them. Once calming down he looks back, staring at the kid's eyes.
The kid stares right back at Craig. "Thank you," he says quietly but enough for him to hear.
All Craig does, is just sit there in silence.
For what felt like an eternity, Peanut watches Craig get back up to his feet. He sees Craig reach down, pick up his gun, and holster it back to his side. He heads to one of the soldier's bodies, picking up his flask and taking a drink from it… and tries to hold it in.
Craig quickly spits it out and throws the flask back at the soldier's body, as it bounces off of it. He goes back to rubbing the back of his head. He takes a couple of deep breaths as he mutters, "Okay… alright… just… okay. Nobody knows… nobody." He looks over to Peanut and turns away just standing there. "You're friend… Willard."
Peanut awkwardly looks at him. "You mean Wally."
"Whatever… He's not who you think he is."
Peanut narrows his eyes back. "I don't care."
Craig glares at his response. "You should. He's dangerous… once you really get to know him. See the real side of him."
Peanut glares back, refusing what Craig said. "I… Don't… Care. He's not mean."
Craig looks away from Peanut and just stands there, rubbing the back of his neck while looking at the two dead soldiers in concern.
Peanut watched him, wondering what he's thinking. He asks, "How do you know him?"
Noticing Craig's ears flicker from his question calming him down. He answers back without looking, "He was… he was a friend of mine." Craig then pulls out his knife and just looks at it… then faces Peanut. He begins his approach.
Peanut's eyes widened, about to panic.
Craig kneels down in front of him gritting his teeth while pointing the knife at him. "Alright, this is what we're going to do. I'm going to do three stabs."
Peanut eyes widen looking directly at the knife. "Wha, what? What do you-" Craig grabs him by his shirt and flips him onto his stomach. "Ack… wha?"
Craig stabs into his hand restraints and cuts them off. "Stab number one."
He grabs and flips him over again, then grabs his leg restraints and stabs into them, cutting them off. "Stab number two."
Craig then grabs Peanut's neck and forces him up to his feet, not letting go yet. "Now what you're going to do is walk straight that way." Craig points as Peanut looks. "ONLY STRAIGHT!" He demands startling Peanut causing him to look back to him. "And once you see a road… you go left and you follow it. You'll find someone to help you. GOT IT?"
Peanut nods wearily. "But… that was only two stabs," he corrects him.
Craig nods back. "That's right. The third one will come… if I see you again. You understand?"
Peanut nods, "I got it."
Craig releases him, pushing him away and then turns around walking away.
Peanut just stands looking at the two dead bodies and then back to Craig. "You are a good guy."
As Craig makes his way to the base… 'snap!' He hears something crack behind him once in a while. He stops and glances behind himself, looking at everything… especially bushes. He goes back to walking until he hears a car driving by. He stops as it gets louder and louder as an S.U.V. drives right by.
He hears the car hits the breaks and it comes back in reverse. One of the soldiers pulls down the window. The Commanding Officer orders, "Craig? Why are you walking around alone?"
"Everyone left me behind at the crash site. I had no choice but to walk back," he answers back. Knowing how far he still has left to walk, he wanted to ask for a ride but he knew he was being followed. He then asks, "Are you guys patrolling?"
"Yeah we are. You know the pilot that's one of Sonic's friends? He escaped."
Craig laughs, crossing his arms. "No shit?"
The officer glares at Craig and demands, "Compose yourself Craig. This isn't the time to get out of line."
Trying not to get angry from being talked down to, he uncrosses his arms and responds, "Sorry."
The commanding officer rises up from his seat upset, "Sorry… what?"
Craig takes a deep breath trying to stay calm, "Sorry… sir," he said, struggling to speak nicely.
He sits back on his seat. "That's better and to answer your question, yes, he did escape and Leader is pissed off about it. He's so mad that he shot one of the guys in the face for just asking a damn question. I'd stay away from him if I were you."
Now he knows for sure that he can't go back with that kid following him, he had to scare him to go away. He looks at the soldiers in the car and says. "Thanks for the warning but I'm still going to head back."
"You don't want a ride?" one of the soldier's asks.
"Naw, I'm good. A good nature walk is good once in a while," Craig answers back, trying not to get mad missing out on the offer.
"That's on you, but keep an eye out for the pilot," he instructs while giving the command to drive off.
"Dammit," he mutters. 'snap!' He stares right at the bush that the sound came from. He scowls at it and keeps on walking.
Paying close attention while walking… 'snap!' Craig hears yet another branch break, making him stop. He turns, knowing exactly where it came from.
Slowly, he heads to where the sound came from and he hums to himself along the way, 'Eenie…-'
He stops again near one of the bushes, 'Meenie…-
He slightly turns around, putting his back to one of the bushes- 'Miney…-'
Then quickly thrust his hand into one of them- 'Mo.' He grabs the kid by the neck, hauling him out of it.
"ACKgah!" the kid shouts, surprised by the attack.
Craig then lifts him up high and slams him to a nearby tree. He then pulls out his knife and in one quick motion, he thrust it right next to his neck, centimeters from striking him.
Craig snarls and demands, "STOP FOLLOWING ME!"
"No," the kid answers back.
"YOU DO NOT… WANT TO GO WHERE I'M GOING, SO STOP FOLLOWING ME!" Craig demands.
The kid grabs onto Craig's arm that he's being held up by, and refuses, shouting right back, "NO! I WON'T STOP! I WON'T STOP FOLLOWING YOU UNTIL I SEE WALLY AGAIN! I WON'T STOP!"
In anger, Craig begins to apply pressure onto his neck, but the kid just kept holding onto his arm despite being unable to breathe. Looking into the kid's eyes, his anger begins to fade, causing him to release. "Alright… FINE!" He points. "It's your damn fault if something happens to you."
The kid releases his arm and smiles.
Craig just turns around and walks away.
He sees Craig walk away, and smiles, victorious. But it slowly fades away, upon realizing that he can't touch the ground. "Hmm?" He looks down swinging his feet. "What… why?" He looks at the knife, still lodged into his shirt, keeping him pinned to the tree. "No… Gah.. No… Grr!" He desperately pulls on the knife. "NO! GAhh! Ahh! You are evil." He says watching Craig still walking away from him.
"What the fuck is wrong with me?" Craig mutters to himself walking back to base. 'I feel different… when I look at that kid. Less worried, less scared, less… angry. Is this what Chris went through… when he left? That's the reason why Leader wants him so badly. 'Snap!' He hears a sound behind him making him crack a smile, knowing that he's being followed again. Craig just kept on walking as he says out loud, "Your friend… umm… Walter?"
"Wal-ly!"
He hears the kid's voice somewhere behind, sounding annoyed, having to correct him with the right name. It almost causes him to laugh. He continues, "Even though… he did all of those cruel things… eventually I knew something was off. Something was now different about him."
"He became nice." Again his voice was heard somewhere behind him.
"Like I said… we were friends. We both joined BOA together, leaving everything behind. But Leader… he… corrupted us. But somehow Wal…lace?"
"Wally," the kid corrects him again, sounding less annoyed, but being more curious instead.
"He broke out of it… came to his senses. When he did, he warned me that he was going to leave. I didn't follow him. I stayed behind. I… I was weak…" He stops walking. "I've always been weak. On that night… I lost the only friend I had and I wound up being alone."
'sniff' "He's the only friend I have too." Craig hears his sad voice behind him.
Craig turns around and sees the kid standing there out in view with his shirt torn.
The kid's eyes were red filled with sadness, but was trying not to cry. "I'm also alone. I have no friends… nobody but him. He's not the person you might know… but when I'm around him… I feel like I have a big brother. He's someone that I can look up to. Someone that appreciates me. Someone that makes me feel like I'm not invisible." He wipes his nose. "I wouldn't know what I'd do… if he wasn't around anymore."
Craig stood there and just listened to him, figuring out how much he has in common with this kid. He then turns around and looks at the base. 'I have way more in common with this kid… than everyone in that damn base.' He warns again, "Last chance," as The Kid stands right next to him. "Turn away right now - 'cause what might happen in there isn't going to be pretty."
The kid shakes his head in refusal. "I know Wally is coming here. I want to be here."
They hear gunfire at a distance. Craig un-holsters his gun. "Don't say I didn't warn you."
Rewind…
Miller is at the base, mad that he isn't outside like everyone else. He's still testing and adjusting the Infinite particle bullets. "Why did I have to be the smart one around here?"
He grabs one of the bullets and puts it into a rifle. "Test number… shit… um… 82?" He sighs. "82 it is." He aims at a target fifty meters away and pulls the trigger.
He lazily looks at the target and then down to his notes putting a checkmark on it… "Wait… what?" He looks back at the target's bullseye penetrated; and throws his arms into the air in celebration. "FUCKING FINALLY!" He inserts another into the rifle and fires again. He looks at the target again with excitement. "Hell yeah. This batch actually works. IT WORKS!" He sets them to the side. He counts how many of them there are. "Twenty rounds. Now to start calibrating them to be like this and we'll be-"
Beep, Beep, Boop! An alarm goes off.
"Wha?" Worried, he frantically checks his laptop and sighs relief. "He's still there… restrained… but what caused the alarm to go off?" He scans the base, trying figure out what caused the alarm to go off. "A window broke… in the main building?" He checks and scans where the location is. "Third floor… Infirmary…? Wait… what? Who the fuck puts the infirmary on the third floor?" He sighs. "Whatever, I'm surrounded by… idiots? Oh shit… OH SHIT!" He takes out a radio. "DEAD BODY SPOTTED AT THE BASE! HEAD BACK! COME BACK TO BASE!" He alerts looking at the first floor hallway seeing a body on the floor with blood splattered to the walls and floor.
Suddenly the camera feed goes black and then a green error screen appears. "What the… he's here. The pilot is still here." He gets up, grabbing a handful of bullets and puts them into his pocket. He then leaves, grabbing his sniper rifle.
Meanwhile, Sonic, Tails, and Wally make their way towards Peanut's location. Tails keeps track of their location throughout their journey in the dense forest. He then looks at Sonic and asks in concern, "What are we going to do once we get there? I mean… how are we going to deal with Infinite if he's really there?"
Sonic rubs the back of his head. "Umm… maybe we can talk some sense into him?" He chuckles back, masking his concern.
Hearing Sonic's response and his concerned tone, Tails asks back, "And what if that doesn't work?"
Sonic stops walking and looks at the ground. "I still remember it as if it was yesterday when we fought. I punched him. I kicked him. I elbowed him and also spin dashed him. I even head-butted him. Out of all that, it barely even fazed him." He looks at Tails then looks over to Wally remembering about the warning Colbort said. He looks away and back to Tails, "I hope we made the right choice."
Tails knows what he means and just stares at him… seeing him in a way he rarely ever sees Sonic. Worried… Concerned… Scared. He had to get him out of his self-doubt. "Are you saying that you can't beat him?"
Surprised to hear it come out of Tails, "I couldn't beat him then. What makes you think I can do it now?"
Tails takes a step to him and reminds him of what he went through, "You were beaten and taken. Tortured for months, until the Resistance found you. Did you just stay in bed once you were rescued? NO! You got up and went back to face him again. And even though you were still hurting, you fought him with everything you had. YOU DID EVERYTHING YOU COULD TO STOP HIM!" Tails looks at Wally seeing him as Chris then back to Sonic. "You did whatever it took to buy enough time for everyone to do what they had to do to take Infinite down."
Sonic simply stood there and listened to him.
Tails continues, "That was then. This is now. I saw how you kept rubbing your legs when they were hurting. I haven't seen you do that for months now. I know you can beat him. You just have to know it too."
Sonic smiles and jabs him on the shoulder. "Yeah… you're right."
Tails smiles back. "Of course I'm right. I'm always right."
Sonic chuckles and before he gets a chance to say anything else he looks up and notices smoke. He points, "Is that what I think it is?"
Both Tails and Wally look, and before Tails has a chance to answer, Sonic already speeds off.
"Smoke… That has to be the air-" Before Tails can finish, Wally, in desperation, also runs past him towards it.
Tails takes flight to get through the forest quicker, and the closer he gets, the sound of gunfire gets louder and louder. Upon reaching the area, he sees the crashed aircraft and Sonic fighting off BOA soldiers. He hides watching Sonic rush back and forth disarming them, then knocks them out.
He looks for Wally and sees him fighting two soldiers. One of the soldiers was on the ground shaking his head while rubbing it, while the other was fighting Wally.
The soldier throws a right hook but not only does Wally slap the punch away, but he also grabs onto it then pulls, causing the soldier to stumble forward. Wally then begins to unleash punch after punch back to the soldier's face until he was out cold.
"Geez… does he have to fight… so aggressively?" Completely focused on how Wally is reacting, he sees him notice the other soldier trying to get back to his feet.
Wally then runs to him, delivering a kick to the side of his head. "Stay the fuck down," he threatens in anger.
'Wait… is he… is he fighting like-' Tails wondering if he really is him. "…Chris?" he asks, making sure.
He turns to face Tails. "Hmm, what Tails?"
In disappointment, he answers, "Never mind."
One of the soldiers tries to escape, but Sonic was already on him, doing a spin dash and colliding into him, sending him flying into a tree. "That was the last one," Sonic says, grabbing the last soldier. He drags him back to the rest of the soldiers that were knocked out.
Tails checks his locator seeing that it's still pointing east. "He's not here."
"But what about Zeke?" Sonic asks as he rushes into the downed aircraft. Seconds later he rushes right back out. "Zeke isn't here either."
"Both of them might be at their base?" Wally suggests.
One of the BOA soldiers wakes up. Sonic walks up to him. "Hi, mind giving us directions to your base? And no… we're not looking to join up."
Trying to get out of his restraints to not answer, "I- I… I can't. He'll kill me if I do," the BOA soldier pleads.
Wally, getting furious with his response, picks up a gun. "If something happens to Peanut then you're going to have me to worry about." He points the gun at him. "WHERE'S YOUR BASE?"
He panics from the threat. "OKAY! It's… It's straight that way."
"That way?" Tails points looking at his tracker.
"Yes, that way," he answers again.
Tails looks at his tracker and nods. "It matches. That's exactly where the signal is." He marks their current location.
Sonic smirks at the soldier. "Sit tight while we go shake up your base."
The soldier shakes his head. "You have no idea who you're dealing with. Leader of the BOA is insane. You take him lightly and he'll make you regret it."
"Pfft! I've had my fill of crazy maniacal villains. He'll be no different. I'll wipe the floor with him," Sonic answers back boldly.
The soldier looks at Sonic in disbelief and slowly shakes his head. "You really have no idea. He'll make you eat those words."
Wally grabs his head hearing those words. "Not… again. Gah!"
The soldier looks at Wally in concern.
"Don't worry. It's something he's dealing with," Sonic informs. After a while, the pain stops and Wally regains control. "Are you okay?"
Wally takes a deep breath. "The Tornado…"
"What about it?" Sonic asks.
"It belongs to you."
Sonic chuckles about the plane and looks at Tails. "Well… not really anymore. It's more Tails' than mine. He takes care of it way more than I ever do."
Tails smiles, appreciating it.
Sonic looks at the soldier. "You and your buds stay here and behave. Got it? It'll be all over before you know it."
The soldier just nods.
"Well then, let's get going and end this," Sonic says.
Everyone nods and heads off towards the BOA's base.
Trudging through the forest again, they finally reach the base. Tails looks at the tracker and sees that Peanut's signal is somewhere around the inside of the base.
"Can you get in touch with the Resistance?" Wally asks.
Tails shakes his head. "No, I can't. I was never able to, due to a jammer being around. We're on our own."
Sonic nods and takes a step forward cracking his knuckles. "Are you guys ready for this?"
Wally also takes a step forward. "I'm ready. I'm not afraid."
Tails does the same. "Yeah, let's do this."
Zeke was hiding somewhere outside at the base. Peanut and Craig also arrive at the base. With everyone approaching the BOA's base, they knew that once they entered, it was going to be a one way trip. They all take a step forward, knowing that danger is waiting for them.
End of the chapter. Thanks for Reading. Let me know how it is. I would really appreciate it.
