Hey folks! Hope you're enjoying the summer weather as we're finally in July! With a lot on the horizon for me, I'm excited to be continuing this story as we'll be hitting the adapted Season 3 content soon!
But for now, it's time we wrap up the IzuBecca Summer storyline. These two are finally in an actual relationship and are going to reach a romantic point with it from their next endeavor, a movie date! Be warned, this is actually a canon movie that they'll be watching, so there'll be some spoilers.
I think that's enough for now! Welcome back to "Through the Rough"!
THROUGH THE ROUGH
"Popcorn and drinks are all set!" Rebecca exclaimed as she made her way over to her boyfriend with a big tub of popcorn and two cups with plastic lids and straws. The couple had arrived at the local movie theater in Mustafu, with Izuku scanning the barcode on his phone to get the tickets, and his girlfriend buying them snacks and drinks for the occasion.
"Are you sure it's okay for you to pay for that?" he asked out of concern, "I mean, I feel like it's my job to—"
"Izuku, it's fine," the Leaper Quirk user assured, interjecting him, "Besides, you're basically the one paying for the tickets," she pointed out.
"That's… true, I guess…" he responded with a chuckle. His girlfriend giggled.
"Come on, let's get to our seats," she beckoned. A few minutes later, they were in the theater, finding their desired seats not too far from the large screen. The room's lights dimmed as trailers started playing.
"My mom said you'd probably love to see this…" Izuku noted quietly to Rebecca, who munched on some popcorn.
"Definitely!" she responded, "Though I wish I got to re-watch all the other movies and shows for a quick refresher…" she admitted on. Her boyfriend blinked twice.
"Uh… refresher?" he repeated in confusion.
"Oh yeah, this is like… the twenty-something movie that's a part of this cinematic universe…" the Leaper Quirk user told him, "It's actually pretty crazy how good it is…" she added excitedly. However, the One For All inheritor started to pale with fright.
"T-Twenty…?" he stuttered. Suddenly, he realized something. Over the years, he hadn't really gone to see any of those superhero films because of the fact he was either training or taking notes on that kind of life. He remembered a few of the movies he had seen, but none of them included the characters that were said to be in this movie. Quickly pulling out his phone, he scoured the internet to find as many details as he could before the lights would go out. Rebecca noticed how frantic he seemed. She reached over and grabbed his hand gently.
"Hey," she said, getting his attention, "It's okay if you don't know everything," she assured, "If you have a question, I'll lend you an ear," she promised.
"Huh…" Izuku sighed, pocketing his phone after turning it off, "Thanks…" he said with gratitude. The lights dimmed completely. And the movie started. The One For All inheritor looked over to his girlfriend, seeing the excitement build upon her face as the opening credits played. And he was excited to see her reaction to what was about to unfold.
OPENING
Insert "ODD FUTURE" by UVERworld
Opens with Izuku and Rebecca getting into lunging stances before taking off into the distance as a bright blue sky looms overhead. We see a scene of Nana Shimura holding out her gloved hand to a skinny All Might, who accepts it as a light shines between their palms. A bright light flashes across the screen.
We cut to the rest of Class 1-A running together at the campground in their P.E. clothes, with Shiki leading the way as he leaps ahead. Ochaco and Momo are staring at him from behind somewhat longingly. But once they notice each other staring at him, they blush and look away.
Elsewhere around the camp, we see Homura using her energy blades to slash down mounds of earth formed by Pixie Bob, Shoto practicing with shooting his flames from his left arm, followed by unleashing a wave of ice from his right foot, Weisz remodeling multiple machines to practice more with his Quirk, and Katsuki unleashing large explosions up into the sky. As Izuku takes a moment to catch his breath, he looks over to see Rebecca running alongside Tenya. She spots her boyfriend and shoots him a warm smile, which he returns as he blushes.
However, that happiness is shattered as the forest is engulfed in blue flames that evening, courtesy of Dabi. He's joined by Himiko, Twice, Compress, Mustard, Muscular, Moonfish, Laguna, Fie, Daichi, Maria, and Shura. The latter of the group floats up and has Ether Gear markings expand along his right arm as he aims it down at the ground, which suddenly caves in. He grins wickedly as he dives toward Shiki, who retaliates with a Gravity Fist.
We see Laguna turning to face off with Weisz, who equips into his Arsenal armor before dashing out at him. Meanwhile, Daichi emerges from the ground, joining Maria in confronting Rebecca and Kyoka, who stand back-to-back and grimace. Izuku is in battle against Muscular, lunging forward and rearing his right fist back for a full-powered punch.
The scene changes to Drakken Joe atop a roof as the wind rushes around him. He's approached by Jaguar, who stares at him indignantly. A leaf blows by, revealing a flashback of the two confronting on the same rooftop. Drakken doesn't look like he's aged a day since then.
We cut to Tomura being approached by All For One, who rests his hand onto his head gently. Several Nomu emerge behind him, ready to act on command. We get a shot of Poseidon Nero, who opens his eyes as his dice rattle in his hands. We also see Noah Glenfield, who closes a book as he approaches the desk of Nezu at U.A.
All Might arrives, landing down mightily to confront All For One, roaring as his eyes glare onto his foe. There are several shots of Mirko, Endeavor, Justice, Holy, Eraser, Feather, Cure, Jaguar, Edgeshot, Kamui Woods, Gang Orca, and Eraser Head, with all of them battling against enemy forces.
We end on Izuku and Rebecca standing up alongside All Might, staring out determinedly towards the horizon, ready to go and save the world.
END OPENING
The movie started with what Izuku assumed was the protagonist character running alongside a young girl with a denim jacket decorated with white stars like an American flag. They were in a strange dimension, running away from a demonic, mummy-like creature. Immediately, the freckled teen felt lost.
However, he decided not to ask a question just yet, trying not to annoy his girlfriend about every little detail. The two characters fleeing from the monster were after a book at the center of the space they were within, called the Book of Vishanti. They were getting close to it, but the creature was finding a way to catch up to them, to the point where it was a struggle for the protagonist to hold it back. He looked to the young girl with him, having a look of realization upon his face.
"This is the only way…" he said. He then started to take the girl's power for himself, much to Izuku's surprise. Even as he said that it was for her own good since she couldn't control her power, the One For All inheritor was baffled by the idea of making such a sacrifice.
Fortunately, the protagonist didn't take her power and end up killing her, as the demonic creature broke free and killed him. The girl then tried to get the book herself, but the creature captured her. She screamed, suddenly creating a star-shaped portal that she found herself sucked, along with the corpse of the protagonist. And then… the scene cut to the main character waking up shirtless in bed.
"Huh?" Izuku uttered in confusion. Surely that couldn't have just all been a dream… could it? Then he remembered the title, realizing that it was a multiverse movie. So there were likely multiple versions of the title character. Rebecca looked over and giggled at his expression of intrigue.
The title character, Stephen Strange, got himself dressed up to go to a wedding. Some dialogue occurred that the One For All inheritor didn't fully understand, but he saw the regret in the sorcerer's eyes when people asked him about his decisions. It was especially apparent when he saw the leading lady, Christine, being married to someone else.
"So… were they a thing in another movie?" Izuku asked quietly of his girlfriend.
"Uh… kinda…" she responded as they listened to them talk about how their lives were going, "It was sorta vague where they were going with them…" she noted. From how it looked to the freckled teen, Stephen was just putting on a brave face. He didn't seem happy. Then, there was trouble occurring.
The sorcerer suited up as he pulled out his cloak and jumped from the balcony, using magic to change into his costume. Izuku's eyes sparkled, while Rebecca giggled. They watched as he used his powers to save a fleeing woman and her baby from a tumbling car, summoning a monster to chomp the vehicle in order to move it away in time.
As he arrived on the scene, he saw the young girl he apparently dreamt about fleeing from something invisible, hurrying onto a bus that was lifted into the air. Using his magic, he unveiled that the invisible being was a one-eyed tentacle monster. The Leaper Quirk user shuddered.
"You okay?" her boyfriend asked in concern.
"Just… not good with tentacles, you know?" she responded as a drop of sweat rolled down her head. They watched as Stephen saved the girl from the creature, trying to keep it away from her. However, he was promptly knocked out by it upon remembering the girl as the one in his dream.
The girl ran from the rampaging creature. It tried to get her again, but she was saved by another character that Izuku remembered seeing from the promotional material. The man known as Wong fought off the beast, though he too was struggling. The One For All inheritor was a little unnerved by the battle, especially concerning the CGI elements of the creature not meshing well with the human characters that it captured.
The battle continued up to the point where Stephen had recovered to join Wong, helping him fend off the creature and keeping it away from the girl. Ultimately, the American sorcerer had his cloak blind the creature before killing it with a lamppost, having it pierce through its eye and yank it right out. Izuku's cheeks puffed out at the sight.
"Ooh…" Rebecca uttered in disgust. Fortunately, with the monster dead, there was time for the two sorcerers to get acquainted with the young girl, who introduced herself as America. There was a bit of banter exchanged at a pizza shop between them, along with discovering the situation in regards to the multiverse and why the girl was being hunted.
"So… the monsters are after her power?" the One For All inheritor assumed.
"Looks like it," his girlfriend quietly replied, taking a sip of her soda.
"But… why?" Izuku asked. His question was answered when another character was introduced, being Wanda. At first, it seemed like she was a happy mother of two twin boys. But then, the music stopped as she abruptly woke up in her bed.
The freckled teen noticed Rebecca tense up a little. She apparently had an attachment to this character in particular. As it turned out, Stephen was going to Wanda for help in protecting America from the evil forces after her. But little did he know that she was actually the one who had sent them until she slipped and revealed her true intentions.
She wanted America's power for herself, unveiling the illusory world around her to reveal that it was a bleak environment she was in. She also had possession of a book called the Darkhold, which already sounded evil in Izuku's mind. It was what she read from in order to enhance her magic. What she wanted was the chance to have her twin boys that she had dreamt about. Even as Stephen argued that it was unethical to steal away her children from another world, she persisted, citing his own hypocrisies for doing things he shouldn't as well.
"You break the rules and become a hero," she said as she approached him, "I do it and I become the enemy," she pointed out, "That doesn't seem fair…" she whispered. Chills went up Izuku's spine. Whoever the actress playing her was, she was doing a phenomenal job with how scary she was making the character.
The next scene featured the sorcerers at the sanctuary known as Kamar-Taj preparing for Wanda's arrival along with Stephen and Wong, all to protect America. From what the freckled teen saw, the witch was incredibly powerful. In fact, too powerful for the army of sorcerers to stop. Eventually, she managed to make it to her target.
But in the wake of her potential victory, America accidentally opened a portal that she and Stephen flew through, going through multiple universes before arriving in one where they were atop a grassy roof. Izuku heard Rebecca sigh with relief. There had been a lot of tension during those earlier scenes.
"You okay?" the One For All inheritor asked, holding her left hand to get her attention.
"Yeah, I'm good…" she assured in response, "Popcorn?" she offered.
"Thanks," her boyfriend replied, taking a handful of the snack and having one piece at a time before drinking his soda. Wanda attempted to go after Stephen and America by using a forbidden magic known as dream-walking, which was essentially her transferring her consciousness to a version of herself in another universe, taking over their body. When she performed the spell, she was distracted by the sight of her twin boys she always dreamt about.
They were so adorable and full of life. And that was ripped away from her again as another sorcerer destroyed the Darkhold, rupturing the spell and bringing her consciousness back to her reality. There was a sense of relief that she wouldn't be able to get to Stephen and America now, but as she threatened Wong and the other sorcerers with their lives at stake, she learned of a place where another could be forged.
"Oh come on…" Rebecca groaned nervously. Izuku grimaced. It sounded like she wasn't enthusiastic about where the story was heading. And if she didn't like it… well…
The next scene featured Stephen and America trekking through the new universe they visited. There was some comedy, along with a few interesting tidbits. One was when the two characters arrived at what was dubbed a memory store, allowing people to look into their memories.
Stephen's was one of when he received his watch from Christine, something that Izuku remembered was broken when he first saw it at the beginning of the movie when he was getting dressed for the wedding. Meanwhile, America's memory was one of when she lost her both of her mothers because of her powers. The sorcerer reassured her that they likely survived if they were anything like her.
"Kinda weird how they did that…" Rebecca admitted, sipping her soda.
"Yeah…" Izuku agreed. Nonetheless, it was a touching moment. More scenes went on, with Stephen and America being taken in by the Sorcerer Supreme of the universe, Mordo, Wanda and Wong arriving in a place called Wundagore to obtain a new Darkhold, and the reveal of the group who was the dominant hero force in the specific universe.
"Oh my gosh!" the Leaper Quirk user exclaimed upon seeing a few of the characters. Reed Richards in particular got her excited, along with Charles Xavier. Izuku was glad that she was enjoying herself. And truth be told, he was too. He would probably enjoy things more if he understood the other movies that occurred before this one, but he didn't mind. It was a nice experience with his girlfriend.
X
"A-Ah…" Rebecca stammered out in disbelief, almost dropping the bucket of popcorn. So much had happened. For one, Wanda successfully completed another dream-walk, entering the conscious of her counterpart in the universe where America was. She arrived at the Illuminati's headquarters, taking out their forces with ease.
Izuku thought she was covered in blood, but it was actually oil that stained her clothes. That didn't make her any less horrifying, especially as she eliminated Illuminati members one by one. The One For All inheritor actually grimaced at the brutality shown, especially with one character's death by his own power redirected back at him.
He looked at his girlfriend, seeing how stunned she was about the current scene being set up. Meanwhile, Stephen had fought against Mordo before managing to escape. He reunited with America and the Christine of the universe they were in, running away from Wanda while also trying to get the Book of Vishanti in order to fight her, needing to cross into another dimension.
At one point, there was a brief pause during the chase scene, as it seemed like the group had gotten away from Wanda. But she popped up soon after, resulting not only in America screaming in terror on screen, but also Rebecca letting out a yelp as she flinched.
"A-Are you okay?" her boyfriend asked out of concern.
"Yeah…" she assured, "Just got… jumped a little…" she admitted sheepishly with a chuckle. As the movie continued, the group seemingly had gotten ahold of the book they were looking for. But Wanda immediately destroyed any hope of stopping her by not only taking America back, but also destroying the book. She also used the girl's power to send Stephen and Christine into another universe, preventing them from stopping her.
"So… does Wanda win?" Izuku inquired in a whisper.
"I don't know…" Rebecca responded, shaking her head a little. The new universe that Stephen and Christine had ended up in was one where everything was being destroyed around them, reduced to ashes. All except the sanctum where the universe's Stephen Strange resided. In this universe, Stephen had used the Darkhold in his efforts to retain his happiness, but it corrupted and left him as an empty soul that longed for what he wanted, all while destroying everything else.
"Are you happy?" he asked of his counterpart. That line intrigued Izuku as he thought back to the beginning of the film. The main character, from what he remembered, didn't seem happy. He was just putting on a brave face while watching the woman he loved marry someone else.
Regardless, Stephen needed the Darkhold in order to have a chance to fight back against Wanda. He and his evil counterpart fought for it, resulting in what the One For All inheritor thought was a really creative battle involving music. The evil Stephen ended up killed, shot out from his window and impaled by the metal fence around the sanctum. Christine went over to him, screaming in fright as his third eye suddenly opened. Rebecca shivered again.
The climax of the film was fast approaching, with Stephen now resorting to dream-walking himself. Only his was a little different. He had to use the corpse of the deceased Stephen from the start of the movie. And it was definitely a horrifying sight to the couple as they saw his essentially rise from the dead.
It was even more crazy when he went to Wundagore and ended up being attacked by the souls of the damned. Forutnately, Christine was there to provide support, reassuring him that he was strong. He ultimately managed to get the souls under his control, using them as a cape to fly up to the mountain and confront Wanda.
"This time it's going to take more than killing me to kill me…" he remarked to her. That earned an eyebrow raise from Christine back in the other universe. Izuku and Rebecca laughed a little.
They watched the battle continue, with Stephen using the wicked souls to entrap Wanda, with Wong helping her. The Sorcerer Supreme then pleaded for Stephen to go and take America's power so that it didn't fall into the wrong hands. It seemed as if it was the only thing to do, considering that she didn't have control over her abilities.
"This is the only way…" Stephen affirmed. But surprisingly, he had another idea in mind. After freeing America, he assured to her that she could fight with her power and that she had control of it all along, even during the times where it seemed like she inadvertently opened a portal.
In the meantime, Wanda freed herself, coming to finish the job. But she was left surprised as America attacked, resulting in a star-shaped shockwave that echoed through the mountain. With confidence in herself restored, she fought back against the Scarlet Witch. Unfortunately, she wasn't powerful enough to defeat her, so she decided to give her what she wanted.
Punching another portal open, she brought Wanda to the universe where her twin boys were. And they were frightened to see her. Their own mother tried to protect them, only for the Scarlet Witch to start hurting her instead.
However, that only made her worse in the eyes of the twin boys, who saw her as a monster. She tried persuading them that she wasn't, but with what she had done, there was no way to salvage her relationship with the boys, who weren't even her children. She fell to her knees and cried in anguish and guilt.
Izuku looked over and noticed Rebecca tearing up a little. This was an emotional scene. And the actress was really doing her best from his point of view. He watched as her counterpart went up to her, assuring her that the twins would be loved.
Afterwards, Wanda decided to destroy the temple in order to never be tempted by the Darkhold again. Her power allowed her to destroy the evil book in every universe. And it was unclear if she had made it out from the chaotic scene. As the movie was winding down, the couple watched as Stephen and Christine went ahead to say their goodbyes. And then, the sorcerer did something unexpected…
"I love you," he said, "I love you in every universe…" he confessed on to the counterpart of the woman he loved. Hearing that was very profound to Izuku, especially since it wasn't to the Christine of his universe. He realized that he couldn't be with her because of his responsibilities as a sorcerer helping protect the world.
After a few more scenes following that, the movie reached the credits. A sigh left the One For All inheritor's lips. The whole movie made him feel really tense in his seat. He wished he understood more about the characters, perhaps from an earlier movie or show that was released like his girlfriend had mentioned. He looked over to see her still in her seat, eyes focused on the screen. There were two other scenes after the credits. One was meant to set up a future conflict, while another was referring to an earlier gag in the movie. The couple laughed, standing up from their seats.
"That was fun!" Rebecca exclaimed, making sure her soda was finished as she ventured out to the exit, with her boyfriend to follow.
"Yeah…" he agreed, "I kinda got lost at a few parts though…" he admitted, sheepishly scratching at his right cheek.
"That's okay," the Leaper Quirk user assured, throwing out the empty popcorn bucket and soda cups into the trash, "I was a bit surprised by a few things myself…" she confessed. Izuku smiled. They then headed off, grabbing a quick dinner on the way. Rebecca munched on her burger contently, licking her lips.
Her boyfriend looked at her warmly before eating his own sandwich. The movie was a good experience for him. It showed him just how invested in the series that his girlfriend was.
"Hey…" he uttered, getting her attention as she was taking a bite of her food again, "you think we could see those other movies sometime?" he inquired of her.
"Yeah!" she muffled out in response as she chewed her burger, swallowing after a moment, "Witch gave me access to a streaming service that has almost all those movies for us to watch whenever," she told him, "There're a few that aren't there, but I've got DVDs for 'em," she mentioned, "We can start a movie night tradition on weekends!" she suggested with a giggle.
"That sounds great!" the One For All inheritor replied as he smiled. The two continued onward, finishing their food as they were nearing their respective homes.
"Huh…" Rebecca sighed out, looking up at the stars, "That movie was so much fun…" she admitted, "I just wish it was a little longer…" she added in confession.
"It had some really great acting though," her boyfriend chimed in, "The CGI looked off at some points…" he mentioned.
"Yeah, you're right," the Leaper Quirk user agreed, "Still, it was great with what they had available to work with," she pointed out, "All those great, memorable moments…" she recalled, "And one of those last scenes with Stephen and Christine was great!" she remembered additionally, "It was really the perfect way to sum up their relationship…" she noted.
"Yeah…" Izuku responded. He looked at his girlfriend longingly, thinking about how supportive she had been all throughout his life. From when they first met to now, she was always on his side. And now after all this time, they were starting another chapter as more than just friends. "I love you… in every universe…" he said. Rebecca glanced over at him in surprise for a second.
"That was a really great line," she recalled, giving off a smile. Her boyfriend blushed. She didn't realize that he wasn't just quoting, but actually confessing his feelings. However, he just smiled.
"Yeah, it was," he agreed. The couple then arrived at the door to the Leaper Quirk user's apartment. She turned to her boyfriend.
"Thanks for the movie, Izuku," she said with gratitude, taking a step forward and planting a kiss onto his cheek.
"No problem," he replied, "We'll definitely do it again once summer camp's over," he decided.
"Definitely!" Rebecca agreed, opening her door, "Well… see you tomorrow!" she yelled in farewell. Izuku waved goodbye to her as he headed down the stairs, walking off to his apartment. He stopped for a moment, looking back at his girlfriend's current home.
Part of him started to think more about the movie they had seen, along with how it reflected his life somewhat. Could the fact that he had One For All put the Leaper Quirk user in danger? He clenched his scarred right fist determinedly. Even if that was true, he would do his best to protect her. Because she was the girl he loved… in every universe.
