Several months had passed, and Norman was becoming far more aggressive in overextending his authority over the Superhuman Registration Act. He was quite aggravated because the records were deleted, which meant Norman no longer had any access to the information recorded about heroes after it was implemented.

Additionally, he was caught on live television attacking Tony Stark, who wasn't fighting back. It got worse when it was discovered that Tony was brain-damaged, showing the world just how brutal and unstable Norman actually was.

The New Avengers also tricked Osborn by allowing him to capture Luke so that he could place a tracking device on him. Thanks to Peter sharing its location, he easily removed the tracking device and placed it at Norman's summer villa, and as a result, he ended up blowing up his own house.

"Norman is really going off the rails," said MJ as they made their way to their new apartment.

"He's losing control, and there's one thing Norman hates losing control," said Peter, who was currently carrying May on his shoulders.

"But why is he in charge of everything, Daddy, if he is a bad man?" May asked.

"That's because he's tricked everyone into thinking he's a good man; we're just showing the world what he truly is," Peter explained. He then placed her down once they reached the apartment building. "Now, are you excited to see your new home?"

May nodded excitedly.

Their new home was a penthouse, similar to the one they had before Peter and MJ's marriage, which had been on the rocks.

"It's so big!" May cried excitedly as she ran around the place.

"Don't run, May; we don't want you to hurt yourself," said MJ, smiling.

"Sorry, Mommy," May apologised.

MJ bent down and smiled at her. "Now you understand. In a few days, I'll be gone for quite some time. Until I get back, you'll be good to daddy. Do you understand?"

May nodded. "I'll be good, I promise. But I wish you didn't have to go, Mommy."

MJ hugged her. "I promise that I'll call you every day."

That night, they had a housewarming party inviting all their friends, sadly including Jonah.

"Nice place you got here, Parker," said Jonah.

"Thanks, hopefully we'll be able to keep it this time," Peter sighed.

"I understand you haven't got a job yet," said Jonah.

"Well, a lot has happened the past year, making it difficult to get a job," said Peter. "MJ will be heading to Los Angeles in a few days to participate in a new up-and-coming movie. And May isn't comfortable with her mother leaving."

"Can't say I blame the kid," said Jonah. "Still can't believe that Osborn is not paying these crimes. I mean that brutal attack on Tony Stark. You know how critical I am about superheroes, but at least none of them went that far, not even Spider-Man."

"That has to be the nicest thing you've ever said about the man," Peter smirked.

"I don't know what you're talking about," Jonah huffed.

Flash then walked up and placed an arm around Peter's shoulder. "Got to say your daughter is a cutie. She clearly gets her looks from her mother."

"I'm certainly not going to argue with that," said Peter.

He saw that May was with MJ as they talked to Felicia. He thought Felicia was telling May that she used to date him.

Peter then turned his eyes to Flash. "So, how are things between you and Felicia?"

"Pretty sweet; I'm half thinking about proposing to her," he smiled.

"Didn't realise you were willing to go that far?" said Peter. "But why have you popped the question yet?"

"The truth is I've just joined the Army and will be moving out very soon," Flash explained. "Seems a little insensitive proposing to her and then heading overseas to fight in a war."

"Well, well, look who has grown up and suddenly become mature," Peter smirked.

Flash shrugged. "What can I say, a little of you have brushed off on me?"

Peter continued to mingle with the other guests and then went over to Harry, who didn't seem to be in a party mood.

"You look cheerful," said Pete, walking up to him.

"Sorry, Pete," Harry apologised. "Lily has just been released from prison."

"Is another good thing?" Peter frowned.

"Except she came to me in her Menace form and told me she has moved on," he explained.

"Oh," Peter winced. "Sorry to hear that, man."

"It gets worse," said Harry darkly. "I think somehow my father is responsible for the early release and is starting a relationship with him. I warned her that my father would only use and then discard her, but she won't listen."

"The Osborn legacy strikes again," Peter sighed. "Here, I thought I had problems with my Parker luck."

"Tell me about it," said Harry. He then looked around to make sure they weren't being overheard. "I heard you and the Avengers are putting my father on the hotfoot."

"We're doing everything we can to undermine him," said Peter. "Fortunately, he makes it easy for us."

"Well, if you need help, don't hesitate to ask."

"I'll keep that in mind, but I would love to stay out of it."

"They appreciate the concern, Pete, but I'm starting to think it's time for me to stand up to my father."

"Just try not to get yourself killed in the process," said Peter and his eyes turned to Liz, who was currently talking to MJ while May seemed to be chatting with Normie. "Trust me when I say this: there's nothing more painful than a child losing his parents."

Harry nodded. "I know."

MJ was talking to Liz and noticed her gaze falling on Harry.

"Guess you heard about his engagement," MJ assumed.

"Yes, and at first I was happy that he was moving on, but then it turns out he was engaged to the terrorist Meance, who was yet another victim of the Osborn legacy."

"Part of me thinks that Harry is the victim; after all, it all started because of his father," said MJ.

Liz nodded. "I know it's hard to convince Normie that his grandfather is a wolf in sheep's clothing."

It was at that moment they heard squabbling between May and Normie.

"He is not!" May snapped.

"Is to!" Normie yelled.

This squabbling started drawing attention, and MJ and Liz quickly ran up to their children.

"What are you two squabbling about?" MJ asked.

"He says Spider-Man is a bad man!" May complained.

"But he is," said Normie.

"Normie, we talked about this," said Liz, gently kneeling towards him. "Spider-Man was only trying to help your father."

"But he failed," said Normie.

"Sometimes heroes cannot save everyone, but that doesn't make them bad."

"But it was because of Spider-Man that May was separated from her parents," Normie pointed out. "And yet all of the blame goes on my grandpa."

"Your grandfather is not innocent; he was the one responsible for kidnapping May, and it was only because her father is friends with Spider-Man."

"But why is Uncle Peter friends with Spider-Man?" Normie asked, confused.

"Let's say they became friends because they're somewhat alike," Liz explained, then looked up at MJ. "I'm truly sorry about this MJ, but I think it's time for me and Normie to leave."

"That's quite all right, Liz," MJ sighed.

They then watched as Liz and Normie left.

"That Normie kid is weird?" May huffed.

"May, that's not nice," said MJ. "I will admit that Normie is an unusual child, but mostly down to his grandfather. He has a hard time accepting that his grandfather is a villain, but I'm sure he will realise this one day."

Things began to get even weirder as J Jonah Jameson suddenly became mayor of New York City. Strangely, here's father, J Jonah Jameson Sr, was not as radical as his son and tried to convince him to cease animosity with Spider-Man, pointing out that he was respected by both the Avengers and Captain America.

These also tried to establish a truce with him, but it fell on deaf ears, and he began creating an Anti-Spider Squad to capture him. Peter responded by increasing his superhero work, committing heroic deeds, or crossing the city, which only aggravated Jonah. In response, Jonah put his squad on double shifts, which strained the city council's budget.

"Honestly, Peter, you should really aggravate them, the man," said MJ as they made their way to the airport.

"Hey, I did try to talk it out to him, and this is how he responded," Peter shrugged.

"How did the shouting man become there in the first place?" May asked as she grabbed hold of her parents' hands.

"A good question, and I will probably remain a mystery to the ages," Peter chuckled.

MJ then bent down and looked at May. "Now, May you promise to be good, right?"

"I promise, Mommy," said May and then sniffed. "But do you have to go?"

MJ smiled. "I'm afraid so hotshot, but I'll be back before you know it. In the meantime, I'll call you every day, I promise."

May hugged her so tired that Peter feared she would never let go. Eventually, she freed her mother, and they watched as she boarded the plane. Peter could tell that May was missing her mother.

"What say we go get some ice cream?" Peter smiled.

A few minutes later, they were sitting on a bench having ice cream in Central Park.

"How long will Mommy be gone?" May asked.

"A few months, but she will definitely be back in time for grandma's wedding; she is, after all, the maid of honour," said Peter. "And you're going to be one beautiful flower girl."

"I don't like dresses," May complained.

They noticed that May was a bit more of a tomboy and refused to wear any dress. She also preferred to have a pixie cut rather than long hair, and she most certainly didn't like MJ's choice of clothes.

"Now, May we discuss this? You have to wear a dress for the wedding," said Peter gently. "And it's only for one day."

"I know," May frowned.

Peter wished he could spend more time with May but was rather busy. He decided to take Gwen's advice and try to start his own business. He had the money to rent a place to use as a base of operations, but finding help and investment was the issue.

Plus, he had to help the Avengers deal with Norman and his Dark Avengers, which was rather time-consuming. Harry informed Peter that Norman wanted him to join his Avengers as American Son, but he only went through with it to help Lily.

Lily was pregnant with his child, but there were a few problems. Peter remembered Gabriel and Sarah's genetic problems, and he agreed with Harry that finding a cure for the child was a necessity.

"I can't thank you enough for going through with this, Pete," said Harry.

"That's what friends are for," Peter smiled. "Plus, the Avengers want someone on the inside to find out Norman's next move."

"Do birds one stone, huh?" Harry smirked.

"That's the long and short of it," Peter nodded.

"How are you going to get in?" Harry asked curiously. "My father's amps up security since the last time the Avengers broke in."

"We're going to pour Trojan horse or should I say spider," Peter smirked.

Getting inside was rather simple; Peter just switched spots with Mac Gargan. With the aid of Sue Richards, they were able to capture him as he visited a stripper. Then, using unstable molecules, he disguised himself as Gargan. He was also grateful that he helped MJ rehearse her lines a few times because he needed to be a good actor.

He was able to infiltrate when he made contact with Harry, who was wearing armour similar to Norman's. Unfortunately, Peter was soon discovered by Logan's son, Daken, who was pretending to be him. Unfortunately, he had his father's sense of smell and soon discovered he was an impostor.

Moments later, Peter found himself restrained, but thankfully, unstable molecules made it impossible for them to remove his mask.

"It's only a matter of time until we remove that mask," said Norman, smiling. "All you're doing is delaying the inevitable and prolonging your suffering."

"Since when do you care about my well-being?" Peter asked.

"I don't; I'm actually enjoying it," said Norman, smiling fiendishly.

"You know, it would be easier if I could just cut his head off," said Bullseye.

"Bullseye, if you hadn't noticed, I shot him in point-blank range. I don't really care if he's alive or not," said Norman. "However, these unstable molecules are protecting him, and until they are removed, we can't really do much."

"Well, you have to wait much longer; in about 10 minutes, you will finally know who is behind the mask," said Bullseye.

"So all this was just to get me here?" said Peter. "I suppose I should be flattered."

"I am curious as to why you are so interested in my son," said Norman.

"A favour from Parker. You kidnapping his daughter; after all, you only targeted his family because he's an associate with me."

"And yet he was quick to sell you out for woman," said Norman.

"You mean Lily?"

"Yes, personally, she's too good for him, but so long as it keeps him close, I don't care.

"While you care so much about Lily?" Peter asked.

"Because I sent her, of course," Norman smirked. "I've never had much care for love myself, but there's no denying it is quite a motivator. I had originally hoped they would settle down and join the family business. However, your intervention steamrolled that idea. Tell me everything for my son?"

Bullseye snickered.

"As I told you before, I'm here as a favour for Parker," said Peter. "Besides, I can't tell you how many girls have fallen for me; it must be the mask. But what I don't understand is why you can't leave your son to his own devices. Let him live his own life."

"Simple, my son is a screwup," said Norman as he raised his gauntlets at him. "Under my guidance, he would become a national hero fighting alongside the Avengers. He would do it all for his beloved, undoubtedly hoping that someday you would be able to free Lily from my clutches. However, if all this 'sobriety' has gone, order his head out to commence with Plan B and turn them into a martyr."

"What?!" Peter stared.

"Nothing gained popular support in tragedy. Just look at Parker," said Norman. "Despite all my heroics, my popularity seems to fall, but if American Son should fall, I, clad in righteous fury, will be able to do anything I please.

"You would kill your only son for popularity?" said Peter, disgusted.

"Is he?" Norman smirked.

Peter's eyes widened when the realisation hit him. "Lily… she's carrying your child."

"Indeed, and I'll ensure that he's raised properly and becomes my true heir," said Norman.

Peter knew too well that Norman was a heartless snake before becoming the Green Goblin, but this was a new low. He never dreamed that he would kill his own son and manipulate him in such a manner.

"You sick son of a…" Peter glared.

"And that's the end of our chat," Norman grinned. "I just wanted you to know how fruitless your life has been. Now," He aimed the gauntlet straight in his face and began to charge it, "give us a smile."

"Okay," said Peter, using all his strength to break out of his restraints and then grabbing his face. "Smile."

He then showed Norman straight into Bullseye, causing them to collapse. Peter was actually grateful that Norman had made him so angry; it was that anger that gave him the strength to free himself.

However, he knew anger would burn quickly, so he took out Bullseye. Unfortunately, he could feel his strength fading away from all the beating he had taken earlier. Sadly, Norman was only dazed and quickly pounced on him, beating him even more.

"I'm glad you're putting up a fight," said Norman furiously. "In the end, it makes all this the more sweeter. Your death is not going to be a pleasant one because you touched me. Because you meddle with my son. Because you didn't know your place.

Don't worry, you won't die alone because after I'm done with you, your family will be next and will join you. I will do things to them that have not been seen since the Spanish Inquisition. And as they scream and bleed and dance for me, I will whisper all your suffering is because of him."

Norman was now beginning to remove his mask, but then suddenly, he was shot in the back and was sent flying backwards. Peter looked up and saw Harry standing there. He watched as his arm began to attach to his body.

"Looks like I got here just in time," he said.

Peter could barely stay conscious as he watched Harry battle with his father, who was wearing his Iron Patriot armour. It was clear from Harry's expression that he knew what his father had done, and he was now taking all his frustration upon him.

"Everything you did to get me here was just to bait him and kill him?" Harry yelled.

"Everything I did?" Norman spat. "I offered you a chance at a remarkable life. A great purpose. That's what a father does for his son." He then blasted Harry with a repulse blast, crashing into a tank.

"I won't deny that I saw an opportunity to eliminate the insect as well," Norman admitted. "But I had assumed that you wanted him as dead as I did. He's taken so much from us, Harry. He's the one heck that has driven a wedge between us. He deserved everything that I gave him and much more. I assume when you handed him over a silver platter that you wanted this as well."

"That's your favourite excuse for everything," said Harry, glaring at him. "You blame every single misfortune that happens to us on Spider-Man, and you don't just take it out on him but everyone adjacent to him."

"I'm simply making him suffer."

"And in the process, ruined everyone's lives," Harry spat. "Gwen's death, me and Liz getting divorced, kidnapping Peter's daughter. Then, top it all off, you got my girlfriend pregnant and had her believe that it was mine."

"Well, son, now that you said it out loud, you have to admit it's rather hilarious," said Norman.

"Freaking hilarious, Dad," said Harry and then blasted him with his repulser at full blast.

He hit so hard that he went straight through several walls before falling outside the tower.

Harry then quickly ran up to Peter and helped him up. "You okay, buddy?"

"Just peachy," said Peter, still a little woozy.

"Sorry for leaving you hanging; it took a little longer to get the antidote for Lily than I expected," Harry apologised. "And after I go for all the trouble, she refuses to take it, then tells me she's carrying my baby brother."

"Yeah, Norman told me the same thing," Peter nodded.

"There they are!" said a voice.

They looked up and saw Ben swinging into the lab, followed closely by Gwen. Peter had asked them to stay on standby and monitor the situation, only to jump in if it seemed dire.

"You know we were just about to jump when Norman came flying out of the building," said Ben, pointing to the giant hole in the wall.

"We saw Lily flying after him on her glider," said Gwen. "I take it things don't go according to plan."

"It's a long story, and we can fill you in later," said Peter.

"Take him," said Harry, giving Peter to Gwen. "I'm going to have worked with my father."

He then took off chasing after his father.

"We have to go after him," said Peter.

"Ghost, you stay here and look after him. I'll back Harry up," said Ben.

Ben then swung down to Central Park, where he saw Harry fighting not only Norman but also Lily. He had no idea what had happened, but he had a seeking suspicion he didn't really want to find out.

"Mind if I cut in," said Ben, pulling Lily back.

"This is a family matter!" Lily spat, launching her glider at him.

Ben dodged the attack and quickly fired some webbing at her feet, sticking her to the glider. Then, with one good punch, he damaged the thruster, causing her to crash to the ground.

He then turned and saw that Harry had overpowered his father, who was now standing over him, wielding a holographic shield.

"To say that I'm no longer your son, but it looks as if I was never your son, to begin with," said Harry, narrowing his eyes at his father.

He then raised his arm, looking as if he was about to stab him.

"Harry, don't!" a voice yelled.

Ben turned and saw Peter and Gwen had arrived. Gwen supports Peter, and they look at Harry in shock.

"How can you, of all people, not want him dead," said Harry, not looking at him. "After everything he's done to you?"

"You're right. He's a nasty piece of work, but this is exactly what he wants," said Peter. "If you kill him now, he will become exactly the son he wants. Don't become him; don't let it destroy everything you've built."

Norman laughed. "Everything he's 'built'? A failing coffee shop and a few months of half-asses 'sobriety?' You have very low standards."

Peter ignored him. "You're not your father, Harry. Don't let him dictate your life. It's your choice."

Harry looked at his father, and for a brief moment, everyone thought he was going to do it, but instead, he lowered his arms and removed his armour.

"Goodbye, Norman," he said as he walked off. "Enjoy your new family."
