Peter woke up the next morning with a splitting headache. He looked around, taking note of his surroundings, and found that he was in bed. He felt moved in next to him and turned to see MJ, completely naked under the sheets, sleeping next to him.
He placed a hand over his head as he tried to remember what happened last night, and that's when you remember the wedding. The party continued long after midnight, and he remembered May being tuckered out.
Thanks to his metabolism, alcohol really didn't have that much effect on him, so he was able to drive everyone home. MJ, on the other hand, had been completely drunk and, judging how sore he was from his lower half, they must've had a wild night.
Peter was tempted to wake MJ up but decided against it. Instead, he brushed her hair behind her ear and kissed her before getting changed.
When he entered the living room, he found that May was already wide awake and sitting at the table.
"Morning, pumpkin," he said, kissing her.
"Hello, Daddy," she smiled. "Where's Mommy?"
"Oh, she's still rather exhausted from last night," Peter smiled.
"And from what I heard, you had an exhausting night," said a voice.
Peter spun around and was surprised to see Gwen, who had already made breakfast.
"Gwen, what are you doing here?" Peter blinked.
Gwen smiled. "I guess you don't remember much about what happened last night. I was concerned with you and MJ and decided to tag along to fulfil my role as godmother."
"What were you and Mommy doing last night?" May asked, tilting her head. "Auntie Gwen just told me it was grown-up stuff."
Peter suddenly felt his face turning bright pink, never in his wildest dreams and the other, for he would be explaining sex to his daughter.
"That's right, and you're too young to know about that stuff yet," he said somewhat awkwardly.
Gwen's merge clearly was enjoying Peter's awkwardness with his daughter.
"Don't worry, sweetheart, you'll find out all this means someday," Gwen assured her. She then looked at Peter. "There's plenty of coffee in the pot if you need some."
"And boy, do I need it," said Peter, making his way to the coffee pot and pulling himself some.
"I take it that you and Harry have the day off from work," Gwen assumed.
"We both agree that we might not be up to doing some work the day after the wedding," Peter nodded.
"Does that mean you and Mommy can spend the entire day with me?" May asked excitedly.
"You bet, pumpkin," Peter smiled as he sat down and ate his bacon and eggs. "Though I'm afraid your mother might be out of commission for a while. What she's told me is she often slept very late every time she went out for a party."
"That's our party girl," Gwen chuckled.
"Daddy, how did you meet Mommy?" May asked.
"Well, both your grandma and your Aunt Anna tried to arrange a date between us ever since we were in high school," Peter explained. "Unfortunately, my job as Spider-Man meant that I missed our scheduled blind date. Then, a few years later, I met her and was completely stunned."
"Why were you so stunned, Daddy?"
"Well, I was only told she had a great personality, and I've never really liked blind dates."
"Could have fooled me when I first saw you with her," Gwen smirked. "We were all shocked when we first laid eyes on her."
"So, did you both fall in love with each other at first sight?" May asked excitedly.
"Uh, no, I wouldn't say that," said Peter. "You see, your mother was still uneasy about dating a superhero; I had no idea she knew who I was at the time. She put this condescending facade on and began dating your Uncle Harry."
"Which let Peter fall into my arms," said Gwen.
"You were in love with Daddy Auntie Gwen?" said May, surprised.
"I was, but unlike MJ, I didn't know who your father was," said Gwen. "Then we will more or less torn apart by Norman Osborn."
May fumed. "Why does he have to ruin our lives?"
"I don't know, sweetie," said Peter hugging her. "Anyway, I more or less blamed myself, and your mother comforted me during those dark times."
"So, in a way, I brought them together," said Gwen.
"But don't you still love Daddy?" May asked, looking up at her.
Gwen smiled. "I'll always love your father, but this is how things must be, no matter how much it hurts."
"Isn't love supposed to be nice?" May asked, confused.
Peter smiled at her. "You're still too young to understand, May, but love can be nice and hurt us."
Parker Industries was soon starting to get a good rep, as Harry had found a cure for Molten Man. Though Mark nearly went on a rampage when he heard Harry's name, fortunately, Peter was on hand to offer assistance, protecting him and Normie.
Before using it on Mark, they tested it on Charlie Weiderman, the second Molten Man, and it worked on both subjects. This put Harry back in Liz's good grace, especially now that he used his mother's surname, Lyman.
They were also starting to work on the new prosthetics for Flash, though it was still in the early stages. However, it showed promise, and more people started to invest, including Jonah's father, Jay.
"I must say these prosthetics you're designing are revolutionary, and they can help many people," said Jay. "However, do you think it's at all possible?"
"The technology does exist," said Peter. "Otto Octavius uses a similar system with his mechanical arms."
"Not exactly a good role model," Jay pointed out.
"I know, but there's no denying that his arms worked well with a set of extra limbs," said Peter. "We plan on designing a neural interface that would allow prosthetics to work in tandem with the brain. Based on the subject commands, we will have these prosthetics work exactly how an arm and leg function."
"It's ambitious," said Jay.
"I should point out that there could be some problems, which might include the change of the subject's personality," said Peter.
"That's quite the problem," said Jay.
"Which is why we're not cutting corners when it comes to safety," said Harry as he approached them. "These are made to the point that everything we produce has a 110% safety rating."
"Under normal circumstances, I would be in trouble with your mathematics, but I get the general idea," said Jay. "And it's refreshing that you prioritise safety rather than making money. I only wish that the businesses thought as you do."
"Our primary goal is to heal the world, and we can't do that with unsafe products," Peter smiled.
"Given what the two of you accomplish with Molten Man, I'd say you're on a very promising start."
"Actually, Harry did most of the work on that one," Peter admitted and then rubbed his chin, "but it has got me thinking. Everyone has been so focused on ensuring the supervillains are locked up that no one had even considered curing them."
"I'd be careful if you go down that road," Jay advised. "I don't need to remind you about what happened to the new population."
"It's just an idea," said Peter.
"And worth exploring, but there's a limited amount of stuff we can do with just the two of us," Harry reminded him.
"You two ever thought about hiring an assistant?" Jay asked.
"We do have enough in the budget, but it's looking for someone willing to work for us," said Peter.
Harry nodded. "Yeah, but the Osborn stigma is still fresh in everyone's minds. Not many people are willing to work with me, and while Peter does have a doctorate, he hasn't really made any breakthroughs."
"Mostly because I was more concerned about finding my daughter," Peter explained.
Jay nodded. "I completely understand. Well, I think that's just about everything, and I am satisfied you're putting all that money to good use. However, if you want City Hall to get off your back, you best talk to my son."
"I do have an appointment with him, and to be honest, I'm not looking forward to it," Peter admitted.
"Look on the bright; at least he's not related," Jay smirked.
A few days later, Peter was now at City Hall, and Jonah was his usual self, yelling insistently.
"I'm sorry, Parker, but we don't have enough money to budget your company," said Jonah.
"Your father doesn't seem to have a problem investing," Peter pointed out.
"That's his money. I'm talking about the city's money."
"Well, you might have enough if you stop spending it on this Spider-Man hit squad," Peter pointed out.
"I'm doing this city a service by getting rid of that master menace!" Jonah growled.
"And how's that going?" Peter asked.
"Why, you little—"
"Mr Mayor," said Jonah's aide. "Doctor Parker does make a good point. The money for your Spider-Man hit squad could be put to much better use."
"This conversation is over!" Jonah roared. "Parker, get out!"
"I'm sorry for the Mayor's behaviour," said Jonah's aide as he led Peter outside.
"Believe it or not, I'm used to it," said Peter.
"I was wondering why Jonah was yelling," said a familiar voice.
Peter turned and saw Glory Grant standing right in front of him. She used to be Jonah's secretary in the Daily Bugle, and now it seemed she was his secretary again.
"Hey, Glory, that working with Jonah, I see," said Peter as they descended the stairs.
"A girl has to earn a living," she shrugged. "So what do you want to see, Jonah? What about Pete?"
"Hoping he would try to support my company," said Peter. "According to him, there is no money to offer grants at the moment."
"And then you said there may be some money if he laid on his Spider-Man vendetta," Glory assumed.
"Yep, and I think you can guess the rest."
"I'm sure soon he'll come to realise that being mayor means he can't do anything he wants," said Glory.
"I wish I were just as optimistic," said Peter.
"Wish I could help, but you people know how stubborn he is."
"Unfortunately."
Peter then began to leave City Hall when suddenly his spidey sense buzzed, and seconds later, he was knocked out.
It turned out that he had been knocked out by the Chameleon, who then posed as him now down to get certain materials from his company to make a bomb.
He did attempt to kill Peter by dumping him in some acid. Fortunately, he was able to use his super strength to break free from his restraint and quickly covered himself in webbing to protect himself from the acid. Of course, he had no idea what damage the Chameleon had done pretending to be him and immediately called MJ.
"Hey, MJ, it's me," said Peter.
"Peter?" said MJ confused. "Why are you calling me? You just left the apartment?"
"I was afraid of that," said Peter. "MJ, that wasn't me. That was the Chameleon posing as me."
"What?!" MJ gasped. "Well, that certainly explains why you've been acting weird since you got home… I mean him."
"Weird, how?" Peter asked.
"Well, you've been rummaging through our photo albums and haven't yet mentioned Spider-Man. Plus, you kiss me rather differently than you normally do."
"He kissed you?!" Peter yelled, outraged.
"I didn't know it wasn't you," said MJ quickly.
"I'm not blaming you," said Peter, taking a few deep breaths, "I'm furious at Chameleon. Tell me did I or he do anything else that was strange?"
"Well, Harry did mention that you were rather different at work," said MJ.
"Okay, MJ, we'll have to have a proper talk about this later right now; I need to follow the Chameleon's trail," said Peter.
"Okay, just be careful," she said.
Peter immediately swung his way over to Parker Industries and quickly informed Harry of everything that had happened.
"Looks like we're going to step up security," Harry sighed.
"Is anything missing?" Peter asked.
"Let me do a quick inventorying," said Harry.
Harry quickly began counting everything that was stored and quickly returned.
"We are missing a few components, and unfortunately, everything missing can be used to make a bomb," he said.
"And it could be anywhere," Peter groaned. "I'll get Ben and Gwen to help."
Peter immediately began trying to track Chameleon, which was easy, considering the guy was practically anyone. Ben and Gwen were checking other parts of the city, but unfortunately, they had no leads.
"The bomb could be anywhere, and so could the Chameleon," said Peter frustratingly. Then, he felt his spidey sense tingling. "Please tell me I'm not too late! Wait that sounds like a jet pack…"
A jet pack belonging to Jonah's hit squad immediately attacked him.
"Spider-Man! Police!"
"You're under arrest!"
"You have the right to remain silent!"
"If you give up that right, anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law!"
"Not now!" Pete yelled as he struggled to free himself. "And the good guy and trying to save the—"
"You have the right to an attorney and an attorney present during questioning!"
Peter realised they were using android armour, but the design was slightly different, mimicking Spencer Smythe's early Spider-Slayer robots. He suddenly felt nostalgic as cables launched out of the armour and wrapped themselves around him, and the face of JJ himself appeared on the chest of that armour.
"Look familiar, Wall-Crawler?" Johan laughed.
"Jonah, I really don't have time for any of this," said Peter.
"The only time you're going to have is a hard time in jail once I bring you to justice," said Jonah.
"As much as I would like to spend this nostalgic moment with you, JJ, I've got a city to save," said Peter, who managed to tear free from the cables.
Things were even more complicated when more policeman appeared, but thankfully, they weren't shooting any bullets if only to make sure they didn't hit their fellow men.
"Listen to me!" Pete yelled. "You're all in great danger—"
"He's lying," said Jonah. "He's trying to save his own skin. That's how he works. Now unmask him and book him."
Peter knew he was wasting his breath on Jonah, but then he noticed that the police were completely ignoring him and driving off. He instantly realised that the Chameleon must be driving that truck with the bomb.
He instantly broke free from Jonah's task force and instantly called Ben and Gwen.
"Ghost! Scarlet! I think I found the bomb, but flat tops task force are getting in the way!" Pete reported.
"We're on our way," said Gwen.
"Just hold on!" said Ben.
Peter knew he couldn't wait and immediately jumped onto the van, causing it to crash into a building. He ripped the door off the hinges and reached out for the Chameleon, disguised as a policewoman. He clearly was trying to activate the bomb, but thankfully pulled him away from the trigger on his phone.
Unfortunately, Jonah and his task force didn't realise this and immediately attacked him. This allowed the Chameleon to trigger the bomb, and he quickly made his getaway. Peter was still tangling with the task force, but Gwen and Ben arrived just in time.
"Sorry that we were late, Webs!" said Ben.
"Traffic was murder," said Gwen.
Together, the two of them were able to pull Peter free from Jonah's men. Peter then immediately reached towards the back and pulled the doors wide open.
"Would you stop fighting me for one moment? We've got a nuke that's about to go off!" he yelled.
"He's right!" said the lieutenant in charge upon seeing the bomb. "We got a dirty bomb! We have to get the contaminant out of here now!"
"There's no time!" said Peter and quickly looked at the lieutenant. "That laser generation mandroid design—you've all got built-in particle field accelerators, right?"
"Y-yeah… But how do you know about that?"
"Never mind how I know; I need all to surround the device in the field to contain the blast!" Peter instructed.
"We'll get everyone clear," said Gwen as she and Ben quickly moved down to evacuate the area.
Jonah's men did what they were told and quickly created a field around the bomb just about to explode. Just as Peter predicted, the force fields they produced were able to contain the explosion. Peter decided that now that the situation was contained, this was the perfect moment to escape.
Naturally, this was headline news, but true to form, Jonah continued his relentless pursuit to capture Peter. However, that became rather difficult when all his men resigned, and his aide gave in his resignation as well, telling him that the city's well-being was more paramount than his vendetta against Spider-Man.
"I'm so proud of you, Tiger," said MJ, wrapping her arms around him as they looked at the newspaper.
"Thanks, but it was a close thing," said Peter.
"So this bad guy was pretending to be you, Daddy?" May asked.
"I'm so ashamed I didn't realise it was the Chameleon," said MJ, a little distraught. "I even allow that terrorist to kiss me."
"Not your fault, Babe," Peter smiled, looking up at her. "The Chameleon is a master of disguise; he's had a lot of practice. We're fortunate he didn't realise I was Spider-Man, or he would have taken more precautions."
"Guess it's a good thing you kept your powers after all," MJ smiled.
"Yeah, and given the light of this situation, I think it's time to train May," said Peter as he folded today's paper.
May beamed excitedly. "You mean I get beat up bad guys with you, Daddy?"
MJ was less than enthusiastic. "Peter, there's no way to allow our daughter to put herself in danger with or without powers."
Peter then rose to his feet and looked. "And neither do I, but we don't know what the future might hold, and I don't want her to make the same mistakes I did when I first started. Also, I don't think it would be a bad idea if you also learned a bit of self-defence."
"I don't know about this," said MJ.
"MJ, if anything happened to you or May, I would never forgive myself. I'm not asking the two of you to become heroes, but you yourself had been kidnapped a few times. I just don't want the same thing that happened to Gwen to happen to you."
MJ looked at him and smiled. "Nothing is going to happen to me, Tiger. No matter what happens, I'll always be by your side."
Liz was at what used to be Oscorp, emptying out the place and removing anything particularly dangerous.
"That should be just about the last of it," said Liz.
"Not quite. I found a secret storage area on Osborn's computer," said Mark.
Liz sighed. "Harry did warn me that his father had several secret labs in his buildings."
They went to investigate this secret lab, but what they found completely stunned them.
"Please tell me that's not who I think it is," said Mark as he stared.
"She looks just like her," said Liz, stunned.
The two of them were now looking at a containment tank, and floating inside of it was little May Parker.
