It's the Winter solstice. The day when Hades can come back to Olympus. It's not Home to him, his home is in the Underworld now. Far away from the drama and childish disputes his siblings partake in.

The Olympians were all gathered for the occasion and seated in their respective Thrones. Poseidon was fidgeting in his seat, his impatience growing further and further. He kept looking at the front door of the council room to see if Hades was finally arriving.

But when he didn't, the young God would pout and slouch in his seat. It was almost Midnight. Surely he would finally make it. Hestia spares her little brother a glance, and smiles. She was also very happy to see their brother again.

"He'll be there Poseidon, you just have to be patient a little longer, brother." She tries to reassure him. But Poseidon doesn't know if he should believe her or not.

Although they were probably the only ones who were openly so. Their siblings didn't seem to care much, they were busy chatting among themselves and didn't pay attention.

He was so happy about the possibility of spending time with Hades again, but a part of him was scared to imagine that maybe, he wouldn't come, since last time, things didn't go as well and Hades told Zeus that he'll rather be alone in the Underworld than come back to this place.

They had argued and Poseidon thought he would have had to choose between them. Thankfully that didn't happen. But now, Zeus seemed to have changed his approach when it came to their Eldest brother.

He invited him more often to celebrations, which the God of the underworld declined politely one after the other. But this time, he did accept the visit (only because Poseidon asked him to).

Zeus was standing at the center. Carefully watching as the clock moved towards Midnight marking the darkest day of the year. Then, the atmosphere changed.

Their sisters stopped chatting, Aphrodite and Hera looked up from their seats. Hestia smiled as Their brother finally made an appearance.

"Hades!" Poseidon says and before anyone can stop him, he's glued to Hades's side.

Zeus watches longingly as Poseidon and Hades meet each other for the first time in decades. At least not in Olympus since Hades's banishment.

Poseidon spares not much time and cuddles close to his older brother as the God of the Dead takes his place on the throne that had been appointed for him, on Poseidon's right. He cuddles Poseidon into his side and kisses the top of his head gently.

Hades doesn't really care about their siblings' glances.

The normally severe God cannot hide his smile as he holds his dear baby brother in his arms once again. Poseidon normally tries to hide this part of himself when they're not alone, especially when the entire Family is around, but he cannot contain his excitement at seeing Hades back again.

The young Sea God clings to his dark cloak while the elder Gods gently strokes his hair. "I missed you, my little sea pup." He whispers into his ear. Poseidon smiles constantly at the nickname Hades gave him when he got the Sea as his domain.

"Welcome back Hades." Zeus finally speaks as he still watches Poseidon cuddle into Hades.

Hades looks up from their little brother, holding his sword in one hand while his other arm is otherwise occupied with holding his little pup. "Thank you Zeus." He says. "I appreciate the invitation, even if it's just for one night."

Hera sighs at the evident challenge in Hades's sentence.

Zeus clenches his jaw, trying to control his temper. "If you don't want to spend time with your family you are free to leave." He responds, watching Hades holding Poseidon a bit more tightly now. His gaze is also harsher.

Poseidon looks between both of his brothers, his excitement completely gone at this point. Sadness at seeing so much built up tension once more, when it was supposed to be a good day. He tries to control the tears that are starting to form in his sea green eyes.

"Zeus, you invited him. Can't you both move on for one night?" Hera asks, she's irritated at this point, even though Hades technically started it this time.

Zeus doesn't respond to his wife yet, merely looking at Poseidon cuddling even closer to Hades. The sight of their closeness made him jealous. Poseidon surely had chosen Hades over him.

It was clear as day, as the King of Olympus watched how Hades held Poseidon tightly and how the younger god didn't try to get away from the embrace compared to when Zeus had done the same thing, Poseidon flinched away from him.

Zeus loathed to admit that it hurt his feelings.

Poseidon didn't dare to look at his older brother since he could feel his glare from where he was snuggled. Hades felt him tense a little bit and hugged his baby brother. "It's okay little sea pup."

Poseidon gives out the smallest sniffle he can manage so no one knows he's getting emotional again. He doesn't need to have comments about it right now.

"I-I don't like it when you fight." He whispers into Hades's chest, and the God of the Dead nods in acknowledgment.

He didn't want to make Poseidon too hopeful, because the relationship between Zeus and him was quite complicated, but he was willing to make an effort.

"I'll try to behave, baby brother. For you." He whispers into Poseidon's ear. The little Sea God sighs in relief. Hades presses a gentle kiss on the top of Poseidon's head before he addresses his other brother.

Then Hades looks back at Zeus, the warmth and love he had for Poseidon moments ago, were now replaced with a harsh gaze. While he maintained his grip on Poseidon tightly. Almost in a possessive way.

"I'm sorry Zeus." He starts. Still glaring. "I did not intend to cause more pain between us all on this fateful night."

Zeus had his arms crossed over his chest. He understood Hades's apology wasn't one. It was more said as a warning. But seeing their little brother scared and seeking Hades so easily made him rethink.

He needs to show Poseidon he can come to him too. So he played along.

"Very well. Let there be peace between us for one night." He finally says and Poseidon looks up to him shyly.

He wasn't sure if they truly agreed with each other or not. But he would take this moment of peace between them.

Their sisters watched the exchange silently, they didn't believe the arrangement would last longer than a few hours at most but Hestia tried to make the atmosphere somewhat festive again.

"Let's enjoy this time as a family, I made a feast for us all to enjoy after the council."

Hades finally loosen his grip on Poseidon and smiles at his sister. "A feast sounds lovely."

Zeus tries to sound enthusiastic. "Yes, a feast sounds nice." He repeats as he still watches how Poseidon is cuddled willingly into Hades's side.

Hera comes and takes Zeus's hand into her own as they start to get into their thrones.

Poseidon would love nothing more than to stay cuddled into his oldest brother's side, but he knows they're being watched, so he blushes slightly at how his sisters are waiting for them to finish their cuddle before everyone returns to their assigned seats.

Reluctantly, Poseidon lets go of Hades, who squeezes his hand in encouragement when he feels his hesitation. His gaze is soft and loving for his little puppy who's technically not so little anymore, but always will be to him. Hades would do absolutely anything for Poseidon. If he wanted to come to live in the Underworld, he would be welcome with open arms even if Zeus would be against it.

The council goes somewhat smoothly. There is no arguing and exceptionally everyone seems to agree on what is being decided on.

Except for the fact that Poseidon falls asleep at some point and Hades is the one who wakes him up from his slumber. "Poseidon, wake up baby brother." He shakes his shoulder gently.

Hades's method is a lot more gentle than Zeus would have ever thought of doing.

His first reaction would have been to scream at Poseidon to wake up now. And act like the God he is.

But he comes to find out that Poseidon responds extremely well to Hades's gentleness.

The young Sea God awakes finally and rubs his eyes with his fists. Hades smiles at him. While Zeus watches attentively.

"Sorry… Won't happen again." He mumbles as he tries to sit better on his throne. Knowing how Zeus is probably pissed at him for doing that.

Hades merely smiles at him and rubs a gentle hand in his hair. "No need to apologize, little one. You needed to rest after everything."

"I'm glad you're finally awake to make your report little brother," Zeus interjects.

Hades raises an eyebrow at the surprisingly gentle tone the King of the Gods uses. It is so out of character for him. "Right.. The report." Mumbles Poseidon. As if it reminded him that all Zeus cares about are his Godly duties and not the fact that he needs to feel loved.

Unlike the rest of their siblings, Poseidon did not live the separation with them very well. After they were freed from Kronos, everything went very fast for him and he found himself alone in the Seas, and he was honestly scared. He doesn't know anyone, he's lonely and he only wants to stay with them.

That's why he spent most of his time either with Hades in the underworld or on Olympus with Zeus. But he pretends that everything is good and he has everything under control to not seem like a burden for an Olympian.

So he makes his report and Zeus seems satisfied enough to not ask questions about it. He merely nodded along and wrote things down as Poseidon talked about Marine life and Merpeople's architecture and his plans to build a new Palace and a city called Atlantis.

"Good work Poseidon. Your insights are very valuable for the future of our kind." Zeus praises and Poseidon looks up surprised.

"Really?" He asks in disbelief that his elder brother would think so highly of his ideas.

Hera turned questioningly at her husband's enthusiasm.

"Are you alright Zeus? Is the Solstice making you kinder?" She asks.

Hestia silently laughs..Normally Zeus is severe and cold with their youngest. Hades seems to know what he's doing but doesn't say much, because Poseidon is happy.

"You'll make a good King, little brother." He finally says. And Poseidon blushes slightly. He didn't like the pressure that had been put on his shoulders to become King and an Olympian never mind being one of the Big Three. He was still so young. Barely out of his teenage years in human years.

"Thank you." He whispers.

He didn't want to disappoint anybody but he didn't feel mature enough to have this many duties so soon.

He looks up to Hades who offers him a gentle smile. The elder God knows how he feels about all of this, which is why Poseidon spent so much time with him, as a way to escape from this. Even though Zeus has no idea.

…..

After the boring council ended and everyone was assigned new duties for after the solstice, Poseidon wanted to show Hades his home on Olympus. Since his brother hadn't seen it yet.

"Come Hades!" He says excitedly as the God of the Dead steps on the marble staircases leading to his baby brother's Olympian Palace. Zeus had told them that his Palace was still being built so Poseidon took it upon himself to welcome him into his own.

Poseidon is already at the top, happily fidgeting and patiently waiting for Hades to finally come and see what he did to the place while he was away for so long. Hades smiles proudly as Poseidon shows him around.

"It looks like a magnificent little sea pup." He says as he wiggles his fingers into Poseidon's side gently making the Godling laugh softly. Poseidon squirms away batting at his older brother's hands softly while also leaning in the tickles.

Hades smiles down at him poking him in the belly one last time before he relents. "I missed your laugh baby brother, it's been a long time since I last heard it."

Poseidon giggles once more. But then his smile falters a little bit. "I thought you wouldn't come to visit me." He confessed looking down.

"Oh little one.' He kneels to be at the same height as his baby brother. "I would never miss a time to visit you. I might be busy but you are always in my heart."

Poseidon looks up and wraps his arms around Hades's neck. Now he knows he can be as affectionate as he wants in the privacy of his temple. Hades returns the embrace and holds Poseidon close. "I'm very proud of you. Baby brother no matter what."

Poseidon snuggles closer. He feels safe in Hades's arms. Now that his spirits are lifted he looks up to his brother like an excited puppy.

"Now come on! You need to see the Garden! I added sea flowers that glow at night!"He says excitedly as he grabs Hades's hand and leads him to the exit of the temple.

Hades chuckles softly but dutifully follows. "Lead the way my little sea pup."

….

The next day, Poseidon wakes up cuddled into Hades's embrace. He slept amazingly, no nightmares and no memories of their Father's stomach.

Hades makes them breakfast. They don't need to eat or sleep technically, but they find comfort in doing so and being able to, now that they're free.

He feels safe.

They spend the day after the Solstice together. Enjoying playful games Poseidon pouts because Hades is great at every one of them.

"You're cheating!" He whines as he throws his card deck on the table in front of him. Hades raises an eyebrow amusement written in his eyes. "How can I cheat when you can see my cards?"

Poseidon crosses his arms defiantly, letting out a dramatic huff. To add to his act, he adopts the most exaggerated sea puppy eyes he can muster, hoping to make Hades feel guilty for winning every time.

Hades laughs, shaking his head in amusement. "Put those eyes away, Poseidon. I know what you're trying to do."

"But it's not fair!" Poseidon pouts even more, his lips forming a perfect frown. "I want to win at least once!"

Hades tries to maintain his composure, but the sight of Poseidon's adorable pout is nearly impossible to resist. His composure is declining. The little pest of a Godling knows how to make the King of the Underworld crumble. "Alright, little brother. How about we switch games? What do you want to play?"

He has had him wrapped around his finger since the day he was born and Hades would not change a thing.

Poseidon thinks about it and then smiles. "Can we roughhouse?"

"You think you can beat me?" He teases enjoying the way Poseidon gives him an evil glare.

"Of course I can! I've been practicing while you were away!"

"We'll see about that then." Hades responds by getting up from his chair into the common area where there would be enough space for them to play in.

Poseidon faces him, ready to take him on. They did actually train for real back when they took on the Titans but this was a new form of play Poseidon found out when they escaped. He adores any form of play that has to do with physical touch.

Hades is mindful to not hurt him. But also he wants Poseidon to have a fair mock fight so he doesn't hold back too much. He was still slightly stronger than the Sea God.

Poseidon tries to get Hades a few times and fails. He's very fast and strategizes well. But he lunges at him and he manages to catch him off guard for a moment and they end up with Poseidon sitting on top of his older brother triumphantly.

"Finally!" He exclaims. Hades laughs underneath him. He lets Poseidon enjoy his swift victory but then he smiles mischievously. "Not so fast, baby brother."

He sits up slightly and pulls Poseidon back down with him, cuddling him close.

Poseidon squirms in his embrace a little bit, but he loves cuddles so his efforts are in vain. "You're such a cheater!"

Hades chuckles, his laugh is deep and warm. "More like a strategic cuddler, I simply know how to use my weapons correctly."

Poseidon huffs in the embrace. Trying to keep some kind of dignity but he's totally not snuggling deeper. Not at all.

"I still won!" He insists. His older brother rolls his eyes playfully. "Yes, you did."He admits.

They stay cuddled like this for a little while longer. Until Poseidon falls asleep on Hades and then he pulls him into his arms and tucks him into his bed. He pulls the covers over his sleeping form and kisses his forehead.

"Sleep well, baby brother." He says before taking his leave to do some work in the study Poseidon had made, even though Hades knows he probably doesn't use is where he finds Zeus standing there alone.

"What are you doing here?" Hades asks.

Zeus looks up to meet his eyes. "I came to check on you both. Hestia was getting worried." He lies.

"Is that so? It's unlike you to care about what others think, never mind our sister."He crosses his arms, not believing a word Zeus said.

The King of the Gods looks down at the paperwork lying on the desk before him. "I wanted to check on Poseidon." He admits.

Hades glares at him. He knew that Zeus would try to get Poseidon to leave his side once he got the chance. He only invited him as a way to make their baby brother happy.

Zeus looks up once again meeting Hades heads on. "I only want what is best for my…our brother. Can't you see that I'm trying?"

Hades lets out a small mocking laugh. "Trying? You left him on his own when he needed you the most! He never wanted a part in any of this." He shows the temple and Olympus.

Thunder booms in the sky above them and Zeus clenches his fists in frustration.

"I did what was best for us all." He snarls back. "Sacrifices had to be made."Hades meets his challenge, and he advances.

"Sacrifices ugh? You sacrificed his happiness for your power."He accuses. Pointing his finger into his chest. "He is not some kind of weapon you can use as cannon fodder in the next Titanomachy."

His brother's words start to sink in, as Zeus realizes what he's done to Poseidon but his pride is strong. "He needs to learn to stand on his own, the world is dangerous."

"By pushing him away at the bottom of the sea?" Hades mocks. "You think he's going to learn what exactly? That his family despises him, that he cannot come to you when he needs help?"

Zeus doesn't respond.

"He's still a child, Zeus, look at him!" He gestures at the young Sea God's slightly open door. "He isn't ready for this. He's terrified, after spending his entire life in a cage, he's being imprisoned by his brother nonetheless."

Zeus realizes that he misunderstood the trauma they lived within their father's stomach. He knew it must have been hard for them to survive but sometimes he had a hard time to grapple with the reality of it and holding his siblings together as a united family didn't cross his mind for a long while.

He had been so focused on the wars, their kind surviving, and becoming the King of the Gods.

"Hades, I never wanted to destroy our family. I thought I was keeping us together."

Hades titles his head to the side. "Keeping us together by banishing me? By isolating Poseidon?"

"I was afraid you would ruin the stability I sought to create."

"You did take charge," Hades replies, his voice low. "But you led us into more darkness. You isolated me when I needed you the most. Poseidon needed both of us, but you only saw the threat I posed, not the brother you were casting out."

Zeus lowers his gaze, feeling the sting of Hades's words like a sharp blade. He nods.

"I know. But I want to show you that I want to do better." He says. "I decided that you could return to Olympus whenever you want to, the council disagreed at first, but it is your birthright to reign as King."

Hades studies Zeus trying to find an ounce of insecurity in what he said but he finds none.

A heavy silence fills the room as Hades contemplates Zeus's offer. The memories of betrayal and resentment flicker in his mind but so do the memories of laughter and camaraderie they once shared. "You expect me to just trust you after all that's happened?" Hades challenges, crossing his arms defensively.

"I don't expect you to," Zeus responds, his voice firm but gentle. "Trust is earned, and I'm willing to earn it back. If you're willing to come back to Olympus, I will show you through my actions that I've changed. I want to mend what's been broken."

Hades uncrosses his arms, his stance relaxes a bit. He's considering the offer.

"If I'm coming back, I do not want any part in the petty drama you put up with during council. I want a family to come back to."

Zeus nods solemnly. "I will try to make sure the council accepts your presence without questions. You will have authority over Olympus as it is your birthright."

Hades sighs, Zeus doesn't seem to understand what he means. "I do not need authority over anyone, I simply want acceptance from my own family. I want to see Poseidon heal and thrive as an Olympian and King of the Seas."

Zeus nods once more. "I understand. I'll make sure you have a place to stay on Olympus and it is my hope that we'll finally restore the balance and heal as a family."

Hades remains cautious and wary of Zeus turning into a new leaf and stepping down from his power angry persona he kept up for so long. But then again, Hades is smart enough to realize that their brother also had to live through hardships. Having the responsibility to save everyone and hold their family together during such tumultuous times.

Hades is not ready to forgive him for his banishment and lack of support throughout eons but he's willing to move past everything for the sake of their baby brother and family.

"I'll take your word for now, don't make me regret it." He finally says.

Zeus didn't try to argue or defend his pride; he accepted Hades's willingness for what it was.

"I won't, I promise brother."

Hades doesn't respond to the term. It's been a long time since anyone other than Poseidon and Hestia called him that. But he's secretly happy to hear it again, he feels less lonely all of a sudden.

Hades then turned in the direction of Poseidon's room to check on him. He gestures for Zeus to follow, and the younger Olympian does dutifully.

"He likes to sleep with someone, he hates being alone." The God of the Underworld starts as he delicately removes some of the blankets around Poseidon and gestures for Zeus to get in beside him. "He needs you."

Zeus hesitates though. "Are you sure he won't mind my presence?"

Hades looks up to meet his eyes, his gaze reassuring and softer than what Zeus is used to coming from the god of the underworld.. "If he did mind your presence he wouldn't spend as much time with you as he does."

Zeus looks back down at their little brother's sleeping form. Poseidon indeed spent quite a bit of his time away from his domain to stay with him on Olympus. Even though the little Sea God wasn't as affectionate with him or didn't seem to be as happy around him as he was with Hades.

"I want him to be able to trust me as a brother, not just as a commander. But he rejects my attempts." Zeus admits whispering so as not to disturb Poseidon.

Zeus did try to form a relationship with his many Olympian siblings after everything happened with the War against their Father and then becoming the Big Three. Still, everyone seemed to see him as King first and then their brother. He loathed to admit that sometimes, he was jealous of the relationship they had. They all seemed so close to each other and he grew up alone.

Hades listens and nods in understanding. "If you want to build a relationship with him or us, you have to stop seeing everyone as a threat to your throne, brother."

Zeus sighs, fidgeting with the blankets. "I Know. But he rejects me even when I'm trying to reach him, he seems to trust you more than anyone."

"That is because I raised him, Zeus. Your relationship will look different. Which is good."

Hades smiles at him. Then he steps into the bed on Poseidon's right and encourages Zeus to do the same. Which he finally does. He looks down at Poseidon when he feels him shift in his sleep, getting closer to him.

"Start small. Spend time with him, remove the responsibilities and pressures and he'll open up to you."He says his tone is firm but gentle.

….

The next few weeks, Hades spent time on Olympusto the Council's utmost surprise. Some of the Gods didn't like this new way of doing things and did not waste any time expressing their discomfort about the new arrangement. But Zeus was quick to dismiss them.

Hades stayed on Olympus primarily to help guide Zeus through the learning process of understanding their baby brother. It seemed quite comical to some of their sisters as they watched the two elder Gods interact without any bloodshed during councils.

"See, now he's bored and so he's probably going to fall asleep in the next few minutes because he doesn't care about Dmeter's wheat culture."

Hades explains quietly to Zeus. Their thrones are now side to side and Poseidon's is on Hades's right. Zeus listens intently as if he is making mental notes of Hades's wisdom.

As if Poseidon heard Hades, his eyelids started to drop, while he tried his best to stay in a somewhat straight position. But he fails.

"He always does this whenever she starts speaking along with Athena. He doesn't want to be disrespectful, it just doesn't catch his attention."He points out as Poseidon starts to sleep off while Demter passionately explains her agricultural advancements.

"He never liked councils, did he?" Zeus whispered, his tone as gentle as he could muster.

Hades chuckles softly to not disturb Demeter. "Nope. He hates sitting during Councils, his attention needs to be occupied at all times."

Zeus nods thoughtfully. "I'll try to bring him something next time."

Hades smiles at the suggestion. "He would love that." He says as he gently adjusts Poseidon's position so he can be comfortable.

During the next council, Poseidon could bring a drawing pad and a seashell to entertain himself and he didn't sleep at all. Which made Zeus a lot happier and the council went smoothly.

….

The next day Zeus tries to approach Poseidon in his temple. Hades had to leave for the Underworld to handle some business with his realm, leaving the young Sea God alone. Hades left with some pieces of advice though. How to approach the Sea God and not scare him.

Poseidon was playing with the new pool he made for himself, making hippocampi using the seafoam. Which would then become actual horses. The smaller God didn't expect any visitors but he was having as much fun as he could being alone without Hades around to play games with him.

Zeus had witnessed them playing a lot throughout Hades's longer stay on Olympus. It made him smile to see Poseidon so happy and carefree, but then again when he tried to engage in those same games, his baby brother didn't react very well. He had been more confused than anything.

Hestia did point out that maybe it would be a better option for Zeus to find their own personal games to play considering Poseidon only allowed Hades to get so close to him.

Zeus didn't come empty-handed. He followed Hades's lead and the elder God recommended him to give something to Poseidon he never thought he would like. A plushie.

Hades said that Poseidon needed to know that Zeus accepted him as he was.

Zeus sat down peacefully a little bit away from Poseidon to give him space if he didn't like him to stay close. And he put his gift bag next to him watching his little brother have fun with the creatures he made.

Poseidon felt someone watching him so he turned his attention away from the hippocampi.

His brows furrowed to see him there. "Zeus, what are you doing here?" He asks.

Zeus tries to not show his frustration at the way Poseidon is coldly greeting him despite his efforts.

He takes a breath, grabs the gift bag and hands it out to the young God. "I got something for you. I thought it would bring you comfort while Hades is busy." He tries.

Poseidon looks at the gift bag cautiously. "What is it?"

"Something I hope you'll use whenever you feel lonely."

Poseidon grabs the bag and opens it. It's a stuffed eagle. He pets its head softly and cuddles with it. Zeus can't help but smile at his brother's cuteness.

The plushie means a lot to Poseidon. He always loved cuddly things like fluffy blankets and plushies although only Hades knew about it and has gotten him the ones he has secretly hidden in his rooms in the Underworld. This is a side that Zeus never saw from Poseidon before.

But he does enjoy being the one to bring a smile to Poseidon's face a lot.

Although he would never admit it out loud.

Zeus looks back at the creatures swimming in the pool happily. "What are these?" He asks, trying to show Poseidon he's interested in his new creations.

Poseidon smiles as he watches the creatures. 'They're hippocampi, I made them out of sea foam."He explains proudly.

Zeus smiles as Poseidon explains. "Will you bring them to your domains?"

Poseidon's smile falters a little at the question about his domain. He didn't like to think about it much. His domains were overwhelming and scary. A place of expectations and responsibilities.

"I-I haven't thought about it much." He admits as he fidgets with the plush eagle's wings.

Seeing Poseidon's change in humor Zeus quickly changed the subject to not make Poseidon sad and worse, not want to spend time with him anymore.

"That's fine, you can play with them here if you prefer. But they might be happier in a bigger pool." He adds.

Poseidon is intrigued by the thought. "Maybe I will have to bring them to the ocean. But I'm not ready yet."

Zeus nods in understanding. "That's okay. We can build them a bigger one if you'd like and you can add seashells and coral reefs too."

Poseidon smiles softly at the suggestion.

"Yeah, that would be nice."

….

Except the transition from being a King to being an older brother was harder than Zeus imagined. The week after he gave Poseidon his plushie, he started to fall into old patterns again.

"Poseidon, you should go back to your domains, your people await you and need your leadership."

Poseidon bit his lip, enamored by a new sea shell he found on Earth, not looking at Zeus. He thought he would be more understanding. But it seemed like Zeus couldn't see past responsibilities and powers.

"I-I'm not ready yet." He almost pleaded.

Poseidon felt his chest tighten. The plush eagle Zeus had given him sat nearby, but it suddenly seemed like a distant token, a brief moment of understanding that had slipped away.

He wanted to say more, to explain that it wasn't just about the responsibilities.

It was the fact that Poseidon felt alone and uncomfortable and his people didn't seem to like him for being an Olympian either. Although he tried to be nice.

The weight of the ocean and the expectations that came with it felt suffocating, something Zeus couldn't seem to grasp.

"I just need more time," Poseidon said softly. He felt small again, like he was going back to a different time in his life where only darkness and fear once were.

And Hades.

Poseidon looks back down on his seashell before Zeus sighs in frustration. He knows what's coming his way. He knew Zeus couldn't see him beyond a God or what he thought was the right thing to do.

"You are a strong Poseidon. I would have not given you the Seas if I didn't believe in your capabilities." He insists. Poseidon listens but doesn't respond. He simply wanks to sink into the ground. "One day, you're going to have to let go of your fear and learn how to lead. The water is an expansion of your divinity."

Poseidon wanted to cry and scream. But he knew it was futile. The duties and responsibilities placed on him felt like chains to his freedom. He felt restrained into a role he didn't choose.

Instead he waited for Zeus to leave the room and he grabbed the plushie and threw it across the room. The young God stood frozen watching the plush on the floor and then he picked up again. Removing the dirt, he held it tightly.

He felt alone once more.

He laid down on the floor holding the stuffed animal as if it was his lifeline and cried.

He stayed like this for a long time before he heard footsteps. And a female voice calling his name. "Poseidon?"

He lifted his gaze and he saw his older sister watching him from the entrance of his temple. Concern evident in her eyes.

Her presence calmed him down considerably. He didn't feel as lonely. And without saying a word Hestia simply kneeled in front of him and held him in her arms. Poseidon felt his tears coming up again but he tried to hold them in.

He didn't need to show her this side of him. It was humiliating enough with Zeus being there.

But he couldn't stop the tears once they started to fall.

She wrapped her arms around him and let him cry. "It's alright, you're safe. I understand baby brother." She whispered down to him. Rocking him like one does a frightened child.

He sobbed all the fear, and isolation and memories of the pain they shared while imprisoned in their Father's stomach.

"You don't have to go back if you're not ready to." She added. "It's okay if you need more time."

Poseidon'ssobscalmed down considerably. "I-I don't want to disappoint anyone."

She rubbed a gentle hand on his back. "You're not going to disappoint anyone, little brother. I promise. You simply need more time."

Poseidon sniffles a little bit, still holding the plushie for comfort. "What if they truly hate me?" He asks looking up at her amber eyes. She smiles down at him. Hestia knows he's talking about his subjects.

"They won't hate you. They simply need time to adjust like you." She reassures him.

But Poseidon has doubts. "But what if they see me as weak?"

"Then it's your job to show them otherwise," she replied gently. "Leadership is not just about commanding authority; it's about connecting with your people. Let them see your heart. Show them that you care about their needs and fears, just as you care about your own. That is true strength."

He sighs but nods.

"You will be a good King to your people, Poseidon, do not doubt yourself. Simply be yourself and they'll learn to love you for who you are." She says gently kissing his temple.

Poseidon felt comforted. And stronger.

"Thank you. I want to be a King they can rely on. "And you will be," she assured him.

Poseidon returned to Seas a few days after his conversation with Hestia. And he did let the Hippocampi roam free in the ocean. He also met one of the Nereids, Amphitrite. He was struck by her kindness and understanding despite being so different from him.

Hestia did not miss the way Poseidon seemed a lot happier after he met her. Hera also sensed that something might be happening between the young immortals. Both sisters smiled at each other knowingly when they saw him coming back all flustered.

Young love was precious in Hestia's eyes but toHerait bring back some painful memories of her own marriage but they were both happy for Poseidon.

Poseidon also met a dolphin God who was named Delphin and would become his lieutenant in a future unknown to them all yet.

Although Poseidon was making progress in his domains, he did not tell Zeus about anything, preferring to confide in Hestia or Hades. Even though Hades didn't know all the details of what Poseidon had been doing in his realm, he simply saw a new found confidence in Poseidon when it came to his domain.

….

Poseidon and Zeus didn't talk for weeks (in our realm) after the last incident. The little Sea God avoided him any time he tried to make a conversation.

Which frustrated the elder god quite a bit, to the point where one day he forces the conversation to happen. Without asking Hades for help.

"We need to talk about your duties, Poseidon." He starts, his tone is firm, almost too firm for the young God.

Poseidon looks up to him angrily. "Had you been less blind you would realize that I have neglected my duties." He snaps. "I've spent time building my kingdom for the last decade."

Zeus tries to say something but he can't find the right words. "Then why didn't you tell me?"

He was a bit hurt that he missed out on Poseidon's progress.

Poseidon's expression hardened, frustration etching lines on his face. "Because every time I tried, you brushed me off! You were so caught up in your own plans and expectations that you never bothered to ask what I was doing. I thought you didn't care!"

Zeus shook his head, taken aback. "That's not true! I care, Poseidon. I've always cared. I just... assumed you were fine because you didn't reach out. I didn't know you were struggling with this."

"Struggling?" Poseidon replied. "I'm not struggling! I'm learning. The Sea is not just a kingdom to control, it's also my home and a part of me."

Zeus looked down at him. "You could have told me you went back and met new people and started creating Atlantis."

Poseidon sighed. "I didn't know I needed your approval. It's my domain I can do whatever I want." He snarled defensively.

Zeus frowned, frustration mingling with hurt. "It's not about approval, Poseidon. It's about sharing your progress with your family. I wanted to celebrate your achievements with you, not learn about them from someone else."

Poseidon crossed his arms and huffed.

"Did Hades know?" The question came over Poseidon like a tidal wave.

Poseidon bit his lip. But then he thought that being honest would be better. He hesitated, and for a moment, Zeus could see the internal conflict playing out in his brother's expression. It stung just a little that Poseidon had turned to Hades instead of him.

"Yes," Poseidon admitted reluctantly. "But he didn't push me to share anything. He just listened."

His jealousy was showing a little bit. Zeus really did want to be the first one to know about their baby brother's first steps into his new role as an Olympian. But he did realize that maybe he was holding him back. Compared to Hades who seemingly let Poseidon roam freely. And then he would actually listen to his advice.

"I wish you had come to me instead," Zeus finally said, a hint of vulnerability creeping into his 's expression softened, uncertainty creeping in. "I… I didn't think you'd be interested. You're always so busy."

Zeus watches the sadness creep into his dear baby brother's eyes. He cannot stand to see him like this.

"I'm sorry if I made you feel that way little brother. You are important to me." Poseidon looks up a little bit. Trying to find the lies behind Zeus' words. But his brother is sincere.

"Come here. Baby brother." He says with open arms. With a hesitant step, Poseidon moved closer, the distance between them shrinking. Zeus opened his arms, inviting Poseidon into a warm embrace. For a moment, Poseidon hesitated, but then he stepped forward, allowing himself to be enveloped in his brother's comforting presence.

As Zeus held him, Poseidon could feel the weight of the past few weeks begin to lift. "I missed this," Zeus murmured, resting his chin on Poseidon's head. "I've missed you."

"I… I missed you too," Poseidon admitted, his voice muffled against Zeus's shoulder. The warmth of the moment wrapped around him like a safety net, dispelling some of the bitterness that had built up inside him.

"I promise to do better, to be more present," Zeus vowed as he pulled back to look into Poseidon's eyes. "You're not just my brother; you're my family. We'll navigate this together."

Poseidon nodded, his excitement coming back. He leads Zeus towards his temple where he left his notebooks filled with the plans for Atlantis and his palace.

"Maybe I can show you what I've been working on… if you're really interested." He says shyly/

"I would love that," Zeus replied, a genuine smile breaking across his face. "Tell me everything. I want to know your plans."

Hades smiles behind them, hidden in the shadows.

Their little Poseidon was indeed not so small anymore and the thought made him a bit sad but he was also very proud of him. Just as Zeus was, behind his jealousy and paranoia of a possible riot.

….

Zeus's efforts come to fruition after months. Poseidon finally spent time with him of his own accord. And it wasn't rare to see him lounge in his brother's temple anymore.

Hera was not happy about the arrangement at first, but she didn't object to it outwardly because at least Poseidon could keep her husband from cheating on her.

And she had to admit that Poseidon's presence brought joy back to Olympus.

Hades eventually returned to the Underworld because he liked his realm a lot and didn't want to leave it behind so Poseidon would go between both brothers.

Zeus was sitting at his desk looking through the ungodly amount of scrolls he had to go through that Hades kindly left for him to deal with. When he heard soft footsteps from behind. And then he felt a warm weight sitting on his lap.

He didn't have much time to adjust before the person cuddled close. And when he finally looked down. He saw Poseidon's ruffled dark hair holding the eagle plushie he had given him.

The King of the Gods couldn't help but smile. A relief from all the paperwork he had to do.

"Are we?" He asked in a gentle tone.

Poseidon merely nods into his chest. "Don't feel good." He replied, the sound muffled into his brother's robes.

"Oh, what's wrong baby brother?" He asks instinctively, reaching to feel Poseidon's forehead. Hades had told him that when Poseidon was sick he got a lot more affectionate and didn't want to be alone at all.

Zeus rubs his hand gently on Poseidon's warm forehead and down his hair. His baby brother's normally playful demeanor was now subdued for a more quiet and cuddly one. Not that he minded, Zeus secretly adored the time he could spend with Poseidon like this. After so many eons wishing to have a closer relationship with his siblings.

"You have a fever, little Storm. You need to rest." He says as he adjusts their position so Poseidon can feel safe enough to fall asleep. The young God cuddles closer, an instinctive need for physical affection.

Zeus couldn't help but smile down at him as he tried to not disturb the sleepy godling.

Poseidon tried to stay awake for a little bit, but eventually, he closed his eyes and fell asleep.

The elder God holds him tenderly, cherishing this silent moment of trust, and already makes a mental note to cancel the following councils to focus on taking care of Poseidon. Otherwise, Hades will come to smite him for not taking care of his little one. But he also enjoys staying like this.

Poseidon eventually awakens the next morning, cuddled between Hera and Zeus, confused on how he got there in the first place. He's comfortable and so he decides to cuddle closer to Zeus's chest and falls back asleep.
