The day had consisted of hot and humid weather; the night so far has been better thanks to the cool breeze that rustled the trees every now and again, but it was still too hot for blankets, and honestly, even a shirt.

The castle has felt a bit more quiet since Elsa decided to stay at the enchanted forest, and Anna's new duties and responsibilities as Queen have kept her fairly busy, so the couple has had to make due with limited time spent together. It wasn't the most desirable of situations, but Krisoft understood and knew that with time things would settle down and be back to normal, or as close to that as possible; but still, in the dead of night is when he felt the quiet the most, and that's what was keeping him awake tonight.

He missed her, and he felt silly for it because they were living in the same castle and saw each other every day, but that was only at meals, in the hallways, and those few moments where he could steal a kiss from his fiancée right before saying their goodnight's, or to put it more accurately, his goodnight's, as Anna has made a habit of staying up later than she should to complete mountains of paperwork as she was so determined to honour her role as Queen and do right by the people of Arendelle. It had worried him how little sleep she was getting and how often he has had to carry her to bed after finding her slumped over her desk snoring away, but no amount of him trying to tell her to take it easy was enough to convince Anna. When she put her mind to something, there was very little one could do to change it.

He kept tossing and turning in bed, unable to find sleep, and he was starting to get annoyed with himself for not being able to silence his thoughts and just go to sleep, and the heat wasn't helping either. I mean, he knew Anna knew what she was doing, and maybe it was a little selfish of him to want more of her time when he knew how busy she's been, but there's only so much companionship that a reindeer and snowman could offer. In the past, he would have been fine just being alone with Sven, but Anna had changed everything, and now too much time away from her felt agonisingly slow.

Krisoft closed his eyes once again to try and fall asleep when suddenly his bedroom door burst open, causing him to bolt upright, and lo and behold, there stood Anna in a blue linen nightdress, as her day dress had made her feel way too stuffy and hot, prompting her to change into something more comfortable and kinder in this heat. She stood there holding a candlestick to light her way, and the poor woman was absolutely exhausted.

"Anna?!" he exclaimed, utterly confused by the sight before him.

He quickly got out of bed, not really thinking, just wanting to ensure that she's okay.

"Are you okay?" he asked, looking her up and down and trying to examine her to find some sort of answer.

Thanks to her lack of sleep, Anna had forgotten her manners and the rules of knocking on one's door before entering a room, especially in the dead of night, and before she even could produce an answer, her eyes found Krisoft bare-chested, and she had gone completely red in the face, half due to embarrassment and half attraction. This was a first in their relationship, and she didn't know what to say. Stammering, she quickly turned herself around, profusely apologising.

"Oh my goodness, Krisoft, I'm so sorry. I should have knocked first; I shouldn't have barged in like that."

She was biting her bottom lip and clenching and unclenching her hands, trying to find some way to defuse her embarrassment and hoping the situation she had put herself in would find a way to easily settle and be less awkward.

Krisoft had forgotten that he wasn't wearing a shirt at first, but when he saw Anna's reaction, he instantly seemed to remember.

"OH, OH"

"Sorry, sorry, I- it was hot, sorry, I-I was feeling hot.

"No, no, no, it was my fault. I should have knocked first. I'm sorry."

He swiftly ran to retrieve the abandoned shirt at the edge of his bed and put it on. Once he finished, he put his hand on Anna's shoulder and turned her to face him, only to find her exhausted. His eyebrows furrowed.

"Anna… Are you okay?"

The red-headed Queen then finally let herself fall into his arms and she felt his arms go around her waist.

"I am so tired," she sobbed into him.

"I should have listened to you and taken it easy; there's just so much work to do, and I don't want to disappoint anyone, and I just want to make sure I'm doing everything right, so I keep staying up late, and I completely humiliated myself in front of one of the palace guards yesterday by tripping over the skirts of my dress and knocking him down the front staircase," she said in between a mixture of sobs and groans".

Krisoft could not help but burst out laughing at the story Anna had just told him. Anna stood upright and gently slapped him on the shoulder.

"It's not funny," she whined.

"I'm sorry, Anna, but it really is," Krisoft said as he continued chuckling.

And eventually she started to laugh alongside him, because somehow he had made it seem a lot less worse than she had amped it up to be in her head. Anna leant back into Krisoft and felt his arms find themselves back around her.

"Do you know what the worst part has been?"

"What's that?"

"I've missed you way too much, even though you're so close by," Anna said, looking up at Krisoft's eyes.

Krisoft couldn't help but smile at his replicated feelings. He cupped her face with both his hands and leant down for a soft and warm kiss. As the two separated, both had smiles plastered on their faces.

"I've missed you too."

They stayed there for a moment, just relishing in each other's embrace, taking in one another's smell, and just simply enjoying the moment. In the end, Krisoft was the first to break the silence after hearing a tired yawn escape Anna's mouth.

"You should go to sleep; you've been working way too hard."

"I want to stay like this." She protested.

He did too. But knew she desperately needed some sleep.

"You need to sleep, and I will carry you to bed if I have to." He insisted.

Anna looked up with him with tired eyes and finally admitted defeat; she knew this was a battle she could not win.

"Okay." She sighed.

He let his arms fall from around her as she stood upright, but he grabbed onto her hand.

"But tomorrow, you're mine, and I'm not sharing you with anyone or even the Kingdom itself."

"Deal?" he asked.

Anna smiled.

"Deal"

And he planted a soft kiss onto the back of her hand, still not letting it go. He walked her to her room hand in hand. Only when they arrived at her bedroom door did he finally let go of her hand.

He gave her a gentle kiss on the cheek and smiled as he wished her a goodnight.

"Goodnight, I love you"

"Goodnight, I love you too" she smiled back.

As Anna closed her bedroom door and Krisoft walked back to his own bedroom, he couldn't help the stupid smile that spread across his face; tomorrow she was all his. When Krisoft returned back to bed, he found that sleep instantly took over, and that night both Krisoft and Anna went to bed smiling and thinking of tomorrow and one another.
