Chapter 6- Black Residence
As Emily and Embry arrived to the Black home, Emily was greeted with hugs all around. Billy knew she was tired after the flight, the drive, and the walk home so he sent Jacob and Quil to bring back her bags quickly and the old car that broke down. He was talking with Emily and Embry over left overs from dinner that evening. Really, he knew they would miss dinner due to Jacob's plans, but he could keep up an act in good fun. He also secretly watched them. He could see it in Embry's eyes, but also saw how he was scared to make a move.
As the topic moved to the bakery and Emily's job offers, the guys bust through the door with Emily's bags. She excused herself to unpack and get ready for bed. The boys took that time to drop hints to Embry.
"So Embry, my man, how was the drive?" Quil started in on him as Jacob rolled his eyes. No one could trust Quil to make it not awkward.
"It would've been nicer if the drive could have completed here, wouldn't it Jake?" He replied.
"Yeah, but isn't it great that you got more alone time with your best friend?" Jacob corned.
At that statement Quil looked shocked, "I thought I was your best friend?", which question earned a playful smack from Jacob on the back of his head.
Embry gave all the men in room a look one by one, and it clicked.
"You mean to tell me Jake that you set me up?" Embry whispered screamed so Emily couldn't hear him. "Yes we did man. Seriously you both have heart eyes for each other every summer. You text and call every single day all year. You get sad when she isn't here and beside yourself excited when summer comes. We are your best friends but she is more. So what are you going to do about it?" Jacob almost was willing to lose the bet if this was cheating just to get them together and the games over with.
At that moment Emily walks out after a shower and wearing her pjs. She looks at the guys who all have a guilty or shocked look on their face. "What?" Emily asks. No one answers her, instead Billy asks Jacob about the condition of the old car. Quil and Jacob help him outside to the garage for a check of the damage, leaving Emily and Embry alone in the house.
Emily moved to the couch beside Embry knowing she still wanted answers.
"What did you hear?" Embry would not look at her.
"Nothing just guilty faces. Why?" Emily replied.
"Can I ask you something? Like promise no matter the answer our friendship won't change?" Embry looked at Emily hoping for a positive answer.
Suddenly it clicked, but Emily didn't have the answer Embry wanted. "I don't think I can Embry. I mean I wanted to mention this to you earlier…like a long, long time ago earlier…" at that Embry's heart began to race and you can see the struggle on his face. His anxiety was obvious to Emily but she knew she had to say what needed to be said.
"I can't keep going on with just being friends if there is never a chance of anything more." With those words Embry whipped his head around to study her. "You mean you feel the same? That what the guys said was true?" Emily gave him a knowing look, "so you finally heard huh?"
At this point both teens were hopefully and confused.
"You first" they both said so Embry took the initiative.
"Emily I'm going to say this now, and I hope the rest of this summer doesn't die if you don't feel the same. I love you. I have since I met you. I want a life with you more than summers, texting and calling. I want you to stay. I was going to build up courage and hopefully ask before you leave, but I couldn't wait anymore after what I was told. I would say it's okay if you don't feel the same and if you don't feel the same, I won't come around this summer. I just want you to be happy." Emily stared at him with awe and tears in her eyes.
"Oh gosh Emily please don't cry. I'm sorry I'll go home and-" Emily interrupted him with -"finally I know you feel the same!" She threw her arms around him as Quil walked in having heard it all.
Quil hugged both of them almost crying, to which Emily and Embry immediately gave him a dirty look.
"Quil this is not a group activity." Emily said and laughed while pushing him off.
"So does this mean we have a happy couple?" Billy winked while asking when he was being pushed back inside by Jake. "It is if she will have me as that. We will discuss labels later. How about movie and popcorn like our traditional starts to the summer?" Embry looked at Emily smiling.
"I'm down with that," Jacob grinned. "but no making out!"
Emily blushed and agreed as Quil went to get the popcorn.
"Emily and Embry. We will leave you alone but hands to self in front of us please? Same rules apply to sleepovers however Embry you are welcome to stay whenever now. Doors open 24/7 while you are here or else I plan to bust through the door yelling surprise ok?" Billy was always supportive yet stern. Both teens smiled and agreed.
"Now as for the bet we had boys, I think Jacob technically didn't cheat but let's just say he is $50 richer unfortunately." Billy reminded them and Quil groaned. "Man there was a new video game I wanted," Quil complained as Embry and Emily tunned them all out holding hands under the blankets as Jacob started the movie.
