Chapter Twenty-Four: Selfish
Kagome sighed as Touya's arms curled around her waist possessively. She felt his lips press against the tip of her shoulder as he pulled her deeper into his chest.
It was well after 7AM and she could hear the flurry of movement outside in the hallway. The group had gotten ready and headed down for breakfast, yet when neither she nor Touya were there, they immediately ran back up and started banging on Touya's door.
Kagome groaned when she heard fists beating on her own door.
She was way too tired to be dealing with any of this at the moment.
"Want me to answer it?" His voice was playful as he stirred.
Kagome shook her head, "You know damn well that you can't be seen in here. Just go hide in the bathroom. I'll talk to the others."
His teeth scraped against the nape of her neck in a playful manner before he rose from the bed. Touya collected his shirt from the ground and silent stepped into her bathroom. He both shut and locked the door behind him so Kagome finally took to her feet.
She felt her face flame when she'd noticed that her shirt had stayed at her bra level throughout the night. She swiftly tugged it back down before she threw a night tube over herself to cover the fact that she'd never changed clothes. Afterwards she'd finally opened the door to see a panicked Tenko standing before it, his fist still raised to knock.
"Tenko?" Kagome cocked her head to the side curiously, "What's wrong?"
The man shifted on his feet awkwardly, "That creepy guy is back. He says he wants to talk."
His dark eyes shifted to her room behind her, as if expecting to see someone with her.
Kagome stiffened, "Houjo is here?"
Why in the seven hells would he ever come back? Where was Hawks or even the other Safety Commission agent? It was Saturday, wasn't it? There was no reason for that bastard to turn up here a second time.
Tenko nodded, "He's by himself but he's been arguing with Hawks for the last hour. He says he won't leave until he sees you."
Kagome curled her fingers into a tight fist.
Waking up to Touya beside her had been such a pleasant experience. So why did Houjo have to completely ruin that with his sudden presence.
She closed her eyes, "You may inform him that I will not be coming out and he has one minute to vacate the premises before I have him charged for violating his court order." She the flashed Tenko a warm smile, "I'll be downstairs with everyone in an hour. I still need to get around."
The dark-haired male nodded. He then turned on his heel and made his way towards the elevator. Kagome shut the door behind her and gave a heavy sigh.
Touya emerged from the bathroom, his expression set into a protective scowl.
"I'll go talk to him." He tried to make a beeline for the door.
Kagome threw her arms around his waist instinctively and held him back.
"Don't," She warned. "The Safety Commission was already furious enough because you guys said something to him. Just let Hawks deal with him. He's not worth going back to jail for."
Touya's body froze at that. She could feel his muscles coiling, as if he wanted nothing more than to charge downstairs to confront the man himself but was holding back.
"What exactly happened between you two?" His voice was controlled, as if he were trying to keep his temper in check.
Kagome held onto him even more tightly.
It wasn't exactly a story she liked to retell to anyone, but Touya did at least deserve that much. Especially if they were going to be in a relationship together.
"After my father was arrested, both Hawks and I were sent into the foster system.,we ended up in separate homes but we managed to keep contact with each other through phone calls." Kagome began to explain, "I was eventually taken in by Omoikiri Sesshoumaru. He works as a lawyer most times but he's active in foster care and will frequently take in children from troubled backgrounds like myself."
She pressed her forehead against the space between his shoulder blades, "Sesshoumaru is still in my life and he's the reason I was able to attend U.A. at all. However when I was in middle school, I ended up having several run ins with Houjo and his family." Kagome took solace in Touya's presence as she continued, "Houjo's family sells support items and are big names in the hero industry. So they were often present during the galas that Sesshoumaru would host. I was never forced to attend any of them but I liked being able to just get out and spend some time with people close to my age in that setting. So that's how we met."
Her fingers twitched, "Problem is that Houjo immediately started asking for dances, my phone number and even to start going steady. I politely declined him a lot as he was still one of the sons connected to Sesshoumaru's line of work. The real issue arose when Houjo suddenly transferred schools to where I was attending and tried the same thing. That time he wound up attempting to use my friends to pressure me into a relationship with him."
Touya pulled forward but she held firm, keeping him rooted to the spot.
Kagome pressed on, "Eventually Hawks found out first. So he tried to talk to him in his usual big brother kind of way." She laughed a little at the memory, "It worked for about a week but Houjo returned to his usual antics afterwards. Eventually Sesshoumaru found out during one of the galas when Houjo refused to leave me alone. He'd taken offense and collected evidence of his harassment and hit him with a restraining order. Sesshoumaru cut all ties with Houjo's family and ousted them from their previous status. Houjo's father then went to work at the Safety Commission when his business failed. Sesshoumaru renews that restraining order every few years so that Houjo won't have any legal right to approach. It's worked until now so I'd rather just let Hawks deal with him. He can legally arrest him, after all."
Honestly she didn't even want to imagine a possibility of having ever caved to Houjo and her friends' pressure to date him. He was pushy and refused to accept no for an answer. Since taking a position at the Safety Commission, he'd even become corrupted—as proven by his actions in Shuichi's case. The idea of ever being with such a man horrified her. She'd choose death over that fate any day.
Touya gave a frustrated sigh, "So you're saying to just sit tight and let the bird handle it. Is that right?"
Kagome nodded, "It's not ideal but it's better than you getting locked up again."
She wanted to spend more time with him. They wouldn't be able to do that if he were to be sent back to prison thanks to Houjo's behavior.
She felt his shoulders sag in defeat, "Fine but I want a reward for behaving nicely this time." Touya turned in her grasp and swiftly wrapped his arms around her in a possessive manner. "We've got about thirty minutes to spare, so let's make the most of it."
She felt him push at her shoulders and her back suddenly hit her mattress. He straddled her hips as he pinned both of her hands above her head. She would deny the rush of warmth that ran through her. However before she could respond she felt his lips upon her own. His tongue pushed past her lips with wanton abandon and Kagome closed her eyes, returning his show of affection in full.
He pulled back just long enough to flash her a confident smirk.
"While he's down there begging for a glimpse, I'll be here in bed with you. That'll satisfy me for the moment." He leaned forward once more, "I'm a selfish man at heart. If I like something, I'll make it mine. If someone else wants it, I won't give it up. I'm not keen on sharing."
Kagome threw him a smirk of her own, "I didn't think you would be. Although I'm a person and not a 'thing'."
His lips curled up into a wide grin, "Exactly. You really think I'd let some plain bastard like him snipe my girl away from me?" He lowered his mouth to the base of her neck and she felt his teeth scrape against her, "No way in hell. You accepted me now you're stuck with me, problems and all."
She wrapped her arms around his neck as she felt his mouth descend upon hers once more.
Come what may, she knew that she wouldn't regret this moment.
