Welcome to my third ever AU fic! I hope I did it justice! I just had this idea pop into my head and had to write it before I forgot, so for all you lovers of my fiction 'Broken', don't worry! I'll be continuing with that story now that I got this one done.
Summary: Kagome is a barista at the Shikon Café. Inuyasha is the cook in the kitchen. It was love at first sight, but neither of them has had the confidence to admit it. About a year has gone by and their friends Sango and Miroku decided it's high time for the idiots to finally admit it already!

Finally!
Kagome Higurashi groans as her alarm clock goes off first thing in the morning. She rolls over in bed and reaches to the side table to shut the annoying beeping up, and then she sighs as she begins to drift back into dreamland.
After a few more minutes of laying there, wishing she didn't have to get up for work, her eyes shot open and a smile broke out across her face. She quickly sits up in bed and stretches her aching limbs, before standing up to get ready to go.
She never thought she would be excited to go to work. Especially a minimum wage job as a barista at a café. Sure she gets free coffee and works beside her best friend, but she isnota morning person. And since she works where they sell coffee, tea and breakfast, she has to get up at six in the morning at the absolute latest, be there by six fourty five, and be smiling for customers by seven.
Her reasoning for being so excited to actually get out of bed at an ungodly hour, is the absolute Adonis who works in the kitchen behind her coffee station. He has long silver hair which he puts up in a messy bun while cooking, amazingly sexy golden eyes that remind her of the sunset and sunrise, and incredibly adorable doggie ears on the top of his head.
She remembers the first day they met just over a year ago. She was going into work, tired and yawning, when she saw his ears twitch from across the café. Her eyes snapped to his and it was like the world around them had stopped. It was just her and this mystery man.
She was lost in a trance of gold, white and red. His golden eyes bore into hers as if they didn't have anywhere else to be. His silver hair was flowing down his back, and his twitching dog ears were pointed forward in her direction. He was wearing a bright crimson muscle shirt that left very little to the imagination, showing her he definitely has a six pack hidden underneath. He was wearing form fitting jeans that hugged his physique deliciously.
She had unconsciously licked her suddenly dry lips as she stared at him. More like oggled him... Then she was taken out of her daydream of climbing him like a tree, by none other than her boss.
"Kagome! I'd like you to meet an old friend of mine, Inuyasha Taisho. He will be working as our new cook."
Kagome looked over to Miroku and smiled at him before locking her eyes back with Inuyasha, who happened to be standing right in front of her.
When did he get so close?
She had taken a deep breath in and nearly swooned at the smell of his cologne. Which surprised her to say the least. She has never enjoyed the smell of cologne. It usually made her dizzy and want to throw up, but his... Fuck, she just wanted to rip his clothes off to see if he tasted as good as he looks and smells...
"Kagome? You alright?" Miroku asked with slight amusement in his tone of voice.
She shook her head as she looked from Miroku to Inuyasha. She blushed as she held her hand out. "Uh, s-sorry. Welcome to Shikon."
Inuyasha had reached forward to shake her hand and she nearly collapsed at the electricity she felt at his touch. He pulled away quickly, startling her but then he responded like nothing happened.
"Keh. Thanks..."
Kagome shakes her head free of the memory from when they first met and finishes up her shower. She wishes she would have known what he was thinking back then. Why was he so stand off ish? And why did she feel such a strong pull towards someone she didn't even know?
It's not like she has never dated before. Hell, she isn't even a virgin! But looking at that man made her feel like one all over again.
No, she hasn't slept around or anything. She has been with exactly two people. And only once with each of them. The first was a boy she started dating in middle school and broke up with senior year of high school. His name was Hojo and he was the sweetest boy who always brought her gifts, but something had seemed off for a little while. She just shrugged it off, assuming he was just shy.
They slept together on the night of her prom senior year and to put it bluntly, it was very underwhelming.
He could barely keep it up and she didn't even come close to orgasm. She wasn't angry with him, more worried that there could be an issue, but she didn't want to embarrass him. But then, the day before graduation, he had come to her and apologized, before coming out, telling her he is gay and he couldn't keep pretending anymore.
She was shocked and more than a little hurt. Obviously, she didn't mind that he was gay. It was the fact that she spent four years with the kid and she felt used. She gave her virginity to him and the whole thing just felt so wrong.
But they left it on semi-good terms. She didn't hold it against him and he felt really bad about the whole thing. She had sworn then that she would be extra careful before sleeping with another guy.
Then she had met Koga, a sexy wolf demon that had gone to the same University as her. She was a freshman and he was a junior when they met. He had immediately flirted with her, telling her that she is beautiful and would one day be his woman.
She told him off right away, saying that he can't just claim her as his. She is human with human feelings, not someone to get off on and use.
Koga had looked so hurt, that she immediately felt bad for yelling at him. She apologized and explained that she only just gotten out of a long term relationship a few months prior. He had smiled and held his hand out to reintroduce himself as her new friend. She had blushed and taken his hand in hers.
Their friendship had gotten stronger and she felt herself growing closer to him by the day. When she was a sophomore and he was a senior, he had come to visit her dorm room almost every day, until one day she threw herself at him and kissed him for all she was worth.
He had reciprocated immediately, kissing her and then dragging his fangs along her throat. She didn't realize how much she would like fangs and claws until he made her skin burn with need.
When they were in the throws of passion, finishing with a cry of each other's names, he had bitten down on her shoulder. She gasped, knowing exactly what he was doing from growing up as a Miko in a shrine.
"Koga! Don't mark me!" She had yelled out.
Maybe if they were further in their relationship and promised to marry, she would have agreed happily. But they hadn't even talked about it, and it is one of the biggest commitments a person can make, especially a human who's lifespan would be altered forever.
Koga only growled, too lost in his lust to obey as his fangs sunk deeper and deeper into her flesh. Kagome had a single tear fall as she placed her hands to his chest and zapped him just enough for him to get thrown off of her. She had managed to do this just in time, before his knot swelled to tie them together.
She had put a hand to her neck and sighed in relief at the unfinished mark that should be gone by the next morning. She wrapped herself up in a blanket and locked eyes with the wide eyed wolf demon.
"K-Kagome... I'm sorry!"
Kagome shook her head as she looked away. "You should go... This was a mistake."
Koga growled and tried to step closer to her, only for her entire body to glow a threatening pink. He backed up and got dressed before leaving quietly with his head down and tail between his legs.
Kagome cleaned herself up, dressed, and looked in the mirror at the fading mark on her neck. 'A human screwed with my feelings, and a demon tried to force his mark on me... Maybe I should just give up on love...'
That was nearly two years ago. She hasn't tried to be with anyone since, even Inuyasha who she had felt was love at first sight. But she is afraid to try again. Both times she has given herself away, it ended badly. She is afraid that if she allowed her heart to open up again, it would just backfire on her.
So for the past year since she had met the hanyou who had stolen her heart, she has been a good friend to him. She has pretended that she doesn't touch herself at night while moaning out his name. She pretends that she doesn't wish she could rub his ears while having him bury himself inside of her. She pretends she isn't head over heels in love with him...
Kagome shook her head of her thoughts as she made it towards her work with just five minutes to spare. She opened the front doors, hearing the small chime as she did so, and smiled widely at Sango who was already behind the counter.
Sango looked up and gave her friend a smile. "Hey Kags. I'll get your usual made while you clock in."
"Thanks Sango! Kami knows I could use a coffee this morning." She chuckled as she went over towards the kitchen, the only way to get behind her counter was to go through there, and pass by Inuyasha on the way. "Hey." She sweetly said to him, watching his adorable ears twitch in her direction.
Inuyasha turned from his spot prepping for the day and blushed slightly. "Uh, hi."
Inuyasha remembers the day he met Kagome Higurashi like it was yesterday. When she had walked in and looked at him, his entire body warmed. At first he thought she was prejudiced about his hanyou nature, especially feeling the amount of reiki she had.
But then his nose twitched and he could smell it. Her desire. He couldn't think about much, just that this beautiful woman wanted him.
But quickly more fears pushed themself into his mind. What if she just has a weird hanyou fetish and wants to fuck him and leave? He wouldn't do that, even if she payed him. No, he was still a virgin and for good reason too. People don't actually want to be with a hanyou. Hanyou are disgusting creatures and not meant to find love.
His ex girlfriend Kikyo, wanted to be with him as a human, but he refused to tell her when his human night was. No one but his mother and father knew, and he planned to keep it that way unless he was to get married. Which was very unlikely. And the way Kikyo had only seemed interested to know what he looked like as a human, really began to eat at him.
But he stayed, because he loved her. Or, he thought he did. Truth is, he was just scared to be alone after someone finally showed some interest in him, and gave him the type of kindness he wasn't used to receiving.
Then something completely unexpected happened... Kikyo wanted to take the next step in their relationship, even while he was in his hanyou form. He was ecstatic and nervous, being eighteen at the time and a virgin, never so much as kissed anyone but her and only a few times before.
So when they were kissing pretty heatedly and undressing each other, he began to feel something he had never felt before. Desire for someone. He had dropped his pants and she stepped back to look at him.
And her face fell in disgust.
She looked absolutely horrified.
His ears drooped and he felt heat rush all the way to the tips of his ears.
"What the hell?" She had said.
Inuyasha's erection immediately began to soften as she spoke. He knew he wasn't completely human, but he also knew that it wasn't far off. He does turn human once a month, so it's not like he doesn't have something to compare it to.
"K-Kikyo..."
She pulled her clothes back on and began to walk out of his bedroom. She turned to give him another disgusted look. "I did not sign up to touch that! I knew you weren't a full human, but you could have at least told me you weren't human below the waist!" Then she stormed out and they haven't spoken since.
A year in a relationship with her to end like that.
He promised he would never put himself in that type of situation again. He didn't even take his friend Miroku's advice to go out on his human night to be with someone. It felt wrong and disgusting. He'd rather not be with anyone at all, than do something like that.
Even three years later, cooking at Shikon and having fallen for Kagome Higurashi nearly a year ago... he still refuses to try again. What if it went wrong? What if they were to... and then she laughed at him and told him he was disgusting? He doesn't think he can handle that, especially after becoming friends with her.
The fact that he touches himself at night while moaning out her name, just makes himself feel even more revolting. Someone as pure and as beautiful as Kagome doesn't deserve to even be in a half-breeds thoughts, let alone while he is moaning and wishing he was buried deep inside of her...
He shook his head from his thoughts and watched as Kagome was clocking in on the computer, and then putting her barista apron on to begin her day. He sighed as he continued with his own work.
Kagome walked up next to Sango and sighed in happiness when she was handed her favorite morning beverage; a large French Vanilla Latte with an extra shot of espresso, whipped cream and chocolate drizzle on top.
"You are a life saver!" She took a sip of her dream drink and moaned allowed.
Sango laughed as she sipped on her own hot beverage. "I swear, you are addicted to coffee."
Kagome gave her friend a mock glare. "I could stop anytime I wanted to."
Sango laughed and shook her head. "That's exactly what an addict would say."
Kagome grinned as she looked between Sango and the drink in her hand. "Hey, shouldn't you be careful about drinking that right now?"
Sango placed a hand to her swollen stomach and smiled. "It's fine, Miroku is making me drink decaf." She made a disgusted face which only had Kagome giggle louder.
Kagome placed her hand on Sango's stomach and her smile widened. "I can't believe you're gonna have another one! No twins this time, right?" She teased lightly.
Sango chuckled. "Kami no! I think one set is enough, thank you!"
Kagome's response was cut short when a tall man with sparkling indigo eyes behind the counter spoke up. "I think that next time, we could shoot for twin boys! Maybe even triplets."
Kagome laughed while Sango blanched. "No way! I will never allow you access to me below the waist ever again, you pervert!"
Miroku chuckled. "What about you, Kagome? Any man in your life you would want to share this special moment with?" He asked her knowingly.
Miroku and Sango have known since the first day Kagome and Inuyasha met that they were destined for each other. It was so painstakingly obvious to anyone, but the ignorant couple themselves. The looks that those two would give each other when the other wasn't looking, the way Kagome always tried to bring up friendly conversation, only for Inuyasha to blush and respond gruffly... They are so in love and Miroku and Sango have decided to stop waiting around and to just do something about their idiotic friends.
Even if they have to lock them in a room together.
Kagome blushed as she unconsciously glanced towards the kitchen and back, blushing even harder at her friends amused faces. "Wh-What? I... I'm only twenty one, Miroku! No need to rush things..."
Sango rubbed her stomach and smiled. "I'm twenty three and on my second pregnancy, third child, and Miroku is twenty five. You're never too young to find love. If you like someone, why not give it a chance?"
Kagome bit her lip nervously before taking a drink of her latte, trying to hide the strong burning redness in her cheeks. She decided a change in subject was in order. "So, um... How are the twins?"
Miroku laughed at her obvious dodge and shook his head. "Doing well. They are with Kaede, probably being spoiled rotten."
Kagome smiled and nodded. "Kaede is definitely the type of woman to spoil young children."
They heard the chime of the door and looked over to see the final employee step through.
The young bussboy trotted in and smiled a full fanged grin at everyone. "Hey guys!"
Kagome waved as she took another sip of paradise. How someone could be so chipper first thing on a Saturday morning without any coffee, is beyond her comprehension. "Hey, Shippo."
Shippo nodded as his fox tail twitched before walking towards the back to clock in. He passed by Inuyasha, noticing the Inu hanyou's growl and chuckled, enjoying this little game they play.
"Hey, haven't made a move on her yet?"
Inuyasha growled even louder as his face turned redder. "That ain't none of your damn business kid!"
Shippo only laughed as a bigger grin spread across his face. "You're telling me, that you can't smell her desire for you? Is your nose broken, doggie?"
Inuyasha's blush now may be a permanent reminder of this embarrassment. "Wh-What!? Y-You're too young for that!"
Shippo rolled his eyes. "I'm a kitsune. I grew up with demon parents and a demon nose, I understand these things." He shrugged his shoulders. "Plus, most humans at sixteen are already having sex."
Inuyasha looked worriedly from the kitsune over to the other side of the wall, hoping they aren't being listened to. "Look, I don't care how old you are! It ain't your business what I do or don't do with Kagome!" He whisper yelled it so they wouldn't be overheard.
Shippo laughed as he went on his way to clock in. "Whatever. Don't take your anger out on me when she comes in smelling of some other demon or human because you won't make a move..." He whistled to himself as he clocked in and went towards the dishwasher.
Inuyasha's ears drooped as he looked towards the wall and through the small window that separates him from Kagome... The woman he managed to fall in love with faster than he could even blink...
After working from open until close, which is from seven in the morning until three in the afternoon, since they are a breakfast café, Kagome sighed and clocked out. Sango stepped up to her and smiled.
"Wanna get some drinks with us? The twins are staying the night with Kohaku and our father, so we are free to go out and have some fun."
Kagome knew she shouldn't be a hermit and stay in, but she had a date with her vibrator! She had been watching Inuyasha all day between cooking and calling out orders, and she is more than hot and bothered at watching his muscles flex within the confines of his shirt.
But she also feels bad that she doesn't get to spend as much time with her friends as she would like. She could always reschedule her date for later...
"Uhm, sure. Why not? I could use a drink." She shrugged her shoulders as she grabbed her coat and shrugged it on.
Inuyasha was about to walk out behind Shippo who had just left, when Miroku stopped him with a hand to his arm. "Hey, where're ya goin', my friend?"
Inuyasha growled as he looked at Miroku warily. "Home."
Miroku chuckled. "Why not come out for a few drinks? Kids are with their uncle so I'm free."
Inuyasha was annoyed to say the least. He has spent the entire day smelling Kagome's delectable scent and every emotion that that scent gives off. He could hear her melodic giggles and he could see her raven hair and rosy cheeks through the window where he gives out his orders. He was just going to go home and jerk off until he couldn't comprehend his own name.
"Keh, I'm busy tonight..."
Miroku grinned mischievously. "Too busy to spend a night out with your friends? Kagome will be coming..."
Inuyasha's ears perked up as his half massed erection fully sprang to life within the tight confines of his jeans. He inwardly groaned. On one hand, he could torture himself by spending some time with Kagome, probably giving him blue balls in the process... On the other hand, he could have some knew images of the woman of his dreams for him to cum to later...
His face burned as he shook himself free of those hentai thoughts. Those are reserved for the privacy of his bedroom. "Feh, whatever."
Miroku smiled as he replied. "Great! Let's all walk together."
Kagome and Sango came out from the back at that exact moment, Kagome and Inuyasha's eyes connecting with matching blushes on their cheeks.
Kagome glared at her friend who looked way too innocent, before sighing and shaking her head. "Well... I could definitely use a drink. Let's go!"
As they walked towards the nearby bar, Kagome was walking with Sango and Inuyasha was walking side by side with Miroku in front of the girls.
Both Sango and Miroku were currently getting reamed out about this obvious set up. The conversations are similar to each other, and Inuyasha is so caught up with his own conversation that even his dog ears aren't picking anything up from Kagome's.
"Really Sango? I know you are trying to set us up! I told you I'm not ready for something like that after how crappy my last two relationships went..."
Sango looped her right arm in with Kagome's left and held her tight. "It's been two years, Kags... and Inuyasha isn't like those guys. One, he's not gay and two, he isn't going to do anything without your consent."
Kagome sighed as she chanced a glance at the man of her dreams. He seemed to be in his own heated discussion. She shook her head and looked down at the sidewalk. "I don't know... What would I even say? He's so... and I'm so... Ughhh. I'm hopeless..."
Sango laughed lightly as she squeezed her friend's arm in reassurance. "You are not hopeless. And you are gorgeous! Don't think otherwise. How about tonight, you just drink and have fun like friends and see where it leads you?"
Kagome blushed as she nodded reluctantly. "F-Fine... but this is blackmail!"
Sango rested her head on Kagome's shoulder. "I'll give you my free coffees for a week and then I won't even say 'I told you so' when you guys finally bang."
Kagome blushed ten shades darker than before. "Th-That is not gonna happen!" she hissed through her clenched teeth.
Sango only laughed and continued walking in comfortable silence.
Inuyasha growled under his breath as he glowered at the baka beside him. "You. Are. An. Asshole."
Miroku put a hand to his chest and feined hurt. "You wound me, my friend! Would an asshole bring you out to a lovely bar for some drinks with some friends?"
Inuyasha's eye twitched. "You are tryin' to set me up with Kagome after I specifically told ya not to! What the hell are ya thinkin'?"
Miroku sighed as he looked over at Inuyasha seriously. "I'm thinking that you have been alone for way too long and Kagome is good for you."
Inuyasha was too upset to even blush. He only growled and crossed his arms. "I can't... Not after what happened before..."
Miroku pinched the bridge of his nose in exasperation. "Kikyo was a bitch who didn't deserve you." He gave Inuyasha a look that meant to shut him up from any defense he would make on Kikyo's behalf. "No. Listen to me. No woman with a kind heart would have been so cruel. If she truly loved you, she wouldn't have done such a thing. I know that Kagome isn't like that. What's the harm in trying? And anyway, you can't ignore the bond you told me was there."
Inuyasha's ears drooped as he looked down at the ground. "It was one thing to happen as a teenager with my first and only girlfriend. But as a twenty one year old virgin?" He shook his head. "It's embarrassing and I won't ruin my growing friendship with Kagome 'cuz of some impossible fantasy. Even if she is my youkai's chosen mate, I can't force her to love a hanyou. She... She'd be better off with either a full human or full demon."
Miroku sighed. "As much as I disagree, I understand where you are coming from, but just use this time to hang out as friends then. What's the harm in that?"
Inuyasha growled lightly and rolled his eyes. "Feh. Whatever. Fuckin' meddlin' dick..."
Miroku laughed as he put a hand on Inuyasha's shoulder. "You will thank me later, my friend. I guarantee it."
Inuyasha glanced over and saw the usual lecherous grin and sparkle in Miroku's indigo eyes, making him groan and wish he'd just gone home to wallow in his own self pity some more...
Maybe while thinking about Kagome writhing beneath him.
He shook his head of his thoughts as they continued to the bar in very uncomfortable silence.
When the four friends made it to their destination, Miroku held the door open for the others. They all entered and then chose a nice booth so they could sit comfortably while also having a bite to eat.
Sango sat down closest to the wall on one side with Miroku directly across from her. Kagome slid in beside Sango and Inuyasha sat rigidly across from Kagome.
After the waiter gave them a moment to get comfortable, he smiled warmly at them. "Hello, my name is Akio. How are you doing this evening? Could I interest you in something to drink?"
Miroku smiled as he was the first to respond. "Could we have a pitcher of beer to share?"
The waiter nodded happily as he wrote that down. "Anything else?" He looked at the others and Kagome happily spoke up, needing something to calm her nerves.
"Hai, I'll have a Shōchū mixed with green tea, please."
Sango piped up, "I'll have the same."
Akio nodded happily as he finished writing that down. "And for you sir?" He motioned towards Inuyasha.
"Uh, I'm good with just the beer. Thanks..."
"Alright, I'll be right back with your drinks while you look at the menus."
They all nodded as the waiter left. Miroku looked at Kagome and gave her a small grin. "So, Kagome... something bothering you? You aren't one to drink more than just a beer every now and then."
Kagome glowered at him before smiling like nothing was amiss. "Oh, I just figured what the hell?" She shrugged her shoulders. "I could definitely use a drink at the moment..." She chuckled nervously as she tried really hard not to stare at the man directly in front of her. 'Is it possible to have a cologne fetish? He smells so good! Ah, Kagome, chill!' She shook her head as she looked down at the time on her watch which read almost four. Still a little early, but not too early for a drink or two on the weekend.
Sango placed a hand on Kagome's leg to stop it from shaking and gave her a pointed look. "I have to use the restroom. Come with me?"
Kagome nodded and stood up, walking towards the bathroom with her friend.
Miroku sighed as the girls left and looked to Inuyasha. "Why are you so quiet?"
Inuyasha clenched his hands together in irritation. "I can't do this, Miroku. She's too... Fuck, she's just too perfect for me..."
Miroku shook his head. "Didn't I say just to be her friend? Why don't you walk her home after we're done here?"
Inuyasha's eyes snapped to his in horror. "What!? Are you insane, you baka? I can't do that! That would be... uh... wrong..."
Miroku chuckled quietly. "So, you two have never hung out outside of work?"
Inuyasha blushed. "O-Of course we have..."
"Without me or Sango?"
Inuyasha's ears drooped. "Keh... What does it matter? She can't love a hanyou... No one can..."
Miroku shook his head. "Girls like confidence, you know. Do what I did to get Sango."
Now Inuyasha's face matched the color of his shirt. "I ain't gonna grab her ass every fuckin' chance I get, you perv!"
Miroku laughed once again. "I meant, pay her a compliment every once in a while. Tell her she looks nice." He shrugged his shoulders. "Ya know, girls like that stuff."
Inuyasha just growled as even the whites of his ears gained a small pink hue.
Kagome stepped into the bathroom and crossed her arms as she looked at Sango. "What is it?"
Sango turned on the sink to wash her hands as she spoke. "Make a move on him."
Kagome groaned as she rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming. "First of all, even if I were to do that, how would I even start? I don't know the first thing about making a move..."
Sango laughed. "You told me that you literally jumped Koga when he walked up to you. It can't be that hard to do. Just do whatever you did then." She shrugged her shoulders as if this was just so simple.
"Sango... It's just..." She sighed as she looked into the mirror and grasped the countertop. "I... I really like him... I never felt this way before... Hojo was sweet and everything, but he didn't get my heart fluttering like Inuyasha... Koga was attractive and confident about what he wanted but... I realized how not right that was. Inuyasha..." She shook her head before locking her gaze with Sango. "I... I really love him... If I were to do something stupid that could ruin whatever the hell we even have now, I would hate myself for it..."
Sango dried her hands off and threw the paper towel away before facing Kagome fully and grabbing her hand. "I know it can be scary... but if you don't do something and regret it for the rest of your life? What then? What about the day he comes to us and introduces us to his new girlfriend... Are you going to be able to forgive yourself then?" She sighed as she gave her friend's hand a squeeze. "I think if it was meant to be, it will be. And if you take the chance, something great may come of it. Just think about it, okay?"
Kagome took a deep breath in and nodded her head. "I... I'll think about it..."
When Kagome and Sango came back to the table, the drinks were already there waiting for them. Kagome immediately picked her fruity beverage up and drank half of it in one go. If she was going to attempt anything at all, she needs to loosen up a bit.
Throughout the next two hours, Kagome has thrown back three glasses of beer and two glasses of Shōchū. She made sure to space her drinks out, so she isn't drunk off her ass, but she is definitely buzzed.
