"Ummm..." Bella said as the girls were settled in their car seats and I shut the door.
Here comes the list of instructions!
"Yes?" I said.
"Remind them to drink more water. They've been complaining a lot about the tummy pain." She said.
"Okay," I said.
"Don't give them too many candies." She said.
"Okay," I said.
"Not too much ice-cream either," she said.
"I know," I said.
"Don't let them watch too much TV." She said, "They're already spending way too much time on TV and iPad."
"Bella... I know." I said, "You don't need to give me all these instructions all the time!"
"Well, I think you're spoiling them," she said.
"Seriously? I hardly get to spend a few days with them... Of course I'm going to spoil them!" I said.
She glared at me.
"What?" I said, "And they're four. It's okay if they have some fun!"
"I guess there is no point arguing with you," she said.
"I guess so," I said.
"I don't know what to do with you," she shook her head and waved at the girls.
"Bye, Mommy!" They said.
"Bye! Love you!" She blew kisses at them.
"I guess you should get going..." she said to me as she was still looking at the girls.
She didn't want to spend any time away from the girls. I got it. I didn't like that either!
And everything would just be fine if she wasn't so stubborn!
"Bye." I said.
"Bye." she said.
"Daddy... Can I ask something?" Leah asked as soon as I started driving.
"Anything." I said.
"I asked Mommy first, but she said No!" She said.
I had got such smart kids! They knew Daddy wasn't going to say 'No' to anything!
"Why can't we all stay together?" she said.
Huh!
That wasn't something I was expecting!
Well, because your Mom is an idiot... and stubborn! I wanted to say.
"Because..."
Well, sometimes I felt I still hadn't figured out how to talk to a four year old.
"Because we are separated," I said.
"Separated?" She said.
"So we all can't stay together because Mommy and you are divorced?" Jane said.
"Well, not exactly..." I said.
I mean, we were never married!
"Ummm... You get a divorce only if you are married. We were never married..." I said.
"What?" They said in unison.
"What?" I said.
"Mommy and you didn't get married?" Jane asked.
"Yeah?" I said.
Well, they seemed surprised to know that. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned all the details? I wasn't sure.
"What?" They said.
"What?" I said.
"I thought all Mommy and Daddy get married..." Jane said.
"Ummm... Well..." I sighed.
"Then I think you should get married," Leah said.
