Day 1

Prompt: Surprise

It was Prom night at Gravesfield High and Luz was sitting with her adoptive sister Vee and her partner, Masha. Luz, at first, really didn't want to go, but Vee and Masha were insistent she should join them. Luz didn't want to be the third wheel, so to speak, but she didn't want to disappoint her sister. However unknown to her, Vee and Masha had an ulterior motive for wanting Luz to join them. Luz was wearing a red frilly tuxedo dress, Masha was wearing a green sparkling dress, and Vee was shapeshifted into a yellow dress. The three were currently sitting and talking among each other. Even though Luz originally didn't want to go, she always had a good time hanging out with Vee and Masha. Suddenly a soft song started playing.

"Oh, I love this song! Wanna dance?" Masha asked Vee.

"Sure. But what about..." Vee started to say before Luz interrupted.

"It's okay. You two go dance and have fun, I'll be fine." Luz insisted.

Vee nodded and took Masha's hand and went to the dance floor.

"I feel bad for leaving Luz alone…" Vee admitted.

"Don't be." Masha replied and showed Vee a text on their phone, "She won't be alone for long."

Luz watched Vee and Masha dance from her table. Her heart swelled for her adoptive sister and was so happy that Vee found someone who made her happy.

"Well, well, well," Luz heard someone from behind her say.

Luz turned to see a blonde named Amber and her two friends Stacy and Madison, whom Luz had known for a while and was not on good terms with.

"Hello, Amber. How's things going with you?" Luz said in a flat voice.

"So the freak decided to come to prom after all." Amber mocked, "Awwww, but poor Luz is all alone!"

Luz let out a sigh trying to take the high road, "I'm just here to make sure my sister is okay and her first dance goes well," Luz half lied she didn't want to sound pathetic to her bully, "Besides I don't see your date, did you come alone?"

Amber laughs, "I decided to get a date while I was here, and I can get any guy or girl I want while I'm here." She looks Behind Luz and then gives her a sly smile, "In fact, here comes a stunning lavender-haired girl coming this way."

"Whatever, Am… wait, what!?" Luz responded.

Luz turned around and saw Amity coming from behind her wearing a black and purple dress.

Amber walked up to Amity "Hello there, you beautiful— wha?"

Amity just walks right past her and doesn't even acknowledge Amber. Amber is stunned that someone just did that to her and turns to look back at Amity

Amity grabs Luz's shoulders and places a gentle kiss on her lips, "Sorry I'm late, batata."

Amber looks shocked that the beautiful cotton candy-haired girl kissed Luz; she didn't even know that Luz was dating someone, let alone a beautiful girl like Amity.

"W-What is going on!?"Amber asked, extremely confused.

"Amber, this is Amity Blight. She is my girlfriend."

Amber's jaw dropped. She couldn't believe Luz, of all people, got a beautiful girlfriend.

"Shall we?" Amity asked as she held her hand out to Luz.

"Of course we shall, sweet potato." Luz grabbed her hand and they went to the dance floor.

Amber, still silent, just watched the two walk off.

"That was embarrassing," Stacy said.

"Shut up!" Amber replied and looked at Madison who was just looking at Luz and Amity. "You got anything to say?!"

Madison smiled, "I ship them."

Luz and Amity are now dancing on the dance floor, looking into each other's eyes.

"You know." Amity said, moving a strand of hair from her face, "It's nice to be able to dance and not worry about a monster."

Luz let out a small giggle before speaking, "How did you know today was prom?"

"Vee and Masha told me. So we planned this like 2 weeks ago to surprise you."

Luz shook her head and smiled, "I should have known."

Amity pulled Luz closer to her as they continued to dance.

"Y-you look very pretty." Luz stuttered, "I mean, you always do, but today you look absolutely radiant!"

Amity's face turned all red, "We've been dating all this time and my face still turns into a tomato when you say things like that."

"That's why I do it." Luz teased, "Your blushing is so cute."

Amity rolled her eyes, "You're such a dork." Amity placed her forehead on Luz's. "And I love you for that."

Luz looked into the gold eyes that she adored more than anything, "I love you so much."

"I love you too, Luz," Amity replied.

The two shared a very passionate kiss when suddenly a flash went off.

"What the?"

They turned and saw Masha with their phone, "Sorry to ruin the moment, you two are just so cute I couldn't help it!"

Vee interjected, "They got my vote for prom queens."

Masha nodded, "I agree with you on that, hun. In fact……." Masha walked up to the DJ and whispered something in his ear

The DJ gave Masha the mike, "Hey everyone I hope everyone is having a great prom! Now, if I may have your attention, please, my friends are attending their first dance as a couple here. The light guy put a spotlight on the brown-haired and lavender-haired girl." The guy working the spotlight did as Masha told him. "Now, if you don't mind, clear the dance floor for a bit and let them show their dance skills." Masha gave the mike back and went back to Vee's side.

Everyone cleared the dance floor. Some did it out of curiosity so did hoping the two make fools out of themselves. Regardless they moved. Luz and Amity looked at each other briefly before taking each other's hands. The two danced uniquely but elegantly, much like their dance during grom a while back. Luz and Amity didn't consider themselves good dancers, but with each other, something awakens. They danced for about 6 straight minutes before stopping. The crowd was silent in disbelief before erupting in cheers.

"Well," The student council president said over the mike, "I think we have found our prom, Queens! All in favor, say I!"

The crowd almost unanimously said "I," all except Amber, who just looked Annoyed the entire time, still in disbelief.

The student council president came to Luz and Amity and placed crowns on their heads, "This is the first time we had 2 prom queens but there is no rule saying there can't be"

The crowd applauded the couple

"You like your surprise, Luz?" Amity asked

Luz turned to her and smiled, "Absolutely!"
