Welcome back to A Song of Spiders and Dragons. Last time, the alarm at the auction house holding the Fisk estate sale turned out to be a hostage crisis as strange masked figures took the place over. Testing out some functions of their vests, namely Spyro's invisibility, our terrific trio managed to take out all the guards, but one, who found them. But they were saved by a trio of old friends: MJ, Flame, and Ember. Apparently they're investigating this place for the Daily Bugle, unofficially. So, what happened to them? Read on to discover...
(Our story resumes not where we left it, but about 15 minutes earlier, as MJ, Flame, and Ember walk into the auction house, only to be noticed by the future hostage)
Roseman: Hello?
MJ: Mary Jane Watson, here to cover the Fisk estate sale. These are my cohorts, Ember and Flame.
Ember: A pleasure.
Flame: Nice to meet you.
Roseman: Huh. Craig said the reporters would be here tomorrow.
MJ: We always prefer to get a jump on things.
Roseman: Sadly for you, I don't. You'll have to come back tomorrow.
MJ: Right. Sorry to disturb you.
(And with that, the three start to leave, only for MJ to pull out her phone and make a call)
MJ: (Into the phone) Hey Craig. No, sorry. It just looks like we're going to have to run another story for the cover. Not sure. Maybe that expressionist piece?
(This catches Roseman's attention, and she starts walking back over)
Roseman: You know what? Today works perfectly.
Ember: You sure? We can totally come back in the morning.
Roseman: Why not? No time like the present. Take a moment to familiarize yourselves with the displays. I'll be waiting by the Nioh relief when you're ready to begin.
Flame: Excellent. (Gives a signal to MJ) We'll get some backdrop shots. Should make an interesting digital gallery.
MJ: (Still into her phone) Craig? Scratch everything I just said. We're all good here.
(As MJ takes the phone away from her ear, we briefly hear that she was actually calling the DMV, but hangs up before Roseman notices. With their cover established, the trio of journalists sneaks in and starts taking photos while noting some of the items)
Flame: This guy had a real obsession with Feudal Japan. Not that I'm complaining, it makes for a nice aesthetic.
Ember: (Examining a box) Symkarian cigars? Didn't he quit smoking a long time ago?
MJ: (Looking at a katana, then to herself) Fisk cut Peter open like a sausage with this thing first time they fought.
Flame: (Having heard her) Not to mention almost severed Cynder's tail.
MJ: Had to steal dad's car to get those three to the hospital. First of too many Nurse MJ moments.
(Having gotten all the photos they need, the group joins Roseman at the relief, where MJ snaps a photograph of her in front of the giant artwork depicting two demon looking figures)
Roseman: This magnificent piece exemplifies the traditional tarashikomi puddled-ink effect.
Ember: A very imposing pair of Nioh. I can see why Fisk loved this piece.
Flame: I'd say it fits his aesthetic.
Roseman: He really appreciated it's duality. "Destruction screams, but creation toils in silence" I believe was what he said about it.
MJ: Was there ever anything... unusual about any sales you handled for Mr. Fisk?
Roseman: Not that I ever noticed. (Gestures to a tea set) Please notice the intricate gold work on this ceremonial tea set.
Ember: It's just that... a friend of ours in the DA's office mentioned that Fisk used art sales to launder stolen goods in his day.
Roseman: (Now getting nervous) I wouldn't know anything about that.
Flame: Just curious if you've noticed anything seemed sketchy in retrospect. You know, now that he's been arrested and all that.
Roseman: (Needing to get rid of them) You know what? Let's grab the cover photo now, I'm running short of time.
MJ: And you know what's really weird? When we told our DA friend there was a story on you in the works, he mentioned that your name sounded familiar.
Roseman: (Now really suspicious) Just the photo please.
MJ: Off the record of course, are you sure there's nothing you want to say about Fisk's activities?
Roseman: I'm not sure your readers would have any interest in...
(Just as she's about to make a rebuttal, Roseman's phone rings, which she goes and picks up in another room, revealing a strange statue.)
Ember: (Noticing the statue) MJ, you seeing this? That statue shouldn't be here!
MJ: Way ahead of you. (Snaps a photo) Now let's get moving.
Roseman: Craig, I'm going to need to call you back.
Flame: Good timing, she's onto us!
Roseman: I'm afraid you three need to leave.
Flame: Really? I hate to leave so soon. This is a lovely space.
Roseman: And this will be the last time you ever see it.
Ember: Actually, do you have a restroom nearby?
Roseman: Around the corner, be quick.
(With that, Roseman gets on her cell phone to call Craig back. While we can't hear the conversation, our journalistic trio takes this opportunity to sneak around the auction house, heading towards the office she was just in, staring down the suspicious statue)
Flame: If I remember this correctly from Spyro's notes, Fisk used this thing to hide evidence.
Ember: So why is it here rather than in the police evidence room?
MJ: This thing opens, we're all sure of that. But... how?
(Knowing they need to find the key, the group splits up, and Flame eventually finds something)
Flame: Well, looks like miss unfriendly auctioneer was buddy buddy with Fisk after all!
Ember: And there's the statue in the background! (Notices something) Wait, does it look... different to anyone else?
MJ: Yeah. Hold on a second.
(With that, MJ grabs a dual pointed spear looking object and places it in the statue's open hand, opening a secret panel in the bottom with a single file.)
MJ: Got it! (Picks up the file) Norman Osborn? Devil's Breath? What's going on here?
(At this point, a startling noise can be heard. As our trio of journalists investigate, we see the masked figures from earlier have arrived, looking for undoubtedly the file MJ is currently holding)
Ember: Don't look now, but we've got trouble!
(Thankfully, by the time the masked men burst into the office, the trio has snuck into the backroom, bringing our story back to the present day, where they're explaining all of this to Spyro, Cynder, and Spider-Man)
MJ: We were just on our way to the exit when we bumped into you three.
Spider-Man: At this rate you three are lucky to be alive!
Flame: Remind us who just saved whom?
Ember: (Grabs the file) Look, whoever these guys are, they're after this file. But we can't sneak it out of here while the place is crawling with them.
Spyro: Leave that to us. Hide in the back. We'll clear the place out then get you out.
MJ: Right. (Looking back briefly as her team runs) It's good to see you three again.
Spider-Man: Same here, though this isn't exactly how I pictured us meeting again.
MJ: Weird, it's exactly how I pictured it.
(And with that, the trio of journalists exits out the back door as the trio of heroes heads up back into the auction house as our scene ends for today)
And that looks like a good place wrap up for now. So, looks like the masked figures want whatever Fisk knows about this "Devil's Breath" stuff. But what is it? For those who've played the games, don't spoil it here. So, will our now six heroes make it out of this auction house alive? Tune in next time to find out! Same time... same channel!
