Welcome back to A Song Of Spiders And Dragons! Last time, Spyro, Cynder, and Spider-Man chased a truck full of arms driven by the Demons across the city. And after just stopping it, and trying to pull a tanker out of the way of a train, Jefferson Davis stormed into the scene and took out the Demon that was about to shoot the trio dead, in public none-the-less. So, what's going to happen next? Read on to discover...
(Our scene opens up as Jefferson Davis is being sent to a hospital for a checking over after the stunt he just pulled, but we focus in through the lens of a reporter covering the scene)
Reporter: We have identified the officer involved as Jefferson Davis. Sources are telling us he sustained minor injuries from the crash, but is expected to make a full recovery.
(While the reporter makes their, well, report, a familiar trio sneak in: MJ, Ember, and Flame have returned, and immediately meet up with Spyro, Cynder, and Spider-Man, though not intentionally)
Spider-Man: Excuse me, are you three supposed to be here?
Ember: More than you three are.
MJ: After that stunt at the auction house, the Bugle stuck us on city duty. Which means we get to devote our full focus to real stories, like this.
Flame: As well as the Demons.
Cynder: You know the closer you get the more of a target you three are putting on your backs, right?
MJ: (Kind of fed up at this point) The closer we get, the better chance we all have to stop them!
Spyro: Got to admit, they have a point.
Spider-Man: Did anyone else notice she just said "we"?
(As the trio of heroes debates this in the back, we see MJ and company going up to Jefferson Davis)
MJ: Officer Davis. Mary Jane Watson, Daily Bugle.
Jefferson Davis: (Having been through this rigamarole before) No comment.
Ember: Believe me, Officer Davis, I don't blame you. None of us do. But these guys are going to tell their story, with or without you.
Flame: And these guys thrive on controversy.
Jefferson Davis: (As he's loaded into the back of an ambulance) So what's your angle then?
MJ: We don't have one. We just listen.
Jefferson Davis: (Impressed at their integrity) Fair enough. Hop in.
(Knowing they've got their scoop, MJ, Ember, and Flame hop into the back of the ambulance, prepared to interview Jefferson Davis, while Spyro, Cynder, and Spider-Man watch on from nearby)
Spider-Man: She's good. I'll give her that.
Spyro: She had some good teachers.
Cynder: Robbie would be proud.
Spider-Man: (Yawns) I don't know about you, but I think it's about time we headed back home and got some shuteye.
Spyro: We'll catch up with you tomorrow then.
Cynder: Agreed. See you all in the morning.
(And with that, the group slings off. Fast forward to the next morning: Spyro and Cynder are back at the Realms' Embassy, enjoying breakfast. After a few seconds, Cynder checks her phone, revealing quite the headline)
Cynder: Hey, check this out! MJ and company's story got published!
Spyro: (Reads the headline) "Hero Cop Jefferson Davis Exclusive Interview" Looks like the Bugle's hitting a new era of journalism! (Thinks about it) While we've got the phones out, better connect to the Web and see what Spidey's been up to.
(With that, the two reconnect to their shared phone line with Spider-Man, and they discover he's been trying to reach them all night)
Spyro: Sheesh, what got Pete all riled up last night?
Cynder: No idea, but he says to meet him at F.E.A.S.T. Hope he's got an explanation.
(A few minutes of flying later, and the pair of dragons have arrived at F.E.A.S.T. But as they walk into the backroom, they overhear Spider-Man talking with Aunt May)
Spider-Man: I can't take this.
Aunt May: You can, and you will.
Spider-Man: I'll pay you back, soon. I swear it.
Aunt May: Just ask for help next time. (Chuckles and sighs seemingly simultaneously) You are so much like Ben. You just have to swallow that Parker pride and accept that you're just human, like the rest of us. (Notices Spyro and Cynder at the doorway) You two realize you don't have to listen at the door, right?
Spyro: Busted like Benjamin Bunny.
Aunt May: Well come on in, don't act like strangers.
Cynder: Sorry to intrude.
Aunt May: No worries, you two are always welcome here. (Notices somebody else is at the door) Martin.
Martin Li: Looks like somebody's popular today. I hate to interrupt, but I just wanted to let you know I'm heading out of town. May, you're in charge while I'm gone.
Aunt May: You can count on me. How long will you be gone?
Martin Li: (Acting a little strange) I'm... not sure... actually.
Spider-Man: (Sensing something is up) Is everything alright?
Martin Li: (Now being really cagey) It's some... personal business... that I've been working on for a while. (Now rather melancholy) But, please, take care of this place. It represents the best part of me.
Spyro: You can count on us for that, Martin.
Martin Li: That warms my heart to hear.
(And with that, Martin Li leaves the room, and our heroic trio is following not far behind)
Spider-Man: I hope Mr. Li's okay.
Cynder: Did he sound melancholy at the end of that conversation or is that just me?
(But before anyone can answer that, the group gets a call. It's MJ and company)
Spider-Man: What's up MJ?
MJ: Did you guys see our story?
Spyro: You can bet we did! Robbie's probably over the moon about this!
Ember: Over the moon is an understatement, the thing went viral!
Flame: Well here's more breaking news, Mayor Osborn just announced he's going to be presenting Officer Davis with an award for his bravery this afternoon!
Cynder: Wait, isn't his campaign rally... (Puts it together) I see what he's doing. Typical Norman. But, got to say this is going to be huge for Jeff and his family.
MJ: Couldn't have put it better myself. We're going to be there covering the whole thing. You guys want to join us?
Spider-Man: Sure, why not? See you later.
(And as the group hangs up their call, they all seemingly forget what's up with Martin Li.)
Spider-Man: Well, looks like we've got afternoon plans.
Spyro: But before we head out, you really owe us an explanation for blowing up our network last night.
Spider-Man: That's a long story. But, to keep it short, I got evicted, almost lost my Spider-Drive, and it looks like Black Cat might be back in town. And then just as you guys found me, Aunt May just gave me a down payment.
Cynder: Sheesh, talk about a long night.
Spider-Man: I'll add this, the couch in Aunt May's office never felt more comfortable.
(And as the trio exit the F.E.A.S.T. Center to go on patrol or something, our story ends for today)
And that looks like a good spot to end for today. Those of you who know where the game is going, things are about to get intense, and you know why. But for the sake of everybody else, nobody spoil it. So, what's got Martin Li so off? Tune in next time to find out. Same time... same channel!
