"Miss Zabela." I addressed the marine.
"Don't do that, we're the same age." She replied.
"My apologies madam." I smirked seeing the frown on her face. "I was just wondering what would happen to Phoenix when we made it to the base?"
"Phoenix?" She asked.
I gestured to the chicken asleep on my head. "What are you guys gonna do to him?"
Zabela looked as if she noticed the chicken for the first time. "Has he been with you since we left?"
I nodded. "He's my bravest fighter, fights harder than even the captain. I couldn't leave him behind."
"Bravest fighter? A chicken?" She said dryly, holding back a laugh. "If that's the case I'm sure the Captain would have him thrown in the cell with you."
"Hey don't laugh, it's a very genuine concern, he's been known to attack people he doesn't know." I told her.
"I'm sure any one of our recruits can handle one chicken." She told me.
We continued sailing for hours talking about pointless things to pass the time. Things like why I decided to become a pirate, which was simply convenience. Also things like what our dreams were, mine being a peaceful life which for some reason she laughed at, and hers cleaning up the pirates so they could return to the days where no one lived in fear. That one, I laughed at.
"What's so funny about that?" She asked.
"There are people living in fear of marines, living in fear of the celestial dragons. Only way no one lives in fear is if everyone lives in fear, one person to control the world, power so absolute that no one would dare try anything."
"Is that what you're aiming for?"
I shook my head. "Nah, it ain't possible, but we could usher in some level of peace by taking down those celestial gluttons."
"Too bad you'll never be able to accomplish that."
I shrugged as night fell and after a couple more hours I saw lights in the distance.
"Looks like we made it." I spoke looking over at the woman at my side, the cuffs suddenly aflame before disappearing. "Of course she fell asleep at the final stretch." I sighed, lying down on the other side of the rowboat, deciding to sleep so she doesn't wake up embarrassed.
"Hey, get up." A voice said, shaking me awake.
I yawned as I sat up, noticing the cuffs around my wrists. "Did you not get any sleep?" I asked her.
She looked away, a drop of sweat rolling down her face. "No, that'd be irresponsible." She lied. "You could've escaped."
"Good point." I smirked. "You'd never clean up all the pirates if you're falling asleep while transporting them."
"Whatever, anyway don't say anything while we're here, some of the other recruits aren't as tolerant with pirates like the Captain and I are. They have legitimate reasons to hate people like you and I'm sure they're more than happy to show it." She warned me.
"Hey careful now, if you're soft on pirates, most marines won't respect you." I told her. "You don't need to worry about me, I got Phoenix here to guard me."
"Right." She drawled.
"Stop right there and state your reason for being here!" A man yelled from on top of a wall that stretched around the base. Other marines popped their heads up aiming their rifles at our heads.
"I'm Seaman Recruit Zabela, I've returned with a pirate we need to take into custody, I want to speak to CC!" She shouted.
"Zabela?! You realize you're classified as a deserter right? You can't just come back to the base with some no name pirate and expect to be allowed back in!" The man yelled. "And it's Marine Captain, not CC!"
"This isn't some no name pirate, it's Ringmaster Darius, the Vice Captain of the Buggy Pirates!" She informed them.
Silence gripped the clearing for a couple seconds before the men burst into laughter. "You expect us to believe you caught the Vice Captain of an infamous pirate crew? You couldn't catch a fish if it was already on the end of your hook."
I shrugged, deciding to help out a bit. Summoning a blade of bone and sending it flying at one of the men's necks, fire shooting from Zabela's hand just in time to stop it. "Damn it, I was planning on killing him." I complained. "Not a very good marine, the world would be a better place with him gone."
"It's really him." The man said. "How did you manage to catch him, did you sleep with him to lower his guard? Is that why he didn't kill you on his way over here?"
"Can't really kill her when I'm in handcuffs, if I use lighting I'd just shock myself and my bone keeps being turned to ash. Not much I can do in this situation." I told them. "Can we hurry this up? Sitting in a cell would be a lot more enjoyable than listening to you guys hating."
"Open the gates!" He yelled. The call went down the line until two men met us outside to guide us in.
Once inside a young woman immediately ran towards us to see Zabela. "Z did you really catch a pirate? Is this him?" The girl in question had no weapons, but her body was well trained. "I thought you were insane but you really pulled it off."
"I guess I did, I was pretty surprised to find him at the Drunken Sea." She looked over to me. "This is my friend Ari, though she doesn't like pirates she at least still sees them as people."
I dipped my head to the woman taking the time to read her stats.

I smiled. "A pleasure to meet you, I'll try not to kill you when I'm breaking out of this place."
She glared at me. "Like you could. Z this guy didn't try anything did he?"
Zabela giggled. "No but he thought I was a slut trying to take his money when I met him."
Her glare intensified. "He what?!"
Before I could even get the chance to defend myself a voice spoke up as everyone fell silent. "Z you're back, and I hear you brought a pirate with you as an apology for deserting your position."
"Guarding the break room is hardly a position, who am I guarding it against? There's only marines here. I didn't bring him back as an apology, it was to show you that I'm capable of more, I want a promotion. You know I deserve it CC." Zabela told them.
Much to my surprise the marine captain was a man. He wore all black with hints of green, a simple coat and long messy hair. The most notable part of his appearance was the long tongue that fell out of his mouth when he talked.
"What you deserve is to sweep the halls for a year, however because the system promotes people based on accomplishments the higher ups will likely promote you after I send a report. Until then, you'll be demoted back to a chore girl, any complaints?"
"Are you sure they'll promote me?"
"No but you better hope they do or you'll be sweeping for years before you can even think of a promotion." The marine captain looked over at me. "Pirate, you can come with me, after some brief questioning you'll be put into a cell where you can wait until we can send you to impel down. You will be fed, I don't treat my prisoners poorly."
I nodded, following after the man.

"So there are a few questions we ask pirates, most don't answer but if you choose to, it will definitely help your situation. I mean you'll serve a life sentence either way, no leaving Impel Down but I can put in a good word to get you treated a little better than the others." He grabbed a piece of paper, presumably to write down my answers. "You ready?"
I held my hand out to him. "Go ahead."
"Alright first, why did you become a pirate? Give me a full answer."
"Convenience." I answered again. "But if you want to know the full reason, my captain saved me. My mind was corrupted, he snapped me out of it and I know he's destined for great things. I figure, why not help him out?"
"Every good pirate thinks their Captain is destined for great things. But outside of that, corrupted? Could you explain further?"
I smiled. "Of course." I summoned the muramasa from my inventory, wrapping the hilt in bone and allowing it to float over to him. "Is it really such a good idea to not have me in sea stone cuffs?"
He grabbed hold of the sword. "It'll be fine, I should be enough to handle you as long as you're stuck in your current restraints. Let's hope Zabela doesn't fall asleep." He laughed. "This blade, what does it have to do with your corruption?"
I allowed the bone to fall away allowing him to feel the influence of the sword, before snatching it away and returning it to my inventory. "It's cursed, I can use it now with the use of bones that I control telepathically."
Caleb wrote it down, sweat falling from his face at the intense bloodlust he felt. "Let's move on, next question, how do you feel about marines?"
"I don't dislike them, the good ones are fine with me. Those that abuse their power are the ones I dislike, you have quite a few of them here. Speaking of bad marines, I have a question for you. You knew Buggy was in Orange Town, why didn't you do anything?" I asked him.
"Truth be told, I tried but the higher ups wouldn't allow it. They said he's less trouble if he's in the east blue, chasing him away from Orange town might have brought him to the grandline, for some reason they didn't want that." He explained.
"Might be his relationship to Roger and the current emperor Shanks, having been on the same crew as them, plenty of pirates would flock to him. I don't plan on letting that happen though, when we enter the grandline, and it will happen, people will flock to Buggy because of his skills, his fame, not the fame of a dead pirate." My eyes hardened. "Either way, you're willing to let innocents suffer because of orders from the top? That's the problem with you marines, you blindly follow orders, as a pirate I have the freedom to disobey any order I want."
"That freedom is what led you here. Can you really say being locked in a prison for the rest of your life is freedom? My father was a pirate, currently rotting in impel down, I refuse to follow the same path as a man who abandoned his family." Caleb set the paper down. "I'll admit, some marines are corrupt but the majority of us are good people that want to help the world."
"That majority is being kept as Seaman recruits because their ambitions are lacking, or because you want to condition them to follow orders that go against what they want. You're killing that ambition, leaving the good marines to forever be weak, thinking they're making a difference when hundreds of them die to one pirate." I let bone flow around the cuffs, breaking them. Caleb's form shifted as his tongue flung forward, wrapping around my neck while I put blades to his neck. "I can l break out whenever I want, I'm here because I want to see a good marine get what she deserves. Train the marines that deserve it, those that just want power to flaunt it, condition them instead. Kill their ambition and keep them from becoming a problem to the world, marines like Morgan in Shells Town don't deserve that power."
Caleb sighed, in an instant daggers appeared in his hands as he cut through the blades at his neck and pulled me towards him, seastone cuffs wrapping around my wrist. "You make a lot of sense but don't think for a moment you can escape, if you were so worried about there being no good marines, you should've become one."
I suppressed my power and smiled. "We'll see."
...
"So what's your story?" A man asked when I entered the cell.
"I wanted to help a cute marine girl get a promotion." I told him truthfully.
The man laughed. "Better story than the one we got, we came to raid this island, didn't realize this was a marine base. This guy over here is False, he'd introduce himself but ever since they put those cuffs on him he's been feeling sick."
"Seastone." I said holding up my arms. "They block the abilities of fruit users and weaken them, fortunately for us I'm not a fruit user. What's his ability?"
"He can tell the truth from lies, that's why we call him False. My name is Micah, no special abilities, just a street brawler. How about you, what can you do? What's your name?" He asked.
"Considering his abilities, it may be better to wait until he's out of those cuffs before I tell you, that way you know I'm not lying." I created a skull from bone. "However if we're gonna bust out of here tomorrow, you guys need to know now. I'm Darius of the Buggy Pirates, I use bone and lightning."
"Thought you said you aren't a fruit user."
"I'm not, these were abilities I was gifted. Seastone cuffs don't weaken me." I explained.
"Well how do you plan on breaking out, this seastone you're talking about is far stronger than any material I've ever seen."
"All cuffs have keys, if I can mold bone to fit it I should be able to open it, only problem is the bone might break so I'll have to increase its strength. One level should be enough." I told him.
"Level?" He seemed confused.
"I just need to do 663 pushups by tomorrow, a bit more than usual but if I push myself I should make it. We leave at dawn. You with me or would you like to spend your life in Impel Down?"
He grinned. "Sure we'll join you, I've been wanting to knock some marine heads." He paused. "By the way, what's with the chicken?"
"Oh him, his name is Phoenix, he can handle the extras for us. I'll handle the captain, you two will have to handle the two girls, they're the only other strong people here." Phoenix blinked open his eyes for the first time, confusion evident on his face as he looked around. "It's alright, we're breaking out tomorrow, how would you like to handle some marines?"
They were imprisoned, they trapped the greatest chicken in a cage. He didn't know who his enemies were but if he got out, they'd experience hell.
"A chicken is going to handle an army of soldiers with guns?" Micah seemed skeptical. "Also that Captain guy is strong, he took us both out the moment we stepped through the gates."
"Don't let him fool you, Phoenix got his name because he ate a fruit that gives him immortality. He can't be killed, he'll be able to handle them. Also that Captain guy is a bit weaker than I am, he has the advantage in skill and a zoan fruit so we should be around the same level if he tries. I'll make sure to win."
"Well if we're going to break out, we have no choice but to trust you." He laid down. "Ima get some sleep, wake me up when it's time to go."
I nodded, immediately starting my pushups.

As the sun rose, I assumed… There were no windows in the prison. The reason I assumed the sun rose was because of the message on my screen.
[A quest has been generated!
Escape the marine base
Reward: x2 elemental skills, Loyalty of the
Shaggy Pirates]
I put the five stat points into defense, looking around on the cuffs and letting my bone flow into the keyhole. With a mental turn the cuffs fell to the floor. "Alright time to go." I stood up walking over to False and removing his cuffs before shaking him awake. As soon as his eyes opened, I spoke. "You can trust me. I haven't lied to you or your captain."
He maintained eye contact for a moment before smiling. "Thank you for this, we'll be forever in your debt if we escape this."
"No problem." I told him before moving on to Micah and taking his cuffs off and waking him.
"You guys ready to go?" I asked.
Phoenix puffed his chest from his spot on my shoulder, ready for the battle.
"Yeah, let's bust some heads. When we escape as Captain of the Shaggy Pirates, I vow to follow you as long as it suits my interest."
I grinned. "Fine by me." I opened the cell door and at the same time the door to the room opened up.
"Hey I heard you pushed for my promotion." A voice said as the young woman closed the door behind her before turning and seeing us.
"Pretty cute right?" I said to Micah. "She's all yours, be careful of the flames." I turned bacK to Zabela. "Hope you don't mind but I did say I'd escape. Take care of my dear friend Micah for me."
I rushed forward seeing her hands light up, just before she could fire, Micah grabbed her arm, and swept her legs. "Your fight is with me."
I smiled running past them and through the door. "Now I know I said escape but we're bringing this base to the ground." I told False turning a corner seeing three marines leisurely talking about which girls looked the best on the base. I created three bone blades, throwing them forward and jumping over the dead marine's body.
"Is it really best to kill them?" False asked.
"Most of them will make bad marines, just leave the girls and the captain alive, the rest are just extras that don't need to live. If they have the will they'll survive, if not they're useless." We burst through a door at the end of the hallway being greeted by the sun as the eyes of the marines turned towards us.
Alarms immediately sounded throughout the base as the army of soldiers circled us. From the crowd out stepped Ari. "Hey get back, this isn't a place for recruits!" One of the other soldiers yelled.
"Oh shut up, we both know you can't handle them. I'm sure my father will forgive me if I overstep to help subdue some escaping pirates."
"Let her fight!" Caleb croaked, in his full hybrid mode, a skinny green bipedal frog with a spotted tail, narrowed eyes, and twin daggers. His tongue finally had room and remained in his mouth when he spoke. "I trained her as well as I could, if she's anything like her mother was, she'll do great."
Ari smiled at her father's approval, dashing forward as False moved to intercept. I grabbed the chicken from my shoulder, looking him in the eyes before launching him into the crowd, yells filling the air as he went to work. "I told you I'd break out when I wanted to, luckily for me I wasn't the only one in that prison or it would've taken me longer to escape."
"Did someone betray me?" Caleb asked.
"It sounds as if you have someone in mind but no, she didn't betray you, as of now she's fighting Micah. I broke out because my abilities don't come from a devil fruit and it's pretty easy to pick a lock when you can mold bone into anything you want."
"If you had your powers the whole time why didn't you just stab me in the back when i escorted you to the cell?"
I shrugged. "Guess I just like to do things differently for dramatic effect, this is so much better, waking up an entire marine base at the brink of dawn rather than attack at night while most are still awake. I mean escaping alone quietly may have been possible but who wants to do that? If I bring a marine base to the ground that would easily increase my bounty by five million."
"That's only if you get past me." He said walking slowly towards me. "Let's take this somewhere else." A tongue wrapped around my waist throwing me across the field. I landed on my feet in a secluded clearing, settling into my stance.
"Brought us all the way out here, were you scared I'd kill too many marines in our fight?"
He shook his head, his cheeks puffing up. "I was afraid I'd kill them, Tainted ground!" From his mouth came a heavy gas, falling to the floor and spreading across the area. "Don't even try running, you've already been hit."
[You have been affected by poison! Hp falls by ten points every minute!]
"Poison?" I sighed. "Well if your plan was to turn this into a battle of attrition, I'm sorry but I'm ending this quickly."
…
"Forge Forge Cannon!" Zabela announced as a cannonball soared past the pirates head.
"Is that all you got?" Micah asked.
"Forge Forge Bullets!" Zabela followed.
Micah smiled dodging the bullets he could wincing in pain as a few pierced his body. He closed the distance immediately dodging a sword and striking the marine across the face, sending her flying into a wall.
Zabela stood up, her hands lighting up, an iron whip being pulled out with a blade on one end. "I was worried about bringing the building down but now it seems I have no choice." The whip remained on fire as she swung it, cutting through the walls as Micah dodged.
False sidestepped another kick, his knee flying forward slamming into Ari's stomach, he flipped her over stepping away as she landed on her back. "Try again." He told her, returning to his stance.
Ari jumped back to her feet rushing the man with a high kick, False guided the kick away with the palm of his hand before striking out with the other, stopping short of the marines neck. "Too reckless, no strategy, just speed and power, try again." He returned to his position, breathing out and calming himself once more.
"Blade hunt!" Caleb shouted as his tongue wrapped around my body, pulling me towards him, his blades flying forward in a flurry of strikes.
I grabbed hold of his tongue as my hp fell. "Electrocute!" When nothing happened I summoned the muramasa from my inventory, bone wrapping around the hilt as I grabbed it and charged it with electricity. "Jolt slash!" In an instant Caleb's tongue snapped back into his mouth as I let the sword go and covered my hands in bone.
[Jolt slash has reached level 3!]
Caleb seemed confused watching the cuts he made into my body disappear. "You're tougher than I thought, Vanish." The voice was a mere whisper on the wind as the man disappeared from sight.
Micah scanned the floor for something he could use to defend himself, the whip cutting into his side before the flame instantly cauterized it. Noticing the cuffs on the floor he thought back to what the guy said before about it nullifying fruit abilities. He jumped over another snap of the whip, the roof caving in on them before flames devoured it with another crack. Using that chance, Micah leapt forward grabbing hold of the two pairs of sea stone cuffs and snapped one on each arm holding the other end of it like brass knuckles.
False weaved around a volley of kicks, seeing which attacks were feints and which were genuine with his fruit. As the last kick came he stopped, his eyes seeing it as a lie as he saw Ari's arms rise. He dodged to the side as Ari tried to grab him, he gave her a slight nudge sending her crashing into another marine.
"Damn it Ari, move!" The marine shouted before being smothered by the feathers of Phoenix. The chicken silenced him with a peck to the neck, piercing the skin and leaving him to bleed out.
"Camouflage." I realized, as I glanced around trying to find the man, part of me wanted to enter camouflage as well but then we'd just be running around randomly and I had to finish this before the poison got me.
"Assassinate." A voice whispered from behind. I immediately turned and threw up my arm to block the blade, allowing my electroreception to stretch out encompassing the clearing as he jumped back.
I rushed towards his position charging my fist with lightning and narrowly missing his head as his camouflage fell. "Can't hide from me." I told him.
"Who's hiding?" He croaked.
Micah blocked the whip grabbing hold of it, the flames burning his hand as he pulled her in. "Marines are always so confident until they end up on the ground." He punched her across the face, the whip disappearing as she rolled across the floor.
Her flames reignited as she stood up. "Forge Forge Bullets!" She called once more.
Micah charged through the bullets ducking as she swung her blade and threw dirt into her eyes. He dodged around another wild swing before slamming her to the ground, the sea stone directly touching her neck, her powers drained. "Guy was right, you'd make a great marine with a bit more training. I expect to see you again."
"You won't be free for long." Zabela promised.
"What makes you so sure?" The pirate hit her once more, knocking her unconscious. He grinned looking down at his arms. "I have to make a weapon out of this sea stone stuff."
False smiled as a kick landed, sending him across the field. "Better. You're learning." He praised the marine.
"Shut up!" Ari shouted, dashing at him.
False frowned. "One complement and now you're fighting sloppily again." He went to strike her in the neck until a kick whirled around striking his back and knocking him to the floor.
"You can't keep up with my speed." She boasted slamming her foot into the floor as False rolled away and jumped to his feet. Ari attacked again, growing more and more relentless, more attacks going through as her anger climbed.
False remained calm, doing his best to stay ahead of her but the attacks became too much and he was once more on the floor, unable to dodge until a fist came flying into the fight, knocking the girl into the pile of Phoenix's defeated marines.
"Teaching the enemy again?" Micah asked, offering False his hand.
False grabbed hold, pulling himself up. "Sorry Captain, I didn't want her potential to go to waste."
Micah laughed. "You're good, now let's finish this up."
False nodded as Ari stood up, her anger growing further surrounded by the blood of her men.
The fight turned into a dance as Caleb and I ramped up, attacks flying around the clearing, neither one of us allowing the other to gain any ground. I dodged another stroke of his blade slamming an imploding spark fist into his chest as he flew through the air.
Caleb hit the ground, his powerful legs bending as he leapt forward at high speeds, I hurriedly stomped as a wall of bone rose to stop him, the marine easily broke through it, nearly reaching my neck as I grabbed hold of the bone pulling it all towards me. "Bone Art: Trapped Butterfly!" The wave of bone molded around the marine, trapping him in a hollow cocoon. Before he could break out I charged my blade with lightning and sent a jolt slash into the cocoon, the bone exploding and Caleb falling to the floor shifting back to his human form.
[Marine Captain Caleb has been defeated! 233 exp gained! Points until next level: 508]
"Oh thank god!" I nearly shouted, only having 47 health points left.
I returned the muramasa to my inventory, jumping on top of one of the buildings, seeing the rest of the base in flames. Not far off Phoenix and the two Pirates had finished off the last of the marines. I started running towards them.
"Alright guys let's go before reinforcements get here!" I shouted once I was within earshot.
"You really beat him?" Micah said, breaking into a run as I passed him.
"Yeah but I've been poisoned, I'm gonna have to sleep until we get to my crew. I can't cure the poison myself." I informed them.
"Which way we headed?" False asked.
"Northwest, there should be an island filled with strange animals. Help me get there?" I asked.
Micah slapped me on the back as he ran ahead. "You can count on us."
Phoenix flew on top of my shoulder as we made it to the rowboat. "Hope she gets that promotion."

A couple hours passed before Caleb woke up to his daughter and Z, a small group of marines behind them. "We lost, Micah took me out with the seastone cuffs." Z told him.
"I was beaten by False, he could see all my feints with his devil fruit, just when I was getting the upper hand, Micah joined him." Ari explained.
"That man Darius, he's definitely worthy of his bounty, I guess the talk about him surviving Xavier was true after all." Caleb looked at the small group of marines. "What happened to everyone else?"
The marine that stood on top of the wall looked away. "The whole group was wiped out by Phoenix, the Buggy Pirate's chicken. No matter how many times we hit, he kept getting back up."
Caleb sighed. "Hundreds die to one pirate,I guess you weren't exaggerating if a pet can do this much." He jumped to his feet, holstering his daggers. "We begin training immediately, what happened here today can never happen again!" He announced.
"Yes sir!"
