Hey guys! Before we begin this chapter I wanted to address some of the reviews I've gotten so far.

Firstly, thank you to Fire Girl125 (author of Glee: The New York Story) for your consistent positive feedback! Your story actually inspired me to write this one, so thank you so much! Glad you've enjoyed the story so far.

Secondly, a guest review asked how many episodes I was planning for this season. I have multiple episode ideas that I'd like to see fleshed out; including this chapter, and the previous two, I am aiming for 13-20 episodes for this season. These will be a mixture of actual season 5 ideas, as well as original content, and both! I'll share some of these soon.

Hope you guys enjoy; share this story with your friends. Let's get into the episode!

Episode 5x03: Moving Forward

Absent: Jane Lynch as Sue Sylvester, Chris Colfer as Kurt Hummel

"So, Finn, a couple of the are going to play some flag football later today. You down or what?"

Finn walked through the University of Lima's campus with his best friend and roommate, Noah "Puck" Puckerman. Puck wasn't actually enrolled in the university – as he put it, he was just "auditing some classes" – but he was staying with Finn to make sure he stayed on top of his studies and out of trouble. This was out of the ordinary for Puck, who usually relied on Finn to keep him on top of school and out of trouble, but Puck knew he had to step up for his friend in a time of need. Finn was lost, after leaving his role as glee club coach due to his then issues with Mr. Schue, and was slacking off, going to parties and skipping class. However, with Puck on his back and his role as coach reinstated, Finn was back on track to get his teaching degree, with glee club serving as an internship for him.

"No thanks. I've got a lot of glee club stuff to do this afternoon."

Puck sighed. "You're no fun anymore, dude."

Finn laughed and shoved his friend playfully. "Weren't you the one who wanted me to stay focused in the first place?"

"My flag football offer was a test! And you passed. Congratulations!"

Finn rolled his eyes as the two continued to walk back towards their dorm. He had a pretty strict schedule; classes and homework in the mornings, glee club in the afternoons, going to the gym in the evening, more homework, and occasionally goofing off with Puck anytime in between. It was incredibly uncommon for him to break his habits, no matter what.

"Heard you and Berry pillow talking on the phone last night." Puck teased as they walked. "How's that going?"

Finn wouldn't consider asking how her Funny Girl rehearsals were going to be 'pillow talk," but he digressed. Nothing was happening between them; no Finchel reunion, for now, as they were both busy, plus the distance had already proved to be too much once, and he wasn't ready to give it another shot. And, again, he hadn't been breaking his habits recently.

Until, suddenly, Finn locked eyes with someone, and his stomach began to feel... funny. She was around their age, with light brown hair and blue eyes, and a pink dress on. She had a bright smile, one that instantly got Finn's attention. The two stared at each other from across the quad, and Finn couldn't help but wonder; Who is that? He hadn't felt this way in forever, not since he and Rachel had broken up, and he wasn't sure how to feel or what to even do.

"Finn!"

Puck's voice snapped Finn back to reality. He blinked and realized the two of them were standing in front of their dorm, and as he looked around for this mystery woman, she was gone. Gone, and likely to never be seen again. That really freaked Finn out. He had been out of the game for so long he probably didn't even know how to talk to a girl, and he honestly forgot what the feeling of attraction felt like. Sure, plenty of girls had approached him at parties and such, but he never felt any kind of way towards them. He only felt that away about Rachel and Quinn... and now, this mysterious third girl.

"Dude, are you there?" Puck asked in an annoyed tone, waving his hand in front of Finn's face.

Finn was deep in thought, but his friend's persistence made him lose everything in his head. "What?"

{The scene cuts to all of the glee club members in the choir room with Mr. Schue and Finn, watching as the Cheerios file into the room, followed by Bree as she begins to sing}

Oh, when you walk by every night

Talking sweet and looking fine

I get kind of hectic inside

{Bree and the Cheerios begin to do a choreographed dance to the music}

Mmm, baby, I'm so into you

Darling, if you only knew

All the things that flow through my mind

{Bree stares into the crowd of glee club members, specifically Jake}

But it's just a sweet, sweet fantasy, baby

When I close my eyes, you come and take me

{Bree walks towards the chairs, pushing past Sugar and Sam to get to Jake and Marley}

On and on and on, it's so deep in my daydreams

But it's just a sweet, sweet fantasy, baby

{Bree "slut drops" in front of Jake before turning around and walking slowly away as he, and the other glee boys, stare}

Images of rapture

Creep into me slowly

As you're going to my head

{Bree does a backflip as the Cheerios catch her and lift her up}

And my heart beats faster

When you take me over

Time and time and time again

{The Cheerios throw her and then catch her}

But it's just a sweet, sweet fantasy, baby

When I close my eyes, you come and take me

{The Cheerios let Bree down}

On and on and on, it's so deep in my daydreams

But it's just a sweet, sweet fantasy, baby

{The Cheerios leave one by one until only Bree remains}

Sweet, sweet fantasy, baby

Sweet, sweet fantasy, baby

The glee club broke into awkward cheers; most were excited for the performance, as like her or not, Bree's voice was amazing. Kitty refrained from clapping due to her dislike for Bree after the whole 'exposing Wildebrams' thing and made sure Artie did not clap as well. Marley did not clap because of Bree's oh-so obvious crush on Jake. Unique did not clap because of her friendship with Marley, and also...

"Girl, Mariah would be disgusted..." She muttered to herself, playing with the rings on her fingers.

"I should've been the one to perform that song. It has Sugar Motta written all over it!" Sugar exclaimed jealously. This led to some confused looks, with Ryder even looking at Joe with a WTF? expression.

Bree took a bow, giving a quick wink to Jake and a smirk to Marley, who gave the dirtiest look possible. Mr. Schue and Finn looked at each other and nodded, standing up and making their way to the front of the choir room.

"Bree, that was an amazing audition!" Mr. Schue applauded as he turned to the club. "With Nationals coming up, we're going to start up Booty Camp once again to improve our dance moves. Hopefully Bree can give us a thing or two, because wow! Amazing choreography, plus an amazing rendition of one of Mariah's biggest hits!"

Unique snorted. "Please. Mercedes Jones would've ate her up in a Mariah-off."

Bree gave yet another fake smile and asked, "Who?"

Artie gasped. "She's glee club royalty..."

Finn, noticing the tension in the room, spoke up a bit. "Well guys, as you know, we're one person away from having a full, twelve-person team for Nationals... and I think we just found our final member! Let's give it up for Bree! Welcome to the New Directions!"

The glee club clapped for Bree, welcoming her into the club with open arms. Well, mostly everyone, minus Kitty, Artie, Unique, and Marley. Bree thanked everyone for their support, even giving Marley a side hug, although the two of them looked like they wanted to kill each other. Unique glared hard at the newest member of the team; she knew this girl was trouble, and there was something going on here... something much more than Bree simply wanting to join the club, and Unique knew she wasn't the only one who noticed.

Someone else who didn't join in on the applause was Sam. Ever since Regionals, Sam had been uncharacteristically quiet. Sure, he joined in on the glee club's song assignments now and then, but he wasn't interjecting nearly as much as he used to. He sat, listened to what Finn and Mr. Schue had to say, and left. The most excited he had been in weeks was seeing Ryder rejoin the club. While Unique was busy analyzing Bree's motives, Blaine and Tina were busy analyzing Sam's body language and behavior. He was one of the most happy-go-lucky people at McKinley; what could possibly be bugging him?

Santana sat behind the counter of the Spotlight Diner, filling the saltshakers up with salt as she listened to Rachel ramble on about how great Funny Girl was, how she was wrong to think of telling Rupert no, how Santana and Kurt were right, and how Barbra was going to praise her when the musical opened. Santana wasn't really listening, though. She couldn't help but keep looking up at this girl across the restaurant. She was a coworker, although Santana had never met her. She had dirty blonde hair, brown eyes, and a smile so contagious that even Santana smiled as a result. Suddenly, the girl looked up, and the two locked eyes. Nervously, Santana looked back down to her bucket of salt.

"Santana?"

Santana looked up again, this time to look at Rachel. "What?"

"I asked if you had taken a break yet."

Santana gave a sheepish grin and shook her head. "Not yet, no."

Rachel gave her a weird look. "You got here a whole four hours before I did, and I've been here for two. You've worked six hours without a break?"

Santana shrugged, her eyes finding themselves looking in the mystery coworker's direction yet again. She replied quickly, "Yup."

Meanwhile, back at McKinley, Finn exited the choir room with Mr. Schue at his side. The two walked and talked on their way to the teacher's lounge for lunch, as they sat down and shared coffee as they watched a Cleveland Indians spring training game on Finn's phone. "Can't believe we picked up Nick Swisher. I thought for sure the Yankees would resign him."

Finn's mind eventually drifted away from baseball when he saw her, the girl he saw while walking with Puck on campus earlier. She had just walked into the teacher's lounge and was getting her lunch out of the fridge. This couldn't be a coincidence!

{Finn watches as the mystery girl makes small talk with some of the other teachers}

[Finn and Santana]

This rainy day is temporary

The contrast is why we got 'em

The sunshine due is just a cloud away

Way way way way way way

Way way way way way way

{Mr. Schue is shown talking to Finn, who isn't responding as he daydreams}

[Finn]

So what, you blown a fuse

Well, that happens to us all

When I come with great news

The day could change, change, change

Change

{The scene cuts to Santana as she watches her newfound crush take orders}

[Santana]

We've all, of course, been there before

Been there, crying, fighting the dark

Let good energy be your strong

Won't get away

Way, way, way

{Finn and Santana imagine themselves singing on stage at McKinley's auditorium to their crushes}

[Finn and Santana]

This rainy day is temporary

The contrast is why we got 'em

The sunshine due is just a cloud away

Way way way way way way

Way way way way way way

[Santana]

Everything is cyclical

What goes around must come back around, baby

[Finn]

Everything boomerangs

What goes up, must come down

[Santana]

Love is warm when it's cold

Humanity will keep your feet on the ground

[Finn]

So do your thing through the rain

If you understand, won't you sing with me now?

[Finn and Santana]

This rainy day is temporary

The contrast is why we got 'em

The sunshine due is just a cloud away

Way way way way way way

Way way way way way way

"Finn!"

Finn snapped back out of it, where he found Mr. Schue staring at him like he had three heads... but the new crush stood there, as well.

"I-I'm sorry, I must've zoned out!" Finn could feel his face getting red, a feeling which worsened as the girl began to giggle. "What did you say?"

The girl spoke. "I asked who your favorite player on the Indians was? I know he's on the Yankees now, but I was always a big CC Sabathia fan. My dad loves him."

Finn blinked. This girl, who he had seen for the first time in his life on his college campus earlier, was now talking to him about baseball in the teacher's lounge of the high school in which he worked. This sounded like a dream.

"Uh, I really like Carlos Santana." Finn managed to respond, somehow.

"Good pick!" She nodded, extending her hand to shake Finn's. "I'm Penny, by the way. Penny Owen."

Finn shook it. Her hands were soft. "Finn Hudson."

Meanwhile, back at the Spotlight, Rachel was waving her hand in Santana's face. Santana blinked, realizing she had spilt salt all over her shoes – and by that token, Rachel's. Santana's crush noticed from across the restaurant, giggling as she took orders from customers. Santana stared at her feet, before feeling her face become as red as her uniform.

"Is everything okay, Santana?" Rachel asked in a concerned tone. "You seem off. You seem... nervous?"

"I'm perfectly fine, Berry. Perfectly fine."

Jake stood at his locker, putting his books away, as his head swirled with emotions. It was so obvious that Bree, the new girl in glee club, had a thing for him. As a Puckerman, he expected nothing less, but things were different now. For one, he could tell most of his friends in glee club hated her, but he also wasn't the womanizer his brother was, at least not anymore. He had a girlfriend and was committed to that relationship. He had no intention of messing his relationship with Marley up.

However.

As a junior in high school, his hormones were going crazy. Objectively speaking, Bree was an attractive girl, and she was practically throwing herself at him. If Jake really wanted, he could 'hit it and quit it,' so to speak, and thus solve the problems of his sexual urges for the short term. Marley wasn't comfortable moving forward intimately, and Jake respected that, but he hadn't done more than make out with a girl since he and Marley started dating. It seemed all his problems could go away if he let his guard down a little for Bree... but then more problems would occur if Marley discovered he cheated.

Jake groaned as he closed his locker, conflicted on what to do regarding this whole situation. Should he really be torn here? No, but he was only 17 years old, and they tend to not think as rationally as they should. He quickly changed his attitude as he saw Marley run up to him out of the corner of his eye.

"Okay!" She approached excitedly. "We have to get to Breadstix extra early on Friday, because they are having a Julie Andrews tribute at the Lima Limelight. Mary Poppins, Sound of Music, Princess Diaries, back-to-back. It's gonna be amazing!"

"Yeah, that sounds really awesome." Jake replied with an eyeroll and a small chuckle.

Marley's grin slowly faded. "Do you not think it sounds amazing?"

Jake was letting his frustrations slowly seep out. "It's just, like, the same thing! Breadstix, movie. Breadstix, movie. Breadstix and three movies... weekend after weekend..." He sighed, realizing how much of a jerk he sounded. "I love you, but I feel like we're doing the same thing." He took her hands and danced with her slowly in the hallway, as she slowly began laughing. "Let's just shake it up a little bit!"

"Okay, okay, forget Mary Poppins." Marley said, pushing her hair behind her ear. "We can do something else."

"Okay."

"Uh... they're having Orchid Mania at the gardens!" Jake's face told Marley everything he needed to know. "At the mall, there's a mobile cat adoption we could go to?"

Jake chuckled. "You are so innocent, Marley Rose."

"Why, because I like cats, flowers, and Julie Andrews?" Marley replied, quite innocently.

Jake laughed again, giving her a quick peck on the lips. "I've got to go meet with Mr. Schue to talk about leading the team in Booty Camp choreography after school. Keep brainstorming! I love you!"

"I love you too!" Marley called as Jake rushed down the hallway.

Marley felt weird. Jake was usually fine with their weekend routine, and while she understood not wanting to do the same thing over and over, his motives seemed different. Jake had honestly been acting a bit different since Regionals, and especially since that Bree girl expressed some interest in him. She began to think. He wouldn't cheat on me, would he...?

Of course not. Jake made it very clear that he was a different person than his father, and his brother, and he didn't want to be seen as a womanizer or a player anymore. But Marley's instincts were rarely wrong, and she knew something was up... she just wasn't sure what.

Meanwhile, on the other side of school, Blaine and Tina were walking towards the courtyard. The two were deep in conversation, attempting to narrow down what Sam's problem was. They hated seeing their friend so upset, and they were going to do what they could to figure things out.

"I'm telling you, Tina, something is up. He hasn't even texted me about the Captain America 2 rumors. It's his dream to play Steve Rogers one day, and by now he would've texted me saying it should be him instead of Chris Evans, and other than glee club, it's just been radio silence."

Tina nodded in agreement as they stepped out of the school and made their way down the courtyard's stairs, holding onto Blaine's arm. "I know. I saw him at lunch, and he barely touched his dinosaur chicken nuggets. I'm really worried about him, Blainey Days."

Blaine motioned forward; speak of the devil, there was Sam. He was sitting by himself at a table on the far end of the courtyard, playing with his shoelaces. As the two of them approached, Sam barely looked up. He just seemed so upset. Tina hadn't seen him this reserved since he first joined the glee club their sophomore year.

"Hey, Sam! Mind if we sit with you?" Blaine inquired gently, giving his friend a pat on the back. After a quick shrug from Trouty Mouth, the two sat. "That Bree girl was really something today, huh?"

Sam gave a brief nod. "She seems like she's really into Jake." He muttered to himself.

Tina shrugged. "Can you blame her? Jake is fine. Easily the more attractive Puckerman."

Sam slouched over, putting his hand to his face and his elbow to the table. "Bree and Marley. Must be nice to have two girls into you."

Blaine and Tina shared confused glances before looking back to Sam as Tina spoke up. "Sam, I still think you're the hottest guy in glee club!"

No response.

"I'm sorry, are you really this upset because Jake has two girls fawning over him?" Blaine asked in a somewhat annoyed tone.

Sam knew the two of them meant well; it had nothing to do with who was hotter, or who had more girls. He should've communicated how he felt as to avoid their worrying, and to be frank, Blaine's impatience and insensitiveness. And because of that, Sam snapped. "It has nothing to do with him specifically, okay? Jake has Marley, you have Kurt, Artie has Kitty... I literally just got broken up with, dude. With our Regionals victory and the excitement of Ryder coming back, I haven't really had the time to process it, but Brittany left. She left me, she left the team, she left the school... and now I just feel like I'm all alone."

Instantly, Blaine Anderson felt like the biggest asshole on the entire planet. He didn't even consider that, and apparently neither did Sam, but it was true; Brittany returned from her MIT college visit a completely different person. She came back to the choir room, demanding all the solos in glee club, and then breaking up with Sam. Over text. In front of everyone. Nobody talked about it, since the pressure of Regionals, getting Brittany back and the whole Unique catfishing scandal all built up within the few days leading up to the competition, but Sam was crushed. He loved Brittany and felt like she was one of the few who truly could understand and relate to him. They somewhat made amends when she said her goodbyes to the New Directions, but the fact remained that Sam and Brittany broke up, and finally, it was time for him to fully process that.

Tina smacked Blaine's arm before scooting over to Sam and giving him a hug. "Sam, we are so sorry. Life has been so busy lately and we should've been there for you. We know how much you cared about her." She rested her head on his shoulder as Sam sat there in silence, fighting back tears as he reminisced on memories between he and Britt.

Blaine also scooted over to join in on the hug. "Sam, I'm sorry for being insensitive. I-I had no idea this was still on your mind."

With a sniffle, Sam hugged his two friends back before breaking away quickly, wiping his tears away quickly. "I put the needs of the team before my own emotions for the last week or so, and I never really got to address how I felt... I feel like my heart just took a pause, and now the rest of me is taking a pause, too. I haven't done impressions in weeks, I haven't wanted to randomly burst out into song. I've barely wanted to come to glee club because it reminded me of her, but I powered through it and put on a fake, White Chocolate smile for the greater good of the team. Maybe I should have Mr. Schue and Finn assign a Frank Ocean week so I can sing the pain away."

Blaine couldn't help but chuckle. No matter how upset his friend was, he knew the goofiness would always remain. "From here on out, Tina and I will be at your side."

Tina nodded. "Well, if I'm not busy running the Too Young to Be Bitter Club, I'll be there for you. I'll just have Dottie work it into my schedule." She handed Sam a tissue, which he took as he continued to wipe his tears, and promptly blow his nose. Stifling a laugh, Tina continued. "Why don't we do something later? Like bowling, or mini-golf, or something?"

Blaine nodded in agreement. "Yeah, just the three of us? That sounds like fun."

Sam hesitated but nodded. He had been going through it alone, which is never the way to approach dealing with your feelings. He had great friends at his side, and he knew that no matter what, he could rely on them. He missed Brittany, more than he would like to admit, but he had to move on somehow, and the healthy way to do that was to try and continue on in life with some kind of normalcy. In his best impression of Chevy Chase from Caddyshack, he said, "Be the ball." Sounds like the three of them were mini-golfing!

Later that day at the Spotlight Diner, Santana was filling up ketchup bottles as her shift ended, with the mystery girl from earlier. They hadn't talked much, and Santana didn't even ask her for her name. Santana would occasionally look up and make eye contact with the girl, followed by a small smile, but not much else. She looked down and realized, this entire time, her name was on her nametag. Duh. It said 'Dani,' and from there Santana began to initiate conversation.

"I dig your name," she began in a teasing tone. "So do you think that your parents, like, knew that you would grow up to be a lesbian, giving you a boy name?"

Dani looked at her, offended. "I'm not a lesbian."

"Oh, uh... You just wear so much eyeliner, I'm so sorr-"

"I'm totally kidding. I love lady parts!" Dani said with a laugh. The stress left Santana's body, thinking she had totally blew it, but as she realized Dani had a similar taste for sarcasm, she relaxed. Dani continued, "Dani is short for Danielle, and no, I don't think they knew. My parents are actually kind of douchebags... they caught me making out with a girl in the basement and all hell broke loose." She put down her ketchup bottle. "I grabbed my guitar and never looked back! What about you?"

"My parents were pretty cool about it... my grandmother? Not so much." Santana's usual, sassy attitude vanished in that moment as she thought about her abuela, Alma Lopez. When Santana came out to her, Alma was angry, telling her that "some secrets are best kept as secrets," and kicked her out of the house. They hadn't spoken since, and Alma wasn't there for anymore competitions, Santana's graduation, or anything else in the past year or so. She missed her terribly, but she wasn't going to try and change Alma's mind. If she didn't love Santana for her sexuality, then she didn't love her at all, and that was that.

Then, Santana's mind drifted to another loved one she had disconnected with; Brittany S. Pierce. They had broken up earlier in the year due to the pressure of long distance but remained friends. After Brittany broke up with Sam and received early admission to MIT, Santana thought there was a chance they could try things again, but the fact of the matter was that Brittany was too busy to maintain a friendship, let alone a relationship. They had barely spoken since she got to MIT, and that broke Santana's heart. She loved Brittany, but from where Santana was sitting, it seemed like their relationship was just a distant memory. "I had a girlfriend. She was bi."

"Any chance of you guys getting back together?" Dani asked curiously as she played with her hair.

"I love her, but, um, that's over." Santana hadn't admitted that out loud until this very moment, and if it wasn't for her attraction towards Dani, she wasn't sure she ever would. Despite their breakup she held onto her feelings for Brittany, even willing to go to war with Sam over her, but finally, she was starting to accept the reality of the situation.

"I mean, it's probably for the best." Dani responded flirtatiously. "I think you need a 100% sapphic goddess."

Butterflies. Santana didn't know how to feel – that exchange was confirmation on how Dani felt, which meant the feelings were mutual. However, the only woman Santana had truly been with was Brittany. She "dated" Puck and Sam before she came out, and she even had sex with Finn, but none of them compared to Britt. Here she sat, a gorgeous woman who was clearly interested in her across the table, and she didn't even know how to react.

"I'm gonna go get the s-salt sha-shakers." Santana got up quickly, freaked out as she walked away.

"Well, look at these two cuties."

Bree clutched her red binder close as she approached Jake and Marley in the hallway in between classes. The two were in the middle of discussing their weekend plans when the Cheerio had interrupted. "Jake, I know you're leading us in Booty Camp, but outside of that, the Cheerios are working on something big. We could really use your silky-smooth dance moves that make an awkward attempt at combining hip-hop and ballet." She swayed to the side, not breaking eye contact with Jake. "I need you to help me choreograph a number."

"Thanks, Bree, but my choreography skills are reserved for the team. I don't do one-on-ones." Jake responded as he had his arm around Marley. He wanted to be respectful towards his girlfriend, despite how Bree obviously felt about him.

Marley, however, said something that surprised both Jake and Bree. "No, babe, you should do it! You love it and you're so good at that." Marley was 100% testing Jake. She trusted him, but she knew how he used to be, and with the way he was acting recently, she wanted to see what he would do.

"Really?"

"Mhm!"

Jake looked at Bree, and back to Marley. "Okay, sure. Why not? I'm in."

"Badass. I'll text you the rehearsal dates." Bree said with a smirk before turning around and walking off.

The couple continued walking as they brainstormed what they wanted to do that weekend. Suddenly, a lightbulb went off in Jake's head. He had the perfect idea that would potentially solve all his problems. "Hey, listen, why don't you come over after school today? We'll do something fun." Marley laughed but grew slightly nervous as Jake continued. "My mom's working a double shift, so she won't be home until way, way late."

She knew what he was insinuating, and honestly, she wasn't sure if she was ready for anything like that. However, no matter how strange Jake had been recently, she knew one thing; he would never pressure her. "S-sure."

Flashforward to Jake's room as the two made out. Marley smiled into their kisses. She hadn't dated a ton of guys before him, but one thing she knew for sure was that Jake was the best kisser out of everyone. He was just so... good at it, for lack of a better term. Today's kisses were certainly rougher than usual, but Marley didn't mind. She loved him, and she enjoyed expressing her love, but this was as far as she intended to go.

Jake had other plans as he moved his hands down her body. Marley pulled his hand away as they continued to make out, but she found him moving his hands up to touch her breasts now. She was not comfortable, and she made sure he knew. "Jake, stop." He pulled away, his facial expression a mixture of disappointment and frustration, as he turned to sit on the side of his bed as Marley turned to face the other way.

"Can we have an honest conversation about this? The whole of being boyfriend and girlfriend is that we hang out, and spend all this time together, so we can appreciate and trust each other."

"I totally appreciate and trust you!" Marley exclaimed.

"Then what better place is there to explore certain aspects of ourselves than here?"

Marley began to choke up, tears forming. "Are you telling me that the only reason you hang out with me and all that is just so I let you touch my boobs?"

Jake stood up, turning back towards Marley, as all of his pent-up frustration exploded out of him. "What? No, no, of course not! But I feel like you won't even consider it. Like, you don't care that it's bumming me out. What do you want me to do?"

Marley sat up, yelling back at him as her own frustration with the situation seeped out of her as well. "I just don't want to be pressured into doing something I don't want to do!"

"Who is pressuring you, Marley? I have been the most patient, the most understanding!" Jake snapped back. "I mean, I used to stop calling a girl and she would let me into her pants after six hours!"

And that last comment, right there, summed up Marley's feelings towards Jake right now. Sex was a big deal for her, and while she did feel like she loved Jake enough to pursue something more physical, she wasn't going to do it just for the sake of doing it. She felt like all he cared about was her body, and if she wasn't going to "put out" for him, he would just go find someone else who would. Someone like Bree. If he was going to make those comments about other girls, maybe Marley's recent suspicions were right.

"Then go be with one of those girls! S-someone like Bree! Go, have fun!" She screamed, before turning away from him as she continued to tear up.

Jake, realizing how much of a dick he was being, calmed down, as he climbed onto the bed gently and put a hand on Marley's shoulder. Sex wasn't everything, but as a teenage boy, it might as well be. As he began to apologize, Marley moved away from him and stomped out of his room, and eventually, out of the entire house. "Marley, wait!" He called, but it was too late, as she was gone.

Jake flopped onto his bed, putting his hands over his face and groaning. He didn't mean for this to happen – he just wanted to express his love for Marley in a more physical way. I don't need her. I can call up one of the many girls at McKinley to get me what I want! He thought to himself. I'll just call up Bree. He reached for his phone, but hesitated. But I don't want to lose Marley. Again, this shouldn't have been an issue, but Jake was really struggling with what to do here. As his mind began racing, he slowly began to daydream.

{In his daydream, Jake finds himself in the auditorium with Marley, who is in her costume from Grease's "You're The One That I Want" number}

Yeah, ooh, look at her

{Jake and Marley begin to dance seductively together}

She's a bad mama jama

Just as fine as she can be

She's a bad mama jama

Just as fine as she can be

{Marley begins to walk away as Jake follows}

Her body measurements are perfect in every dimension

She's got a figure

That's sure enough paying attention

{Marley walks behind a curtain as Jake falls to his knees}

She's poetry in motion

A beautiful sight to see

I get so excited viewing her anatomy

{Bree walks out from behind the curtain, in the same costume Marley was in. Jake, confused, begins to dance with her}

She's built, oh, she's stacked

Got all the curves that men like

{Bree pushes Jake onto a chair as she dances around him}

She's built, oh, she's stacked

Got all the curves that men like

Look at her!

{The scene cuts to Jake following Bree down the hallway}

She's a bad mama jama

Just as fine as she can be

{Bree turns around, and as Jake blinks, Marley appears in her place}

She's a bad mama jama

Just as fine as she can be

{Jake is now in McKinley's dance studio as he dances with Marley as Cheerios surround them}

Looks like she's poured into the gold

She bad

The essence of beauty

Ooh, such lovely hair

{Jake spins Marley around and catches her as suddenly, Bree is in her place once again}

She's foxy, classy

Oh, sexy sassy,

She's heavenly

A treat for the eye to see

{Bree moves in as if she's going to kiss Jake, but he pulls away}

She's built, oh, she's stacked

Got all the curves that men like

{Jake moonwalks over to Marley as the two begin to dance}

She's built, oh, she's stacked

Got all the curves that men like

Ooh wee!

{Jake moves in to kiss Marley as she pulls away}

She's a bad mama jama

Just as fine as she can be

{The room clears, and all that remains are Jake and Bree}

She's a bad mama jama

Just as fine as she can be

As Jake's fantasy ends, it turns out that in reality, he and Bree really were in the dance studio, working on the choreography for the upcoming Cheerios routine. From outside the room Marley watched, clearly upset that Jake was still working with Bree after their argument the day before. Unique and Kitty each stood by Marley's side, Unique putting a hand on her shoulder.

"That boy better not hurt you." Unique said, staring angrily into the classroom.

Kitty nodded in agreement. "That Bree bitch is nothing but trouble. Don't worry, Marley, we'll make sure she keeps it in her pants."

As Unique and Kitty walked away, Marley whispered to herself, "But what about him?" She lingered in the hallway for a minute longer as she too left the doorway, leaving Bree to happily dance with Jake, who looked uncomfortable as he looked out to see Marley storming off.

"So, you want to be a music teacher?"

Finn and Penny walked through the University of Lima's campus, eating ice cream, and talking as they got to know each other. They took a seat outside the cafeteria, continuing their conversation as various students walked to and from class.

Finn nodded in response to her question. "Yeah, I really enjoy helping people and showing them how to be the best they can be. I loved being in glee club while I was in high school, and I've really enjoyed being their teacher, too."

Penny looked at him and smiled. "That's really sweet, Finn."

"Yeah. I'm sure it's a little weird for some of the kids, though, since I was just in the club with them a year ago and now, I'm kind of their boss." He replied, taking a bite of his chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream.

"Wait. You're a freshman?" Penny laughed, putting a hand on Finn's leg gently as she did so. Finn's face turned bright red. "You just seem much older than you are. You're really mature for your age!"

"Are you not a freshman?"

"Sophomore." Penny took a bite of her mint chocolate chip before continuing. "I want to be a nurse. In nursing school here at ULima, and interning as a student nurse over at McKinley, which is why I was there earlier."

"I see." Finn chuckled as he finished up his ice cream, tossing it in the trash. "Well, working at McKinley is awesome. Hopefully I'll see you around the teacher's lounge sometime."

"Are you going to zone out everytime I try to talk to you?" She teased as she giggled once again.

"I'll try not to." Finn replied with a laugh of his own.

Penny finished her ice cream and threw it away quickly, coming back to sit down next to Finn. "Are you seeing anyone, Finn?" She asked, playing with her hair as she did so.

Finn awkwardly looked down at his feet as he thought about his answer. He and Rachel had been broken up for a while, so technically yes, he was single. However, ever since Brody was out of the picture, he and Rachel had finally become friends again. They had talked almost every day on the phone and were pretty involved in each other's lives. Obviously, they weren't together, but Finn said it himself at Mr. Schue and Miss Pillsbury's first attempt at a wedding; You and I are endgame. They were bound to end up together at some point, and they were currently both single... but was now truly the best time to reconcile their love? As Finn pursues his teaching degree, and Rachel her dream Broadway role? For once, Finn was thinking a decision through, and he decided to go with his gut.

"No. No, I'm not."

Penny smiled softly. "Well, neither am I..." She reached over, took his phone, and put her number in it before giving it back. "Here's my number. Call me." And with that, she stood up and left.

Shock. Finn was shocked. A few days ago, she was just some girl he happened to make eye contact with at the quad, and now he got ice cream with her and got her number. He smirked to himself as he pumped his fist; Finn Hudson was back in the game.

At the mini-golf course, Tina putted for the third time on one hole, finally making it. She cheered for herself, writing "1" for her score on the hole as she followed Sam and Blaine to the next one.

"Cheating is morally wrong, Tina..." The voice of Tina's personal assistant, Dottie Kazatori, was heard as she hovered over Tina's shoulder. "I don't want you to be seen as a cheater... it'll ruin your reputation!"

"Nobody will track my mini-golf score down, Dottie. It's your job to make sure of that!" Tina barked as she approached her two friends, who waited for her at the next tee.

"No offense to you, Dottie, but Tina? Why did you drag your assistant along with you to mini-golfing?" Blaine inquired, taking his first shot down the 'fairway.' "I'm sure she has other things to do than to watch us play mini-golf and give you periodical tips."

"Yeah, it's not like you need a caddy for mini-golf," Sam spoke in agreement, taking his shot.

Tina snorted. "Please. I'm doing Dottie a favor by inviting her out. She had no plans, right Dottie?"

"It's actually my mother's birthday..."

"See? No plans." Tina shrugged her, and her friends, off as she took her shot, missing horribly.

Blaine briefly apologized to Dottie as the four made their way to the end of the next hole. Tina began to make some brief small talk, as to fill the void of silence, and to try and take Sam's mind off things. "So, Blaine, have you thought at all about how you're going to propose to Kurt?"

Blaine sighed. Talking about his potential engagement to Kurt? Yeah, that would absolutely distract Sam from missing Brittany. "Tina, I'm not sure now is the best time to discuss this... but yes, I have. I'm meeting with Jan to discuss my plans later this week."

Sam leaned against his putter as Blaine finished out the hole. "You mean the old lady who sold you the engagement ring?"

"She's sweet!" Tina exclaimed happily.

Blaine nodded. "Yeah, it turns out that she's gay too! She proposed to her girlfriend Liz right in front of Kurt and I at Breadstix right before Regionals. She told me she would be honored to take me under her wing as I navigate the concept of gay marriage. It'll be great to have someone who can more closely relate to my situation in my corner."

Sam nodded. "I was married once..." He said sadly, remembering he and Brittany's fake wedding when they thought the world was going to end.

Tina felt bad for bringing up Blaine's idea to propose. "Sam, I'm sorry..."

Sam did not respond, sitting on the green of the hole they were on, with a heavy sigh. Blaine gave Tina a look before sitting down next to him. "Listen, Sam, you know her leaving wasn't on you, right? She had an amazing opportunity to go to college a little early, and she had to jump on it. She loved you, you know that, but she tried long distance once with Santana... it didn't work then, so she was probably just scared of losing you the way she lost her." He put an arm around Sam, patting his shoulder. "I'm sorry, Sam. We should've addressed this sooner."

Tina promptly sat across from the two boys. "Yeah, long distance sucks. Look what happened to Mike and I! Maybe this is for the best."

"I wouldn't necessarily say it's for the best..." Blaine began.

"Maybe it is!" Tina interrupted.

Dottie raised her hand before giving her take. "Sam, I'll be your rebound if you want!"

Finally, Sam spoke. "Guys, I appreciate you listening and trying to make me feel better about the situation. I thought Brittany was the Sarah Michelle Gellar to my Freddie Prinze Jr... and I thought Blaine was the Matthew Lillard, and Tina the Linda Cardellini."

Tina whispered, "Is he comparing us to the Scooby-Doo cast?"

Sam continued. "The point is... I know Brittany made a decision that was the best for her, despite how bad it hurts. I'm happy for her, a-and I'm excited to see where her future takes her... but she's gone." He stood up and shrugged, shoving his hands in his pockets.

"Sam, wait..."

"She's gone, guys." He shook his head. "She's gone and I better learn how to face it."

{Sam walks away from Blaine, Tina, and Dottie}

Everybody's high on consolation

Everybody's trying to tell me what is right for me

Yeah

{Sam looks back at his friends before continuing onward}

My daddy tried to bore me with a sermon

But it's plain to see that they can't comfort me

{The scene cuts to Sam in his room, looking at pictures of him and Brittany}

Sorry, Charlie, for the imposition

I think I got it

I got the strength to carry on, oh yeah

I need a drink and a quick decision

Now it's up to me, ooh, what will be

{The scene cuts to Sam in the auditorium, playing guitar with the band behind him}

She's gone, she's gone

I better learn how to face it

She's gone, she's gone

I'd pay the devil to replace her

She's gone, and she's gone

Oh why, what went wrong?

{Flashbacks of Sam and Brittany throughout season 4 begin to play}

Get up in the morning, look in the mirror

One less toothbrush hanging in the stand, yeah

My face ain't looking any younger

Now I can see love's taken a toll on me

{The scene cuts to Sam walking down the halls of McKinley, ripping down pictures of Brittany scattered across the walls}

She's gone

Oh, I, I better learn how to face it

She's gone, she's gone

I can't believe that she's gone

Oh I

I'd pay the devil to replace her

She's gone

I better learn how to face it

{Sam makes it to the choir room, spinning in a circle as he continues to sing}

She's gone, she's gone

I can't believe that she's gone

I'd pay the devil to replace her

She's gone, she's gone

She's gone, she's gone

She's gone, she's gone

As Sam finished his song, he sat in a chair in the choir room, alone, as he began to fully accept the fact that Brittany was gone. Blaine and Tina walked into the choir room, carefully, as to not further upset him.

"Sam? You okay?" Blaine asked gently.

Sam looked up with a soft smile. "I will be, yeah."

"So, let me get this straight. The chick we randomly saw on campus, you saw later at McKinley, then got ice cream with her, and finally, you got her number?" Puck asked, summarizing Finn's encounters with Penny as he leaned against his bed.

Finn simply nodded. "Sounds crazy, right?"

"Yeah, it does." Puck laughed, playfully punching Finn's arm and sitting at his desk. "I mean, good for you. She's cute, and she seems fun. You guys will probably get along pretty well!"

Finn laughed as he continued working on an assignment. "I guess I'll leave all the sorority girls to you now, huh?"

"Nah, I'm not even into them like that anymore. Since being here as your conscience, I've kind of started to grow out of the womanizer phase of my life. Just doesn't get my motor running anymore, you know? I want to find someone I can be with for life, someone to hold me down."

Finn blinked. He was witnessing the evolution of Noah Puckerman before his eyes, and he couldn't believe it. "Why?"

Puck looked over at a picture on his desk, a picture of he and Quinn's daughter, Beth. He had been thinking of her a lot lately; he really missed her. Last time he attempted to have a relationship with her, Quinn tried to sabotage their relationship with Beth's adoptive mother Shelby, and then Puck got into an intimate relationship with her. Things were... weird, to say the least. In the past year, now that Puck was taking his screenwriting serious and had established a relationship with his half-brother Jake, he realized that he was living his life way too fast and wanted to start to live things normally. All through high school he was so obsessed with his image and what people thought of him, he never got a chance to appreciate the little things in life. He gazed at the picture of Beth and began to miss her even more. He even started to miss Quinn. Quinn was truly the one that got away. They certainly had their ups and downs (sneaking around and cheating on Finn was not a good way to establish a firm bond), but Puck cared about her, and everything they had gone through together. Between his desire for a relationship with Beth and Quinn, as well as his admiration for Jake, Puck wanted to change who he was for the better.

He didn't let Finn in on all of that, though. Not yet anyway. "Just 'cause."

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Penny? Finn thought to himself – who else could it be? He quickly shot up, applying cologne, before answering the door to find...

"Jake?"

"Hey, Finn. Is my brother here?" Jake asked, leaning over to gaze inside the doorway.

Puck turned around and looked up. "What's up, bro with the fro?"

Jake stepped inside as Finn closed the door behind them. "Can I talk to you about something? Like, girl related?"

Santana was working at the Spotlight Diner for what felt like the millionth time, as she listened to Rachel ramble about Funny Girl for what felt like the millionth time, before locking eyes with Dani for what felt like... the first time, actually. Every time Santana looked at Dani, it felt like the first time they locked eyes all over again. Santana smiled as she thought about her, but quickly, her mind was erased as she remembered Rachel was standing right there. Santana interrupted whatever she was talking about to express her worries. "Can you help me? I'm getting that stinky panic sweat under my boobs."

Rachel looked at her, confused. "Why? Are you getting nervous on my behalf?"

"God, no." She motioned over to Dani, who waved as the two roommates look at her.

"You're nervous about Dani? Why?" Rachel asked curiously, putting a hand on her hip. "She's cute, she's sweet, she's gay... ask her out!"

"I've never been with an actual lesbian!" Santana blurted out. "It's been all bisexuals like Brittany, or college girls trying to experiment like Quinn..."

Suddenly, a lightbulb went off in Rachel's head as she realized why Santana was acting so out of character. "You're scared. I've never seen you scared before, it's so cute!"

"You tell no one of this. Seriously." Santana threatened, pointing at Rachel. "I think that I might like her, and it is terrifying!"

"Listen. She seems like a really smart girl, and if she is a smart girl, then she's not gonna miss out on an opportunity to be with someone as amazing as you!" Rachel said reassuringly.

"You're right." Santana admitted as Rachel nodded, taking her apron off and beginning to clock out for the day. "It's just... I'm nervous about letting somebody else in. I haven't really done that since Brittany."

Rachel nodded again. "I understand, San. I think Dani could be good for you, though! Just give it some thought." She gave her a quick hug as she left the diner.

Santana sat at the counter, thinking to herself. She had been through a lot the past year or so; she was outed, her relationship with her abuela deteriorated, she graduated, she dropped out of school, she moved to New York, and of course, she and Brittany broke up. Through all the adversity she faced, Brittany was the one constant. She was always there, and when the pressure of long distance got to Santana, she cracked, and then she lost the true light of her life. Life without Brittany was not boring, necessarily, but she felt like she was missing something.

Who am I kidding? Santana thought. I'm Santana Diabla Lopez. I'm a strong, independent woman, and I don't need to be so hung up on one girl!

It was true – Santana had been through hell and back, and she learned a lot about herself. She learned how to be comfortable with her sexuality, she learned how to open up to the people around her, and she was beginning to find herself in the world of New York City. She had lived quite a life, and she learned just as much.

{Santana begins filling up saltshakers with salt}

[Santana]

I recommend getting your heart trampled on to anyone

Yeah

I recommend walking around naked in your living room

Yeah

{Dani walks over as she overhears Santana singing, and joins in}

[Dani]

Swallow it down

What a jagged little pill

{Dani takes a seat next to Santana}

[Santana]

It feels so good

Swimming in your stomach

Wait until the dust settles

[Santana and Dani]

You live, you learn

You love, you learn

You cry, you learn

You lose, you learn

You bleed, you learn

You scream, you learn

{Santana and Dani begin cleaning up the diner}

[Dani]

I recommend biting off more than you can chew to anyone

I certainly do

[Santana]

I recommend sticking your foot in your mouth at any time

Feel free

{Dani and Santana both clock out and walk down the New York streets together}

[Santana and Dani]

Throw it down

The caution blocks you from the wind

Hold it up, to the rays

You wait and see when the smoke clears

{The two stop in front of Dani's apartment}

[Santana and Dani]

You live, you learn

You love, you learn

You cry, you learn

You lose, you learn

You bleed, you learn

You scream, you learn

{Santana takes a seat on the steps}

[Santana]

Wear it out

The way a three-year-old would do

Melt it down

You're gonna have to eventually anyway

{Dani sits next to her}

[Dani]

The fire trucks are coming up around the bend

[Santana and Dani]

You live, you learn

You love, you learn

You cry, you learn

You lose, you learn

You bleed, you learn

You scream, you learn

{The two scoot closer to each other}

[Santana and Dani]

You grieve, you learn

You choke, you learn

You laugh, you learn

You choose, you learn

You pray, you learn

You ask, you learn

You live, you learn

As the two finished their song, Santana realized she and Dani had a lot in common. Both were lesbians, obviously, but both had faced some rough adversity with their families when they came out of the closet, Santana with her grandmother and Dani with her parents. Maybe that's why Santana felt so attracted to Dani, because she could relate to a lot of the same problems that she herself went through and continued to go through. The two stared into each other's eyes, smiling. Santana figured Dani was probably thinking the same thing as her; they could be each other's person. She wouldn't come close to Brittany; nobody could, but Santana figured that Brittany was out of the picture for good, and maybe it was time to switch things up and give someone else a chance.

That person happened to be Dani, as the two leaned in and shared a sweet kiss on the steps leading up to Dani's apartment.
