Hey everyone, and Happy Mother's Day! This was a super fun chapter to write - with season 5 of Glee taking place in 2013/2014, I only included songs that were released in that time, so I'm sorry if there wasn't anything from Reputation, Folklore, etc..

As I said in the last chapter, we will be having a Billy Joel themed episode coming up, where some characters will be heading to New York! You'll discover one of these characters in this chapter ;)

Again, thank you all for the consistent feedback on this series. Super glad everybody likes it, and I hope you guys continue to keep reading and enjoying the series! Read on!

Episode 5x06: Glee (Taylor's Version)

Synopsis: Rachel is forced to stay late at her Funny Girl rehearsal as she has a one-on-one confrontation with Miriam Reign (Jessie Mueller). Meanwhile, in Lima, it's Taylor Swift week! Blaine finally talks to Finn about his intention to propose to Kurt, while also getting advice from Jan (Patty Duke), and Marley discovers something about Jake and Bree (Erinn Westbrook).

Mr. Schue stood in front of the choir room's whiteboard as he wrote down two words; Taylor Swift. The club responded with cheers, mainly from the girls, although Sam and Blaine joined in with the excitement. Most of the boys were less than enthusiastic.

"Seriously? Can't we do, like, Bruno Mars week or something?" Jake asked in an annoyed tone.

"Bruno Mars week is a great idea, Jake, but for now, it's all about Taylor Swift." Mr. Schue announced happily, placing the marker down. "Taylor Swift is one of the most popular artists in the world. She writes songs about her raw emotions, real-life experiences that truly anyone can relate to. She entered the music world as a country singer, but has evolved into the face of pop we know today. She's an incredibly talented artist, that unfortunately has only been covered twice in New Directions history."

"Yeah, by Santana when she broke up with Brittany, and then a duet by Puck and Coach Beiste." Tina rolled her eyes. "I cannot believe Puck did a TS number before I did."

"Taylor Swift is one of my favorite artists!" Marley clapped happily. "This assignment is going to be so much fun."

Sam nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I love Taylor Swift too. She's my guilty pleasure artist."

"I thought Barry Manilow was your guilty pleasure?" Artie asked.

Sam shrugged, "He is, but I have more than one. I have a tattoo that says Swiftie on my left arm!"

Mr. Schue and Finn exchanged an amused look before Schuester continued. "This week, Finn and I want you guys to get a little bit more personal, a little bit more vulnerable. The glee club has had some issues recently, and we just want everyone to be transparent with each other from hereon out. So, pick a song from Taylor Swift's catalog and put your own spin on it! Simple as that." The club cheered once again, with Sam saying, "It's so fun!," impersonating something Taylor says at the end of her song Stay Stay Stay. The bell rang as the class began to disperse.

Blaine approached his locker as he left the choir room, opening it up and smiling at a photo of him and Kurt before crossing off another day on his calendar. He hadn't seen Kurt since Regionals, but he was set to travel to New York in the coming weeks to visit and audition for NYADA. He was so excited to see his best friend and soulmate yet again! However, as he realized the date was rapidly approaching, he began to grow nervous. He was nervous for his NYADA audition, sure, but his eyes drifted to a small container in his locker. He had been planning to propose to Kurt since before Regionals, and he wondered if it would be the right time to pop the question on his trip. As he thought more and more, the thought of Kurt's answer haunted his mind. What if he says no? He asked Burt, Kurt's father, for his permission to propose, and although Burt seemed wary of the idea, there was still one more person Blaine wanted to ask before making his ultimate decision; Kurt's brother, Finn. Finn's opinion didn't mean as much as Burt, or even Kurt himself, but Blaine valued his opinion, and thought as someone who attempted to get married so young once before, he would have some good insight. He had been trying for weeks to talk to Finn about it but things kept... getting in the way.

And then, almost on cue, Blaine's thoughts were quickly interrupted by Tina. "Thinking of what song you're gonna sing for Taylor Swift week?"

Blaine shook his head. "No, I already have the perfect song lined up. I'm supposed to visit Jan later to talk a little bit more about gay marriage and the whole proposal thing, though."

Tina looked into his locker, following his eyes, when she realized he was staring at the ring. "I have a feeling you're deep in thought about the proposal."

"What if he says no, Tina?"

She shut his locker for him as they began walking away. "He's not going to!"

"What if the proposal just... isn't good enough, you know? I broke his heart in the worst way, Tina, a-and I need to make sure I do something big to prove I'll never do it again." Blaine said with a sigh. "And I haven't even talked to Finn yet, even though I keep trying to and-"

"Look, everything will fall into place." Tina assured him. "You're thinking about this way too much. You guys love each other, and honestly? That's all that matters. You'll get your chance to talk to Finn, and you'll propose when the time is right. Plus, you're seeing that Jan lady later, so she can help point you in the right direction!"

Blaine sighed again. "Do you mind coming with me to see Jan later? I could use some help from one of my best friends."

Tina smiled and nodded. "Of course, Blainey Days."

As Blaine smiled and walked off towards his class, Tina bolted down the hallway to find Sam and Artie before they went to the locker room before their gym class. She found them right outside the locker room, Sam pushing Artie's wheelchair; she stopped in front of the two of them before they entered the locker room.

"I'm walking here!" Sam said in a New York accent. "Dustin Hoffman, Midnight Cowboy."

"I'm not here for your impressions, Sam."

Artie looked up with a bright smile. "While you're here, Tina, I wanted to apologize again for how I acted last week. I hope you liked the stuff I did to help boost your Brown application."

"Yeah, and I'm sorry I said you dance like Ally from Austin and Ally." Sam added. Ally was notorious for being a horrible dancer - apparently, she reminded Sam of Tina.

Tina and Artie looked at him in unified confusion. "Excuse me?" Tina said in shock.

"You watch Austin and Ally?" Artie asked in disbelief.

Sam shrugged. "I watch it with my siblings!"

"Don't they live in Kentucky?"

Sam blinked. "Okay, fine, I'm an avid Disney Channel viewer. So what?"

Tina shook her head. "Guys, focus!" She clapped her hands together. "Look, I will fully forgive both of you, IF you help Blaine out with something." They nodded in unison as Tina continued, "I need you guys to make sure Finn is in the choir room tomorrow afternoon so Blaine can talk to him about something important, and don't let him escape before Blaine gets to talk, got it?"

Another nod from Artie, as Sam replied by saying, "You got it, dude!," in his best Mary-Kate and Ashley voice.

Meanwhile, Marley walked down the hallway with nothing but a smile on her face. She was easily the most enthused about the glee club's new assignment, and was eager to start singing some of her favorite Taylor Swift songs. Maybe she and Jake could sing Love Story! She had tons of different ideas, for both solos and duets with her boyfriend, but glee club wasn't the only thing she was excited about.

She had been watching television with her mother a few nights ago when she saw a commercial for a local song contest. The winner would get a chance to perform their song in Times Square on New Years Eve! Well, that was for one of the contests, anyway. After applying for the one she saw in the commercial, she went online and started applying for dozens more. With songs under her belt like Outcast and All or Nothing, she figured someone out there, in one of the contests she entered, would hear her music and give her a shot! Nobody could tell Marley anything different right now. She was on cloud nine; everything in her life was great.

"Marley."

Marley turned around to find her best friend, Unique, rushing up to her with urgency. Marley waved innocently and gave a great big smile. "Unique, hi!" Suddenly, Unique grabbed Marley by her hand and quickly began dragging her down the hallway. "We aren't late for history, are we?"

Unique stopped by her locker, taking a deep breath before saying, "I saw Jake with Bree."

Marley's mood changed in an instant, her smile fading. "What?" She shook her head in disbelief. "No, he wouldn't do that. He told me all the things he said to her during Michael week, and after Finn kicked her out of glee club-"

"She was crying in the hallway and Jake was consoling her." Unique swallowed. "I saw them."

Suddenly, Marley was rushing down the halls of McKinley, fighting back tears, as her best day was potentially turning into her worst. Unique tried to keep up, but Marley Rose was on a mission. She stormed up to Jake, who was talking to some of his friends from basketball, and he turned to her and smiled. "Hey, babe!" He quickly realized she was upset and walked away from his friends. "Are you alright?"

"Tell me it isn't true."

Jake looked at her confused. "What isn't true?"

"After all the things Bree has said and done to not just me, but all of your friends in glee club. After she made it clear how she felt about you, after Finn kicked her out because of her attitude, after you stopped hanging with her and telling her to back off... please, please tell me you aren't still sneaking around with her. Please tell me you aren't betraying my trust, cheating on me with... h-her."

Jake noticed Unique standing behind her, instantly realizing what happened. He began to shake his head, "Marley-"

"Oh, my god." Marley gasped.

"It's not what it seems, babe, I swear." He placed his hands on her shoulders gently, attempting to clear the air. "Please, let me expla-"

"No! Just stop!" Marley screamed, pulling away and pushing away from Jake. She went flying back into the lockers before quickly running away, continuing to put up a fight against her tears.

"Marley!" Jake called after her but it was too late. He looked back to Unique, who simply looked him up and down in disgust before walking off.

Marley found herself in the choir room, alone, as she flopped onto a chair and broke out into tears. Jake betrayed her trust... when she thought she changed him. She pulled her phone out and stared at her lockscreen, which was a photo of her and Jake, before putting it back into her pocket. Her face changed. She was no longer upset - she was angry.

{Marley sits in the choir room, alone, staring at the floor}

Once upon a time, a few mistakes ago

I was in your sights, you got me alone

You found me, you found me

You found me-e-e-e-e

{Marley begins to pace around the choir room}

I guess you didn't care, and I guess I liked that

And when I fell hard, you took a step back

Without me, without me

Without me-e-e-e-e

And he's long gone when he's next to me

And I realize the blame is on me

{Marley begins looking through Taylor Swift sheet music}

'Cause I knew you were trouble when you walked in

So shame on me now

I'll flew me to places I've never been

'Til you put me down, oh

I knew you were trouble when you walked in

So shame on me now

Flew me to places I've never been

Now I'm lying on the cold hard ground

{Marley throws all the sheet music into the air}

Oh, oh-oh

Trouble, trouble, trouble

Oh, oh-oh

Trouble, trouble trouble

{Marley falls to the floor as she begins to clean up the sheet music}

No apologies, he'll never see you cry

Pretends he doesn't know that he's the reason why

You're drowning, you're drowning

You're drowning-ing-ing-ing-ing

And I heard you moved on from whispers on the street

A new notch in your belt is all I'll ever be

And now I see, now I see

Now I see-e-e-e-e

{Marley stands up and puts the sheet music back on the piano}

He was long gone when he met me

And I realize the joke is on me, yeah

{The scene cuts to a fantasy of Marley on stage performing with Kitty, Tina, Unique, and Sugar dancing around her}

I knew you were trouble when you walked in

So shame on me now

I'll flew me to places I've never been

'Til you put me down, oh

I knew you were trouble when you walked in

So shame on me now

Flew me to places I've never been

Now I'm lying on the cold hard ground

{All the glee girls flop to the floor}

Oh, oh-oh

Trouble, trouble, trouble

Oh, oh-oh

Trouble, trouble, trouble

{Marley gets up and walks off the stage into the crowd}

And the saddest fear starts creeping in

{Marley approaches Jake, who is in the crowd}

That you never loved me

Or her, or anyone, or anything

Yeah!

{Marley pushes Jake off his chair in her fantasy, before it ends and the scene returns to Marley singing alone in the choir room}

I knew you were trouble when you walked in

So shame on me now

I'll flew me to places I've never been

'Til you put me down, oh

I knew you were trouble when you walked in

So shame on me now

Flew me to places I've never been

Oh, oh-oh

Trouble, trouble, trouble

Oh, oh-oh

Trouble, trouble, trouble

I knew you were trouble when you walked in

Trouble, trouble, trouble

I knew you were trouble when you walked in

Trouble, trouble trouble

Marley's performance ends with her sitting on the floor of the choir room once again, curling up into a ball and beginning to cry once again, frustrated in Jake betraying her trust yet again. Maybe everyone was right; maybe Jake Puckerman wasn't a good guy after all.

Rachel arrived at the Saint James Theatere with a coffee in hand, ready for another day of Funny Girl rehearsals. For once, she wished she was going to work at the Spotlight Diner; Kurt, Santana, and Dani were all working the night shift tonight and she had to admit, she was kind of jealous, especially since they all had gotten so close since the formation of Pamela Landsbury. However, it was just one night. She'd see them later, and besides, Rachel had scheduled rehearsal anyway. Another day of watching someone else live out her dream! Yay!

In all seriousness, she was totally okay with being the understudy. Even Barbra started small, right? She just didn't appreciate how rude Miriam Reign was. She was an absolute diva, and as Rachel began to realize, was probably how she seemed to everyone in high school. She complained about the smallest things, she was stubborn, but God, she was talented, and she knew it, too.

She really does remind me of me, Rachel thought to herself as she took a seat in her dressing room, finishing her coffee and brushing her hair out of her face. She was a hard worker, always dedicated to her craft, and considering this was her life's work, this was no different. She had dealt with Cassandra July all year, and it taught her to be resilient. Working with Miriam Reign was no different. She eventually proved herself to Cassandra, and she would prove herself to Miriam. She would prove herself to Rupert, to Paolo, to the entire Funny Girl cast, to everyone from McKinley and Lima, and to the entire world that Rachel Berry did not back down from a challenge.

Suddenly, a knock at the door took Rachel out of her inner pep talk. The door opened, and there stood Miriam Reign, who flashed the coldest, bitchiest, fakest smile. "Berry."

Rachel gave her one right back. "Good afternoon, Mrs. Reign!"

"Rehearsals are going to run late today." She folded her arms in the doorway. "You prepared to commit to staying late?"

Rachel nodded, taking this adversity head on. "Absolutely."

Miriam's eyes traveled to the coffee on the dresser. "You're going to need more of that, dear. We're going to be here throughout the night. See you in a minute!" She flashed another smile and disappeared from the doorway before Rachel had a chance to interject.

Rachel stared at the doorway, then looked down to her coffee and just blinked. When she woke up this morning, she expected to be the only roommate to be going to bed at a decent hour. In the tone of Miriam's voice, she sensed some kind of challenge. A competition, even. Did Miriam not think Rachel Berry had the balls to stay into the wee hours of the morning?

You're so on.

She stood up and quickly changed into more comfortable clothes for rehearsal. If it was an all nighter Miriam wanted, it was an all nighter she was going to get. None of them knew the potential and the drive that Rachel Berry equipped. She was an understudy, sure, but had the ambition of a leading woman. They had absolutely no idea what they were in for. She looked into the mirror and flashed herself a quick smile before, ready to seize the day. Or, in this case, night.

"So, what do you have going on in glee club this week?" Penny asked Finn as the two ate lunch together in the teachers lounge.

With a mouthful of PB&J, Finn replied, "Taylor Swift."

Penny giggled. "You have a cyst?" She laughed harder at Finn's reaction. "Try not to talk with your mouth full, honey."

Finn felt his face get a little red there. They had gone on a few casual dates since they first met, but ever since he helped Penny save her job a few weeks before, they had began officially dating. Finn really enjoyed her company; she was funny, a good listener, great to talk to... beautiful, of course. It was nice to get back into the dating scene, especially since his breakup with Rachel earlier that year. She had finally met a couple of his friends, too! He took her bowling with Puck, Sam, and Artie recently, and they all seemed to like her. Even his mom and Burt liked her! So, it was safe to say things were going well.

"Taylor Swift." He repeated, after swallowing his sandwich and laughing himself.

Penny's eyes lit up. "Oh my God, I love her!"

"You do?"

Penny nodded her head quickly. "I've been to so many of her concerts. You know, when she comes to Cleveland and stuff. I have all her albums, and Picture to Burn was my ringtone for a while!"

Finn's eyes widened at that last part. "That's a pretty hardcore ringtone."

"My ex was pretty similar to the one described in the song." She shrugged in response. "But, yes, I'm a big Taylor Swift fan. Why her for this week's assignment?"

"Well, she's barely been covered in glee club history, so Mr. Schue and I decided now was probably a good time to give her the credit she deserves." Finn took a sip of his coffee, which was no doubt doused with sugar. "You should sit in on one of our lessons!"

"Really?" Penny slowly began to smile.

"Yeah, why not? We have guests in the choir room all the time!" Finn said excitedly. "Plus, if she's one of your favorite artists, you should be there."

"Hold on, Mark McGrath." In walked Sue Sylvester, wearing a Kanye West-themed tracksuit and 2008 era sunglasses, like he wore in the Stronger music video. "I'm gonna let you finish, but you're a fifth year high school student who aspires to be a young William Schuester. And, also, your lesson is going to be terrible."

Penny looked at Finn before turning her head to Sue. "What's your master plan this week?"

"Plan?" Sue laughed. "Bold of you to assume I plan any of my attacks on the glee club, Doogie Howser. Everything I say and do to Snorlax here and the rest of his little Munchlaxes is all off the dome." Apparently, Sue Sylvester was making Pokemon references now. "And, no, I don't have a plan to ruin your fun this week."

"Is it a full moon or something?" Finn asked, looking out the window dramatically.

"No, Freakazoid, I just don't have the time nor the patience to fool around with you this week." Sue took a seat at one of the tables behind them. "I, too, am a Taylor Swift fan, and while I think your kids will likely butcher her discography, I don't want to disrespect her by bashing them for their performances."

"You like Taylor Swift?" Finn asked in shock.

"Aren't you, like, way older than her target demographic?" Penny replied in unified surprise.

Sue scoffed. "I am coming up on my 30th birthday!" She quickly turned away to watch something on her laptop, offended.

Penny and Finn looked at each other and struggled not to burst into laughter at the thought of Sue being 30. As the giggles faded away, Penny asked, "Do you really mean it? I can come to glee club this week?"

"Absolutely." Finn responded with a smile, before the two quickly pecked each others lips.

{The scene cuts to Sam sitting on a stool in the choir room, beginning to play his guitar, with Artie in his wheelchair next to him}

[Artie]

All I knew is this morning when I woke

Is I know something now

Know something now I didn't before

{Artie wheels over to Kitty and takes her hands gently}

And all I've seen since 18 hours ago

Is green eyes and freckles and your smile

In the back of my mind making me feel like

{Artie rejoins Sam in the middle of the room}

[Sam and Artie]

I just wanna know you better

Know you better, know you better now

I just wanna know you better

Know you better, know you better now

I just wanna know you better

Know you better, know you better now

I just wanna know you, know you, know you

{The glee club is shown to enjoy their duet; Kitty is blushing. Finn and Penny are sitting together with Finn's hand on her leg}

[Sam and Artie]

'Cause all I know is we said, "Hello"

And your eyes look like coming home

All I know is a simple name

Everything has changed

All I know is you held the door

You'll be mine and I'll be yours

All I know since yesterday

Is everything has changed

{Jake looks at Marley, who turns away quickly. Unique is seen glaring at him}

[Sam]

And all my walls stood tall, painted blue

And I'll take 'em down, take 'em down

And open up the door for you

{Mr. Schue is shown enjoying their performance}

[Artie]

And all I feel in my stomach is butterflies

The beautiful kind, making up for lost time

Taking flight, making me feel right

[Sam and Artie]

I just wanna know you better

Know you better, know you better now

I just wanna know you better

Know you better, know you better now

I just wanna know you better

Know you better, know you better now

I just wanna know you, know you, know you

{Tina and Blaine are shown hugging briefly}

[Sam and Artie]

'Cause all I know is we said, "Hello"

And your eyes look like coming home

All I know is a simple name

Everything has changed

{Artie winks to Kitty, who waves and blows him a kiss}

[Sam and Artie]

All I know is you held the door

You'll be mine and I'll be yours

All I know since yesterday

Is everything has changed

{Sam gets off his stool and follows Artie around the choir room while playing his guitar}

[Artie]

All I know is we said, "hello"

So dust off your highest hopes

All I know is pouring rain

And everything has changed

{Artie wheels himself over to Kitty, stopping in front of her once again as Sam plays the guitar behind him}

[Artie]

All I know is a new found grace

All my days, I'll know your face

All I know since yesterday

[Sam and Artie]

Is everything has changed

As the bell rang, the glee club began to disperse. Joe and Ryder gave Sam a quick high-five for the performance, while Sugar mumbled, "That should be me," before heading out with the rest of the club. Everyone seemed to forget that Sugar and Artie were an item earlier in the year, but apparently, she didn't.

Rolling her eyes quickly, Kitty gave Artie a hug, before kissing his cheek and whispering, "Good luck."

He nodded back, "You too," before all that remained in the choir room were Artie, Sam, Blaine, Tina, Finn, Penny, and Mr. Schue.

Schuester exited into his office, and as Finn spoke to Penny privately, he noticed Sam, Tina, and Artie slowly approaching him. Finn glanced from Penny to his friends, looking confused. "Everything okay?" He asked.

"What did you think of our performance?" Artie asked. "I wanted to dedicate a number to my girlfriend, Kitty. Everything Has Changed is a song about realizing how your life changes when you fall in love, and I wanted to capture the essence of that in a number for her. In front of the entire club."

"Well, that's great, Artie! I think you and Kitty are a great couple, and you did awesome." Finn smiled, high-fiving his friend. He looked up to Sam, "Why'd you sing it with him, Sam?"

"I'm a Swiftie, okay?" Sam claimed, placing his guitar down. "And also, it was all apart of our master plan."

Tina smacked his arm. "Sam!"

"Sorry."

"What master plan?" Finn asked in a somewhat impatient tone.

Suddenly, Penny stood up, waving goodbye to Finn before high-tailing it out of the choir room. "She was in on it." Sam stated proudly.

In typical Finn fashion, he was still lost. "In on what?"

Suddenly, the wall of Tina, Sam, and Artie broke apart as Blaine stood behind them, approaching Finn. "Finn, I need to talk to you. I've been trying for weeks, and everytime I get close, something comes up, and enough is enough. Look, I need to talk to you about-"

"Kurt?"

Blaine blinked in surprise, as Sam and Artie exited the choir room, leaving just Finn, Tina, and Blaine. "Uh, yeah. How did you know?"

"I've known this whole time. I've kind of been putting this conversation off because I think I know where this is headed." Finn stood up, shoving his hands into his pockets awkwardly. "Let me guess, you want to propose to my brother, right?"

"He's so smart, but in an unorthodox way..." Tina whispered.

Blaine took a deep breath and nodded. "Yeah. I do."

"Blaine, you cheated-"

"And that was the biggest mistake I could possibly make, okay?" Blaine snapped. "I love Kurt, so incredibly much. I love this family. Your mom is one of the sweetest ladies I've ever met. Burt is a great father to not only you and Kurt, but to all of us. A terrific role model who is always there for all of us glee kids. You..." He calmed down as he took a deep breath. "Finn, you're our leader. We look up to you. You were our quarterback, our male lead, our anchor... and now you're on your way to becoming the best teacher we've ever had. Maybe even better than Mr. Schue."

Finn smiled gently at that.

"But, your brother is the love of my life." Blaine continued. "I've loved him since the moment I laid eyes on him. He is the most smart, caring, handsome, talented man I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. And yes, I cheated on him, and it was an all-time low for me. I thought we were drifting apart, with him being away in New York and having his own life, and I was nervous I wasn't going to be apart of that. I realize what I did heightened those odds, but I've done absolutely everything I can to prove how sorry I am to him and how much he means to me. We were able to put this whole cheating thing behind us. We were able to learn from both of our mistakes to become not only better significant others, but better individuals as a whole. I swear to you, Finn, I will never, ever, hurt your brother again. I know if you do, you'll kick my ass like you did to Brody."

Finn chuckled again, taking another seat before taking a deep breath. "Who told you about that?" He honestly had forgotten about the whole Brody situation.

"Kurt did!" Tina chimed in, with Blaine nodding in agreement.

Finn took another breath. "Look, Blaine, I hate to say it but I know a thing or two about cheating, and yes, it's wrong. I think we both know that, but I think I really learned from my experiences with cheating and it made me a better person. I'm glad to hear it changed you for the better, too. And... I've known you and Kurt were in love since that party in Rachel's basement, and I know you two are soulmates, but aren't you worried that you're too young? I mean, didn't Burt say that himself?"

"Burt, and a bunch of our friends, told you the same thing, but that didn't stop you from proposing to Rachel, did it?" Blaine countered.

Finn blinked. "Fair point." He looked up at him and said, "Look, I don't think age matters when it comes to marriage. Plus, it's just a proposal; you don't have to get married right away. And, with gay marriage finally becoming accepted in society, I understand this is a big deal for both of you. You're a great friend, Blaine, and I know you much you mean to me, my brother, the glee club, and my family. You have my support on this, 100%, man."

Blaine, with tears in his eyes, embraced Finn. As the two hugged, Blaine couldn't help but think of how their relationship had developed over the years. They started out as mere acquaintances, given how Kurt and Blaine started out as friends and Finn was his brother, but as Kurt and Blaine began dating, and Blaine transferred to McKinley, there was some kind of unspoken rivalry between the two. He never really understood, but Finn eventually explained he was jealous and felt threatened by his talent. They put aside any animosity they had toward each other to win Sectionals last year, and from there on became good friends. Their relationship somewhat strained when Blaine cheated, but even still, they remained relatively close as the school year went on. Now, as they hugged in the choir room, Blaine felt closer to Finn than he ever did. Some people might not think Finn's opinion matters in terms of his proposal to Kurt, but it mattered to Blaine. He was his friend, his boyfriend's brother, and hopefully would become Blaine's brother one day, too.

"Thank you, Finn." Blaine managed, wiping his tears as he began to compose himself. "Now, if you don't mind, I have a song that Tina and I would like to sing for our Taylor Swift assignment."

Finn took a seat and opened his arms up. "The floor is yours, Anderson!" He laughed and smiled, eager to see what the two had came up with.

[Blaine]

Oh, oh, oh

Oh, oh, oh

Oh-oh, oh-oh

[Tina]

Stand there like a ghost

Shaking from the rain, rain

She'll open up the door and say, "Are you insane?"

Say it's been a long six months

And you were too afraid to tell her what you want, want

{Tina comes and sits next to Finn, showing him a picture of Kurt and Blaine and motioning to Blaine}

[Tina]

And that's how it works

That's how you get the girl

And then, you say

[Blaine]

I want you for worse or for better

I would wait forever and ever

Broke your heart, I'll put it back together

I would wait forever and ever

{Tina gets up to dance with Blaine}

[Tina]

And that's how it works

That's how you get the girl, girl

Oh-oh, oh

And that's how it works

That's how you get the girl, girl

{The scene cuts to a fantasy of Blaine and Kurt in the Bushwick apartment, making cookies together and laughing}

[Tina]

Remind her how it used to be, yeah-yeah

With pictures in frames of kisses on cheeks, cheeks

{Kurt kisses Blaine's cheek}

[Tina]

Tell her how you must have lost your mind, ooh-ooh

When you left her all alone

And never told her why, why

{Blaine begins to sing to Kurt in the fantasy}

[Blaine]

And that's how it works

That's how I lost the girl

And now, I say

{Blaine and Kurt begin to dance around as Blaine continues to sing}

[Blaine]

I want you for worse or for better

I would wait forever and ever

Broke your heart, I'll put it back together

I would wait forever and ever

{The scene cuts back to Blaine, Tina, and Finn in the choir room}

[Blaine and Tina]

And that's how it works

That's how you get the girl, girl

Oh-oh, oh

And that's how it works

That's how you get the girl, girl

{Tina runs over and pulls Finn out of his seat as they all dance together}

[Blaine]

And you know

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

That I don't want you to go, oh, oh

{Blaine fantasizes about singing to Kurt once more}

[Blaine]

Remind me how it used to be

Pictures in frames of kisses on cheeks

And say you want me, yeah-yeah

{The scene cuts back to the choir room}

[Tina]

And then you say

[Blaine and Tina]

I want you for worse or for better

I would wait forever and ever

Broke your heart, I'll put it back together

I would wait forever and ever

And that's how it works

That's how you get the girl, girl

Oh-oh, oh

And that's how it works

That's how you get the girl, girl

[Blaine]

And that's how it works

[Tina]

That's how you get the girl

Now that he finally got to talk about Kurt with him, a weight was lifted off of Blaine's shoulders. As the number came to an end, Blaine quickly pulled Finn and Tina in for a group hug, all three laughing.

Rachel rushed into the bathroom as she felt her phone buzz for what felt like the millionth time. She was in the middle of a run-through of Who Are You Now? when Miriam scolded her for not silencing her phone during rehearsal, as it was "unprofessional." She was right, but it still felt like Rachel had a big red target on her back anytime she made a mistake. Regardless, she locked the bathroom door and looked at her phone to find multiple missed calls from Santana. She stared at it, confused; wasn't she at work? She called back, with Santana answering right away.

"Berry!" She yelled into the phone, followed by a giggle. "Where are you?"

"I'm at rehearsals... aren't you at Spotlight?"

"Gunther cut us early. Kurt, Dani, and I are drinking and watching Disney movies back at the apartment. When are you gonna be home?" Cue another giggle, which Rachel realized was the sound of intoxication.

With a heavy sigh, Rachel said jealously, "I can't come home anytime soon. I'm stuck in a late night rehearsal... probably gonna be here for a while."

They weren't on FaceTime, but Rachel could just tell there was a pout over the phone. "But we're watching Beauty and the Beast!"

"Yeah, isn't this the movie about you and Finn?" Kurt chimed in the background, followed by more drunken laughter.

Rachel's face began to burn. "Stop!" She hissed. She was ignored by the sound of laughter. "Look, guys, have fun and be safe, but I have to stay at the theater for a little bit longer. I have to go before Miriam explodes again."

The drunken goodbyes made Rachel's ear ring as she hung up the phone and thrusted it back into her pocket angrily. Here she was, stuck missing some quality roommate bonding time once again. Was she jealous? Of course she was, but she kept reminding herself that Barbra probably had FOMO, too, and that didn't stop her from winning a Tony. The feeling of exclusion certainly didn't stop Patti LuPone from winning her two Tony's, either! Suck it up, buttercup, Rachel thought to herself as she stormed out of the bathroom once again to the stage. However, the stage that was once crowded with people when she left was now empty.

Well, it wasn't exactly empty. Rachel and Miriam stood on opposite ends of the stage, staring at each other.

"Where did everyone go?" Rachel squeaked, clearly nervous. "I thought this was going to be a late rehearsal."

Miriam glanced around her. "Everyone went home... this rehearsal is just for the two of us." She grabbed a stool that stood nearby and sat down, before grabbing another stool and dragging it next to her. She patted it, motioning for Rachel to come, which she did. As Rachel sat, Miriam spoke, "You remind me a lot of myself."

Rachel looked at her in awe. "I do?"

Miriam nodded. "I got into Broadway very young, likely around your age. I was driven, ambitious, thought I was the most talented person in the room... nobody could tell me anything." She began to play with the ring on her finger. "You mentioned you saw me play Rizzo in Grease?" Rachel nodded. "I was the understudy at first. The actress who played her was a bitch, to put it bluntly. She made my life during that production a nightmare. I would be berated every day because I was slightly off-key, or I didn't 'fully capture the essence' of the character. You know, little things. Nitpicking. One day, she got into an accident, and I was thrown on stage to perform Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee."

"And?" Rachel asked in anticipation.

"And from then on, I was the Rizzo of our production. My hard work paid off, and everyone saw I was equally as talented as the original actress, all while being much more pleasant to work with." Miriam explained. "When she recovered from her accident she tried to get the role back but it was too late. Plus, I told her off a bit, too."

"I-I don't understand," Rachel admitted softly. "Why are you telling me this?"

"I'm telling you this, Rachel, because I want you to understand Broadway is a cutthroat, ruthless environment to work in." She stood up. "It's ultra competitive. You might think you're on the top of the world, and then one day, life derails you and your career is over. Going into this, you might think you're this amazing star, and everyone loves you, but what you don't know is that most people are out to get you. They don't want to see you succeed, only themselves, and it's important to have thick skin and to stay focused, and not let anyone derail you."

"You know nothing about me, Miss Reign. I am focused, and I do have thick skin. I've been working towards this production since I was in diapers and nothing, and I mean nothing, will derail me." Rachel said defensively, folding her arms. "And you know what? Just because you came up in a negative Broadway environment doesn't mean you have to impose that on me, a-and the rest of the cast!"

Miriam sighed. "You're right, Rachel. This is why I said you remind me of myself, because when I have snapped at you, I see your reaction and it is truly like looking in the mirror. It's not right and I'm sorry."

Rachel seemed taken aback - she was not expecting that. "O-oh. Well, thank you."

"And you're right about another thing; you don't have to go through hell and back for your dreams just because I did." Miriam added, swaying back and forth. "When I came into this business I promised myself I would help the next generation of Broadway talent navigate throughout this path we've paved for ourselves, and I haven't fulfilled that promise to myself. But, that stops now." She walked over to Rachel and took her hands. "From hereon out, I am your mentor. I am here if you need advice, constructive fedback, or an ear to listen. I am going to help you make it to the top, because you clearly deserve it."

Rachel's small smile slowly grew from ear to ear. "Wow. Thank you, Miss Reign, I will not disappoint."

"I know you won't. And please, call me Miriam."

The two shared a laugh before quickly hugging. Now that they had came to an understanding, Rachel was confident the rest of her experience on Funny Girl would be amazing. She felt much more comfortable on that stage in the Saint James Theatere now, and she would no longer dread coming to rehearsal. Miriam Reign had her back.

Marley and Unique sat on the bleachers of the football field, watching Cheerios practice as they spoke with Kitty about the whole Jake/Bree situation. The three of them had gotten close recently, and since she was on the Cheerios with Bree, Kitty was the best possible person to confront her about the situation. It didn't hurt that she was one of the biggest bitches at McKinley, either. Kitty was definitely someone you wanted to have on your good side.

"And you're positive it was her?" Kitty asked, trying to confirm.

Unique nodded. "I can smell trashy extensions from a mile away. It's kind of like my superpower."

"Why, because you use them?" Kitty asked sassily with a hand on her hip. When she noticed Unique's reaction, she responded, "Sorry, I'm still getting used to this whole 'nice' thing." She turned to Marley. "Look, have you talked to Puckerman about this? Better yet, have you dumped his sorry ass for lying to you about sneaking around with her?"

Marley stared at her feet. "All I know is what Unique told me; she saw Bree was crying in the hallway or something. Jake was comforting her. I don't know why he's continuing to give her the time of day!" She kicked the bleacher in frustration. "He said it 'wasn't what it looked like,' and he tried to explain but I walked away."

"That boy is a capital H-O-E, hoe." Unique rolled her eyes, motioning to Bree. "If he wants to get with Great Value Teyana Taylor, we should let him! He doesn't deserve Marley after the crap he's been doing recently. Boy is starting to become a mirror image of his man-slut of a brother."

"Unique, he's not like Puck..." Marley said gently. "His brother is much, much worse."

"I would know... I dated him!" Kitty said in agreement. "He's handsome, sure, but I've never seen a man so eager to hop from woman to woman." She glanced back to the Cheerios, who were in the middle of an incredibly complex pyramid, before turning back to the girls. "Marley, are you sure you want me to do this?"

Marley nodded, looking back down to her feet as Kitty trotted down the bleachers and onto the football field, where the Cheerios were now taking a water break. They all look exhausted, and Sue, who sat on opposite end of the bleachers, screamed into her megaphone, "You think this is hard? Try being a paraplegic, that's hard!"

Kitty approached Bree, who was chatting with a smaller group of Cheerios, by tapping her on the shoulder. Bree turned and gave Kitty a smug look, glancing at her up and down. "Hello, pussycat! Done working with your charity project known as the glee club, and decided to join us Cheerios in practice?" She motioned over to the bleachers where Unique and Marley sat. "I saw you talking to that meatball and the skewer he/she goes on."

"Cut the crap, you bitch," Kitty snapped, getting in her face. "I know you're still hot for the Half-Blood Prince."

"Who, Jake?" Bree snickered. "I mean, how could you not? Oreos are my favorite cookie, after all."

Kitty's eyes rolled so hard, it looked like they did a backflip. "Wanna tell me why you were crying like a baby on his shoulder?"

Bree's attitude suddenly faded. Kitty had seen that look before; the look of fear, and potential sadness and frustration. She saw it when Finn kicked Bree out of the New Directions, and little did she know, the same face was made when Jake yelled at her in the hallway. "I wasn't." Bree said carefully. Kitty noticed her hand was balled up into a fist, slightly shaking.

"Unique said she saw you and him in the hallway?" Kitty asked, ignoring Bree's sudden mood swing. "Don't play dumb with me, whore, what's going on with you two?"

Bree suddenly began running directly toward Marley and Unique, who instantly stood up as she saw her approaching. Kitty, in a panic, followed. Bree stomped up the bleachers towards the two girls, with Kitty not far behind, as Unique stood in front of her friend to protect her. "Girl, you better check yourself before you-"

"Save it," Bree seethed at Unique through gritted teeth, before looking at Marley in the eyes. "What did he tell you?"

"What are you talking about?" Marley asked, her face getting red with anger.

"Don't bullshit me, Rose, what did he tell you?" Bree practically yelled, getting louder by the second. "I told him that stuff in confidence. I-I don't even know why I told him!"

"Why are you telling my boyfriend anything in confidence?" Uncharacteristically, Marley decided to match her tone, stepping up to face Bree.

Kitty, who finally made it to where the girls stood, helped Unique pull them apart. The two were in awe of Marley's bravery, but ignored it for the time being. "Bree, Jake didn't tell anybody anything," she said. "Probably because he's sneaking around with you, isn't he?"

"I was crying in the hallway and he found me and talked to me about what's going on, okay?" Bree shrieked, now starting to draw the attention of the other Cheerios. "H-he's just been there for me, okay?"

Unique looked at Marley and then at her. "What's going on, then? And why is he there for you of all people?"

"None of your business." Bree said as tears began to form. "None of you need to worry about it!"

Marley noticed her eyes watering, and her sense of compassion began to kick in. "Bree, are you okay?"

Bree, beginning to feel the tears form, quickly wiped them away and stormed off. Marley, Kitty, and Unique all looked at each other in confusion as Bree walked away to join the other Cheerios, who simply glared at the three glee girls. After talking to them briefly, Bree returned to the field and resumed Cheerios practice, although she did look somewhat distraught.

What in the world was going on with her, and how did Jake tie into all of this?

Finn and Penny had just finished up a lovely dinner at Breadstix, followed by a movie. Date night was a success! As they drove down the streets of Lima, the two sang in the car together, laughed, and just enjoyed each other's company. Finn hadn't had this much fun with a girl in what felt like forever; he could get used to this! As he pulled up to her apartment, ready to bid her a farewell for the night when he saw her deep in thought, staring at the radio.

"You okay?" Finn asked, placing a hand on her leg gently.

She nodded, continuing to study the radio as Enchanted by Taylor Swift played on the radio. "You know, I noticed something. For your little Taylor Swift lesson this week in glee club, you guys have done a lot of her poppier hits, but nothing really with the country twang she was once known for."

Finn thought about it, and she was right; thus far, all the songs performed by the glee club were from either Red or 1989, which didn't capture the essence of the artist Taylor was when she initially made music. "You're right. The more I think about it, we don't really sing a lot of country music period in glee club!" He put the car in park and began to go deep into thought. "Sam sang Red Solo Cup by Toby Keith once, though, and we had April Rhodes sing Last Name with us a few years ago." He left out the part where Puck sang Need You Now with Rachel, so he didn't have to answer any Rachel-related questions.

"Wait, you guys know April Rhodes?"

"Yeah, she's a McKinley alumni!" Finn exclaimed.

"Oh my god, I love her!" Penny fangirled. "You should try to get her to come back to visit!"

"Well, she's more friendly with Mr. Schue than any of us," Finn said, kissing her cheek. "Plus, she's very busy with her one-woman show."

Penny also laughed, before staring at the radio once again. "You know something else I thought about?"

"Hm?"

"We don't have a song. Like, us as a couple." She said, sitting up and patting Finn's hand. "I had an idea that would solve both of those problems, though."

[Penny]

I was ridin' shotgun with my hair undone

In the front seat of his car

He's got a one-hand feel on the steering wheel

The other on my heart

{Penny looks around and turns the radio down as Finn laughs}

[Penny]

I look around, turn the radio down, he says

[Finn]

"Baby, is something wrong?"

{Penny laughs}

[Penny]

I say, "Nothin', I was just thinkin'

How we don't have a song"

And he says

{Finn begins to play the air guitar as he sings with Penny, laughing the entire time}

[Finn and Penny]

Our song is the slamming screen door

Sneakin' out late, tapping on your window

When we're on the phone and you talk real slow

'Cause it's late and your mama don't know

Our song is the way you laugh

The first date, "Man, I didn't kiss her, and I should have"

And when I got home, 'fore I said amen

Askin' God if he could play it again

{Penny and Finn get out of the car as they approach the apartment}

[Penny]

I was walking up the front porch steps

After everything that day

Had gone all wrong or been trampled on

And lost and thrown away

{Penny and Finn hold hands as they enter the apartment, walking down the hall to her room}

[Penny]

Got to the hallway, well on my way

To my lovin' bed

I almost didn't notice all the roses

And the note that said

{Penny and Finn walk into her room, singing to each other}

[Finn and Penny]

Our song is the slamming screen door

Sneakin' out late, tapping on your window

When we're on the phone and you talk real slow

'Cause it's late and your mama don't know

Our song is the way you laugh

The first date, "Man, I didn't kiss her, and I should have"

And when I got home, 'fore I said amen

Askin' God if he could play it again

{Penny climbs onto Finn's lap and sings gently to him}

[Penny]

I've heard every album, listened to the radio

Waited for somethin' to come along

That was as good as our song

'Cause our song is the slamming screen door

Sneakin' out late, tapping on his window

When we're on the phone and he talks real slow

'Cause it's late and his mama don't know

[Finn and Penny]

Our song is the way he laughs

The first date, "Man, I didn't kiss him, and I should have"

And when I got home, 'fore I said amen

Askin' God if he could play it again

{Penny gets up and closes her door, locking it}

[Finn]

Play it again, oh yeah

Oh, oh, yeah

{Penny sits back down on the bed}

[Penny]

I was ridin' shotgun with my hair undone

In the front seat of his car

I grabbed a pen and an old napkin

And I wrote down our song

As the song came to a close, Penny and Finn gradually moved closer to each other and shared a kiss, which eventually developed into a makeout session. As things advanced, and Penny began to lift Finn's shirt up as they kissed heavily, a buzz from his phone interrupted. Finn broke away, panting, and apologizing quickly before checking his phone. it was a text from Puck that read:

Come come ASAP. SOS

Finn groaned, flopping back onto the bed. "What is it?" Penny asked.

"It's Puck." He said in an annoyed tone, showing her the phone.

"Well, it seems like he needs you," Penny said worriedly. "Go home, I'll see you tomorrow, okay?"

Finn hesitated, considering staying and continuing to make out with Penny, before groaning again. "Fine, fine." Puck wouldn't text if it wasn't an emergency. He got up, put his shoes on, and grabbed his phone and keys before leaning down and kissing Penny quickly. "See you tomorrow," he said gently before leaving and heading home, hoping everything was okay with Puck.

Blaine walked into the Lima Mall's jewelry store with tunnel vision. He had been here before, where he bought Kurt's engagement ring, however he was here to see the store's manager, Jan. Jan looked up from the counter to see him walk in and smiled brightly. "Well, well, well. Blaine Anderson! What can I do you for?" She looked around before whispering, "He didn't say no, did he?"

"No, I haven't even asked him yet," Blaine replied with a chuckle. "Uh, he's in New York right now and I honestly haven't seen him since around the time we all went to Breadstix."

Jan nodded, understanding. "Well, how can I help you, then?"

He leaned against the counter gently. "How did you know it was the right time to propose to Liz?" Blaine met Jan a few weeks back when he was shopping for an engagement ring for Kurt. After talking and discovering they were both gay, she vowed to take him under her wing and help guide him through this process. Later that evening, she took him and Kurt to Breadstix with her girlfriend, Liz, where she proposed. Seeing them together made Blaine even more excited at the thought of engagement with Kurt, and as someone with little to no gay role models, she was the perfect person to go to with help.

"You mean aside from same-sex marriage becoming legalized?" Jan chuckled. "I just knew. I carried that ring around with me for quite a while, and in that moment, my heart was telling me; 'do it.' It was a passionate decision."

"So, you didn't plan it at all?" Blaine asked.

"Oh, I had a plan. My proposal was going to be quite different, but seeing two young people like you and Kurt inspired me to just go for it and throw the plan out of the window." She smiled, taking his hand. "There is no 'right time' to propose, Blaine. There's not a right way, or a wrong way, to do it. Planned or not planned, every proposal comes from a place of love, and selflessness, and compassion, and when you pop the question, it will feel 'right' in your heart."

He squeezed Jan's hand. "I've got to be honest, I'm a little nervous. I'm going to see him in a week or so, and I just don't want to mess it up. I want it to be perfect."

"You guys love each other, right?" Jan asked, as Blaine nodded in answer. "Then don't worry about it. Love is like a puzzle; everything will fall right into place if it's meant to be."

"Sounds like what his dad said," Blaine responded with nervous laughter.

"Great minds think alike!" Jan winked as she let go of his hand. "Anything else I can do you for?"

He hesitated before asking, but he blurted out, "In the event he says yes, would you and Liz like to attend our wedding?"

Jan was shocked, but as her eyes began to swell up, she quickly nodded her head. "I'd love to, sweetheart," she managed, as the two shared a hug.

Finn rushed into his apartment, where he found Puck sitting at his desk, carving the Star of David into it with a knife. Finn slammed the door with urgency as Puck jumped up, dropping the knife on the floor.

"What, are we slamming doors now?" Puck asked. "Who raised you?"

"Dude, you totally just cock-blocked me and Penny with that text. And why are you carving Jewish stuff into my desk?"

Puck picked the knife up, putting it back down on the desk. "Dude, shake it off. Stop being so racist, while you're at it!"

"Being Jewish isn't a race, Puck, it's a religion."

"Whatever." He stood up, tossing Finn his phone. "Look at my recent phone calls."

Finn unlocked the phone and began to scroll through his call log. "Why were you FaceTiming Artie? Is this what was so urgent?"

"I asked him for an opinion on rims for my car. You know, since he's used to working with wheels?" Puck took his phone back and scrolled a little further up, pointing at a name. "No, this is the urgent thing."

Finn read the name; Shelby Corcoran. Rachel's mother and the adoptive mother of Beth, the baby Puck had with Quinn. "What's this about?"

"I'm going to New York, dude. I want to see Beth."

Finn smiled. In a weird way, he was proud of his best friend; back in sophomore year he was led to believe that baby was his for a while, but eventually the truth came out that Puck got Quinn pregnant instead. Eventually Quinn gave birth after their Regionals performance, but they gave the baby to Shelby, who since raised Beth. He was proud to see his friend take the initiative to try and take on a more active role in his child's life, even if that child was thousands of miles away. He tried this before junior year, but then he got into a sexual relationship with Shelby... nobody liked talking about it, since it was pretty weird, but nevertheless, it was great to see how Puck had matured over the years.

"That's awesome, man, but that couldn't have been a text?" Finn asked with a small laugh afterward.

Puck shook his head. "There's more."

He pointed to another name in his call log, which as he read it, shocked Finn.

Quinn Fabray.

"Is she going to see Beth with you?" Finn asked.

Puck shrugged. "Not sure, but I'm 100% visiting her at Yale."

"Why?" Quinn and Puck had barely spoken since graduation; they hung out a little bit over Thanksgiving break and at Mr. Schue and Miss. Pillsbury's almost-wedding, but those were both in group settings. Why was Puck going to hang out with her one-on-one all of a sudden?

"I think I still love Quinn, dude." Puck admitted, leaving Finn's jaw to drop.

The next day, in the auditorium, the New Directions all walked onto stage, as Finn and Mr. Schue sat in the audience, ready to see the final song of the Taylor Swift week. As they got into their places, Jake approached Marley, but was swiftly ignored.

"Marley, please-" Jake began to try and talk to her.

"Places, everybody!" Mr. Schue spoke into the god-mic, leaving Jake to quickly run to his spot behind the curtain. "And... from the top!"
