Staring at the hospital phone Pacey groaned. Joey had left a half hour before saying she needed to speak with Bessie, but he knew she was giving him space to talk to Dawson.

Pulling in a breath he dialed the familiar number. There were a few rings when his friend picked up. "Leery residence."

"D…Dawson?"

"Pacey?" Dawson squeaked on the other end his eyes wide. "I didn't know you had awakened from your coma."

"Yeah…umm Dawson would you be able to come down here?"

"Sure. Give me twenty minutes. I'm sure dad can drop me off."

"Thank you."

"Hey." Dawson smiled walking in the room happy to see his friend awake. "How are you?"

"I'm still not clear on the details of what happened but I feel better than I have been."

"That's good to hear." Stepping in front of the bed Dawson shrugged, leaning against the end. "So, what's up?"

"I just…" Pacey gnawed the inside of his lip rubbing tiredly at his neck. "Are you really okay with Joey and me or do you think I still want her for sex?"

"What?" Dawson questioned stepping around the bed. "Of course, I am. I've seen the way you look at her and the way you are together. Its amazing."

Pacey processed the information, nodding. "And that doesn't bother you?"

"At first yes…" The blonde admitted sitting on the end of Pacey's hospital bed. "I thought I may have had feelings for Joey, but I realized I was wrong."

"What changed your mind?" Pacey eyes his friend, nervous about what he may say.

"Honestly?" Dawson chuckled, turning more toward his friend on the bed. "I feel like Joey's like my sister…if I had a sister. And I guess when I heard about you two, I went into protective brother mode. It was wrong and I'm sorry."

"Thank you." Pacey mumbled genuinely shocked by his words. "But what exactly changed your mind on that?"

"Just seeing you two. I've known you both since we were kids, I've seen your multitude of arguments and banter. But having observed you in here and out of here, you have this different flow and somehow are always touching."

"Joey's protective side." Pacey grinned playing with the sheet that lay across his lap. "I think she thinks the closer she gets to me the more she can chase away the bad…the cancer."

"Or she loves you and just wants to be near you. To hold you close in case the worst happens." Dawson offered smiling at the bright blush that took to Pacey's cheeks.

"I've been thinking the same."

"You're gonna pull through this Pacey. I feel it."

"Thanks man." Looking at his best friend the comrade restored between them Pacey felt another puzzle piece click into place, his life finally turning for the better.
