IAB Official Meeting FLASHBACK
For the Record
Alexandra Eames Major Case Squad with the 36th precinct
"Can you run me through the events from the protest and where things took a turn?"
"Goren and I were assigned a case to look into a potential attack during the parade. The threat was viable and imminent. Since then, the case has been buried or erased and conveniently missing from record. During our canvas and investigation, said attack happened, a bomb went off killing a possible informant and injuring several at the protest including some personnel. This has all been redacted sir but I don't have anything to hide. At that point, everyone was on high alert but as you can imagine and shook."
"Afraid?"
"Yes. A bomb just went off and we weren't sure if that was the only threat, at the time. The protesters panicked, running and pushing trying to flee."
She winced at remembering the horrific details.
"There were people being trampled. We tried to help but a lot of our personnel were directed to bomb injuries. So we were outmanned. Then an officer yelled gun and we fired."
"Did you see the gun? And for the record you fired into the crowd of protesters correct?"
"I saw a glint of shine but not the clearest viewpoint no. Yes I fired because I believed it to be a weapon and secondary threat."
"So you didn't see the gun but still fired."
"Yes. I uh wanted to protect the protesters and personnel from more injuries and potential death-"
"We got what we needed."
"I am being railroaded, here. I was not the only cop to fire. Although I take all responsibility for my actions, yet I refuse to take responsibility for the other officers and 19 remaining shots. I took one."
"And we don't know who made the killing shot."
"So I'm being scapegoated for this tragedy because I have a conscience."
"You fired against an unarmed kid. You left the scene after the shooting that resulted in the death of said young boy. That makes you look guilty."
"I left the scene due to a concern of danger against myself and my partner. But yes I did leave and yet I came straight to 1PP and surrendered my weapon. I fully intended to cooperate. And his name was Jordan Tavyvon Brown. I made a difficult split second decision to protect but yes it was a tragedy and Jordan was killed. I will forever be haunted by this shoot despite all my other shoots being good shoots. I made a mistake. One I cannot take back and I am willing to accept punishment for my involvement. But.. I want the other officers including Officer Dunne to face the same if not worse charges. Officer Dunne was out of line. His behavior led to a hostile environment which was the precursor to this shoot. Also, Goren had nothing to do with it. He tried to stop the shoot."
"Goren attacked Officer Dunne its on file."
"You've gotta be kidding me?"
"No ma'am, we are not."
"Okay, yes they got into an altercation because Officer Dunne was attacking protesters."
"No one filed a report."
"Or the reports never got processed. I'll be officially filing after this proceeding."
"It will look like retaliation for his complaint. Are you okay with making an accusation against your own?"
"There has been multiple examples of corruption in that department and up the line. It has yet to be rooted out."
"You are facing an uphill battle and will be hated more that us and that's only if your statements are true. There has been no corroboration to your accounts."
"Goren will corroborate me."
"He's your partner. It won't be enough."
"If this investigation has to happen it will be done right. They will also have to face their responsibilities. A kid is gone. Don't they feel any remorse?"
Eames knew she would face the brunt of the events because her face made media news coverage. She was now the face to the shooting, the bitch responsible. What she should have expected but disregarded was that the blue line will protect his own unless you were an agitator. Eames was an agitator. She and her partner were not the types to sit back while corrupt parties got away with murder.
If a woman scorn was dangerous, then a furious one has to be outright threat. Eames made a mental note to reach back with her union rep and to start figuring out what they can prove to exert justice and close this case for good.
Goren walked through the door of the motel room rather chipper. Eames had finished off a plate of pasta for dinner and left it on the floor near the door to be trashed later.
"Our guts are right on," Goren spoke with a big smile plastered across his face.
"So I take it the date paid off."
"Denise was able to not only confirm that the Chief of D's has a problematic son named Pat but even further, she linked him to his work computer."
"What did she find?"
"She spoke to his secretary and we found the leak of the information. He's responsible."
"That bastard."
"My thoughts exactly."
"We need to inform the captain. We need to build a case. Any chance we get him in an interrogation room?"
"We'd need to convince the Captain. But, that is where we do our best work."
"I would love to face him head on for what he put us through."
"I'll call the Captain see what options we got. For now, here's everything we found."
Eames was exhausted. She had been running herself into the ground with the doxxing and the case but she couldn't stop. Not only did two innocent people die, one she may have been directly responsible for, but her reputation and identity were on the line. It was one thing to make it difficult for them to run the case. It was whole other thing to attack her personally and that she couldn't let go.
"I've been thinking there were 20 shots and I only account for one of those. How likely is it that I get charges that stick for this? I feel like I should talk to the coroner see if they were able to lock down cause of death. Could they even figure out which shot killed him. It's driving me crazy, Bobby."
"We can check with them. I don't know how likely they would be able to pinpoint cause of death. He was a mess by the time they got him. But, hey you shouldn't drive yourself crazy about this. When is the last time you got some rest?"
"Before this case. Geez I'm due."
"Get some rest Eames. We need to be at our best if we intend to go after the chief of D's."
