The City of Townsville!
She could smell it; spring was finally here to stay. Despite everyone's protest about the allergies and the weird weather, she loved this time of year. The flowers would start to wake after their long rest, and bring some color to the city. Viewing it from the sky she could already spot the trees blooming, the flowers budding, and the birds that were just as vibrant as the fauna zipping amongst the skyline. She couldn't help the smile that came across her face, albeit small, she would give her very life to protect this still image of the place she grew up. Townsville was her home, and nothing would ever change that, or threaten its existence any more than the previous villains in her life. Trying to recount them all though she'd need at least a week to get them all written down and categorized chronologically, or alphabetically.
The sun was setting for now and the city would quiet down in its twilight hours, but it was strange seeing as it was also its most lively. Traffic was at an all time high, friends gathering together after school, co-workers hitting the restaurants after a grueling day at work, and parents finally getting some time for each other rather than spending it all on the kids they probably had at home. Indeed, while Townsville may not be the most stupendous place to live, or the most glamorous, it was certainly one of the happiest places to live. Slowly she would start to drift off towards home, and enjoy the scenery as she did so.
Blossom couldn't stop herself from thinking about the future though, it was no secret that she and her sisters aged normally, and as they grew older so did their powers. Right now, though they were in their prime, practically nothing could stop the Powerpuff girls, now a trademarked name, it earned her father some income. They didn't mind, it put food in the fridge and a roof over their heads, as well as a nice way to have their dear dad retire with some good money set aside. Professor Utonium worked hard to bring her and her sisters up, and teach them morals and values that non-supers have that the three girls wouldn't ever think of harboring.
Buttercup of course was one to live in the now, rather than worry about what's ahead. She's always been that way, and while she's mellowed out a lot over the years, Buttercup still has her moments sometimes. When things get frustrating her first instinct is to hit it as hard as she possibly can, and compared to her and Bubbles, it's incredibly hard. Still, she was young, they all were, and they had time to think about the rest of their life despite it feeling as if it was fleeting. She did take a slight interest in mechanical work, dirty, keeps her physically and mentally sharp, it suits her out of everything else she thought about. Which wasn't a very long or well managed list.
Bubbles, dear sweet Bubbles, she's also changed a lot since she was a child. Taking an interest in the wellbeing of animals, it was a given seeing as she was the only one that could communicate properly with them. Always volunteering to sentry the outskirts of the city, keeping the wildlife where it is and stopping some very questionable zoning projects. She was in fact working on some type of solution for it; if they were going to clear any type of forestry, new trees had to be planted and maintained in another section. While the bill was being processed it made sense to everyone who viewed it, the wildlife still had the wild despite the city expanding. Of course, this was all her being hyper focused and passionate about animals, Bubbles wasn't free of her blonde moments even if they happened less and less.
Then there was the 'commander and leader', even if that's not the case anymore, rarely were all three of them needed together. Even if there was a threat big enough for all three of them, there was an unspoken synergy between them that was unrivaled. If the sisters didn't have superpowers, they'd be an amazing sports trio. Blossom smiled at the thought of them on a team of some sort, living a normal life, it was uncanny to think about. Either way they were still on a team despite them being miles away from each other, not being able to imagine them being in another town, let alone a county or state. But that begged the question on what Blossom wanted to do in the future? What was her calling, or anything that relatively interested her?
Blossom would spread her arms as she surfed through the sky, turning around and putting her hand through a cloud. Feeling the sudden shift from warm to cold, she smirked at the sky, she loved everything about this place, including the weather it seemed. Blossom would dive back down to the city, looking over everything, if she could do this the rest of her life she wouldn't mind. Though, she's not immortal, and even if she was, this wasn't a good occupation seeing as she couldn't accept payment from anyone for doing what needs to be done. She had time, sure, but that doesn't mean this wasn't going to plague her for the rest of her life until she makes a decision. Blossom let out a sigh, done with the scenery and wanting to study for school.
Getting basic courses out of the way and accruing credits seemed the best way to get to where she wanted quickly, only a few more semesters left and she'd be done. As she thought about it her family home came into view, with a few new expansions and workarounds. Dad moved most of his science equipment to the garage, Buttercup made the previous laboratory her home, and it was very homey for her. Clothes strewn about, magazines, video games, it was Buttercups own private den, and it stayed that way with the childish 'keep out' sign on it. Which was in full view when Blossom came in through the front door.
Her sisters are still on patrol it seems, and her dad was nowhere to be seen. Not wanting to bother him on whatever machination he was preparing, Blossom quietly closed the door and levitated through the house. Most of the inside stayed the same, maybe renewing the furniture here and there but, nothing changed, and Blossom liked that. Running her fingers over the fabric of the couch that was filled to the brim with memories, she smiled again, life was good, life was perfect in fact. If she didn't think about the after of superhero work, and life stood still, she'd be happy forever. Blossom eventually left that memory bank and floated up the stairs towards the other ones, passing by their childhood bedroom which was now Bubbles' room.
Blossom went in and saw all of the fluffy animals on the bed, and Bubble's drafting table off in the corner with drawings and doodles pinned up around it. She has such talent, and it's a wonder that she hasn't done some sort of art gallery reveal, or something along those lines. The room smelled like cotton candy, hitting Blossom like a truck but she didn't mind, of course like Buttercup, Bubbles's room was all about Bubbles. She would make the girls bed for her before going down the hall, towards her own private den. What used to be her dad's room, before he practically moved everything he had into the garage, Blossom opened the door to her room and saw perfection.
Inside was everything Blossom got from birthdays or bought with her own money working odd jobs here and there. Her bed was made nice and neat with two pillows, and one stuffed animal Bubbles gave her when they were ten, not wanting Blossom to be alone in her room. The unicorn looked back at her expectantly. "Well, glad to see your day was relaxing" Blossom talked to the stuffie, expecting conversation, but alas, the unicorn remained silent. Blossom went over to her bed and took off her shoes, trading the classic Mary Janes for some combat boots recommended by Buttercup; they were indeed comfortable for when she had to walk. After neatly tucking them halfway beneath her bed she floated over to her laptop.
Not much was in Blossom's room save the furniture necessities, a closet, a bed, nightstand, and this nice laptop she got for herself. Immediately going to her college board and working on arithmetic, grabbing her notebook and doing the work herself instead of looking up the answers online. All the while Blossom was on autopilot, the very thing she didn't want to think about was the only thing that plagued her. The future and its uncertainty, something she didn't like and she couldn't control. With all this power she has and it's at its peak, time was one thing she couldn't get a hold of, physically or otherwise.
Realizing she made a mistake she scribbled it out with her pen and started over, sighing in the process. Putting some relaxing music on to help concentrate, she tried to block out her own brain and focus on the problems at hand. However, she couldn't, and had to take her time with this relatively easy topic. Hearing footsteps coming towards her room she put her pen down, the door opened a crack, but then it swung open as her dad came into full view. "Darn! Thought I would've caught you this time!"
"Can't beat super hearing dad" Blossom countered, earning a slight chuckle between the two. "Good day today?
"Peaceful good, yes, just thought I'd get home early and get some work done for the week"
"My hardworking brainiac of a daughter" Blossom rolled her eyes at the comment, the professor couldn't help but laugh again. "Have any idea when your sisters are going to be home?"
"Nope, Buttercup was going to pick something up to eat though" Dad nodded, glancing around the room before settling his eyes back on his daughter "good, I'll be working late again."
"We figured as much, get back to work dad we'll tell you when it's here" with a nod dad retreated back downstairs. Blossom leaned back into her seat, looking at her problems on the computer, thinking about her problems in her head. Problems would be as persistent as ever no matter how old you get; she would decide now's a good time as any for a brain break. Blossom opened her bedroom window and floated out, sitting on the roof and enjoying the sunset.
Bubbles told her once, and it was incredibly prophetic, one problem at a time, a simple phrase but it seemed to stick with her for a long time. They were practically invincible, the only thing that could hurt them was each other, but they'd never do that anyway. As she ran a hand through her silky hair, her signature bow ran along with it. Blossom would space out as she just couldn't stop thinking about uncertainty, not noticing her sisters racing towards home. They would wave to her as they entered, figuring she just needed a minute to herself. Entering the house with food and hearth, warming the home, Blossom skipped in her thoughts as she got back in the house, eager to spend time with her family.
Empty dishes filled with dishwasher as everyone cleaned up, the movie still playing in the background as the family discussed other things amongst themselves. "And that's why I think that fishing should be outlawed"
"Good luck with that, and hunting, Bubbles" Blossom countered. Bubbles was washing the dishes before Blossom would put them in the dishwasher "it's been a hobby, a bonding experience, a way of life for so long. I don't think people are willingly going to endorse this movement" Bubbles pouted. Pulling her lip to one side and giving a huff "I guess so, it just seems so… unnecessary"
"It might seem that way because we can do what others can't, people need meat and protein to work and do what's necessary" Blossom countered once more, Bubbles rolled her eyes "just… side with me for once, please?" Bubbles whined. Blossom couldn't help but laugh as she gave her sister a hug. "I'm sorry Bubbles, but we've got to think about what the people want too, y'know?"
"I know," Bubbles said, slightly sad. Blossom was envious about how in touch Bubbles was with her emotions. Wearing one's heart on one's sleeve was probably a blessing and a curse; Blossom still couldn't quite believe it though. Either way they hashed it out, continued with the dishes and dinner was officially over and done with. The two went back to the couch and sat with the rest of the family. Dad and Buttercup talking about this, that and the other, Bubbles immediately enamored with the movie. Blossom looked over at her family and felt her heart swell with happiness, this night will be one to remember. Even if it wasn't much, it was probably the only time everyone felt some semblance of normalcy, though, that's kind of out the window now.
Blossom overhears the chatter every so often, switching from the movie to the conversation. Eventually it ran its course and she decided to retire for the evening, not like they needed as much as everyone else; a few hours and they can go for a couple days if not more. Blossom likes schedules though, to no one's surprise, eleven being the cutoff time, time to unwind for the day and think about what to do tomorrow. In reality this was the only time Blossom got to herself, watching videos online and just doing something mindless. Playing a game for a little bit, everything on mute of course. Even with this little ritual she did every so often she still couldn't quite shake the problems of tomorrow.
But that would have to wait until tomorrow, as for now, she has some episodes to catch up on.
