The Last Mistake of the Uchiha

(alternate Version)

Tobirama Senju was sitting at his desk when he heard the screeching howlsraised voice of his brother. Hastily he capped the ink pot and slid various documents into folders then into drawers in the hope that Hashirama wouldn't end up destroying his work.

The thudding footsteps of an elephanthis brother grew closer.

Hashirama burst through the door, eyes gleaming with joy and waving a letter. "Tobi! TobiTobiTobi! Guess what?!"

"The Uchiha want peace?"

The tree brainClan Head of the Senju gasped dramatically and began to bounce around the room. "You guessed!" He spun around and faced Tobirama. "How did you know?"

Tobirama raised a white eyebrow "That was the only reason I could think of why you are behaving in such an unseemly manner as well as coming into my room bellowing like a wounded hippopotamus."

Hashirama pouted for a moment then began bouncing again. "Yes! They have asked for a peace treaty but there is one particular condition. Hashirama stopped bouncing and held out the letter. "They want you to marry Madara."

Both of Tobirama's eyebrows rose almost to his hairline. "They want me? Or do they want The White Demon?"

"I was wondering the same thing." The steel under silk voice of Mito, Hashirama's wife, entered the room half a second before she did. "They specifically use that term in the document."

"And the Uchiha are demon hunters."

"Oh, I think the two of you are seeing things that aren't there."

Mito and Tobirama's eyes met.

No, we aren't.

The Mastersmith bowed to Tobirama. "It will be done as quickly as possible. Even if I have to make my journeymen and apprentices work all night."

Tobirama smiled. "The negotiations will take time. The Elders have…demands."

The Mastersmith snorted "Understatement, Tobirama-sama. It will be ready before your wedding."

"Thank you."

Tobirama knelt before the altar of Susanoo-no-Mikoto, the Patron God of the Senju, after placing his offerings.

He wasn't a frequent worshipper at the shrine, but he was earnest when he went. He also figured that Susanoo would understand since Hashirama was a very frequent visitor. Tobirama figured that Susanoo would appreciate understand his infrequency after listening to Hashirama's rambling babble.

He gathered his thoughts for a moment then spoke "Susanoo-sama, please hear my words, my plea. I have agreed to marry Uchiha Madara so that there will be peace between the Senju and the Uchiha. But the Uchiha, worshippers of your sister Amaterasu-sama, are demon hunters. I am sometimes called 'The White Demon.' It is my belief that the Uchiha honestly think that I come from demonic origins and plan to kill me. I have sent one of my summonses to investigate this possibility, but I humbly ask that You approach Your Lady Sister and let her inform her worshippers that I'm a mere human."

Tobirama stood then bowed deeply and respectfully before the altar.

Tobirama sat at his desk working on plans for the village of Hashirama's dreams when the summons he sent to spy on the Uchiha appeared. She was the most successful spy out of all of his feline summons because she looked like what she was…a tabby cat.

He reached out and gently scratched behind her ears. Her rumbling purrs filled the room. "Hello, Aiko."

She twisted her neck for more scratches than spoke "You shouldn't marry the fire man. The fire man and the sparky boy are planning to kill you."

Tobirama's lips twitched at Aiko's descriptions of Madara and Izuna but there was no amusement in his voice when he spoke again "Don't worry, I don't plan on dying at their hands."

"Plans get broken." Replied the little cat.

"Ah, but I have been preparing for this possibility." He stroked his hand across her back, and she arched into it. "I owe you a very nice fresh fish."

The tabby cat's eyes glowed green "I know which one I want."

Madara and Izuna Uchiha stood shoulder to shoulder inside the Shrine. Through the open doors, they could see the Senju brothers approach the Shrine.

When Tobirama got to the threshold he stopped.

Izuna hissed with undisguised glee "The Demon cannot enter!"

Madara stayed silent and watched as Tobirama bowed deeply then stepped foot inside the shrine. "You underestimated The Demon, Izuna." He muttered.

"Shit…"

A beaming Hashirama led his brother dressed in a white wedding kimono that clearly cost a small fortune.

Nothing but the best for the Senju Demon apparently.

When they got to the altar, Hashirama gently placed Tobirama's hand in Madara's then stepped back.

As soon as Hashirama was far enough away, Madara yanked a startled Tobirama to his knees.

Izuna pulled a sword that he had hidden and stabbed Tobirama through the back.

Or, at least, he tried to stab Tobirama in the back.

The tip of the sword broke off. Much to the astonishment of the Uchiha brothers.

Despite the body entangling wedding kimono, Tobirama managed to kick away from Madara and roll to his feet.

Hashirama was howling with rage. Touka was shrieking hers. Mito was silent but her eyes blazed with fury.

The rest of the Senju were not as loud as their Clan Leader and the Second Heir, but their anger filled the darkening shrine.

"SILENCE!"

That bellow came from the Daimyo. The enraged noble strode towards the altar. "Do you need a med-nin, Tobirama-sama?"

Tobirama bowed respectfully "No, my lord." He shrugged off the now soiled white kimono to reveal that he was wearing a chainmail shirt.

"Wise man." Murmured the Daimyo. He turned to the leader of his troops. "Two red."

"Sir!" barked the man. He, in turn, gave a hand signal and a young soldier ran to the doorway to the shrine and fired off two red fireworks into the air.

"My lord," began Madara.

"Did I give you permission to speak?" The Daimyo turned to Hashirama. "Calm yourself Senju-sama, your brother is alive and unhurt." He watched as Mito gently placed her hands on the forearms of both her husband and sister-of-choice, calming them down.

The Daimyo turned and looked at the pale-faced Uchiha. "You have betrayed your oath. Not just to the Senju but to me as well."

"My lord…" Madara tried again.

"There must be repercussions over this." The Daimyo looked at Madara "Explain to me your betrayal."

"My lord, you know that one of the Mandates of the Uchiha is to hunt and kill demons." Madara gestured to Tobirama. "He is a demon. Even his own kin call him so."

"You fool," breathed the Daimyo. "I gave him that name several years ago. When my second son was kidnapped, Tobirama was the one to rescue him. When he returned my son to me, he seemingly came out of nowhere in the middle of a snowstorm covered in snow, ice, and blood. The name seemed appropriate at the time. Now, I wish I had thought of something else."

Izuna tried to speak "My lord…"

The Daimyo raised his hand. "I don't wish to hear your excuses. And certainly not in this cursed building."

Madara took immediate offence. "This is the Shrine of Amaterasu! How dare…"

The Daimyo spoke over Madara's words "And where is the Goddess in this so-called shrine of yours."

The Uchiha looked around and almost in unison gasped in horror. The fires and candles that were kept perpetually lit in Honor of the Goddess were dark and cold. The representations of the Goddess were also gone. As if they had never been there in the first place.

"Amaterasu has turned her back to the Uchiha." Said the Daimyo "As I must also turn my back to the Uchiha."

"Are we banished from the Land of Fire?" asked Madara.

The smile the Daimyo bestowed upon the Leader of the Uchiha was cold. "No. I cannot afford for you to go to another Land and offer your services." He looked at Madara with equally cold eyes. "I require you to execute your entire clan." His eyes grew darker when he saw Izuna move his hands behind his back. "Don't bother signaling to your people, Izuna-kun. Those rockets were to signal to my army that anyone escaping over your walls are to be killed immediately." He looked at Madara. "You will start with your brother. Use the sword that he tried to kill Tobirama-sama with. Do it. Now."

Numbly, Madara picked up the sword that had fallen to the floor. Madara raised it in preparation to cut off Izuna's head…

"No. He doesn't deserve the honor of beheading. Disembowelment. Be sure that he can see his guts on the floor while he watches you kill the rest of your Clan."

Without showing any emotion or expression, Madara eviscerated his brother then cut the throats of the Uchiha that had gathered in the shrine for the wedding. After all of the Uchiha inside the shrine were dead, the Daimyo forced Madara out into the streets and watched as Madara killed babes in swaddling clothes, pregnant women, children, mothers and fathers, and elders. The Daimyo's soldiers searched thoroughly through the compound until even small children that had been desperately hidden by their parents had been found.

When Madara killed the last of his people, he turned to the Daimyo. It was obvious to all watching that Madara was broken in both mind and emotion. He couldn't even bring himself to voice a protest when he saw Tobirama give a tabby cat his largest and favorite koi, still feebly flapping as the cat began to eat it.

"Disembowel yourself." Came the order from the Daimyo.

Madara didn't bother to kneel. He simply shoved the sword into his belly and slid it from side to side. Pulling out the now dull and worn blade, he also pulled out his own intestines. He looked at the bloody rope lying on the ground, then collapsed onto his side.

The Daimyo watched until the eyes of the last Uchiha grew dark and dim.

Finally, he spoke "This clan never existed. Their name will be expunged from all history. Let no man, woman or child set foot on this cursed land until two hundred years have gone by. Let Nature claim their bones."

At that, the Daimyo quietly gathered up everyone still living who had come to witness a wedding but ended up witnessing the Death of a Clan.

The gates of the compound were closed behind them.

There was only silence left behind.
