Let's Never Meet Again

By SMYGO4EVA

The forest was restless, the winds howling.

The priestess Kikyo stared down at the woman before her, the one named Tsubaki.

Her eyes were cold, darkening with intent, and a smile grew on her porcelain features.

"Oh, it is fate, isn't it, that we would be face to face once again." Tsubaki proclaimed, an arrogance in her voice that made Kikyo narrow her eyes.

"Perhaps it is fate, Tsubaki, as our paths were to cross, but be warned, this may be one of the last times we meet." Kikyo replied, undeterred.

Tsubaki wasn't one to falter, as she walked closer, stopping so that a small space was between them. She reached out a hand, and touched Kikyo's cheek with her fingertip.

"You were always one to assume, to judge, and to never let your guard down." Tsubaki spoke, her voice lilting and cloying, looking for a reaction.

Kikyo was not one to give her that satisfaction, even as she stiffened under the dark priestess's touch.

"It must be a dreary existence, to be alive in such a way." Tsubaki remarked, her lips twitching up.

Kikyo narrowed her eyes; she did not ask to be brought back, into this world, nor as one to walk the earth for all time.

"How utterly loathsome, to say such things, Tsubaki." She looked up and smiled, looking right in the other woman's eyes. "When you're living on borrowed, no, stolen time yourself."

Tsubaki bristled, but she only tilted her head, her smirk growing, leaning in closer. "Perhaps, but it's like you said, you and I are more alike when you would ever care to admit."

Kikyo nodded, still smiling, holding Tsubaki's gaze. "You could say that, but know this, you will be the first to fall."

Before Tsubaki could utter a rebuttal, Kikyo moved in, and pressed her lips on hers, a hand on her shoulder, holding her very still.
