Chapter 13. The Cure
Although what had already happened was confusing enough, but the heroes, who succeeded in eliminating biological bombs that could permanently contaminate water supplies not only in Toronto but also in the surrounding area, were successfully returned to Peacekeeper Base. But that wasn't enough.
Some of the viruses that had already spread on the ground were spreading and infecting at an alarming rate, and the U.S.-Canada Allied Forces are trying to stop the viruses spread by using various disinfectants and even incendiary bombs, but it was difficult to completely eradicate the virus, and if those disinfectants flowed into the natural ecosystem, it was obvious how much more the already contaminated ecosystem could be damaged.
Besides, the biggest issue that the Overwatch team was facing now, that the availability of future activities was slowly beginning to become unclear, despite such issues. It was because some of the agents were infected by the Omnic virus.
Mercy was busily moving in front of single-size quarantine rooms with one sides of the wall was made of glass. The infected agents were either lamenting the terrible reality in their rooms or suffering from the symptoms of the virus. However, they didn't stop explaining their condition in as much detail as possible and providing samples, such as blood, if necessary, because they thought they needed to cooperate with the medical staff as much as possible to get a cure.
Kim was just looking at the scene. Was that just how he was to look like in 100 years ago, when he had to be quarantined in Nha Trang's Military Hospital? Well, at least this quarantine rooms, which these fellas were using now, is narrower than where he had been 100 years ago, but still seemed more comfortable and newer. But no matter how good the place is that these fellas are in now, the fact that the pain they are going through now, which would be no different from what he had been through in the past, bothers him. Kim still felt like his head was pounding again even he thoughts about that again.
And not only Lùcio, but also the problem that other healers were concerned about, has become a reality, too.
The first infected 5 members, that Sojourn, Lùcio, Zarya, Junker Queen, and Venture, but also the other team members are also confirmed that they got infected, too. Genji and Bastion were not infected by the characteristic of their mechanical bodies, but it seems like the virus have spread by saliva and sweat on each other when they retreated by the bus together.
Among the old members, the Soldier:76, Reinhardt, and Torbjorn, while Baptiste, Cassidy, and Pharah, among the Overwatch members, and lastly, Hanzo and Kiriko, among the non-Overwatch team members, were confirmed that they got also infected, and got sickened.
Kim thought about why he couldn't find the infection could happen through saliva and sweat in 100 years ago, but he remembered that Brian and Jordan were the only members of Sparrow 2 who died of a direct virus infection at that time.
Even if it was short time, but the fact that half of the Overwatch members, who had been together with Kim, were got sick by the virus was despair enough to him, but the fact that many frontline soldiers who were in charge of fighting the infected and the numerous reconnaissance troops who entered the area around Toronto, just like themselves, also got infected, too, made the situation even worse.
The medical research team that remained at the base, somehow succeeded in creating simple screening kits based on the virus that secured from the front, and as a result, it was possible to classify who was infected and who was fine among those who returned from the contaminant area, thereby preventing possible accidents that could happen in advance. However, this fact alone could not be satisfied, even though there is no exact treatment yet.
Unlike two days ago, Peacekeeper Base was full of temporary quarantine ward that lined up everywhere. Although it was not yet full, but given the current status of infected patients, it was a matter of time to go beyond patient capacity, soon.
was helping Mercy to carry supplies to the quarantine ward. She stopped in front of Kiriko's room, one of her close friends. Her face was already glowing red by a high fever, and her arms and legs were flabby out like a lifeless rag doll.
"Kiriko?"
At 's call, Kiriko opened her eyes, struggled to get up a little bit, but approached to the window.
"Song. How are you? And, any good news yet?"
"Not yet... But Dr. Angela and Winston are trying to find a solution at all costs. Hang in there. A cure will definitely out soon."
Kiriko was hardly breath, but smiled lightly as if to reassure . However, Song Hana only felt pain, as if her heart was about to be broken.
Second Commander Ana also couldn't leave in front of the quarantine ward where her daughter, Fareeha, was in. Pharah also tried to reassure her mother Ana, but as the virus gradually developed, it was difficult for her to even open her eyes and wake up properly. However, she knew that it will be doomed if she fell asleep, so she was trying to keep her mind together. Ana wanted to run into the hospital room right away to treat her precious and only one daughter dearly, and comfort her, and treat her if possible, but she well knows that Nano Boost weren't particularly effective against the omnic virus, so, the fact continued to drag her into the depths of despair.
Genji looked through the window at his brother Hanzo. Hanzo tried to be calm in spite of his usual, strong mental strength, but Genji could see that his brother was in a bad condition for sure. They are real brothers who have been grown together for more than 30 years, and they could immediately see how each's condition be like just by looking at each other.
Brigitte, too, could not easily find stability, staying in front of Reinhardt and Torbjorn's room. She was able to put down her armor and gear because she had been out of Toronto, and there was no further threat, but she was just staring anxiously at them without changing her clothes properly. Reinhardt and Torbjorn also kept telling Brigitte to go and take some rest, but she still couldn't leave the front easily.
Kim was looking anxiously at a patient who was quarantined in ward, and eventually got mutated and gone rampant, with other medical staffs. He was one of the mechanics of the aircraft, whom he got along with, who was expressing interest in his helicopter. A group of medics and soldiers, all dressed in gas masks and protective gears, forced him, and strapped to a mobile bed and tightly coiled with a protective shield. Now that fella will be moved into a temporary lab, and possibly used as one of the experiments to study for the virus treatments. Poor guy.
He eventually turned his head away, because he couldn't stand it anymore.
"Kim!"
Looking back at the sound of calling him, Mei was rushing at him, shaking a sheet of papers.
"Doctor Mei, do you have any good news?"
"Maybe! Check this out!"
The temporary laboratory showed traces of Dr. Mei's experiments. Scattered documents and magnified pictures of numerous viruses on the projector.
"So, what do you want to show me, doc?"
"This one."
Dr. Mei placed the electron microscope in the quarantine box with her gloved hand. He could see some microorganisms wriggling hard and busy self-replicating on the monitor which connected to the microscope.
"That things. Don't tell me..."
"Yes, it is. This is the Omnic virus. It looks really gross."
Kim slowly backed away and said.
"You're dealing with that things so easy like this? Jesus, Doc. How much of the guts you have?"
"Now, Kim. That is not the point. This is, the one."
Mei pulled a scoop of ice from a refrigerator on one side of the lab.
"Now, this is just a regular ice. Only frozen regular tap water, by the normal refrigerator. This freezer temperature is set at about -6 degrees Celsius. And, guess what happens, if I put this in here."
Mei put the ice in the quarantine box. The cold ice caused condensation to happen in an instant in the box. She, then, put the electron microscope back in. Kim found a phenomenon he had never seen before. The virus quickly lost its original shape and began to shrink, eventually drying out and turning into a twisted shape.
"Now, this is not the end!"
Mei opened the box again, and took out a petri dish containing the virus, and put it back in lukewarm water. The viruses on the electron microscope remained unchanged even when they came back to normal temperature from the coldness of the ice. The virus had died.
"No way, is that it all?"
Kim asked, while showing despondent. How can the virus be neutralized so simply like this?
"No, more than that. How the hell did you find this out?"
"When we almost died in the Ontario Assembly building, I found out a goose that ate icicles mixed with blood from an infected body, by chance."
"Blood… Came out from the infected?"
Kim looked at her with an expression of wonder. However, Dr. Mei's explanation was convincing enough. The virus is neutralized at temperatures below -2 degrees Celsius. There was a reason that why this was not known 100 years ago. The Hội An Laboratory was at the center of Vietnam peninsula, and unlike the area near Canada, the temperature did not drop below 15 degrees Celsius even in the middle of winter. It wasn't that they didn't have a refrigerator, but maybe the refrigerator in the 1980s didn't seem works that perfect.
"I read that these things are even able to survive in the low temperature for sure, but... How the hell did these dumbasses has experimented then?"
Kim said, remembering the contents of the documents what he had found and read, back in Omnic Takeback operation in 1986.
"But even if we found out this fact, how can we use it for?"
In Mei's lab, now, not only Kim and Mei, but Winston, Dr. Mercy, and several other medical staff on the base were coming after hearing that they had found something that could be the clue of this situation.
"It's good enough to find out the fact that a virus could be killed if it's below -2 degrees Celsius. For sure, of course, it is. However, we just can't simply apply this now as a way that can be used to treat patients, can we?"
Kim said, with looking into the picture of the dead virus.
"Of course. Frozen human technology hasn't even been commercialized yet. Well, Mei over here can hide herself in the ice for a while by Cryo-Freeze, but it doesn't completely freeze her all the way to the inside of her body."
Winston said, scratching his head. Tracer, who belatedly participated in Mei's lab meeting, said.
"But it's not all hope has gone. I just overheard from General Gunn. We got a call from the Central Climate Control Center in North America in Detroit. There will be some kind of confusion in the ecosystem, but they just started the emergency operation procedure. The overall winter weather will be maintained for a week on the coast of the Great Lakes region. At least, the natural spread of the virus can be stopped for a while."
Mercy nodded at Tracer's words. It stopped the spread of the infection, but the problem, was the people who had already been infected. Including Omnics, too.
"At least the Omnics mutate immediately after infection, so there is no other way but to destroy them... People are the problem."
Mercy said. Theoretically, if the temperature inside the human body could be lowered to -2 degrees Celsius, the virus would be eradicated, but there was already zero chance that the patient would be alive at that point. Another option was to incinerate at a high temperature, but that was also far from a cure to survive.
"This is a nightmare. It's surely a nightmare!"
Mercy said, wrapping her head by hands. Tears were flowing from her eyes, which seemed strong. It seemed that she's having a hard time in such a desperate situation.
"Is it not done yet, about making a cure?"
"This is the never-seen virus system for everyone, Kim. Even a cure for the Ebola virus discovered in the 1970s is yet to be released! Plus, these weapons-grade viruses induced to very hard to find the treatments from the first place when it's made!"
Winston said, slamming the desk frustratingly.
"The Ebola virus was treated in such a way by constantly hydrated and nourished the patient, until the patient's immune system was able to confront it on its own. But you can't do the same for the Omnic virus right now. Once the patient can't sleep, their immunity and will be weakened as the time passing by. And if we can't drive the virus out of their body by then, well, there's no need for further explanation."
"If someone, really, by a miracle chance, that someone who has been infected by the virus and actually survived exists, there will be no problem for making out the cure as fast as we could, but such now, it takes too long to create a cure with just the virus itself. Research has already begun on that purpose, but based on the current situation, we can't even predict when it will be over."
Dr. Mercy followed Winston's words. , who joined the meeting, asked quietly.
"Then, what can we do now?"
Winston also began to say something that he couldn't bring himself to say.
"This may sound cruel, but here's the conclusion we've come to. We'll continue to develop treatments, of course, not giving up all hopes, but the chances of saving the patients here, are too low. And, time is running out, too."
"What are you talking about!? What do you mean, we can't save those patients out there? They're only relying on their hopes onto us! And, what about our team members? Torbjorn, Reinhardt, Jack... Our colleagues? And those who work with us, even if they're not part of Overwatch? Hanzo, Odessa Stone, Sloan, and Kiriko! And, how about my daughter, my sweet girl Fareeha! We can't just give up them, either!"
Ana, who belatedly grasped the situation through their conversation, rushed into the lab and shouted. She grabbed Mercy and began to begging to her.
"Angela, please. Please tell me something. Please tell me that there's still hope! We shouldn't just let that many people die without any hopes! There are so many people out there who still having believe in us!"
Ana shook Mercy violently. But Mercy burst into tears. Same as in Ana's left eye.
"Captain, ma'am…."
Winston grabbed Ana by the shoulder and said.
"Please listen carefully to me. I know it will be difficult for you to accept... I don't even want to believe it, either. However, we all should prepare our minds, tightly. We'll never give up for solution, and I haven't given up yet, but no one knows how things will turn out now."
Ana began to turn around and slap Winston in the chest, scattering tears.
"Is that what you can say right now! Not just for the others, what should I have to do with my daughter Fareeha! My only daughter! My precious baby!..."
Ana beats the Winston's chest, but eventually she wailed and collapsed in his arms. Winston was unable to control his complex emotions, but he hugged Ana in his arms and comforted her. also burst into tears.
Sergeant Kim said, looking at them with disbelief.
"No… No! That's impossible! 100 years ago, in 100 years ago, back in the day, just only two days..."
"It's not that 100 years ago still, Kim! I don't know what they did back in the day, but now we don't even know what to do to solve this!"
Brigitte also cried out to Kim in tears. Sombra, Sigma, and Widowmaker did not enter the lab, but stared blankly at the quarantine wards in outside.
But in Kim's head, a clue popped in. Somehow, he felt like he was really an idiot. Why did I forget about this one fact? The horrible times that he had to go through 100 years ago in Nha Trang's military hospital? The blue medication that was brought to him by the doctor, who diagnosed him with a 'selective psychopath'?
And thanks for that, the only one, who survived from Omnic virus, himself?
Kim grabbed the crying Mercy and began to speak.
"Doc, say what you were said again! So, if we found out someone that cured in once, we can change the game, right?"
Mercy wiped away her tears and answered to Kim in a voice that was exhausted.
"I've already told you, damn it, Kim. Yes, we may be able to find antibody in the body who had experienced self-healed. But we can't find such a person, in a viral disease less than a week after it's spread. Especially in biological weapons-grade viruses!"
"So, if we are able to found out someone who's been healed from the virus, we may have a chance, right?"
"Stop it Kim! Yes! If you find someone who is naturally healed, then maybe we could, but it can't be possible right now!"
Winston bristled angrily. However, Kim once again reviewed on what Mercy said.
"No, it's not. It's not a doom. We still have a hope!"
When Kim shouted in the lab, which turned into a sea of tears, everyone stopped crying and looked at him.
"…. The hell are you talking about, Kim?"
"Brigitte, please give me a chance to speak. Now, Dr. Mercy, and Winston, too! If we can find someone who's been cured after it got infected by the Omnic virus, then there might be a solution that we might not know?"
"It's not just gonna be 'we might not know', it's probably more than 80 percent close to a solution. If someone actually survived from the virus, no matter how it happens, we'll still able to traces the antibodies or other ways to fight it off inside the candidate's body."
Kim began to laugh at the sudden rise of hope. Everyone thought he was finally gone crazy.
"Dr. Mercy, Winston! And everyone else! We have a solution!"
"… What is it?"
Ana stopped crying and looked at Kim, and said.
"It's me! I am, the survivor of the Omnic virus!"
"… What?"
"Of course, it's hard to believe it right now. But, uh, Second Commander Ana, ma'am! You should check the records that maybe still could remain in the U.S. military later! About the Omnic Project, and the survivors of Operation Omnic Takeback. I'll tell you in advance, there's probably a report exist, about the only one person, who survived after got infected by the virus!"
Everyone couldn't accept the situation well and was listening only to what Kim was saying.
"Dr. Angela! Do you still remember what I said about 'Selective Psychopaths' after I first arrived at the Gibraltar?"
Mercy reviewed her memory and nodded.
"That's the remains of the virus. My problem itself, which is normally at a normal time, but once I provoke, then show the terrible violence. Isn't that something familiar you can come up with?"
Everyone reflected on the unpleasantly violent tendencies, that Kim had inadvertently shown on a few times, with the behavior of the infected that they had encountered outside. Something was oddly right.
"Back in 1986, during Operation Omnic Takeback, I, too, was got infected by the virus and truly gone almost before death. However, I did survive. I don't know what the treatment was, and even it had left me some aftereffects, but I'm now living fine and showing up in front of all of you! I'm the one who can solve this out, the one you're looking for, who's got cured of the Omnic virus!"
Still stunned by what Kim said, but they used their heads around and concluded. If Kim really was a survivor of the virus, he might still have antibodies in his body. And in such an urgent situation, there will no benefit for him to tell such a lie, so trustworthy.
Hope and pride rose again as the expressions of those who were crying. Mercy hurriedly looked at the medical devices in Mei's lab and shouted to Kim.
"Kim! I need your blood. Schnell (Quick)!"
Kim answered, rolling up his sleeves vigorously.
"Get as much out unless you kill me! Hurry the fuck-up!"
While Kim was lying on the bed, holding a rubber ball in his hand, he was doing a continuous fist-clenching exercise. The blood, flowing from the injection needle in his left arm, filled a 500cc blood transfusion pack. First, Mercy filled a 10 ml ampule bottle with Kim's blood, and placed it in a centrifuge. The process ended quickly. Red blood cells and platelets were separated from the blood, and only plasma components were extracted by a syringe.
"Kim, your blood type... RH type O, is that right?"
"Correct, doc. It's very healthy and the most normal blood that anyone can get a blood transfusion."
"That's enough of the joke, Kim. This is urgent now."
Kim's plasma was put into the Cultivation Pot, where the Omnic Viruses are in, that Mei had previously made. When injecting into a person, it was necessary to separate the fibrinogen, but for now, it had to be hurried.
They didn't have to wait that long for the result. The Omnic viruses got destroyed in front of Kim's plasma.
Winston, Mei, and Brigitte explained the situation to Kim, and then hung another 500cc blood transfusion pack. Of course, Kim agreed in the first place, recognizing the seriousness of the situation.
"Christ, it will be pretty dizzy after I have done this."
"Your body is in good health enough to last for now, even if we draw up to 2 liters of blood from you. I'm sorry, but please understand this."
Of course, extracting more than a liter of blood at a time was an unprecedented situation, but it was inevitable.
Mercy, who skillfully took over Winston's work, created a temporary serum that could be injected directly into humans.
"Now, there is only the long-awaited test left."
Everyone rushed to the quarantine ward, where infected Overwatch's teammates are. Winston and Brigitte were fully prepared to start cloning antibodies at any time, in preparation for the outcome. But the question was, who would get injected first was. Kim's blood was a blood type that could be injected into anyone, but the urgency was the same for everyone who has been infected.
They alternated between 13 Overwatch teammates. Even it still was a testing sample, but it was because there was a hope exists.
Once the comprehensive evaluation was conducted, they decided to give Kiriko the shot first. It was because the racial difference between Kim and her was not far away, and she was in the worst condition overall. Hanzo, who was also the similar race but still had the strength to endure, was willing to give up the serum, and Ana, who expected the Pharah to receive the serum first, agreed to the decision as Pharah persuaded her in person.
Kiriko was sat on the bed in the quarantine room and was struggling in breath. The neatly-tied ponytail was already scattered. She kept her eyes open somehow, thinking that it would be over if she lost her mind, but she was going crazy. She remembered Akari and Mr. Yoshida, who had a particularly special relationship with her in Japan. Above all, she mostly misses her mother, Asa, who must be waiting for her now, eagerly. Her eyes were filled with tears as she remembered every word that Asa always said, with worrying about her.
"おかあちゃん…. (Mom...)"
Then the door of the quarantine room opened. When the double blocking door opened, she could see Kim walking toward her without any protective gear.
"Kim! No! Get out of here! I'm still infected!"
Kiriko freaked out, covering her mouth and shouting.
"Calm down, Kiri. I'm alright, so don't worry. And, now, I've got something to ease your pain."
Kim took out the disposable syringe he received from Dr. Mercy and said.
"What's that?"
"The virus treatment that made by not just Dr. Angela, Winston, Brigitte and everyone, as working hardly. It's still in the test stage, but it's urgent right now. Give me your arm."
Kim carefully picked up Kiriko's right arm. Her arm, which was usually hard by muscles, is now drooping weakly like an old man's arm. The needle popped out and was stuck inside Kiriko's arm. They both could hear the treatment injected into her body. Kim lifted Kiriko up and laid her on the bed.
"Now, you can sleep for a moment without any worries, Kiriko. You can rest easy now."
Kiriko couldn't figure out what was going on, but as soon as Kim got her head in a pillow, she began to fall asleep. All that had to go through with the virus, after enduring her previous duties, made her tired enough.
After confirming that Kiriko was asleep, Kim sent a signal through the window. The door quickly opened, and two medical staff dressed in protective gears came in and meticulously disinfected the entire room. Not only Kiriko who fell asleep, but also Kim, who injected her, they both carefully covered the both of them with disinfectant and wiped the body from place to place. Overwatch heroes, including Dr. Mercy, watched as Kim walked out of from the quarantine room, shaking off his glasses.
Kim wondered when he saw medical staff with syringes also entering the quarantine ward of other heroes.
"What the. Was my serum being many enough to inject to all of them?"
"No, it wasn't. We just told Winston and Brigitte to start replicating the serums. Well, if it doesn't work, we'll all be in serious trouble, but if we analyze the possibilities now, there are only two possibilities anyway, right? Failing, they got mutated, too, or got cured and survived."
"Be careful what you said, Angela. I'd rather not listen for the bad results."
Mercy explained, and then, Second Commander Ana added.
Serum replication, which started with a simple production line, quickly increased to more than 10 along with everyone's overtime work, and immediately poured out numerous serums containing antibodies that came from Kim. It was evitable for everyone in the quarantine ward in the base, well, but those who had already mutated, they got no choice but eliminating them, but it was enough for all infected people to receive it anyway.
Just 30 minutes after the serum was injected, Mercy connected various sensors and medical devices to Kiriko's body and discovered the surprising result. She was sure to be asleep, and if the virus was still there, the brainwave fluctuations should be changed as mutations should have begun, but not only the viruses in her body disappeared quickly, also the brain activity generally showed that of a sleeping person. Same was to others.
Immediately after receiving the serum, Hanzo and Lùcio experienced a rapid refreshing of the body and a decrease of fever. However, they had to sleep for the most certain outcome, so they decided to sleep once, whether it was long or short, with the help of Dr. Angela. In fact, they were still felt nervous.
Ana went into Pharah's room despite the aggressive dissuasion of the medical staff. Then she prayed quietly, brushing the sleeping daughter's hair with each of her fingers.
Torbjorn and Reinhardt also fell asleep, pledging to see each other again, alive, through the wall between them.
In case something went wrong, Junker Queen filled out a paper similar to her will and handed it to Junkrat. Contrary to his usual insanity, Junkrat also carefully accepted the paper and looked at the queen, who began to sleep.
Zarya and Soldier: 76, Venture also fall to sleep after calming down in their own way.
Sojourn greets with her colleagues, which could be the last, if things went wrong.
Cassidy, preparing in case of he could not wake up, he wrote the last letter to Ashe, who might still be just getting wild, as same as the past, in the far west.
Kim could not hide his anxiety as he wandered around in front of the colleagues' rooms. He knew well, and he had no complaints because it was a serum that he provided with his will, but it feels like that the possibility of something could go wrong keep threatening his balls. was organizing the items left by other medical staff and found Kim.
(They are both speaking in Korean, again.)
"Kim, you alright?"
"Uh, hey. Well, compared to those guys, I'm nothing."
Kim, in particular, looked more at Kiriko's room. She was at the worst condition in the middle of infected team members, but especially because of the feelings he had on her.
"So, what are you going to do if Kiriko wakes up?"
"What do you mean? What about?"
"About You have feelings for her."
"… How did you know?"
"Come on. Anyone could guess. You, sometimes, shows some appearance that really doesn't fit in normal you."
The both of the two just looked at Kiriko.
"By the way, if I may advise you one thing, you might as well to confess to her, if you have a chance."
"… Really?"
"But also, with great care. What girls really want is not an ignorant strong muscle-only man, but someone who can really understand them and lower himself, and someone of dignity."
"…."
"Well, good luck. Just do it well."
slapped Kim on the back and said.
10 hours later, Kiriko finally woke up from the bed she was lying in. The headache and high fever that had plagued her until yesterday had disappeared as if they had ever existed. She got up from the bed and took a few steps. It was light, as if she could fly away. She groped her body a few times, then breathed a sigh of relief. She had been cured. Looking out, she could see Winston and Kim sleeping together, leaning on each other.
All the Overwatch heroes woke up safely. Kim's serum finally proved to be effective against the omnic virus. All other soldiers on the base who received the cloned serum were also able to recover. Those who had already mutated had no choice but to quietly end their pain, but were able to save all who had not.
Everyone visited Kim, and praised him as a hero, and cheered. However, he credited to Overwatch's intellectual, such as Dr. Mercy and Winston, as well as other medical researchers.
A week later, all available weapons swept through Toronto and any infected city in the area. Infected omnics and infected people, covered in thick snow and ice, were eliminated one by one. After the work has done, transport planes have passed widely across North America, spraying mass-produced serum throughout the region. Serum that fell to the ground, like artificial rainfall, is absorbed everywhere without causing significant damage to the ecosystem, finally neutralizing the surviving viruses by hiding somewhere. At the same time, it has instilled immunity to the omnic virus in all living things that have not yet been infected, and infected but still not have mutated.
Cities and towns in Ontario, Quebec, New York, and Michigan were ruined enough to require restoration, but firstly, at least the threat of the virus has disappeared completely.
[Peacekeeper Base, May 15th, 2078.]
Talon's plane engine started. Sigma and Widowmaker got on board the plane as showing not that much of different emotion as they did when they first arrived. But somehow, they showed minimal appreciation for their collaboration with Overwatch. Sombra said, shaking hands with Brigitte for the last time.
"Well, the cooperation wasn't that bad, señorita. Maybe I'll miss you? Haha. Anyway, I've had fun with you in the meantime. Take care of yourself."
"Stop looking into my personal record... But if you're going to look in, I'll just leave a little message for you. Be careful on your trip."
"(light laughs) Thank you, Brigitte. Take care."
Sombra and Brigitte hugged and patted each other on the back. Then, Sombra also asked Kim for a final handshake.
"Your skill, it wasn't bad at all, señor Kim. I don't know when you'll be able to go back to the time you came from, but I'll wish you for the best. And, thank you."
Kim also responded with courtesy.
"Go back safely to the last road, señorita. Everything could have been done safer thanks to your help."
Unlike when they first met, the two said goodbye, with a sincere smile.
Talon's aircraft went off the runway and disappeared far away. Talon was still a terrorist organization that caused problems not only for Overwatch but also around the world, but for today, everyone was able to let go of them this time. Everyone looked peacefully at the place where the aircraft disappeared.
