A Camping Trip part 2
Chapter 4 Questions answered or unanswered?
As Jeremy and Candy drove home neither spoke very much. What happened in that little cabin was something that they both had to process. The boy, another Candy? How could they explain, was it something supernatural, was it something in their minds? The would look at each other without saying words but understood the meanings. When they got back to town, Candy went to the dormitory, and Jeremy went to the Bolt cabin. They decided to wait for a couple of days.
"Jeremy, Jeremy!" shouted Jason as he entered the cabin. Jeremy was just sitting down at the table to eat something when Jason arrived with Joshua and Swede. He looked up at them and said:
"Hello, what is happening?" he smiled, a nervous smile when he said that.
"Just what happened there at the cabin? Joshua asked.
"Yeah what did happen, first you are there, then a little boy and Candy show up, what is going on here" Jason inquired as he sat directly in front of Jeremy. Jeremys at there and thought about what he could say and what he couldn't say.
"J-j-jason, J-J-josh,…" Jeremy started picking what he was going to say to them;
"I am really sorry to have scared all of you, I was coming back from the camping trip and it started to rain and thunder and lighting so I headed for the old cabin and hunkered down there for a time. I fell asleep and the next thing I remember is you and Swede and a couple of others knocking on the door and bursting in. Just at that time a bolt of lightning lit up the sky and boy, you sure scared me! I thought I was seeing monsters again!" Jeremy said. They looked at him and then Jason said:
"Who was that little boy with Candy?" Jeremy looked at Josh and Jason, he could not tell them much because he would jeopardized the way back home and he had to keep them in the dark. They were not part of this but they had shown up.
"Well, I don't know what little boy you are talking about. I was glad to see Candy but I was worried that she might have gotten lost, I am glad she was with you guys until she came in to see me. They looked at him, and Joshua still asked:
"But who was that little boy?" Jeremy looked at his brother and said:
"I don't know anything about a little boy and Candy did not have a little boy with her either, she showed up at the door, in fact a few minutes before you showed up. That is why I thought she came with you?" There, he had put the question back on them. Jason and Joshua still could not understand who the little boy was and wanted to know but realized that Jeremy either really never saw the little boy but if he did, then he wasn't going to tell them.
"Well, I am very tired, it has been a long day and I am finally glad to be back home!" I am going to go to bed now, I will talk with you tomorrow." Jeremy stood up, stretched his arms and went to his room. Jason and Joshua were deep in thought and then as the night wore on, both of them fell asleep.
Chapter 5 Back to the camping trip
A few days earlier, Jeremy had said goodbye to Candy and to his brothers and left on a week-long camping trip. His intention was to get away from work and a lot of people. Candy didn't really understand, she was not happy that he was alone. It was after all beginning to get colder and Autumn was just around the corner.
"Candy sometimes a man has to be able to get away from everything and everyone!" Jeremy had said to her.
"Oh, but I am so worried that something might happen to you! Remember the time you were on your way home and you almost fell over a cliff and Richard helped you? I don't know what I would have done if you had died!" She started to cry. Jeremy held her and comforted her and said:
"It will only be a week; I will be back before the end of the month!" He took his kerchief and dried her tears and put it back in his pocket. He was a little sentimental himself. The kerchief would be something to hold onto that would remind him of her. She finally dried her tears and Jeremy got on Brownie, he had said goodbye to everyone else and road away.
Later that day, he had gone about 20 miles and stopped he had some lunch and was about to get ready to go another 10 or 15 miles that day. Brownie caught wind of something and would not let Jeremy on. Jeremy looked around, usually when Brownie acted this she smelled something or sensed something. He saw it, a mountain lion crouching up in a tree, but its back was to them. Something on the other side had captured its attention. Jeremy took Brownie out of site of the big cat and then circled around to see what the animal was stalking. At first he didn't see anything, then a slight movement of what looked like a small rodent running and stopping. Every so often.
Jeremy looked but didn't say anything or do anything just yet, he could not believe his eyes, the small being was covered in moss, and leaves. He seemed lost or at a loss as to which way to go. Certainly the big cat was scary for him. Jeremy snuck up around to where he could see the creature and keep an eye on the big cat.
Again, it seemed it ran wildly to and fro, not going more than a few inches at a time. Jeremy looked up at the big cat and thought, if he could distract the cat, the creature would have a chance. So, without thinking he took his gun and shot in the air towards the cat. The cat was startled and ran in the opposite direction. The creature was happy and had seen Jeremy. He smiled in his own way and soon was up near Jeremy who was climbing down to get to brownie.
"Ach! Stop there young man!" The creature called out, Jeremy was looking around for someone his size, but when the creature dropped from the tree that had recently been occupied by a large cat, Jeremy saw him.
"My name is Ghellie Du, have your parents told you of me?" Jeremy looked at him and shook his head no. He put the gun to his side and waited for the creature to speak some more.
"You have no memory of me, Jeremy Bolt, but I will tell you I was your friend those many years ago, when ye were first born here in this land. I was your protector, until your brother Jason could help you. We played many a game of hide and seek when you were young, after your sweet mother passed away."
"How, how come, I-I-I don't remember you?" Jeremy asked sitting on the log with Brownie his horse nearby? And how come you come to me now?" Jeremy asked him. Ghellie looked at him and smiled and said:
"Ye know, I canna say much, but, Jeremy Bolt, this camping trip will be a test and a growing up period for ye!" He said to him
"I will be with you for a time, ye will need me. It was not happenstance that you rescued me Jeremy Bolt! But, ye will need to carry this stone. It is from Kilmaron, your ancestral home. Keep it, and do not lose it, ye will need it when the time comes!" Jeremy felt a tingle running up and down his spine. He almost saw, or what he thought he saw, his parents, both mother and father. Ghellie the creature just barely showed the vision.
"Why me? Why are you coming to me?" Jeremy managed to ask.
"Your brothers are two old now, you are still young enough for this quest, part of which will heal the pain you hold deep in your heart and part will bind you to your intended." The creature did not say more. Jeremy looked at him. He had black hair and used leaves and moss to cover himself. Somewhere in the back of Jeremy's mine he knew this to be a Scottish fairy. Ghillie Dhu.
"Your thoughts Jeremy are correct, ye do remember. For now, hold onto that stone. I will be with you no matter what happens to ye!" He stopped then and with a wave of his 'hand', he disappeared.
Jeremy stood alone in that hill, he looked all the ways and did not see the faery. He got on Brownie and traveled about 15 miles more. Stopped and made camp for the night.
