1. Chapter 1: The Team

Hello everyone ! This is my first fanfiction. I love Young Justice, especially Blue Beetle, and even though the series is quite old, I hope you'll check out my story ! Oh, also, English is not my native language, so if there are any mistakes, you'll have to tell Google Translate !

Chapter 1 : The Team

El Paso

December 3rd

Jaime Reyes, get up. Now. said the Scarab.

«Mmphh…» Jaime mumbled, half asleep. «Five more minutes, ese…»

This is your first day with Young Justice, Jaime Reyes, you have to get up now.

At that, Jaime felt an electric shock run through his body. He jumped out of bed, grabbed the clothes carefully chosen the night before, and dashed to the bathroom. He showered quickly, ate breakfast, and brushed his teeth at lightning speed. He didn't want to be late for his first day with the team, oh no! Jaime quickly swallowed his medication, yelling «Have a nice day!» to his mother downstairs. Then, when he was ready, Jaime opened his bedroom window.

"Let's go, Scarab!"

The distinctive blue armor covered him and his two wings spread out behind his back. A wide smile spread across Jaime's face. The boy then flew towards Mount Justice.

Mount Justice

December 3, 7:26 AM

Recognized: Blue Beetle B-22

Jaime reappeared in the training room of Mount Justice. Nightwing, looking at the screen in the center of the room, turned around.

"Ah, Jaime! Perfect, you're just in time to attend the briefing of our first mission."

Nightwing approached Jaime. He crossed his arms and said :

"Since it's your first day, your role in the mission will not put you in danger, and you won't be alone."

"Okay." Jaime agreed.

Nightwing then pressed the panic button. A few moments later, the rest of the team arrived in the training room. Miss Martian, Superboy, WonderGirl, Beast Boy, Robin, Bumblebee, Lagoon Boy, and Batgirl stared at him.

"Uh...Hi! I'm Blue Beetle..."

Systems reset in progress. I advise you to stay on your guard, Jaime Reyes.

Jaime let out a small sigh and said between his teeth :

"This is Young Justice, ese, they're not my enemies."

Stay alert though. You never know.

Jaime rolled his eyes. Then he focused back on Nightwing and felt the redness rise to his cheeks when he noticed the questioning looks from the team. Nightwing coughed and continued :

"Blue Beetle is the newest member of the team." Nightwing announced.

Miss Martian's face lit up and she approached Jaime, saying :

"Welcome, Blue Beetle! I'm Miss Martian, but you can call me M'gann!"

"Glad to have a new one!" Wondergirl said as she approached.

The other members of the team also approached him, welcoming him. Nightwing coughed behind their backs again. Immediately, all the members of the team fell silent and turned to him.

"Good." Nightwing announced. "An incident has been triggered in the city. Several villains have decided to destroy the city and are attacking civilians. They are the Terror Twins, Captain Cold and Professor Ivo. They have gotten their hands on several bombs, and are threatening to detonate them. Your mission will be to recover these bombs and neutralize the villains."

Nightwing turned to the team.

"Batgirl, Miss Martian and I are Alpha Team. We will locate and destroy the bombs. Robin, Wondergirl, Superboy and Beast Boy, you are Beta. You take care of neutralizing the villains. Bumblebee, Lagoon Boy and Blue Beetle, you are Gamma. You watch the backs of Beta Team and protect the civilians. Understood?"

They all nodded.

"Bumblebee, this is Blue Beetle's first team mission. You are in charge of guiding him if needed." Nightwing added. "Let's go!"

Jaime felt a thrill of excitement run through him as he headed towards the zeta tube.

Activating security systems. Checking internal circuits. Armor 100% functional. You are clear to go, Jaime Reyes.

"Gracias, Scarab!" Jaime muttered before entering the tube.
