Chapter 6

A failed confession

Everything was awfully quiet on the campus. Lindsay was really guilty about what she did and she felt the urge to confess to everyone. If I confess, they might forgive me… but they can eliminate me as well. I think I am not going to take the risk… Duncan still didn't find the right time to apologise and explain everything to Gwen and Courtney. He finds himself having feelings for Courtney. The challenges got harder and harder, and for some of the contestants, diving in love at the same time with the challenges is pretty difficult. Some of the campers dedicate their time to the challenges only. Heather wanted to be one of them so bad, but Alejandro was distracting her. I have to eliminate Alejandro or I can't win this game. Strategy before feelings. She thought. She craved her parents' attention and she would do anything for it. One thing Heather did not realise, her parents were not who she thought they were.

Meanwhile at Heather's home.

''We should donate everything Heather owns. She will buy new things with the money she will win.'' said Heather's father.

''Yes, I totally agree. If she doesn't win the money, what will the press think of us?! We will kick her out and make up a tragic accident. Maybe a car accident?'' asked Heather's mother.

Heather's parents were famous celebrities and the only thing they cared about was what the people would think of them. They took some important decisions based on that.

''Let's not be too pessimistic, and let's hope she wins the money.''

''I am going to get a lot of money with the golden trophies she has in her room.''

''Yes!''

At campus

''I hope you are ready for today's challenge. It is going to be one of the toughest challenges you ever experienced.''

Some of the contestants rolled their eyes, because Chris always said that, but the other ones were actually scared of what was going to come.

''Good luck today.'' said Trent.

''Thanks. You too. I have faith we will win again. We never lost a single challenge since we got here.'' said Gwen, happy.

Little did she know that the last challenge was sabotaged by Lindsay. Heather took Lindsay aside and told her:

''Whatever this challenge is going to be, you can win it. Only this time. If The Owls win all the challenges, it will seem suspicious and they will figure out my plan.''

''That's fine.'' Said Lindsay, thrilled that she didn't have to sabotage her own team this time.

Heather didn't tell Lindsay one thing: she didn't actually care if it appeared suspicious or not, she wanted to eliminate Alejandro. In the meantime, Alejandro didn't know how to tell Heather how he felt. He was sure Heather felt that way about him too, but he didn't have the courage to tell her that.

''For today's challenge you have to pick someone from your team you trust with your life. They have to catch you, or you will fall in this pool full of piranha. It's up to them if they choose the victory of the team or to harm someone they hate. They also cannot be able to catch you due to their clumsiness. The team who has the least people falling in the pool wins. The challenge begins now. Who wants to go first?''

The silence was loud. Everyone was afraid of this crazy challenge Chris wanted them to do.

''We should pair! I will totally catch you!'' said Court to Gwen, convinced she would agree.

''I think I will pair with Trent. Sorry!'' responded Gwen.

Geoff and Harold instantly wanted to pair, because neither of them liked Duncan or Alejandro. They were the only boys left in the team who were nice. I have to pair with Alejandro to see if he actually wants to help me win this game and if he's worthy of my time. Thought Heather.

''We should do this together!'' suggested Heather.

''Uh, I guess?'' said Alejandro, sceptical.

After almost all of the pairs on The Owls team were made, Chris realised The Owls did not have an even number of members and The Beatles only had four pairs while The Owls had five.

''Someone has to do this challenge twice. I want a volunteer from The Owls team. A pair from The Beatles has to do the challenge twice as well. '' He announced.

Heather volunteered for The Owls. Eva and Leshawna didn't have a problem doing it twice. They were the strongest contestants.

''I guess we are the last pair, considering Heather will do it with Beth too, right Court?'' asked Duncan.

''Of… right. Let's get this over with…''

The Beatles were done quicker than The Owls.

''I am going to announce the final pairs for this challenge. Gwen and Trent, Courtney and Duncan, Geoff and Harold, Heather and Alejandro, and again Heather and Beth. For The Beatles we have: Lindsay and Tyler, Sierra and Cody, Justin and Owen, Eva and Leshawna. You have the chance to choose who jumps and who catches.''

''Let's go first! Live a little!'' said Gwen.

''Wow, I am surprised, but yes!'' Trent accepted.

Gwen went up the stairs, ready to jump for Trent to catch her. Trent caught her and hugged her tightly.

''That was terrifying. I am never doing that again.''

''I bet.''

''Now let's allow a pair from The Beatles to jump.'' said Chris.

Tyler jumped, but Lindsay wasn't able to catch him in time. She was too clumsy for that.

''Stop them!" Tyler yelled, and the piranhas didn't stop.

Chef took him to the infirmary to get better while the challenge continued. Lindsay couldn't believe she hurt Tyler. That is how all my team members will feel if I keep sabotaging the team… I didn't actually mean it this time, but other time I will. These challenges are too dangerous.

Heather decided to risk her life and have faith in Alejandro. I hope he doesn't hate me this much to let me get hurt other than emotionally hurt… Alejandro was really worried. What if I can't catch her in time and she ends up like Tyler?! I can do this! I can!

Heather ended up in Alejandro's arms, and Alejandro was relieved. He was so happy he accidentally said something he shouldn't have said.

''Mi amor…''

Heather looked up with her sweet brown eyes and asked with hope and confusion in her voice:

''W-what did you just call me?''

''Get down! Enough with the hugs!'' yelled Chris, who wanted more violence.

Alejandro let go and did not answer Heather's serious question. I don't want to do this challenge with Heather, but I guess I have too… she is a cheater! I believe she cheated since she got here! I don't care if it was to help the team, but it's wrong. I don't know why Lindsay is helping her… she must know a big secret of Lindsay's. Thought Beth.

It was Sierra and Cody's turn. Sierra caught Cody and he ended up fine. He was scared even after they finished the challenge, but he calmed down after a few minutes. Court and Duncan were up next.

''I see there were only pairs of lovebirds until now.'' Said Chris, smirking.

Gwen and Trent got as red as a tomato, Court and Duncan kept denying it and the other two couples giggled. Duncan decided Courtney would be the one to jump, and not because he didn't trust her with his life, quite the contrary, he trusted her with his heart, but because he wanted to make sure she was safer than ever. Duncan opened his arms widely and Courtney came flying over the pool full of fish right in his hands, that were shaking. Duncan helped Courtney get down and she thanked him for more than one hundred times for not letting her fall. Justin and Owen looked at each other, and they knew it was oblivious who would risk their life. Owen was too heavy to be caught by Justin. Owen was a centimetre apart from dropping Justin, but they made it. Geoff and Harold did not succeed. Harold was thrown right in the pool. The piranhas bit him hard. Chef came back and took him to the infirmary too.

Geoff went down the stairs disappointed and guilty, letting Eva and Leshawna continue. The strong girls did it twice, as planned. Of course, their performance was flawless. If I don't catch Beth, we will lose. If I do, it will be draw… I hope I am going to succeed. Stressed Heather. Heather stood there frozen while Beth was coming towards her with a speed you couldn't define. Heather didn't even have time to lend her a hand before she hit her head and fell. Everyone gasped at Beth getting eaten by the heartless fish.

It was a big day for The Beatles, the first challenge ever won by them. Lindsay couldn't be happier, while Heather was being judged by everyone. Alejandro wanted to comfort her, but he stayed silent.

At the infirmary

''I am so sorry for what happened today. You are lucky you can vote. Can you-''

Heather apologised. She was willing to ask Beth to vote with her tonight. Heather wanted to get rid of Alejandro so she could focus on the game, even if she was not so sure about that after what happened at the pool. He called me 'Mi amor…'. He never called me that while we were together… but I have to win the money for my parents to accept me! I am sure he will understand. Heather liked to tell herself that.

''I am not going to do anything for you. Your apologies don't mean anything to me. I know what you did. I know you cheated so our team would win.'' answered Beth, mad.

''W-what…? But how?!''

''I won't explain myself to you. Get out!''

Right in that moment Heather realised she has to vote Beth off, or she would tell everyone sooner or later. She found Alejandro at the cabin and asked him:

''We should vote together tonight. Let's vote for Beth. She is injured and she can't help us anymore.''

''But Harold is also injured. Why Beth?'' asked Alejandro, flattered Heather would finally treat him right.

''Uh, please. I can't explain.'' Heather begged.

''Fine. I will try to convince everyone.''

Alejandro loved her too much to deny helping her. I am sure Beth did something. I will trust her.

At the campfire

''Well, I have a marshmallow for…. Gwen, Trent, Courtney, Duncan, Geoff, Harold, Heather, and the last marshmallow of the night belongs to….''

Alejandro and Beth glared at each other. How could she do something to Heather?! I hope she never shows her face again. Alejandro got defensive.

''Alejandro. You can say goodbye, Beth.'' Announced Chris.

''Wait! Heather-''

Heather covered her mouth and pushed her away. Alejandro got suspicious. What if Beth knows something about Heather she shouldn't? That's a possibility too.

Chris grabbed Beth by her arms and guided her violently to the boat of losers. As the boat was navigating further and further, Beth was yelling:

''Be careful about Heather! She is-''

But then the boat was too far away and the rest of the things she said couldn't be heard by The Owls. Heather exhaled, relieved. I am so happy she didn't get to tell anyone about what I did. This is the only time I lose a challenge. I will win all of them! With Alejandro by side we could convince these losers who to vote every time. Alejandro followed Heather to the girls' cabin and asked:

''What does Beth know?'' He was dead serious.

''What are you talking about?'' asked Heather, acting clueless.

''I know she knows something you don't want anyone else to know.''

''Yes, including you.''

Heather tried to walk away, but Alejandro did not let her.

''I helped you out tonight. If it weren't for me, everyone would have voted for you. Our team thinks you are responsible for breaking our streak of winning.''

''I will tell you when the time is right, I promise! Goodnight.''

Heather left, leaving Alejandro there standing, looking at the bright moon and wondering of his feelings.

I will find out what she's hiding…

End of chapter. I am sorry for not updating on this story for about 2 months. You could consider this chapter a gift, since it is longer than the others.
