Private life and Business meeting!
Fran comes down the stairs in a very short sexy dress. She has rolled her hair into curls, so now they playfully frame her face. She goes to the mirror in the hallway and checks her makeup one last time. She wipes some lipstick off her teeth.
Maggie and Brighton hang around in the living room, watching their nanny. Brighton whistles through his teeth in approval. Maggie admires her appearance.
"Wow! What an outfit Fran! May I borrow it once?"
"Over my dead body!" Fran comes to the couch.
"Listen, guys! Gracie is spending the night at Erica's house tonight and you guys will be on your best behavior. I don't wanna hear any complaints!" Just then, Niles enters the room with a bowl of popcorn.
"Wow, Miss Fine! What are you up to tonight?"
"I have another date with Mark!"
"Again?! You are seeing this gentleman quite often lately. Surely this is going to be serious?" Niles stares at Fran, curious.
She has been the nanny in the Sheffield household for over a year now, but none of her relationships had lasted that long. Fran smiles mischievously.
"We'll see. Anyway, he's a great guy: handsome, charming, generous and he can dance...I swear he makes your knees weak."
During her babbling, Maxwell dressed in an elegant tux, joins them. He gives her a disapproving snort. Annoyed he hisses.
"Miss Fine! Are you gushing about your dream lover again? You're acting like a silly teenager!"
"Mr. Sheffield! Some people actually have a private life, unlike you."
"By the way, when are we going to meet your Prince Charming?"
"You know, I've learned from my mistakes. I will wait before I expose Mark to my crazy family and introduce him to this household." She sparkles at him with dark eyes, as she continues.
"You should be happy you don't have to meet him. He's extremely jealous and he doesn't like me living under the same roof as you at all!"
"That's ridiculous! You're only my nanny and I'm your boss!"
Maggie and Brighton roll their eyes in annoyance. There are always these bickerings between Fran and their father. He doesn't seem to like it to see Fran dating another man. But she's insisting on her right to have a private life. Niles looks rather distressed. His boss is obviously jealous of this Mark guy. Why doesn't he finally invite Miss Fine to a dinner date himself. Instead, he lets her go out with some strange men and then he, Niles, must endure his foul mood.
Maxwell puts on his coat and turns to his children.
"Well I'm off! Behave yourselves and don't give Niles any fight!"
"Where are you going, Mr. Sheffield and so chic?" asks Fran.
"I'm meeting a potential backer at the Plaza. I hope to convince him of my qualities. Oh, by the way Niles. I'm going to spend the night at the Plaza. I can't possibly expect from our driver to wait all night and last time it was so late, I almost didn't get a cab. I don't want to go over this again."
"All right, sir!" Niles wonders.
This sponsor really seems to be a tough one. Several times now, his boss had met him and each time, he had come home very late. The last time it was early in the morning. Maxwell waves goodbye to everyone and drives off in the limousine.
A short time later, a cab pulls up in front of the mansion and Fran heads out.
"Don't wait for me, Niles. I'm sure it will get rather late or early." She winks at him and is gone.
Niles watches after her, depressed. There she goes, enjoying her life and his boss is spending the night at the Plaza. And he's left behind to sit at home and take care of two teenagers.
Maxwell arrives at the hotel. He had already booked a luxurious suite. He takes a look to check if all the arrangements he had asked for had been made. Satisfied, he goes down to the bar. He orders a cognac. All the time, he squints at the entrance. Finally, he catches sight of the person he was waiting for.
