Chapter 1
A Journey Begins
A cold breeze swept through the open window as Lucas put on his hoodie over his long sleeve shirt. A shiver ran down his spine which had nothing to do with the early August weather and more with finally graduating from Snowpoint Trainer's academy. The ceremony had been yesterday and today he could finally begin his journey.
The whole academy situation had been a point of argument between him and his dad. Lucas felt he didn't need to go to the school since his dad was a world famous Battle Tutor, trainers from all over the world would request his services to train their Pokémon. Unfortunately without graduating he couldn't receive his trainer's license.
"Well now all that nonsense is over. I can be on my way." Lucas grinned as he went over his supplies for the trip. "Let's see here, ten pokeballs?" He touched the small metallic devices hanging from his belt. "Check. Potions, antidotes, camping gear." He opened his backpack and made sure it had everything. "Check, check and check."
He slung backpack on and made his way downstairs. In the kitchen his mom and dad waited for him. Tall, muscular with black hair, Byron Senz sat at the island drinking a cup of coffee and listening to the news. Short with blond hair and blue eyes, Alicia Senz wrote a couple of notes in her notebook as she took a sip from her own mug.
Between them sat three pokeballs along with a red and black sleek device, Lucas recognized as a pokedex. Lucas frowned; he wasn't supposed to get his starter and dex until he went over to see Candice, the Snowpoint Gym Leader.
His parents looked up. His mom smiled, got up and handed him a plate of scrambled eggs, toast and orange juice. "Lucas dear, morning, how was your sleep?"
Byron nodded at him and continued to drink his coffee.
"It was good." Lucas nodded at the three pokeballs as he speared a piece of egg with his fork. "What are those?"
"I'll let your father explain. I have to get going soon but I wanted to know which one you'll be picking before I set off."
His mom worked at the Pokémon Coordinator School in the city. Coordinators unlike trainers went around different regions participating in contests to win ribbons. Some of the most famous coordinators gained sponsorships for different products and were superstars. His mom had been one and she still did commercials every now and then but she liked to spend most of her energies teaching new trainers in the art of pokemon contests.
Byron put his coffee down and gestured to the three pokeballs. "Now that you're sixteen and have completed your courses at the academy, you have to choose one of the region's starters. Normally Candice would be the one to present you with the three choices but she has been called away on League business and we don't know when she will be back." A spark of mischief flashed in his eyes. "Knowing how patient you are, I called in a few favors and the League gave me a special license to give you your first Pokémon."
As a renowned Battle Tutor, his father had access to all kinds of super rare Pokémon. Excitement flooded his veins. His father chuckled. "Now before you fly out of your seat, no I won't be giving you an out of region Pokémon. League rules are very specific. You have to start with one of the Sinnoh starters."
Lucas sighed, it was too good to be true but the Sinnoh starting Pokémon were not bad either. He already knew which one he wanted.
"Tell me son now that you have a license what kind of trainer do you want to be?" His father crossed his arms over his chest. "Do you want to be a coordinator like your mom? Breeder? Tutor?"
His mom put her hand on his dad's arm and looked at Lucas expectantly.
Lucas had thought about this long and hard. "I want to be a Battle Tutor just like you dad, mom don't get me wrong, contests are cool but too flashy for my tastes. I figured the best way to get experience is to do the Gym Challenge"
His dad cocked his head to the side. "Why not train under me?"
He flashed his dad a smile. "Because I want to experience and know everything there is to battle so when I challenge you, you won't see me coming."
His parents exchanged a look and smiled. "You owe me ten dollars." His mom said. His father shook his head. "I never made a bet. Besides, he is taking after me."
"Can I choose my starter now?" Lucas couldn't help but be a little impatient.
Byron nodded at the three pokeballs. "While these are the region starters, I might've spoken with a few breeder friends of mine to get you something special."
He looked at his dad. "You serious?"
"Let's just say they owed me a favor." He handed Lucas his pokedex. "Now scan them and tell me if your old man did a good job or not."
Lucas swiped the pokedex from his dad's hands and scanned the first pokeball.
The image of a small, light green, quadrupedal Pokémon with its body covered by a brown shell appeared on the screen. A small seedling grew on top of its head.
Turtwig, the Tiny Leaf Pokémon. This Pokémon becomes more energetic the more sunlight there is. The part resembling a shell is similar to silt and is slightly damp and warm to the touch. The seedling on its head will wilt if the Pokémon becomes too thirsty.
This Pokémon is Male.
This Pokémon has the Ability: Shell Armor.
This Pokémon knows the following moves:
Tackle
Absorb
Seed Bomb
Razor Leaf
Sunny Day
Lucas's eyes widened at the vast array of moves this Turtwig had. Rookie trainers were paired with equally young pokemon and you were lucky if they knew three moves let alone five. His excitement came back with a vengeance as he scanned the middle ball.
A bipedal Pokémon with orange fur, light face and orange markings around its eyes showed on the screen. It had a swirly crest of hair on its head. Its rear had a small, round, red patch of flames.
Chimchar, the Chimp Pokemon. Full of vigor and always in high spirits. It was once known by the name "Lantern-Tail" and feared as some kind of apparition. It agilely scales sheer cliffs to live atop craggy mountains. Its fire is put out when it sleeps. Its fiery rear end is fueled by gas made in its belly. Even rain can't extinguish the fire.
This Pokémon is Female.
This Pokémon has the Ability: Iron Fist.
This Pokémon knows the following moves:
Scratch
Ember
Fire Punch
Thunder Punch
Fake Out
This chimchar looked absolutely broken. It had two of the elemental punch moves and coupled with its Iron Fist ability, this little chimp would hit and hit hard. Finally he moved to the final Pokémon.
A light blue bipedal Pokémon, it had a dark blue head with a primarily white face and a short, yellow beak. The dark blue feathers on its head extend down its back and around its neck, which causes it to appear to be wearing a cape. There are two white ovals on its chest and a small, light-blue marking resembles a crown above its beak. It had flipper-like arms and yellow feet with three toes each.
Piplup, the Penguin Pokémon. Prefers cold climes and appears along coasts. It's an adorable little thing—as cute as any child—but it's also prideful, unwilling to accept handouts from people. It lives along the shore in northern countries. A skilled swimmer, it dives for over 10 minutes while hunting.
This Pokémon is Female.
This Pokémon has the Ability: Competitive.
This Pokémon knows the following moves:
Pound
Water Pulse
Peck
Aqua Ring
Super Sonic
Holy shit each one was the best of the best of their breed. Lucas had thought he knew which one he wanted but now looking at all the options he couldn't help but hesitate.
His father grinned at him. "So did your old man do good or not?"
Lucas couldn't help but chuckle. "You really put me in a tough spot."
His mom laughed. "Well son, which one are you going to choose?"
Lucas went over each one. "I choose…"
A/N: Well that's a wrap for the first chapter of Resonance. I hope you all like it. I have an overall plan of where I plan to take this story and hope you go with me on this wild ride. As to what to expect? Well this a very different take on a Sinnoh Journey such as the starting point and so forth. Some things may be similar to the games and the anime while others may not. The story will be aggressive in some parts and very proactive as well as grounded as much as it can be. Please leave a review as that lets the author know that you like the story and its a big motivator for writers.
Okay that's it for now. See you next time with reveal of who Lucas will be picking as his battle partner.
