Chapter 1
Death: the biggest mystery to any mortal but to Sam Winchester, it wasn't a mystery at all. He knew it all, from heaven to hell, from God to the devil, very few secrets remained a mystery. He gained his spot in Heaven, something he knew in spite of the sadness of leaving his son and wife behind, there were some people he wanted to see again.
The bridge spanned across a vast, tranquil landscape, its surface gleaming under the soft, golden light of the late afternoon sun. Each step Sam took along the bridge felt both surreal and comforting, a transition from the harsh realities of his mortal life to a serene afterlife he had only imagined.
Sam reached the midpoint of the bridge, where he saw a figure standing at the far end, facing away from him. His heart leapt as he recognized the familiar silhouette. It was Dean, looking as he did in their last moments together — the same leather jacket, the same posture. It felt like a moment out of a dream.
"Dean!" - Sam called out, his voice trembling with a mix of joy and disbelief.
Dean turned slowly, and their eyes met. The smile that spread across Dean's face was filled with warmth and relief, a stark contrast to the endless battles they had fought. For a moment, everything else faded away — the pain, the loss, the struggles — and all that remained was the profound joy of being reunited with his brother.
"Sam…" Dean said, his voice thick with emotion. - "I can't believe it. You're really here."
"I'm here." - Sam replied, his voice cracking as he took in the sight of his brother. - "I never thought I'd see you again. It feels like a dream."
They rushed toward each other, their movements fueled by an overwhelming sense of relief and happiness. When they finally embraced, it was as though all the pain and hardship of their mortal lives had vanished, replaced by a deep, comforting peace. It was a reunion they had both longed for, a moment of pure, untainted joy.
Dean pulled back slightly, looking at Sam with a mix of amazement and affection. - "You know, it's been a long time. I wasn't sure how it would feel. But here you are, and it's like no time has passed at all."
Sam smiled, his eyes reflecting the same sense of wonder. - "I know what you mean. It's like we're picking up right where we left off. All those years of fighting, of trying to make things right, they seem so distant now."
They stood on the bridge, basking in the tranquillity that surrounded them. The gentle breeze rustled through the trees, and the soft sunlight cast a warm glow over everything. For a brief moment, it felt as though the struggles of their mortal lives had been replaced by a serene peace, a reward for their perseverance.
Dean looked around, taking in the peaceful surroundings. - "This place... I mean, it's incredible. I can't wait to show everything."
"Yeah…" Sam agreed, his gaze sweeping over the serene landscape. - "I was here before but I guess you had the time to find out everything."
They continued to talk, reminiscing about their past adventures, their triumphs, and their losses. Each story they shared was a testament to the bond they had forged over the years, a bond that had withstood the test of time and adversity.
"Do you remember that time we ended up in that small town in Nebraska?" - Dean asked, a nostalgic grin spreading across his face. - "We thought the town was haunted, but it turned out to be just an overly enthusiastic squirrel?"
Sam chuckled, the sound carrying across the bridge. - "Yeah, and you insisted it was a sign. You wouldn't let it go for weeks."
Dean laughed, a genuine, carefree sound that echoed the joy they both felt. - "Yeah, I was pretty insistent. But it was just one of those funny moments, you know? It's those little things that made it all worth it."
As they talked, the peaceful atmosphere around them suddenly began to shift. A blinding flash of light erupted from the sky, and the bridge trembled violently. The sudden disruption threw Sam and Dean off their feet, their bodies crashing against the ground with a jarring impact. Dazed and disoriented, they scrambled to their feet, their hearts racing with a mix of fear and confusion.
"What the hell was that?" - Dean shouted, his voice filled with alarm as he looked around, searching for the source of the disturbance.
"I don't know!" - Sam responded, brushing dirt from his clothes as he looked back at the bridge. "But we need to find out!"
The intense light began to fade, revealing a figure lying on the ground. It was Jack, but he was in distress, his body convulsing uncontrollably. Sam and Dean rushed to his side, their faces etched with concern and confusion.
"Jack!" - Sam cried out, kneeling beside him. - "What's happening? Are you okay?"
Jack's body shook violently, and an erratic energy seemed to pulse from him, causing the bridge itself to vibrate with the intensity of his turmoil. The brothers struggled to help him, but the situation was rapidly spiralling out of control.
"Jack, stay with us!" - Dean shouted, trying to hold Jack still. - "We're here. You need to hang on!"
Jack's eyes were wide with fear and desperation. He looked at Sam and Dean, his expression a mix of helplessness and anguish. - "I…I can't control it." - he gasped. - "It's too much."
Before they could react further, Jack's body was enveloped in a blinding burst of light. The force of the explosion was immense, sending Sam and Dean flying several yards away. They crashed against the ground, their bodies aching from the impact.
Struggling to their feet, the brothers looked back toward the bridge. The sight that greeted them was one of devastation. Jack lay unconscious on the ground, surrounded by debris and dust. The bridge was in disarray, and the once serene environment had become a chaotic mess.
"What just happened?" - Dean muttered; his eyes wide with disbelief as he surveyed the scene. - "This wasn't supposed to happen."
As they tried to make sense of the situation, another figure appeared much to their surprise. - "Amara?" Sam said, his voice tinged with confusion and anger. - "What are you doing here?"
She remained silent: Her presence was both unsettling and familiar, casting a shadow over the already chaotic scene. She stood near Jack, her expression a mix of weariness and regret. Amara's gaze was sober as she looked at Jack's unconscious form. - "This is a consequence of the fusion between me and Jack." she finally spoke, quietly. - "The separation caused a disruption, and now everything is in chaos. It wasn't meant to be this way."
Dean's eyes narrowed, his frustration was evident. - "So, this is your fault? You and Jack messing with the balance?"
"No…" - Amara said, raising a hand in a gesture of calm. - "It wasn't intended to be this way. The balance we maintained was delicate. My departure and Jack's current state have created a rift. We need to address it, but it's going to be complicated."
Before they could respond further, the sky above them darkened ominously. A sense of impending significance filled the air as a new presence began to materialize. Sam and Dean looked up, their eyes widening as a familiar figure took shape until it finally it was clear as water.
"You? Really?"- Dean gasped.
"Chuck?" – Sam was just as dumbfounded as everyone else.
Chuck surveyed the scene with a detached, almost melancholic gaze. His eyes took in Jack's unconscious form, Amara's weary presence, and finally rested on Sam and Dean. A faint, almost sad smile touched his lips as he spoke.
"Home, sweet home."
