Disclaimer: I do not own The Mr. Men Show or any of its characters. But I do own a few characters in this story and the idea that Mr. Grumpy has a brother and a niece.
After Mr. Grumpy met up with his niece again, he decided to go straight home. On the walk back to his house, he asked her what Mr. Small's surprise was. She told him that they wanted her to stargaze and she said how beautiful it was. She seemed distracted the whole way back to his house, but her uncle didn't try to push her to tell him what was on her mind. If she wanted to tell him, she would.
Finally back home, Little Miss Aloof went into the guest room and Mr. Grumpy sat in his chair for a bit. A late night fishing show was on, but he was off in his own thoughts, wondering what to do with Little Miss Aloof tomorrow. He must have fallen asleep in his chair because the next thing he knew he was waking up and morning sunlight was coming through the window.
Blinking the sleep out of his eyes, he got up and went to check on his niece. She was still sound asleep so he decided to not wake her. He went to make himself some coffee and breakfast. He was sitting down to eat when he heard a door open, and he looked up to see Little Miss Aloof walking out of her room.
"Hungry?" he asked as she sat at the table. She nodded and he got up to fix her some toast and a couple of eggs.
After they ate, Little Miss Aloof was wondering what they were going to do now, when the phone started ringing. Mr. Grumpy got up and went to answer it.
"It's your father," he told her.
She got up and took the phone from her uncle. "Hello? Dad?" she spoke into the phone.
Her father's voice answered her. "Hello, Miss. Aloof. How are you doing? Is your uncle treating you well?"
Little Miss Aloof hesitated and glanced over at Mr. Grumpy, who was standing by the table, watching her. Then she said," Yes. We went to the fair last night and it was fun."
"That's good to hear." There was a pause on the other end. Then her dad said," I'm afraid I'm going to be here longer than expected, so you have to stay with your uncle for a few more days. Is that okay?"
"Yes, that's fine. I'm having so much fun," she replied, deciding not to mention how at first it seemed like her uncle didn't want her around. Now she really felt like he liked her, and she was looking forward to spending even more time with him. Plus, that means I can spend even more time with Mr. Small, she thought, daydreaming about the small man.
She was knocked out of her thoughts when she heard her dad calling her name. Quickly shaking her head, she said," I'm sorry, dad, what?"
"Can I speak with your uncle, please?" Mr. Apathy asked.
"Yes, hold on." She glanced at her uncle and said," He wants to talk to you."
Mr. Grumpy walked over and took the phone from her. "Yeah?" he asked, and Mr. Apathy also told him that he's staying a few more days and he has to watch Little Miss Aloof longer. "Okay, that's fine," the blue Mr. Man said. "Talk to you later. Goodbye."
He hung up the phone and stood there, thinking. He didn't mind Little Miss Aloof staying, but he wondered what else they could do together. He looked around for ideas, and saw a piece of paper on top of his trash in the bin. He walked over and picked it up. It read: Little Miss Sunshine starring in her new play about rainbows and bubbles.
It had arrived with the mail a few days ago, and he had immediately thrown it in the trash, grumbling to himself about how ridiculous that play sounded. But… He glanced over at Little Miss Aloof. Maybe she'd want to go, he thought, and he walked over to her, showing her the paper. "Would you want to go to this play?" he asked. "It's tonight."
Little Miss Aloof looked at the paper. "Could be fun," she finally said, smiling up at her uncle.
Mr. Grumpy smiled, too, but Little Miss Aloof could see behind his grin. He really didn't want to go, but he was willing to put up with it for her. She felt touched. "What should we do until it starts?" she asked.
He looked at the paper. "It says it starts at 6, so maybe we go into town until lunch and then…" He thought for a moment. "Then maybe see what Miss. Music is doing?"
"Sure," Little Miss Aloof said, and she followed her uncle out of his house. They took the car today and they drove into the main part of town where they parked and decided to walk down the street. They passed the hobby shop, where Little Miss Aloof waved to Mr. Scatterbrain through the window. He waved back and then they continued to walk. A few residents of the town passed them, waving to them or stopping to chat for a moment.
A pink Little Miss with blonde hair and blue and white shoes stopped to talk to them for a long time, and as she continued to talk and talk, Little Miss Aloof saw her uncle getting more and more annoyed. The young Little Miss tried talking to the other one who turned out to be named Little Miss Chatterbox, but she kept talking on and on and on, and soon Little Miss Aloof just stopped trying to say something and just listened to her go on about totally random things.
Farther down the road, Mr. Small and Mr. Nosy walked along. Mr. Nosy was holding a pair of binoculars that he'd look through every now and again to see what his friends were up to. Mr. Small walked beside him, glancing around and waving to people as they passed them. Then he noticed ahead of them that Little Miss Chatterbox was talking to Mr. Grumpy and his niece. As he watched the scene, he saw how annoyed Mr. Grumpy seemed to be of the chatty Little Miss.
"Maybe we should help him," Mr. Small said, and Mr. Nosy turned to see what he was talking about.
"Who? Mr. Grumpy?" the light green Mr. Man asked.
"Yes," Mr. Small answered. "Come on, Nose," he added, quickening his pace. He stopped in front of the group, and they all looked surprised to see him. Delight shone in Little Miss Aloof's eyes. Mr. Nosy came running up beside him. "Hello, Mr. Grumpy, Miss. Aloof, Miss. Chatterbox," the small man greeted them, tipping his hat to them. "Mr. Grumpy, we need your help with something. Can you please excuse us, Miss. Chatterbox?"
"Aw, but I was telling Mr. Grumpy's niece about something funny Featherhead did the other day," the pink Little Miss said, glancing over at Little Miss Aloof.
"Maybe finish telling her another time?" Mr. Small suggested. "She'll still be here for a few more days." He glanced at Mr. Grumpy, who nodded, and Little Miss Aloof said," I'm staying a little longer because my dad is going to be gone for a few more days."
"Oh, lovely." Mr. Small grinned up at her, and Little Miss Aloof turned, blushing.
Noticing the interaction with his niece and the small man, Mr. Grumpy moved in between them and said," It was interesting talking to you Miss. Chatterbox, but we got to go. And Mr. Small, thank you, I think, but we have something to do, so we can't help you right now. Come on, Miss. Aloof." He took hold of her hand and dragged her away from the others.
Once they were down the road, he sighed. He didn't like how his niece acted around the small man. It felt wrong, like something was going on between them that it shouldn't. Pushing that thought away, he looked at his niece, noticing that she looked very disappointed and she glanced over her shoulder as they walked along.
He needed to talk to her and let her know she didn't need to get too close to Mr. Small. Besides him being much older than her, Mr. Grumpy found him just as annoying as Mr. Nosy, even though the small man had helped him a lot with his niece. He just didn't like the idea that Little Miss Aloof liked him more than she should.
Wanting to distract his niece, he said," Why don't we go to the movies?"
She looked at him. "What's playing?"
"Let's find out." The movie theater wasn't far from where they were.
When they arrived, there was a few movies playing, but Little Miss Aloof said she wanted to watch Gamma Goo from Planet 9 so Mr. Grumpy bought the tickets and they went into the theater, finding seats in the middle. There wasn't many people in here, to Mr. Grumpy's relief and the seats they picked were good. As they settled down to watch the movie, the lights dimmed and the previews started playing.
